I love a good food hall, especially when you're with a group of people. Can't decide on one specific type of cuisine, split up amongst the different stalls, and bring all the random selections back to the table so everyone can try something different. Underground Hall, like its name suggests, is a subterranean food hall in downton Houston. They have a burger stall, a taco stall, a chicken stall, an Asian BBQ fusion stall, an icea cream stall, dessert stall upstairs, and a full bar. I ordered Birria Tacos, while also sampling hot chicken mac n cheese fries, and brisket eggrolls thanks to what everyone else ordered. Everything was delicious. The bar offers $1 champagne shots and has a solid happy hour outside of their already pretty good regular prices. My only negative was the bathrooms. Tons of graffiti, smell, and in general needed some serious clean up love, but it didn't ruin the overall visit. Just a heads up. It was a holiday weekend and lots of places downtown Houston was closed but this place was open so we decided to try it. It's an underground food court so my family and I decided to try different things. I ended up getting the bulgogi and kimchi rice and man I ate it all up! It was so good! Great late night spot to hang out! I've been here when it was the conservatory as well and it's a great space to mingle with friends or go on a date. I came after a musical on a weeknight and it was one of the only places still open in downtown. Decent food options (Asian, taco, hot chicken), few arcade style games, and plenty of TVs. After visiting Off The Record for the night, my friends and I took the short walk over to the Underground Hall for some late night bites. I really appreciate the fact that this food hall stays open late for those enjoying downtown Houston. They had a wide variety of food options including chicken, burgers, and my personal favorite, tacos. Our group of 4 ordered from Birria Los Primos and got settled at one of the nearby tables. My friend saw that they had $1 champagne shots at the bar, so she ordered 4 for the table. We dug into our phenomenally tasting food and order two more rounds of champagne shots. Minus the homeless community camped outside on the corner...this place is always a fave visit when I'm in Houston! I'm glad they have security outside now because the last time we visited they didn't but I would def prefer more than one to feel safer. We actually walked over here from our hotel but def caught an uber back. Second let down was most of the arcade game stocked away in the corner didn't even work. The only game that we could play was the basketball one and the wait was crazy due to people playing it over and over which I understand because it was the only one working. However this was the main reason we enjoyed coming because my kids like to play while waiting on food or after eating. The restaurants all smell yummy and we bounced between a few and were not disappointed. The food by far was so good!! Searching for food in Downtown Houston brought us to the Underground Hall. It's a smallish place with a handful of food vendors. We tried three! To start the evening, we ordered drinks from the bar. Bluebonnet French 75 for me and St. Arnold's Grand Prize lager for the spouse. My cocktail wasn't bad but the bubbly wasn't so bubbly. I suppose it was because it was the end of the day and the champagne may have been open for quite a few hours. I'd order this again just to get a bubblier cocktail. Really cool spot in downtown Houston. They have a full bar with lots of beer on tap and a few different food concepts to try. I tried the sliders from Bun Slut that were very yummy and the Underground Blonde from the bar. Both were delicious! There are TVs and a few different game machines you can play. The parking situation is not ideal and Fannin and Prairie can be dicey at night but great selection and I've never felt overwhelmed by crowds. Nestled in the heart of downtown, they've played a small part in revitalizing this part of the city. It's become a destination for food, drink, and a vibe for all. As far as food halls go, this place is a bit on the smaller side. The basement digs give it a true underground feel, especially with the darker lighting and overall ambiance. Given the tight layout, it's remarkable they've managed to fit as much as they have in this space. Seating seems plentiful, but can be a challenge for bigger groups. There's plenty of things to do here beyond eating, which include drinks, games, and sports on TV. The lineup for food has changed a bit in the short time that they've been open, but this is the current list: Wokker, Bird Haus, Bun Slut, Luv' Em Leches, Figata Gourmet Foods, and Los Primos. Overall, I'd say they're all decent and make for a good option for anyone who's looking for a casual bite or a pseudo drunken meal. As the ambiance would suggest, I'd say this is a place for a younger crowd. I wouldn't recommend it as a kid friendly spot or a destination for older folks. Parking is a challenge in most parts of downtown, but I've been fortunate to find street parking here each time. There are always a lot of activity outside, especially with folks struggling with their mental health. Once you find this unique gem there are several options to eat. We had the Asian fusion restaurant. Their egg rolls with BBQ were super good! We would good back for a lunch if in the area. The benches and TVs make it comfortable to stay- it's a bit run down but imagine a game day for Astros it has more people. There is a bar as well for alcohol. The architecture is very cool and has a unique story to it from when it was a popular downtown bar many years ago. The plans for the bar are in the walls. Picture this. For my birthday, I was taken on a carriage ride of downtown to receive a street level slowed down view of every street because during the day, it's a maze. I'd been in the tunnels before but what I was searching for was, you guessed it, my cult favorite food truck fantasyland--the hidden gem open air version of Bunslut inside Underground Hall, minus the truck. From the street view, parking will cost you at least $20 on the weekend, to partake in an $8 delight. After the carriage ride, I offered to pay for dinner because this one's on me. While he was still confused (a local Houstonian) because it's my birthday and we've passed up all the spots that would hurt your pockets and your feet (here's why I said wear your sneaks) we crossed the street and then went down a few short flights of stairs below street level. The restaurants in this tucked away food court are nothing fancy but the crowd is amazingly diverse and it feels like you're someplace you shouldn't know about but do and you're better for it! Nobody looks like you and nobody's looking at you. It's a vibe like being on your first high school date and on everyone else's too. They did not accept cash. But you can prob afford to eat at all six spots to try them out. The entrance/exit has a variety cakes and desserts almost an afterthought and gives you the feeling of checking out of the bates motel. You don't really notice the cakes going in but you do on your way out. Maybe it's the bell on the door or the something for the road feeling because immediately on the other side of the door there's sensory overload of things going on. For a few bucks though, you've got dinner and takeout and a place to take your picky friends (or teens). There is something for everyone. Family friendly and budget friendly. I woke up the next morning feeling like it was all a dream. But my son said, thanks for the takeout...whatever that place was, the (slutty) sauce is amazing. And this is how we began our burger hunt all over Houston to surpass Bunslut. We've been to every location many times, this one being the first and fave! Fun fact: this location replaced Hotline Burger in UH, which I discovered later, dethroning Bunslut for me. I've covered Hotline before and will again. read more

They had a sweets shop when you first walked in but like a said, ain't nothing sweeter than the loving of a hood woman. There is also a bar which is never a bad thing. Plus it's not full of chains so that's a bonus. Anyway, there's plenty of good stuff down here, I especially like the salad and the Slovenian Sausage Pizza from the salad place down here. There's hot chicken (not bad), a bar, and a bunch of other goodies, about half of which I've tried so far. Definitely worth a stop if you're downtown, but honestly it doesn't drag us out to Downtown for food the way nearby Zydeco, Les Givral's, and Nara Express do. But while other awesome people say that trendy food courts rarely disappoint, I feel they almost always disappoint, and while this one disappoints less than some of the others, it still could be much better. The different types of food available had something for everyone. The mixture of scents was a little too much for me.

We tried multiple restaurants there, we got a smash burger which was just alright, the brisket eggrolls from the Asian place which were yum, the Nashville chicken strips from the chicken place also yum, and the Birria tacos which were the star of the show for us! Unique underground hidden gem if you've never been down. While working downtown I walked over with some co-workers and had the best lunch break ever!
