My boyfriend and I ordered takeout food from this establishment. boyfriend got the ribeye tacos and i got shrimp al chipotle. My food was okay, on the other hand my boyfriends was not. He opened his tacos up, took a bite, and tasted straight grill cleaner. (I tasted it myself as well) We both have/had worked in kitchens/ restaurants for many years, and know what grill cleaner smells like and unfortunately, tastes like. After taking a BITE of all three tacos he decided to not eat them and threw them away. Not even an hour later he started throwing up the tacos. He was throwing up for a good 10 minutes. I will not be returning to this restaurant due to him getting sick as he does not normally get sick from food. This is beyond ridiculous and unsafe. The problem at my last visit was the two drunk "ladies" in the booth behind us. They were so loud and cussing like drunken death row inmates. I mean it was bad. Call HAZMAT the most horrible smell in the side I was seated. IT WAS NOT THE FOOD! Someone didn't mix their cleaner right.. or it is a gas leak. I really hate to give a thumbs-down to any local establishment. I want the little guys to survive. Especially when they're adorable and super friendly like they are at the St. Peters El Maguey, on Mexico near Mid Rivers Mall Drive. So here are the positives: the food comes out reallllly fast. I mean, faster than it takes to eat a handful of chips. The wait staff is so sweet and checks on you often. They always say, "You okay, chica?" or "Everything alright, senorita?" The chairs are painted in fun shades of pinks and blues and have happy little paintings on them. They even have a magician on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. That's certainly novel. It's just that the food isn't so hot. I hate to say it, really. It's sort of like the furthest you can get from authentic Mexican, kind of like every Chinese greasy spoon is so far from authentic Chinese. I was hoping for a little something, but even the corn tortillas in my enchiladas verdes (chicken enchiladas with onions, cilantro and a green chile sauce) were greasy and dry. You know the difference when you have a fresh corn tortilla. The rice was super bland and the guac was less exciting than something from the grocery store's refrigerated section. My mom liked her chimichanga, though. She cleaned her plate. Maybe it was just an off night. I really hope so. read more

Fairly similar to the other El Magooys but Entrees are $2-3 more than what they charge at the Wildwood location, which is odd because you would think that it would cost more to run a restaurant in West County. The atmosphere is also lacking at this location. Had a steak dish for $15 which consisted of a 4 oz piece of meat, barely enough to make 3 tacos. A small very small portion. The same dish at the Wildwood Outpost is a lot more substantial. read more

This did not make the cut. Enchiladas were made with some kind of tomato sauce (not even enchilada sauce). Nachos were plain with no toppings and they used some kind of canned cheese. Had to ask for drinks multiple times and request to go trays. Last week the chips weren't fresh. Going to stick with Chimis instead. Not sure what possessed me to come back today but thought things had changed. Nope, worst trip yet. No system whatsoever to get the groups of people seated. Saw them seat one group only to tell them to get up because they missed another group ahead of them. We waited a good 40 minutes for the food and everything was cold. Do not eat here! read more

This is my go to mexican restaurant. It has a friendly staff and the food is always served hot and very fast. I have had many dishes here but my favorite is the fajita taco salad. For the meat they lacked on the tacos, they made up for on the salad. It had about 4 pieces of lettuce. The rest was rubbery chicken. I had asked for sautéed mushrooms, they had exactly 3 mushrooms, I counted, on the salad. Definitely disappointed. Also.
