The appetizer selection is also very limited, with few options that work well for sharing. Two visits were enough to establish a pattern for me. There are too many good dining options in Houston to spend an evening feeling like the restaurant is more interested in turning your table than having you enjoy it.

I explained to her that I was actually there to have dinner. At which point she appeared embarrassed and brought over a gentleman, who guided me through the dining room to a seat. He assured me that I made a great choice in picking a restaurant and told me, unprompted, that he would bring me a glass of water. I waited for service. And waited. And waited. I found this to be curious since several staff members were walking around, generally chatting with each other and ignoring the guests. Finally, another gentleman came over to take my order. I ordered the Braised Short Rib. I waited for my glass of water. And waited. And waited. The gentleman who took my order seemed to be the bartender, since he went behind the bar and proceeded to ignore the few guests at the bar. Eventually, 20 minutes after I entered the restaurant and 15 minutes after being seated, I went back to the host stand. I asked the host to cancel my order, since I hadn't even gotten a glass of water yet. He asked me where I was seated. I found this to be curious since he was the one who had seated me. Underground Hall, like its name suggests, is a subterranean food hall in downton Houston. They have a burger stall, a taco stall, a chicken stall, an Asian BBQ fusion stall, an icea cream stall, dessert stall upstairs, and a full bar. I ordered Birria Tacos, while also sampling hot chicken mac n cheese fries, and brisket eggrolls thanks to what everyone else ordered. Everything was delicious. The bar offers $1 champagne shots and has a solid happy hour outside of their already pretty good regular prices. My only negative was the bathrooms. Tons of graffiti, smell, and in general needed some serious clean up love, but it didn't ruin the overall visit. Just a heads up. If you or your group can't decide on where to go, go everywhere at the Underground Hall!
