I decided to try a new Mexican spot near me, even though my boyfriend wasn't too keen on venturing out of our usual spots. I'm so glad I did the food was too good! This is my favorite Mexican restaurant! Have been going for years. Great food, lovely staff, reasonably priced, charming decor.

These servers really hustled to keep the bustling crowd full of chips and margaritas! We started with delicious chips and very mild salsa. But there was red and green hot sauce on the table to up the spice level. The restaurant has booths and tables and is very casual. We had two combination plates. #8 tamale, enchilada, rice and beans and #10 two crunchy tacos with rice and beans. Delicious food. Served quick and hot! Yummy The atmosphere is fun and laid back. Lots of families there in a Friday night and an almost full parking lot. The staff was upbeat and checked in if we needed anything. We didn't wait long for anything. We have been weekly customers since El Rancho opened. We thought the food was better than other local places as well as the margs. However, recently some of the staff we have known have left, and with it, the friendliness and exceptional service we experienced as regulars. Additionally, the marg recipe has changed and not for the better. On a positive note, the food seems not to have suffered. Bring back the previous staff and better margs and we'll be back more frequently. read more

When a couple entered and placed their alcohol orders before being seated, staff diverted from attending two seated parties. Come here all the time, it's my go-to Mexican restaurant if I'm wanting to keep my meal inexpensive but also be a step above El Maguey. The food is always good, though I don't stray too much from my usual order. I always get one of their fajitas or the Quesadilla Rancho Nuevo. Their queso can vary on its consistency but I'm not very picky so I like it. Same with the salsa, I'll typically add some hot sauce to spice it up. This is a small building, much smaller than the other location down 94 near the McAllisters and movie theater, but it has charm to it. Staff is always friendly and helpful, has been patient with larger groups. Overall, I highly recommend you give it a try. read more

Never had a bad experience here. The last couple of times we have been able to enjoy the patio seating. The service and food have been great every time. This ad sold me enough to give it another try,there must be new ownership,because last time we tried eating their food was different and served on paper plates. This time the food was served on regular plates with metal utensils.I should have taken a picture. I found myself at El Rancho Nuevo for a quick dinner with a friend. Very small place! Very large menu! The chips were out of a bag (not fried or even warmed in house) and the salsa had the flavor of tomato sauce which is basically flavorless. At this point I ordered a side of queso because I wanted to eat some chips. The queso was as expected. I felt it was best to keep it simple and I settled on the #1 combo, 2 cheese enchiladas, 1 beef taco, and rice. My dinner date ordered a combo as well. I couldn't tell you what number it was or what was on it. The food came out lightning fast! I took a bite of the taco first. If I had bought a packet of taco seasoning at any grocery and cooked a pound of ground beef in it that would have had about 100 times more flavor and moisture than this beef did so my first bite of the taco was also my last. I moved onto the enchiladas. The cheese was melted, the tortilla was not stale, and they were exceptionally generous with the enchilada sauce out of the #10 can. The rice was dry and had no flavor. I finished the enchiladas and a few bites of the rice. Later in the evening I read the reviews for this restaurant. 1. I'm terribly confused by all the reviews stating how much they love the food and how it's so authentic. 2. Props to "Ben S." for his assessment and the label "shitty Mexican food." By far the worst Mexican food I've ever had. This places is stretching it, what do I mean? Serving the most watered down cheese "queso" dip (literally like white flavorless water). Staff were okay but the food quality was horrible. I looked at my friend when our order came and said, should we just cut our losses and eat somewhere else? Wish I had. Refried beans were almost white, my friends quesadilla came out soggy and 1/2 inch of water, sauce or something. Even the chips were like stail gas station chips. i have tipped them over 30 dollars at the drive through and today i was getting rice, which was 3 dollars and was treated so poorly by this staff. the man that seems like the boss was absolutely rude and i was going to leave a tip but did not because they did not even give me chips or salsa which is fine but they usually always give it, i can see how they would not want to with the small total but the rude customer service on top of it. very disappointed and won't be tipping them again if i even choose this mexican restaurant of the many around. read more

We used to eat here every week with groups of friends. They're getting more and more rude. These people work 24/7 and then they've gotta deal with social distancing table limits and stuff like that. Well, the food has gone wayyyy down hill in the last 6 months. We couldn't sit with our kids because of capacity limits they've chosen to make for Covid. When we walked in, he so rudely asked 16 of us to put on masks! No one at any restaurant nearby is requiring masks anymore. Mind you, this is one of the safest counties in MO. This is days after the CDC updated their guidelines that you don't have to wear a mask around others. I offered to show my vaccine card, but he said he didn't care. We had: 2 taco salads 1 order if steak tacos (came with 3). 2 teas 1 soda. Costed $40. Taco Salads came with a tiny scoop of sour cream, lettuce and a tiny slice of tomato (NO CHEESE). Everything else that typically goes in a salad costed extra. My beef taco salad came in a shell but the shell was on a plate soaking in water! Ew Steak tacos came out...only tortilla with steak. Asked for cheese and lettuce. They charged me $2.25 for a tablespoon of cheese and $1.75 for the lettuce. Also, The beef was soooo dry. El Rancho Nuevo is very similar to the type of Mexican you find throughout the area. It's ok. It's not bad, but nothing memorable either. Chips, salsa are ok. Standard St. Louis-based Mexican restaurant menu of options. Fried stuff, stuff with cheese sauce, fajitas, etc. The location was something else before and looks like it may have been a fast food place. The re-do fell a little short. Not much on the decor or ambiance. The servers are very nice, the food arrives prompt. Tastes ok, but nothing that stands out. Comparable to El Maguey, Josepeno's etc. Would be really cool to see someone try a new concept. If you are in the mood for Mexican and want a safe selection similar to some of the other Mexican places in the area, this is a safe selection. read more

This is a really nice local restaurant. Great for families. This was our first visit. It has a nice little patio outside and inside are tables and booths. The restaurant is spotless, the food is good and the waiters are great! Margaritas are very good! (I hate it when they are sour) My husband had the enchilada and taco combo which was very good.
