Took my girlfriend here for a date night. Was a little wary after reading some of the recent reviews but took a chance anyway. I have to say it was a great experience. Set a reservation (though not necessary) just to be on the safe side. We were immediately seated and the service was prompt throughout the meal. Went with the seafood chimichangas and they were AMAZING. Happened to be on margarita Monday as well so that's always a plus. The decor is older but I feel like it's a plus and adds to the charm of the place. Went here on new years eve 2018 (a Monday) with my cousin who goes here frequently. I recently had a baby and she suggested it as a good place for margaritas, MY FAV! Plus she said its always half off margs on MONDAYS, PERFECT!!! We went with our spouses and the four of us had our margs. My cousin and i proceeded to have several more, half off monday, right, and yes they were good!!!! Well we got our bill and the margs were NOT half off. We asked the waitress if we had missed a posting or ad somewhere that clarified that the discounted margs were excluded on holidays. She said she didnt know of anything so we asked to speak to a manager. We asked the manager the same question and all i can say is she was RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!!! She said they dont post it, that people just know... uuuggghhh oookkkkk....what the hell does that mean!!! I mean how many holidays even land on a MONDAY and i guess they arent expecting new customers on those days who dont just magically know half off margs dont apply! We suggested that they inform the wait staff to let customers know prior to ordering, then she rolled her eyes at us. So i guess that's not happening! Fantastic steaks! Very excellent margaritas!!(although they are small and 8 bucks a pop). Tortilla chips and salsa is satisfying while waiting for food. Sautéed mushrooms are da bomb! My only grievance is the the fried onions that they drape over everything. It's over kill. I also would like a lil cheese on my side salad. The aesthetics are a lil outdated, but I'm here for the food. read more

Haven't been there in a while but remember the food was always good. Apparently my memory is fading because the food was awesome. I had the sirloin and the wife had a grilled pork. The sirloin was better than the ribeye at most places. Her pork chop was awesome too and cooked perfectly. Device was dismal but they kill it on Monday nights. Margaritas are $5 all day Monday's I do have a complaint though. What little draft beer they have they serve in a thimble - seriously I think it holds 10 ounces. I'm sure that added to the poor service it's about 4 sips. read more

We went last night, 9/10/11, and just wanted to kick it on the patio because it was nice out. The patio was very nice. The sign on the side of the building said they've been there since 1975. We got mozzarella cheese sticks, their queso dip with jalapenos, and a side of re-fried beans. Chips and salsa were complimentary, claro, so I mixed salsa, beans, and queso on each chip and it was really good. The salsa was hot and chunky, the chips crisp, the queso smooth and creamy, and the beans were surprisingly fresh and better than your average beans. The mozzarella cheese sticks were good (hard to mess those up). After scraping the queso and beans dry we got a couple of desserts. Tara got a Peanut Butter Cream Pie mini dessert which was a really nice size, but the top layer was too rich! The middle of it was really good though. I got a piece of cheesecake with caramel and it was good. Tara had a frozen margarita with salt and she said it was good. She wasn't dancing on the table after drinking it though, so it might not have been strong enough. Next time I'll get her two margaritas and we'll see what happens. I just had the sweet tea, it was kind of average. Kelly was our server and she did a good job, she was on it. She said she's worked there for three years. Had the menu been more vegetarian friendly I might have gotten an entree too, but we had enough to kill a couple of hours and had a fun time anyway. We'll probably go back next summer. read more

El Coyote in Anderson is horrible. I'm writing this weeks after my last visit, and yet each time we go we ask ourselves... Have we not learned our lesson yet? Bottom line we love margaritas and theirs are pretty decent. Of course the mash potatoes are great blah blah blah but who wants to pay to be treated like an inconvenience and to pay for bad service. The service is so bad you either get really mad or you actually have to laugh from disbelief. Depending on how many margaritas you've had if you laugh or not. Reviews written about how salty the food is is so true! But don't bother complaining to staff and if you think the owner is going to care think again. I have literally never come across a more rude man in my life. I'll spare you the long write up but he actually yelled at me for wanting to order a whole pie and I was unaware it needed to be preordered. No big deal I thought it's just a pie...but i kid you not he yelled at me! So unprofessional and just right out weird. So rude he was and he didn't seem to care what I thought? Went on a Monday for half-priced margaritas, as advertised on the website. Upon getting the bill and seeing the margaritas were full price, we asked. Supposedly they don't have half-price margaritas. We asked for the manager and showed him the website from our phones, and he proceeded to tell us he didn't have the authority to adjust the bill or change prices (huh?). Additionally, everything was so salty it was pretty much inedible. I got the sour cream enchiladas which I think may have been good if I hadn't felt like I had been served a deer salt lick. Birthday dinner ruined by server and manager. Basically got kicked out at 9 even when they closed at 10. Management was terrible and extremely rude. Asked why our server (stacy) was upset and she told us she should have auto grated our party. I tried to make up for anyone who did not tip properly and she walked away. Management came over and we asked him if there was a problem and he was very very unprofessional to us. Love the food but clearly need an upgrade on management. read more

I'll make this simple: This is a Mexican restaurant with no Mexicans working in it (not even the kitchen). The menu has very little actual Mexican food on it (mostly burgers). Our waitress asked if we wanted a 'brewski'! People were nice, service fine... but really, not a Mexican restaurant. Get employees that refuse to work unless soccer is on every tv! Let me say, I understand why people like this place so much....too a point. The food is better than average, but there's just something about this place that drives me crazy whenever my in laws want to go there. The service is never bad, but it's never been great either. It's always efficient, but it just lacks a personal quality that I get when springing for similarly priced meals elsewhere. At other places, I feel treated as a "guest", but at El Coyote I've always felt like more of a number. I think I have a theory on this and it's the fact that there either isn't management or there isn't any management that's visible. The last time we were there, one of the dinners came out cold. Not a big deal, we just asked if it could be heated up. The problem was it came back with a thumbprint in the mashed potatoes. This is something that in any other similarly priced restaurant would have immediately been handled by management. I'm not looking for anything free, just someone to come over and apologize. When I went up to the hostess stand to ask to speak to a manager, I was told there wasn't one and I could talk to the bartender if I wanted. I just don't understand that. I know I know, everyone and their brother loves El Coyote. Their first opportunity to impress me (and frankly it's the same for every Mexican joint ) is to make their own chips; If you're going to tout your salsa, half that equation is the chip man. The salsa was fine (no bite for me and frankly more chunky and less saucy and cilantro heavy) but the chips were awful, they tasted like these guys went to the closest convenience store and bought the worst possible/cheapest chips available: Over salted, kinda stale almost. Frankly it reminds me of the 'thrifty chips' my mom would buy when we were on a budget as I was growing up: Stale over-salted chips that had lived in the cupboard since before Eisenhower. Strike one. Ok, Thursday nights are a popular night to go out, but you can't have me sitting there waiting to get a drink for 15 minutes. Strike two. read more

I absolutely love this place. Have eaten here many many times over the years and have never had a complaint. I know many people rave about the porkchops I have yet to try them but I have tried many of their steaks and they are absolutely wonderful always perfectly cooked.definitely worth trying if you have not had the chance. read more

My husband and I decided to come for our anniversary dinner. I had tried it once probably 8 years ago. After trying it for the first time I decided if I were to ever come back I would not try any of the tex-mex style food because thats what I got on the first try and it was a huge disappointment. You can go to any mexican food joint and get much better food at much better prices. We went to the Anderson location. We had just moved to the area and live only 5 minutes away. Any day of the week you can pass this place and it is packed. For that reason we decided to try it. Our server was friendly. That is probably the nicest thing I can say. My husband and I sat across from each other in a booth. By the end of the meal I was sitting next to him. The booths were very flimsy and I spent a majority of the time being knocked around in the booth because the kids sitting behind us bouncing around. My husband ordered a steak and I ordered pork chops. The steak and the pork chops were below average. I tried my husband's steak and it was nothing special. I have ordered steak at many other restaurants and all have surpassed Coyote. The pork chops were overcooked and dry. Sad to say that the meat was the best part of the meal. All of the side items tasted like generic frozen foods. Personally, I can only figure that anyone who was impressed with this place has never tried genuinely good food or was drunk by the time they ate. Coyote was a huge disappointment. After spending $100 on a dinner for 2 people we didn't even want to take home any of the leftovers. It absolutely blows my mind how this place stays busy! Skip this place! You can get better food almost anywhere else. read more

I eat here 2-3 tmes a year only because of the convenience of it being so close to my house in Anderson Twp. Each time I eat here, I tell myself I will not be coming back; but sometimes I need a convenient location to eat and I keep hoping that my next meal there would be somewhat better. The food is not that terrible, but at the same time, i don't think that I've actually had a good meal here. For the price of their meals, they can do better. read more

Been here twice, and I'm still not sure what type of cuisine I classify this under. It's like a Chili's had a one-night stand with a Don Pablo's, and unfortunately, still not as classy (if you can classify a Chili's as classy). The saving grace and easily worth the stars in the review are the margaritas. Enjoy getting them half and half (frozen/on the rocks). Perfect amount of liquor and not any of that fake sweet mix crap some places will load you up with. The food doesnt do anything for me. As a fan of Tex-Mex, this place totally bastardizes it. But if a big enchilada and a side of mac n' cheese is your kind of thing, this place is totally for you. Never had a bad time with the wait staff. They are all really nice and just doing their job well. Quick on drinks, taking orders, and getting the check. If you say you're gonna take your time, they'll just ask you to wave them down. I'll continue to come back for the ritas and the location. Kinda became one of those guilty pleasures whenever we are back in town. read more

We are long time patrons and enjoy El Coyote. We had a party of 8, all arriving at different times. The hostess was kind enough to seat us as we came in, not having to wait for entire party to arrive. Good thing because we couldn't wait to get started on those pitchers of Half and Half Margaritas! We all had different entrees. My petite filet was cooked a nice medium rare. Others had seafood enchiladas, chimichanga, grilled shrimp and pork chops. The pork chops are usually excellent but tonight came out over charred and too well done; not as juicy. We did not send back. Just chalked it up to a busy night. Overall a great night. The $1 up charge for more chips and salsa is a bit petty. Maybe make that the standard but if you have a good check going on a table, waive it. read more

Older place with an amazing staff. Reason for 3 stars is the price. Way to expensive for what you get and the quality of it. You get a much better porterhouse steak at texas roadhouse cheaper. Would go back in a pinch but i think most budget conscious people will be dissapointed. read more

Not what it used to be. Food quality and portions are smaller. Ate their last evening at the bar and took too long to receive the meal & it was luke warm. Was only one bartender working and he was quite busy may have been the reason. Their famous margaritas don't tast the same either. I should have left when the hostess prior to acknowledging us left to refill chip baskets with us standing at the hostess stand. The menu is big, with a lot of choices. The texmex stuff is pretty much under $20. The steaks and seafood escalate quickly to $20+ to $35. We ordered drinks which did come promptly. I ordered the steak fajita burrito with a salad and onion rings. My wife ordered chicken fajitas with black bean soup and mash potatoes. After about 10 minutes the soup came out. Basically it was black beans in water with onions and sour cream on the side. My salad was MIA. Before I could ask our server was gone. (In fairness she and another server were attending to a party of 30 that had come in after us) Another 15 minutes our entrees arrived. The "burrito" was a few pieces of steak fajita wrapped in a flour tortilla. Iceberg lettuce and a few cut up tomato on the side and sour cream. The onion rings were ok. We asked about the salad, to which they apologized and offered another side. I didn't want to hold up things any longer so I didn't order anything else. The chicken fajitas were a grilled chicken breast and a few coarse cut vegetables. The mashed potatoes had that 'hard on top cold in the middle sitting on a warmer' texture. Our server did check on us once right after the food came and then was MIA (maybe with the salad) We had to ask another server for our bill. We paid and left, not to return. $48 prior to tip (food, 1 margarita and 2 draft beers). Not nearly as good as Chipotle, at 3 times the price. read more

The place is in dire need of a makeover in the interior of the building. The outside was impeccably manicured with nice flowers however. First thing I noticed however was a strong aroma of urine coming from the bathroom--I could smell it from my table. Service was good however the server was a bit intense at times. The food was ok, but I wouldn't go there for Mexican food. The re-fried beans were sweet and the rice just tasted like Zatarans. We wanted to branch out from our normal Mexican places and we won't do it again. I'm sure the other food was great, but it was not what we were looking for. Quality and quantity have decreased. Ordered the halibut and it was about 1/3 of the size as previously served (always get this here). When I asked the waitress was very argumentative and tried to tell me it was the same. Overall the was the third time staff was argumentative and the wait staff in general was not friendly. I didn't even actually eat because the price of the halibut was the same despite the significant price change. They didn't even offer or send a manager over. Disappointing as this used to be my favorite place to eat. They also now charge past one bowl of salsa and chips. read more

The best pork chops I've ever had. The steak is amazing too. However both of these are over 22.00. For that kind of money I expect a much nicer atmosphere. The restaurant is dark, dingy, and extremely outdated. read more

We are here having margaritas and an appetizer before ordering our dinner and the owner walks up and I compliment one of his employees to him and he says "I'll be the judge of that" and I started to respond to him and he turned his head and started talking to someone else and then walked away! Wow! Needless to say we aren't going to order dinner here!!! read more

Best Margarita I have ever had, food was fantastic- and the service was fantastic. It was worth the 30 mile drive, we will be back.
