Little place with around 10 tables and a Spanish music mix and fun colorful interior decor. Menu is large with plenty of variety for any diet. We ordered the Salsa & Dip Sampler, Veggie Fajitas, Sangria, and house Cerveza. Everything was excellent! Great and filling set for a vegan or gluten free person with corn tortilla options for Fajitas.

El Nopal restaurant has very good food. The winter weather is cold here in New York right now. In the past, I often traveled to Mexico during this time of year & I've had lots of Mexican food. So I cannot help comparing the food here to what I've had in Mexico. El Nopal offers a great selection with decent prices and portion sizes. If you get the tacos, suggest the Deluxe option. The standard taco was light on fillings. I tried the taco platter with rice and beans. To be honest, the black beans aren't something I had a lot of in Mexico - but still delicious! And very filling. Same thing with the Al Pastor Taco - good but the spices were mild. The House Green Sauce was extremely spicy - the complete opposite of the tacos. I mixed it with some mayonnaise to reduce the heat. The food was not overly salty which I appreciated. High quality food, professionally packaged, and love the green sauce !

El nopal is an absolute staple. Every dish is huge, flavorful, and leaves you wanting more! We come here almost every week and have never had a meal we didn't like. Can't beat $4 chips with three types of salsa. It's usually nice and lively inside and food comes out pretty quick especially considering the size and quality. If you want Mexican, this is our favorite on 5th Ave by far.

The plain Tostadas! They never disappoint.

This my fav since finding it in 2016. Although they stop doing there juices the food & drinks are good in my opinion! Oh, this is my neighborhood, born and raised! Unfortunately, because of greedy, greedy landlords, I was forced out of my own hood. I still come back from time to time, and this is one of my all-time favorites! It's small and quaint! They pretty much order the same thing and it's always delicious. I wish they still did they still offered there juices bc they were delicious. My go to is; the empanadas chips and salsa Brazilian sangria and house margarita I've also try their Tabasco burrito, Pernil, and my new favorite is the chicken tostadas! I'm a creature of habit, so any of the above is what I order. Oh & I forgot the grilled stuffed cactus. YUM!

    FROZEN MARGARITA

Accidentally stumbled into this authentic Mexican restaurant on a Saturday night and it was the best surprise find ever! Ordered both margs on the rocks and frozen margs and they were strong! Service was outstanding, our water was constantly refilled and they even had to go cups for your margs if you do not finish it. Loaded nachos are out of this world and the best one you'll ever find in all of NYC. All toppings were super fresh and chips were super crunchy and freshly fried. Worth the train ride to park slope.

I like this place a lot ! Portions are large and the food is packed with a punch of flavor. Everything is delicious from there tacos to the empanadas. If you go for the mild guacamole be mindful they are strong with the heat(and I'm a lightweight) but despite me requesting water every 5 minutes staff was cool about and laughed it off. This is real deal Mexican food. No frills. I like it. If your looking for the Americanized Mexican fancy margarita dos casinos style this is not for you.

    $4.50 worth of guacamole...

I order from this place pretty regularly and it's solid, if pricey. I highly recommend their nachos, pico de Gallo, and margaritas (unsure how they're still able to deliver booze but not asking any questions!) at least when it comes to taste. Values and portions are another story, with the exception of the frozen margaritas which are generously sized and delicious. Margaritas aside, their portions are laughable. A $4.50 "side of guacamole," is the size of a ketchup loader. A $6.50 order or pico comes in a tinnnnny container WITHOUT CHIPS! I was also a little miffed by my recent steak burrito order. While it was a good size, it was supposed to come with guac and there was none besides a smear of browning avocado on top. There was also very, very little "strip steak," inside and what I could taste was super over cooked and chewy, although I will say that the flavor was there. Definitely sticking to nachos and margaritas, moving forward. Also a plus one for their homemade salsas which are DELICIOUS. Deliveries are always prompt and the delivery guys are super friendly. They've also never messed up any requests (utensils, no sour cream etc.) which is awesome! I'm putting this place on my list to eat in - I have a feeling in person they might earn that fourth star.

There are no shortage of Mexican restaurants in South Slope but El Nopal is definitely one of the better ones around. They have a pretty big menu so it's nice to have choices other than burritos and tacos. We ordered the Guac and chips, a few tacos, the stuffed cactus, an empanada and a burrito bowl. The Guac and chips was good, but a little small to share even for 2 adults and 1 kid. It was very fresh and tasty though with more than enough chips for another bowl of Guac. The stuffed Cactus was so amazing! I've never had it before but the flavor was this savory cheesy goodness. I loved the chorizo in every bite. This is a must try here. The carnitas and al pastor tacos was very good. The empanada was ok. The steak in the burrito bowl was too salty but tasted better once mixed in with the rice and beans. Needs more guac though. It's a pretty small spot with mostly 2-4 seaters so if you have a big group, it's gonna be tough. Minus 1 point for plate sharing fee. We ordered a lot for 2 adults and my 5 year old had an empanada and some of my rice and beans. They charged me a $3 sharing fee. It's not a lot of money but I just felt it wasn't right to charge a fee for a child under 10 years old.

Brown and gross "made to order Guacamole"!?!!!!

This place has good food when the right people are working. Sadly, when the wrong people are working they don't care what they deliver and they don't care about their customers. Seriously the person on the phone is swearing to me they made this guacamole minutes before it was delivered. Maybe they made it with spoiled Avocados??? They refuse to correct their mistakes. When asked to send what was ordered instead of a refund we were told by Gloria that she refused to serve us. We were then told if we placed another order she would refuse to serve us!!?!? All because they can't deliver what they advertise on their menu?

Our reservation was for 8:30pm, but we arrived early and Alejandra, the hostess, was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Even though she was ready to seat us, we decided to hang at the bar until the rest of our party arrived and that was the perfect move. Alkarys behind the bar was top-tier. She recommended the Siempre Reposado, and let me tell you... smooth, clean, dangerously good. If you're into tequila, that's a must. Now let's talk about the food. We ordered the quesadilla, rajas, tamales, tacos, and the queso fundido and every single dish hit. The queso fundido came out bubbling, rich, perfectly melted with that pull you want when you scoop it up. The tamales were moist and packed with flavor, wrapped beautifully and clearly made with care. The rajas had that perfect balance of roasted pepper sweetness and savory depth. The tacos? Authentic, well-seasoned, and layered with flavor, no shortcuts. Even the quesadilla stood out, crispy on the outside with that perfectly melted interior. Everything felt traditional, elevated but still true to its roots. You can taste the authenticity. Service was attentive without being overbearing, the ambiance was super casual and laid back, the kind of Brooklyn spot you pull up to for a real dinner experience, not just a quick bite. Highly recommend this place if you're out and about in Brooklyn. Definitely coming back for the tequila, the queso fundido, and round two of those tacos. I'm gonna try eating at the bar to check out the spot in the front of the house.

4.4 and rounded up. Ambiance 4 stars…read more Food 5 stars. Service 4.3 stars. AMBIANCE: Walking to the restaurant from the subway, it's located on an unassuming block at the corner of 4th St and Havemeyer in Williamsburg, front of store doesn't particularly stand out. Walking in they've decorated with creative, crafty (in a good way) touches--the multitude of ropes draped from the ceiling add dimension to the ceiling and the bar back wall is composed of wood pieces forming a multi-colored herringbone pattern. Textured glass pendant lights hanging from the ceiling throw mini geometric patterns across the dark walls, and vibrant canvas artworks add pictorial interest along the walls. FOOD: YUM. I can see why this place was jam packed on a Saturday night, and reservations are needed. Strong recommendation for their tasting menu at $58 pp, what a delightful meal! 8 sharing dishes and 3 desserts were perfect for a party of five, and drinks are separate though you can add a cocktail pairing for $47. For each main they provide a serving per person, and the desserts are shared. I came hungry and was so full by the end of the meal--everything was delicious! - grapefruit guacamole w/house-made chips: the grapefruit chunks were "meaty" and surprisingly went really well with the guac, it added a different citrus element than the usual lime. Comes with a small bowl of maybe 6-7 chips and we asked for two chips refills since the chips to guac and salsa ratio was low. - spicy faroe islands' salmon tartar: tasty and I liked the latin flavors and corn, snow peas, a touch of wasabi. Flavors of the sesame-soy-truffle-lemon vin and crema got a little muddled. Relatively more "generic" dish of the evening though I was here for it! Any dish with fresh tender salmon, I can't complain. - blue crab and carrot tostada, generous shredded crab salad on top of freshly crisp blue corn tortilla. Topped with pumpkin seeds, dill, cilantro, and saffron-orange aioli. - three cheese & artichoke 'queso fundido': served in a very hot ceramic pot and super melty and delicious, eaten with the fluffy grilled pita and green apple slices + salsa. One of the top picks of the evening. - roasted bone marrow and chorizo, served as tacos with fresh blue corn tortillas, and added a sprinkle of pickled onions--does that sound amazing? Bc it was AAHMAZING. - spicy chipotle-guajillo shimp 'diablo' (not spicy): served with pumpkin tortillas and three accompaniments on the side--mushroom chile crisp, horseradish crema, celery 'salsa macha". Part 2 to make your own tacos was another hit! Our entire table agreed if they sold the sauce for the shrimp we'd all buy it. - heritage pork osso bucco 'carnitas' with Fall-spiced black mole, sour cherry mostardo, calabrian chile pesto: cue drooling now. This part 3 of the tacos was served on pumpkin tortillas; the meat was practically falling off the bone, tender, juicy and flavorful. - buffalo-style com 'elote: sooo good too! A little messier to eat since it comes drizzled with spicy hot sauce butter, feta, lime aioli, cilantro, though totally worth it! - Desserts: --green tea matcha churros: comes with two little pots of spiced mexican chocolate & passion fruit sauce. Warm, sugary and crisp without being too sweet. --pumpkin spiced-vanilla flan: topped with sour cherries, cocoa nibs & toasted seed 'trail mix", if you love flan you'll love this, so smooth and creamy with a bit of crunch and tang from the cherries. --pistachio tres leches cake with cream cheese frosting, raspberry, using an olive oil cake: we all agreed this was probably the best tres leches we've ever had. The pistachio nuttiness and the creaminess from the milks paired well. SERVICE: Very friendly and attentive service though it was very loud in the restaurant and they had to really shout. There was a delay in the middle of our meal I think bc kitchen was slammed, after the entree we waited about 35 min for our desserts. Considering they limited the seating to 2 hours and about half of our party arrived 20 min late, and accounting for the long wait pre-dessert, they did us solid by extending our table time by about an hour in total. Also great that they brought the first dessert out with a candle for my friend's birthday.
