Chicken N The Bag - Very good catfish. I went two days in a row!

Owners are Shervin and Maria. Sounds like they have family in several parts of the U.S., including California and the South, and also have strong roots in Grand Junction. And thankfully for the locals, because this has got to be some of the best Southern fried chicken and catfish in the state. I love that this is a family owned spot run out of a food truck that roves. They may be downtown or out near the Tractor Supply off of Highway 6 and 50, or at regional festivals and other events. Be sure to give them a call before you head over -- and you can place your order by phone as well. Which is a great idea. This food is fresh and can take 15-20 minutes before it is ready. My favorite is the catfish. Massive serving with a light, well-seasoned batter and served hot and very fresh. I could not believe you can get two large fillets and sides at only $21 -- pre-tip. That is an amazingly affordable price. I recommend fries (also a huge serving) and also the mac, which is both cheesy and a bit sweet. And check the menu for supply. They also have chicken, sandwiches, (very flavorful) wings and tenders, mash potatoes, sweet potato pie, greens, etc. Shervin and Maria, and one of their sons (who was helping out during one of my visits), seem like a lovely family who care deeply about Grand Junction and the food scene. They are very much local, while also open and welcoming to visitors. I look forward to seeing them again.

Now... I finally tried Rocky Mountain Oysters. Listen--no one prepared me for the fact they're flat. I thought they'd at least come with a warning label like "These are not popcorn chicken." But honestly? They were surprisingly tasty. And yes, I survived to tell the tale. My burger came out thick, juicy, and cooked just right--like a burger that knows who it is and is proud of itself. Paired with their craft beer lineup? Solid gold. Shoutout to Ryan, our bartender/server--attentive, chill, and made us feel right at home. But the highlight was Phil, the owner. The man walks around the place like he's hosting family dinner. Warm, genuine, and the kind of hospitality that sticks with you long after the last sip.

It did not disappoint. The have a front patio and a size covered one with a bat, which is where we sat. Lots of sports signs, flags etc. service was ok. A bit slow at times. We got a bbq bacon burger and the french dip sandwich. The meat on the sandwich was smoked. The sandwich was delicious, only complaint was there wasn't enough of the dipping juice. The burger was very good but a bit on the small side compared to the bun. Lots of other good looking things on the menu. We will be back for sure with or without the dogs.

We wanted something casual and hearty during a winter outing in Glenwood Springs, and had walked by the tantalizing signage for chicken wings here several times before stopping in for lunch. Inside - dead. And because none of the usual indoor lighting was lit, the interior just seemed sort of sad, dirty, and run-down. There was one front-staff worker whose first language was definitely not English who was cleaning at the time and quickly sat us down with some menus. We had sort of a hard time communicating and getting our order down, but he definitely was doing his best. We got an order of Jamaican Jerk whole wings and Hot Honey regular wings. What you see is what you get - presentation isn't looking to impress, but portion size is quite ample. The whole wings are legit chicken quarters and the Jamaican Jerk was not playing around - a punchy jerk seasoning that had both of us drinking deeply from the spice, while the Hot Honey was a pleasant crowd-pleasing mix of flats and drums with a solid sweet to spicy ratio. All in all, we enjoyed our wings but probably would try coming when things are a little more lively so it's easier to ignore the ambiance.
