Dogs are welcome on the patio.
Tara S.

Gosh, I love this place! They get everything right. The food is delicious, they make service look effortless, and the patio is spacious and you can bring a dog! I usually get Enchiladas Mole but tonight I tried the Enchiladas Suizas. What a good decision that was! Not only did the platter look appealing - the sauce and cheese on top had been beautifully browned under a broiler - but the Suizas sauce had a welcome vinegar tang to it. I've never had Suizas like it and it made for such a great change from the usual. My partner took some of the sauce for his Beefsteak Tacos and declared that he'd be ordering the Suizas next time we go.

The flavorless rice and black beans.

As a white person, my German grandma makes more flavorful Mexican food than this place. We were highly disappointed for what we paid and what we got. The enchiladas with ranchero sauce tasted like a can of tomato soup was poured over the enchiladas. The shredded and fajita chicken were totally flavorless. The atmosphere was cute, looked like the food should have tasted way better. The menu was mostly in Spanish, so we had higher expectations. We ate what most of what was presented to us, simply because we were starving and we had not eaten most of the day. The server only checked on us one time while we were eating. We will not be back to this place. I'm only giving one star because I can't give it a zero. One and done!

Penelope's and Meson merged. Sunday Brunch.
Priscy C.

Was thinking to go to Penelope's for brunch see that they merged with Meson, wonderful find! The Sunday brunch was amazing customer service, attentiveness, cleanliness was amazing. Don't forget to validate parking when you walk in. And most importantly was such a large variety didn't get to taste all the amazing delicious food, but what I did have was fantastic. Caution don't get drunk off the tres leches cake. Only gripe 18% gratuity included in the bill, which it was disclosed when seated.

Flight of gauc.
Nate T.

I wanted this place to be perfect. It wasn't quite perfect but it sure was good. Excellent drinks, a nice flight of gauc, and queso just shy of the best in Austin -- but larger than other places so maybe that counts for a lot! And they have freaking REAL tortilla chips, ie, chips made FORM TORTILLAS and not just he mashed corn meal silliness that so many other places pass off as "tortilla chips." In general, the portions are large, which is great. If you are looking for value for your dollar, this place is better than most. Friendly wait staff, and a nice atmosphere make this gem worth returning to. Is it the best of its genre? Nope. But is it worth the visit, the time and the expense? Yep.

chile relleno de res

if you are looking for a salt-less, pepper-less, season-less meal, this is the place for you. i recommend the house margarita with extra lime pulp and a warm beer. i asked for a tajin rim, and got a salt rim. the store bought tortillas tasted .... store bought. not a good sign when you go at 6:30 on a saturday and no one is there. cute decorations though

Chips, salsa and pickled veggies
Catherine M.

Located on Lamar, this place is a bit further from Zilker Park than your run of the mill Mexican restaurants (I'm looking at you, Maudie's!) but the extra walk/drive is worth it. The chips are my favorite! It's thick and a bit sweet. It also comes with two types of salsa and pickled veggies. They also have an amazing tamarind cocktail! Their flautas de carne was delicious. The flautas de papa was excellent by itself or dipped in the chicken soup. P.S. They have outdoor seating that isn't too noisy, given that it's right off of Lamar.

Stew!

This was my first time here and I've been wanting to try it for years! The food is all central Mexican. It shares parking with the other restaurants/bars in the complex but we were able to find parking pretty easily on a Saturday evening. We tried: - queso- more like a fundido, it didn't have a ton of flavor. I wouldn't get this again. - taquitos carne - these were delicious, especially the cheese/sour cream sauce on top. However, it was a super small portion size for the same price as other larger plates. - bistek tacos - my friend loved these and said they tasted authentic - enchiladas - these were the crispy kind. They were very good but I think would have been tastier with some sauce on top or available to dip - stew - soo good! I'd get this next time. I'll definitely be back to try more!

Unfortunately, the kitchen just wasn't on their game this day. We went for brunch and it is a lovely restaurant with some amazing looking pastries. My ratings of the food we got are below. Overall, everything was just okay and not something I would order again. Our order: Salami and cheese - 1/10, not even edible with how much olive oil they dumped on it. Hard cheese and meat. None of us touched it. Frites - 9/10, hard to go wrong here. Nice and crispy French cruller - 7/10, I think this is just personal presence here I wished it was warmed up. Flavor was good but it was a little dry. Burger - 5/10, the flavor is there and definitely has potential but it was so bloody and rare which is not what we asked for. My friend has a gluten allergy and she asked for the burger lettuce wrapped and it just came on top of a huge chunk of iceberg so wouldn't recommend that if you want it lettuce wrapped. Chicken sandwich - 8/10, this was good with a nice crispy chicken. It could have used something sweet to balance the spice though it was a little one dimensional.

Upon entry was greeted by Melissa and sat in her section. The decor is very diner type with low, cozy booths and few tables and chairs. Not too big of a space and not sure if there is more seating elsewhere. Anyhoo, coffee was good and I got the Royal toast and a single pancake with eggs, and sausage. Ample amount of food and def had take away box. Everything was tasty and the buttermilk pancake was amazing with just syrup. Melissa was kind enough to provide little cups to take syrup home along with the tael away container. They had a daily special and a board above the kitchen with other items. Really wanted to try a slice of pie ( TX Pie Co) but seems a bit outta line with what I already ordered. Maybe next time.

I drove by it for 20 years on the way to Avenue Barber Shop. I wanted shredded beef tacos but couldn't get them without cilantro so I chose shredded beef enchiladas (with an $8!) side of chips and salsa. My wife ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries. She requested soft eggs, as she always does because too many places overcook them. The chips and salsa arrived. I was immediately disappointed. The menu said "we make our own chips." They were thick and yellow and appeared to be run-of-the-mill, out-of-a-bag chips. I prefer the thin white ones. I took one bite of salsa, and that was one bite too many. Cumin. I pushed it all aside. Cumin doesn't belong in salsa. (Sorry. I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley.) My enchiladas came with black beans, and there was cumin in them. Cumin is overused and abused in most restaurants. I couldn't eat them. The rice was good but the chipotle sauce on the enchiladas was not. I scraped most of the sauce off and ate one enchilada, mainly because I just needed something in my stomach. We were still 45 miles from home. I pushed my plate away. I also ordered coffee. One sip of that was all I could stand. Too weak for me. It gets worse, much worse. My wife's eggs were barely cooked. She asked the waiter for some cooked eggs. He took her plate and returned about four minutes later. The eggs were still not cooked. She tried another bite but couldn't eat them. Her bacon was tough as a boot and not chewable. The home fries were average, but by the time her plate arrived at our table for the second time, they were cold. I pulled my card out waiting for our excellent server to return. He asked how everything was (he had to notice two plates still covered with food) and we politely told him. I ate one enchilada and some rice. My wife had two bites of egg and two bites of potato. He apologized and handed me the check. $65. Nothing comped and nothing adjusted. A manager should've been summoned. How does a place like this have any customers? It was our first and last visit.

It's a small space, with only around eight tables and a tiny kitchen behind the counter. It's a bit hard to locate from outside. There's no big sign on the window indicating the restaurant's name, just a plastic A-frame sign outside the building's doors. When I got there, four of the eight tables were empty but the dirty dishes had not yet been cleared. It took close to 10 minutes for the tables to be bused. Because the kitchen is so small, I'd recommend going up to the counter to order as soon as you get there. I believe you can also place your order online using the QR code on the table, but I didn't try that method. I ordered the lox n found, a toasted croissant roll with smoked salmon, avocado, dill ricotta, arugula, onion, and capers. The menu says it also comes with a side of roasted potatoes, but mine didn't come with that. The sandwich was delicious and filling, so I definitely didn't need them, but I do feel like I didn't get what I paid for.
