Just tried this cute hidden gem in Casa Linda and it was lovely! The owners are siblings from El Salvador so they have really creative syrup flavors and great beans! This shop is surprisingly spacious! And it was very quiet when I went in, I would think a great place to study or read! They also have ceramics and art from local artists. I was really impressed by El Portón. I got a cortado and a beef empanada. Both items were priced reasonably and were very well done. The cortado was one of the best I have ever had. The staff were friendly and the ambiance was solid with plenty of seating. My only complaint was that the wait time on both items was fairly steep (maybe 20 min). I met up with a co-worker here for coffee recently. It's a quaint little shop on the corner in a strip mall on the northeast corner of Garland Rd and Buckner. It has a lot of character, obvious from the moment you walk in. The colors, the plants, the openness of it - it makes you feel like you're at your neighbor's house for coffee! I love the living room look, with mismatched seating, along with a small area for the little ones to keep occupied. I tried a muffin, which was very good. Smaller than other shops. Later I purchased a raspberry danish to take home, which wasn't near as good as it looked, but not bad. The staff member behind the counter offered to heat it up for me. My latte was fair, I'd probably just stick to regular coffee next time. It's a nice place and I will return, go try it for yourself! read more

I love visiting unique coffee shops, and this Salvadorian spot is becoming one of my favorites! Not only do they have some distinct flavors/syrups, they even serve fresh pupusas on occasion! Service was a little slow since they were pretty busy, and some of the staff seemed new or in training. Lots of small study tables, one cozy sofa, some seating at the bar and a few sidewalk tables - there's plenty of choice spots to relax here. They even have a room you can reserve for group meetings. I've been meaning to try this place for a minute. It's close to White Rock Lake. There were rumors of a Coffee Flight. I called ahead about the flight. Success! They're back! Masks asked to be worn while traveling to and from your table. The ambiance was charming af: plants everywhere and jazz music overhead. There's a tea menu and food menu (empanadas and all-day Breakfast burritos). Food menu even has GF options! Ample parking in the Casa Linda strip. There's WiFi. I used to frequent when they first opened and decided to stop in after a pool day, the pastries caught my eye and I got the raspberry danish and a honey lavender latte. My only reason for four stars is the staff were not very friendly and a bit cold, the gal at the register just stared at me until I ordered and just went "okay" and pointed at the reader. Their music is playing lightly in the background so it's a great place to work if you need a bit more of a quiet setting. A wonderful addition to East Dallas, El Porton offers delicious coffee and unique pastries wrapped up in a quaint little shop. I'm giving the coffee and shop itself four stars, though the coffee is really five stars - everything else is less than four stars so I decided to meet in the middle. While the coffee is great, no matter the time of the day or how many people (or not) are also in the shop, the staff does their best to never greet you, they avoid eye contact and act put out that you're taking moments from their day away. I've been going here for over well over a year and a half since they opened and it never changes. I even started ordering online through Clover in hopes of an easier and more enjoyable experience but even with that, it's less than stellar. Today I was the only one in the shop, had placed my order ahead of the time and come to the pick up counter like it says to in the order instructions and still I stood there for 5-7 minutes while the two baristas checked their phone, played around with the music playing in the cafe, and I guess wiped down the machines or something? Really anything they could do to avoid me. It happens every. single. time. I just think when you're charging almost $8 for this small, albeit delicious coffee, that a simple hello come along with it. Unfortunately, the service will be the reason El Porton eventually loses my business which totally sucks because it's preventable. read more
