We came across this restaurant during our visit to Williams and my husband wants to go back for another breakfast. They are very kind and were kind to get me a special morning coffee that I enjoyed very much in a tall beautiful cup. We each ate our meals with pleasure. I had chilequiles with red sauce and some of the good table salsa. My husband devoured his plate of Chile Verde omelette with papas and cheese. It all was homemade style. We literally walked out! The menu is basic at best, poor service and I tried to make one special request and was told "no" it was a simple and easy request nothing out of the norm! They also charge for chips and salsa, at a SIT DOWN MEXICAN restaurant!?!? I have never heard of that! A second round yea, but first round nope! This visit to Williams is starting off on the wrong foot. The hotel had some issues that will be in a later review. I just needed a good dinner it's 5:30 and I haven't eaten since 8:30am. I am hangry now. Its my pet peeve to go into a Mexican restaurant and not be served hot chips and salsa. I can't eat the salsa anymore but I do enjoy the warm chips. You won't get that here, they will charge you 4.50 for a basket of chips and salsa. Then everywhere on the menu substitutions they will charge you $1. The tortillas with the dinners you get one flour or 3 corn. Any extra tortillas again $1 each. The soup the comes with the dinner is a tomato based soup and because I can't eat tomatoes I said I can you do a salad. I was informed he would charge for that. I said even due to a medical issue? He said "it's okay I will do it" so I figured there is no up charge or I would have just got the soup for my son. The salad came and you can see by the picture it's a joke. My son ate it. Food comes and my food is lukewarm. I just kept quiet and ate it the whole time I am so irritated. Then the bill comes and yes I was charge for the salad. It was $6 for a small basket of chips and very very mild salsa. I've never been to a sit down Mexican restaurant where I had to pay for chips and salsa before. The salsa was basically tomato sauce. No heat at all, no cilantro, no onion. I don't get it. So bland. I got carnitas tacos which I split with my cousin. They were good. A very small spattering of beans and some rice. Both also flavorless. I guess they don't believe in flavoring their food. Her daughter got chicken nachos. Again, no seasoning on the chicken. And hardly any cheese at all. So weird. Pork Enchiladas was decent. Would not recommend the Fish Tacos, fish taste off and a bit too fishy. Asada fries probably the best dish I had here. Margaritas were okay but tasted like there were more sugar than alcohol. My burrito was stuff with steak, it also comes with soup and rice/beans. Most restaurants like these usually come with free chips and salsa so slightly disappointed to not get that. Food and margaritas were wonderful. We were here during the mask + social distancing part of Covid so seating was limited and we had to wait for over an hour for a table for our party of 5. No problem...go walk the town! Wow, was it worth the wait. We were walking back to our overnight accommodations, so margaritas were consumed by the pitcher. They were great. Very meh food- edible but not enjoyable. I got the pork green chili burrito which they said was one of their classics. It was quite literally a tortilla filled with green chili sauce. It was entirely liquid- I don't know how they were even able to roll the burrito. It was just spoonful after spoonful of salsa. More like soup than a burrito. The people I was with got the shrimp tacos, carne asada, and a burrito dinner. None of them enjoyed their meals. In a small town with only a handful of restaurants and a lot of tourists, all the restaurants are busy. That was the case when we visited. I wanted good Mexican food so I was willing to wait 45 minutes for a table. It was so worth it! The restaurant isn't huge and the tables were socially distanced so I'm sure their seating capacity was lower than normal. It's clean, inviting, and the employees were friendly as they were swiftly moving around serving their customers. We started off with drinks. My kids got sodas and the adults shared a pitcher of margaritas. The margaritas weren't particularly strong but they were delicious. We ordered a variety of dishes. My oldest son ordered the nachos and he really liked them. My younger son ordered a bean and cheese burrito. He also liked his meal. I ordered enchiladas and asked for beans as the filling. I got the green sauce on my enchiladas. I love spicy food and the green sauce was perfect. Actually, it was so good that my husband and I both asked for more on the side. They were probably the best enchiladas I've had in years. My husband ordered the chile relleno special which came with hard quesadillas. My husband really enjoyed his chile relleno. I was intrigued by the hard quesadilla since I've never had one. I tried a bite. It was basically a hard taco filled with cheese. It was too much cheese for me. Apparently, my husband agreed because he didn't eat them either. Everything other than those quesadillas were fantastic. So this spot is so cute, love the decor inside for sure. My husband ordered the steak burrito dinner and I had pork green Chile. Both were very good. Chips and salsa here is not complimentary which was a bummer. Our server was very efficient and pleasant, made sure to check on us frequently. The house margaritas were bleh however. They tasted like plain mix and over sweet. Value for what we paid would have been okay, but the margs were 11.50 each and totally not worth it. Would go back, just not for drinks! read more

So it was late and our options for food were dwindling down. Most of the restaurants were closing in 49 minutes. We decided to try el corral. We walked in and were quickly seated. The menu was decent. I saw they charge for chips and salsa. Weird to see a Mexican restaurant charge for chips and salsa. Our waitress was super sweet. I wish I would have grabbed her name. She was awesome from the start to the end. I ordered the special which was shrimp enchiladas. I was worried about this dish. Sometimes the seafood at this small establishments can not be of good quality. My baby girl ordered the fideo soup. I guess we all received the soup. The flavor was there but not hot. More of a lukewarm soup. I didn't care for that. I have my daughter my soup. She doesn't care if it is cold, hot or even lukewarm. She will eat anything. The food comes out. I was surprisingly amazed by the rice and enchiladas. They were actually delicious. The shrimps were decently sized and cooked well. The shrimps were plump and not mushy or dry. As for the retried beans, not so good. I didn't care retried beans. In the end, this meal was good. I would come back if I was ever in the area. This place sells itself as a Mexican restaurant. Well, it is only about half Mexican as evidenced by the menu. The food and service were pretty mediocre. The server never came by to ask us if everything was ok I had a chimichanga with shredded beef and something was just lacking. The menu clearly stated that the meals come with either one corn or flour tortilla. There were two of us and we both specified that we wanted a flour tortilla. When we got the bill we found that we had been charged a dollar for each of the two tortillas. We were there visiting from CA last week for the Polar express. unfortunately, this is the Mexican restaurant that we decided to go to. As we walked in, I saw the specials and one of the specials was Carne Asada, i figured how can you go wrong with carne asada so I ordered it. When my food came out the meat looked gray. it was covered in onions to hide the disgusting meat. The cheese on the beans was not even melted the only thing on my plate that was actually edible were the rice and the beans the rest of the food was disgusting. I do not recommend this place. Please go somewhere else. plus as a Mexican restaurant anywhere else they usually give you complementary tortilla chips and salsa not here! You have to order them, we actually ordered some for our table, when they came out, the waitress gave us one basket for a long table. The tortilla chips were clearly bagged cheap tortilla chips. There are lots of restaurants on Route 66 through Williams. El Corral had good reviews and Mexican food sounded right so we made our way there. The interior was nicely decorated and the staff were friendly. You can tell this place is family owned and we were happy to support it. My husband got a chicken chimichanga wet and I got the chile verde plate. Firstly, my husband always judges a Mexican restaurant by the flavor of their refried beans and these were excellent! His food was tasty but my chile verde was excellent. I have only had it this good at one other restaurant. It was flavorful and tender when you started eating it and then hits you with that beautiful spiciness. Delicious. It was a quick meal as we were the last guests left in the restaurant but they took great care of us and didn't make us feel rushed. This was hands down the best Mexican food I have ever eaten in my entire life. We were across the street at a local bar and the bartender recommended this spot to us and let me just tell you - SO glad we went. Thinking back on our favorite meals of the 1,200 mile road trip, El Corral is at the top. The server was so sweet and knowledgeable... she recommended the carnitas tacos. The carnitas tacos were the best tacos I have ever had in my life and trust me, I am quite the sampler of tacos. The margarita was big and so fresh and not too syrupy.
