    Al carbon shrimp taco
    Aja H.

Nope, nope and nope. Ordered a combination meal and got a green chicken enchilada, all beans and a al carbon shrimp taco. The enchilada had absolutely no garnish, my beans were cold, in which I had to add my own sour cream and the taco was beyond soggy! My husband's combination plate was a green chili tamale that had absolutely no sauce, super small serving of rice and beans and a soggy taco. For the price point, nope, won't be back!

Rarely do I give a place four stars but the food here is memorable to say the least. The restaurant itself is nothing special, just very casual where you order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. But the food, excellent. It not only looks good but tastes good as well. While a picture shows the look and presentation it can't convey how great it really tastes. While the sauce was a little thinner than most places and the cheese wasn't melted and the chicken wasn't shredded but chunks of white meat it was 4 star. Of the three tacos the shrimp was not my favorite but still way above average. The barbacoa taco was my favorite with the el carbon second. It's probably now my favorite taco and maybe even full Mexican restaurant in phoenix.

Food: delicious all the way t through. From the beans and rice to the smoky spicy red sauce that covered the generous portion of shrimp on my dish! Tried the taco with the dipped in red sauce with melted cheese and your choice of protein. They serve nice cold beers, china mist tea and soda! The service was fast and efficient with friendly folks taking your food request at the counter and boot out to your table. Ambiance is nicely decorated and very clean. I will definitely be back to try some other food options.

Such delicious tacos and they were so big!! Very flavorful and the tortillas for the specialty ones had great texture. The aguas frescas are very refreshing. Very reasonable price.

    Very bland and salty!

We normally go for the shrimp but this time they introduced abondingas which is a fav soup of mine so was very excited to try it. Unfortunately it was very disappointed as it was bland and too salty, not much flavor at all. I did let them know just in case no one else spoke up.

I've had a lot of takeout from this spot, and I'm never disappointed. We usually order a bunch of street burritos, but I finally tried their famous taco trio and enjoyed the variety. Their shrimp was the best, especially paired with their salsa. They have pretty big portions and good value for the money. I look forward to the next time I'm faced with the difficult choice of street burrito or tacos.

This place is very good. I was impressed. Really fresh ingredients. I got tacos but a few others got the fajita plate and the mango salad. Quick service. You order at the front and then sit and eat. Not expensive. Easy parking. Big fan, we'll be back.

Delicious chicken inside the street Burrito. I love this thing.

Wow have I been missing out. This little Mexican food spot is within walking distance from my house and I stopped in today for a burrito. Dang was this burrito delicious. It was everything I look for in a burrito, big beautiful and delicious. I loved the flavor of the beans and rice as well as the sliced pieces of chicken that were inside the burrito. The employees were very nice and professional, and the food came out in a timely manner...I took a piece of the burrito home for my wife to try, and her eyes got big when she took a bite...I have a feeling we will both be coming back for the Street Burrito. Check this place out, it's awesome.

Fish taco- my least favorite taco...lacks favor - fish needs more seasoning and too much cabbage.
    Katie R.

I'm still giving this place 5 stars but because their taco trio has the best 3 tacos in town and everytime we order them they are fantastic. Especially the Shrimp Governador. But when I stray away from those, we are disappointed. The fish taco lacked flavor. The traditional Enchiladas weren't very good at all. My husband gave them 2.5 out of 5 stars because he didn't like the sauce which was too tomato-ey, the meat lacked seasoning, and he said it had too much cabbage. But he wanted to make sure I still maintained 5 stars for my review because the Taco Trio is soo good.

    Kids meal barbacoa taco
    Karen W.

It is a Fogon conclusion that for good Mexican food eats in the 'Tukee head to El Fogon. They seriously have some legit tacos. We ordered a wide array of several types and left full and happy. I had the fish taco and shrimp taco and tried a bite of the barbacoa. The tacos are double layered with corn tortillas which helps maintaining stability so that the taco doesn't fall apart. On some of the tacos they'll dip the outer tortilla in sauce and then fry it for some extra deliciousness. I enjoyed both of my seafood tacos. The fish was flaky and tender, and the shrimp were plump. The barbacoa was awesome and I'd probably opt to get this next time I'm here. They include some consomé to dip your taco which is a nice touch. The kiddo got a barbacoa taco kids meal which includes a drink, rice, beans, and your choice of protein with the taco. Her taco was also double tortilla'd. I'm trying to avoid my kid being a sugar and soda zombie so I was disappointed that there weren't really any good options for drinks for kids other than sodas, lemonade and Hi-C. At other similar restaurants they've offered milk which I would have opted for. I know that the very fact that I'm getting tacos and dining-in means I'm not getting the healthiest experience regardless but hey, you gotta splurge in some places and be more health conscious in others, ya know? I was also disappointed that there wasn't any more iced tea left at the drink counter. The small trickle of tea that I managed to get in my cup did taste good at least.

When you walk in everything is clean and smells like real food! Greeted by a friendly smiling staff with lots of room for big family. The food was perfect. So hot, and yummy needs to be spicier but lots of vegetables and great meat!!!

The tacos are fantastic, the fries are life-changing, and the hongos fries specifically deserve their own national holiday. This place made the Top 100 food spots in America list, and honestly? Deserved. It's the best taco spot in the country in my opinion and makes places like Torchy's feel like they're competing in junior varsity. The vibe is also way above average for a taco joint; lively, clean, and full of people who look like they just took their first bite and immediately started planning their next visit. The taco crew is always friendly too, even while dealing with lines longer than a DMV on a Monday. If you don't know what to order, here's the move: Get one taco or an especial if you're a cheese enthusiast, a medium fry with your topping of choice, and guac with chips. That's the kind of meal that makes you sit in your car afterward thinking about your life choices in a positive way. Enjoy. And maybe stretch beforehand because you're going to want to fight someone over the last hongos fry.

Since this establishment offered various types of tacos, we tried a bit of different kinds and overall enjoyed the differences in taste and texture. Specifically, I thought the sonoran taco was very innovative as it involved two kinds of salsa to provide a color juxtaposition, which also offered the carne asada different experiences in flavor. I also enjoyed the costra taco which was made with caramelized cheese over it, offering a pleasant fried flavor on the tortilla itself. The barbacoa taco was very juicy since the beef was very well-made. In contrast, the carne asada taco was a bit dry for some reason, and relied on the avocado salsa for both taste and juiciness. The fish taco didn't have enough fish, and had a lot of batter around the fish along with excessive pickled onion pieces. Since this spot is located in a very nice area, the arts district, I would recommend it to anyone that's around the area. It'd be a nice lunch after visiting the Phoenix Art Museum, which is only a mile away from here!

I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.
