Blue Agave is 6 months newly opened with an updated interior decor. Friendly and prompt service, large menu selections from starters to entrees, with casual dining ambience. Very good portions on their dishes, served quickly from the kitchen. Overall, a 3.75+ rated experience for me on food quality/quantity, food presentation, attentive service and relaxed dine-in setting. Expect to pay ~$12-20 for entrees. Tortilla Chips were brought to our table with house-made mild Salsa. I was expecting (hoping) warmed chips but they were not; however I did request "hot" (spicy) Salsa and they provided their homemade one upon request, YUM! Also, the bar menu included Margarita's, beers and other specialty drinks. For starters, tried the Queso Fundido with melted Cheese, Chorizo and Poblano Peppers. Served warm, it was a thick and tasty cheese dip with very good flavors - enjoyed the chunkiness of sausage and peppers, but hoped for more Queso Chihuahua cheese in the dip. For entrees, we ordered Santa Fe Salad with Chicken, Chile Verde, and Tacos Quesabirrias. All 3 dinners were different and enjoyed. The Salad was tasty and having added grilled chicken made it balanced with veggie and protein. The Chile Verde had very tender pork, with a Verde (green) sauce that wasn't as spicy and bold flavored as I expected, but still very good to eat. I think the Quesabirrias (beef) Tacos were the BEST of the 3 dishes, having crisp corn tortillas, fresh mexican Chihuahua cheese and beef birria with chopped onion, cilantro and tomatillo sauce on side, excellent meal!! Today I had lunch at the new "Blue Agave" in the valley, where El Maguey used to be. I think that the chicken chimi lunch was even better than before and my waiter Angel was right there on time with food & refills. I will definitely be back! read more

Chips were crunchy & salsa was good. No bar or draft beer...they have a counter in front of kitchen where they store liquor bottles. I ordered enchiladas supremas. Per the menu, that consisted of 1 ground beef, 1 cheese, 1 shredded beef, & 1 shredded chicken enchiladas. Shredded meats at Mexican places are typically very dry so I typically change the dish to be 2 ground beef & 2 cheese enchiladas. Every other Mexican place I've eaten at does this for me no problem. For whatever reason, they would not allow this customization here, which seems ridiculous. Assuming enchiladas are made to order, it wouldn't be that hard to switch out, but not possible. The shredded meat was dry as expected & the enchilada sauce was different than other places too. Hard to explain but tasted more like a gravy & there wasn't a lot of sauce in the middle. We LOVE Mexican restaurants and are always up for checking out a new one My husband and I went on a Saturday night and there were a good number of people already there, but there was still a decent amount of seating available and we were seated right away. (There is no hostess stand so we just waited maybe 30 seconds and someone saw us and came and seated us.) The menu is extensive and has some delicious sounding items on it! Chips and salsa were brought to the table pretty much right away. We are not fans of the salsa. I believe another review said it was like ketchup with some spices in it. It wasn't quite that bad, but not very good. We ordered margaritas and started going through the menu. We eventually made a choice. My husband got the Quesadilla Patron and I ordered the Chilaquiles (with steak). Both of our entrees were delicious! I got a strawberry margarita and liked it - of course it was sweet, but it wasn't too sweet. My husband got a regular margarita and said it was too sweet. He ordered a spicy one next and about 12 or so slices were thrown in the glass. They were not muddled so it wasn't very spicy! Music was playing and it wasn't typical Mexican restaurant music! It was all songs I recognized - I'm not sure what genre to call it because I don't really remember any of the songs! Maybe soft rock? I don't know. The service was a little off, but not bad. My husband and I went to Blue Agave on a Saturday night for dinner. We were seated right away. It took awhile for our sever to come over and take our drink order. I got a jalapeño margarita to drink. it wasn't very spicy and I couldn't taste the tequila. I got veggie enchiladas to eat and they were very good. I really appreciated that there were multiple vegetarian options. The restaurant itself is casual. I would go again if I was in the area, but I probably would not get a margarita. read more

First time at Blue Agave Cocina and the whole experience was mediocre. The restaurant feels very similar to an El Maguey (I think it actually used to be one.) The restaurant is new, so I was excited to give it a try. They did bring chips and salsa but I didn't have any. We ordered 4 chicken tacos & 4 steak tacos. Unfortunately, they don't let you buy the tacos al carte so you can't mix and match different ones which was a bummer. They were ultra mini like 2-bite size portions. They were a little dry but not terrible. I tried a house lime margarita which was fine, truthfully just tasted like marg mix. The sign on the door said they closed at 9 but they started mopping around 7:45. Nothing to rave home about. read more

We are not in the Valley as much as we used to be. This time we were killing time awaiting a car that was being serviced and decided to go to El Maguey. Well, what do you know? It is now Blue Agave. They have certainly cleaned the place up with paint, less clutter and improved cleanliness. El Maguey was a bit of a dump. The new ownership has tried to add some non-traditional things to the menu, but have retained the core of gringo Mexican food that you expect in these family restaurants. I'm afraid, we don't really test the menus very far these days. We are normally just having a light lunch. Ms T gets one or two ground beef tacos and I usually get huevos rancheros or huevos Mexicanos or huevos con chorizo. I opted for the latter because I did not see the others listed. Next time I might ask. However my huevos con chorizo were just fine and the large serving made two more lunches at home. Ms T had a combo with one taco and one red enchilada, both with ground beef. I understand what that sounds like, but there are places that put out delicious ground beef (Mi Lupita!). She was disappointed in the beef at Blue Agave, but I thought it was fine. I particularly liked the red enchilada sauce. It really was red chile sauce and had a little sourness that was very good. It remains to be seen if we are back any time soon. Love this restaurant. Portion sizes are large with plenty to take home. Highly recommend the chipotle pasta, agave special, and pollo tequila. The menu is large and I'm going through it slowly. Fresh guacamole but it could use flavor, maybe onions, garlic, tomato, & cilantro. Beef & chicken were loaded with salt. It's sensless since there are so many other seasonings to use in Mexican cuisine. More cumin, garlic, peppers; much less salt would make the place 4.5 stars since ingredients and service were very good. Nothing special here. Place doesn't have a bar and doesn't have any beer on tap. I got a chicken quasidilla and it was ok. My wife got the enchilada suprimas and thought it was just ok too. They wouldn't let her customize it to get extra beef and no chicken, and as expected the shredded chicken was dry. read more

I have been wanting to try this place and stopped by for dinner. The top shelf margarita was not great. Kind of bummed with the mix they used. The food was okay. The menu said somewhere that extra chips and salsa was $4.75! It said that under the lunch menu but we were still confused if we would've charged or if it was only for lunch? We received the check and we' were not charged the $4.75. We were charged 3% for using a credit card. But, they have signs when you walk saying that and many Mexican places tend to have this charge. What blew me away was another charge that was a service fee of 3%. This was not because I used a credit card either. This was on the bill before I paid. This was shocking. The only reason this is 2 staris because the server was great. Too many unknown charges and just so so food. I would say skip for sure. read more

Dined here on a Tuesday evening around 5pm. Very few people in the restaurant. Service throughout the meal was outstanding. I read a previous review which said the sauce was like ketchup with spices, I disagree, I thought the sauce was fine. We ordered two of the burrito dishes a side of queso and two sides of beans. Warning, the sides of beans are huge so you might think about splitting them. The burrito dish I ordered had three burritos (a steak, a pork and a chicken), covered in a white queso sauce. They were delicious and each meat had outstanding flavor. The steak was the best tasting, but was a bit overcooked for my tastes. The pork was fantastic and the chicken was very good as well. This place inside is pretty basic, but they do have some nice booths. The menu is extensive and reasonably priced. I'm looking forward to trying some of the different burritos and other items on the menu in the future. read more

We ate here for the first time on Tuesday, 12/23. Service was great. I had tilapia topped with crab, shrimp, and Chipotle sauce. It was excellent. Talapia was cooked perfectly. Crab was very good as were the shrimp rice on the side. My wife and daughter both had the Enchiladas and raved about each version. My son had the street tacos. Gobbled those down then started on the enchiladas that my wife couldn't finish. Generous portions. This is our new favorite for Mexican food. read more

Waiter (Carlos) was hilarious, attentive, and such a joy to be served by, was cracking jokes and playing with us. With the good food, his service took it to an 11/10. We came here for lunch yesterday. A Wednesday afternoon around 2. Needless to say it was not busy. That being said, the 3 people working did not want us there. We weren't loud or demanding so I'm not sure what the issue was but the older lady waiting on us was rushing everything and then after we paid (and both gave her over 20% tip), we just wanted to finish chatting and since it wasn't busy and NO ONE ELSE WAS THERE, I don't see the problem. Apparently it was a problem for our waitress, since while we were sitting there (MAYBE 10 minutes after paying, if that) our waitress turned off the lights and ran into the back thinking maybe I wouldn't have seen what she had just done. These people clearly don't care if their business succeeds because with service like that, to the very few customers they have, it won't last long. read more
