Pedro, my review has no contradiction. I was with him when he called you and he briefly mentioned that there might be issues with the fuel injector or the battery which could be causing all the engine lights to come on. You said that it couldn't be the fuel injector. You apparently diagnose the car which you had for hours but yet couldn't diagnose that the main problems were actually the battery AND the fuel Injector. Those documents does not prove you actually did those job. YOU ALSO NEVER PROVIDED ANY DOCUMENTS FOR HIM TO SIGN. You can write all the things you apparently did but you did not resolved any issues on the car. The dealership had DETAILED information about the problems in his car and you provided vague information on the receipt. The only person dishonest here is you. read more

I don't normally write yelp reviews but this time I felt really compelled to do so. Today my 1997 Toyota Camry failed to start and I thought it had to do with the alternator or the starter this time since I only recently changed my battery. Since I've gone to Pedro the last 3 times something happened with my car, I knew he'd be able to fix it. I called him and asked if I could have my car towed there for him to fix and he said yes. Got my car towed there and I told him what was happening with my car. He told me a few scenarios that could be causing the issue and then proceeds to diagnose my car right away. Within seconds he determined that it was because of the loose terminal on the negative side of my battery. (Now, this loose terminal had been loose for years and my previous two mechanics attempted to fix it but could not replace it because it was stuck and so they had to come up with alternative solutions (literally one solution was to jam a nail so that the terminal wouldn't come loose)). Pedro went to work on my car right away and I thought surely that this was gonna be a repeat of the past and the terminal wouldn't come off. BUT HOLY SHIT HE GOT IT OFF!!!!! I literally have seen a the buffest young mechanic fail to get that terminal off. Pedro replaced it in like 10 minutes and my car was able to start again without any problem! And because it was so quick, he didn't charge me which honestly after all the stress of car troubles really made my day! I've gone to Pedro for spark plug replacements and an air intake tube replacement and the service and diagnosis was always fast, reliable and most importantly the price is never bullshit! Pedro is also very accommodating, one time he even let me pick up my car after operating hours because I told him I work nights until 8pm. I also appreciate that he takes the time to explain the problem to you and every time I bring my car in, I learn more and more about how my car runs and how cars in general work which honestly is such important info to have! He is truly the best mechanic I've ever had and he takes away any anxiety that comes with bringing your car to a mechanic. One day my Toyota Corolla randomly did not start and had to be towed away, and the tow truck driver recommended that I bring my car to Pedro's. My car was dropped off after hours on Saturday and by Monday morning (they are closed on Sunday), I received a call with a diagnostic (I needed a new starter!) and by 1:30 pm it was ready to be picked up. We had a problem with our tire, stuck lug bolts, that turned out to be an involved repair. They went to a junkyard to find a replacement wheel hub assembly, then replaced it. The mechanic showed me the old one they pulled out. There was a surcharge for the extra labor, but they only told me when I came to pick up the car. Any changes to the quote and proposed work should be agreed upon before hand. What would happen if I didn't agree to pay, with the work already done? Anyway they did a good job and the extra cost was well justified. I would go again. read more

OK so I think this is like my 5th review for Pedro's but I'm sorry I just had to give another update because once again, Pedro saved my butt! I would have written this review weeks ago, but I got the flu, and also I was buried in work, trying to help out with a friend's estate on an extremely tight deadline. Earlier this year, a very dear friend of mine was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and she asked me to help her get her Toyota truck fixed while she was in a nursing care facility. As usual, I took the truck to Pedro, who has fixed this truck many times in the past. But the fact is, this truck is almost 30 years old, and not surprisingly, it needs a little TLC on occasion. Pedro to the rescue! Pedro did some tests, and told me he suspected the problem might be with the car's igniter. As always, Pedro tried to give me lots of tips to help me save the most amount of money possible. He looked up the cost of an igniter online, but soon discovered that this isn't an easy part to get, since it's for a 30 year old truck, and the part isn't made by Toyota anymore. He told me that I do have the option of going to the Pick and Pull, to find the part from one of the cars there. He gave me the address for the place, gave me some tips on how to get the part I was looking for, and took the time to print out a photo of what the part looks like. He even loaned me some tools to try to take the part off, if was able to find it. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find the part, but I really appreciated the fact that he lent me tools for the job. I realized that Pedro really didn't have a lot of time to help me look for the part online, because he's a very busy mechanic who had already gone out of his way to help me, so I knew I'd h ave to steep up my own search for the part online. I was able to find the part online - or at least, I found a part that I THOUGHT was the right part. So I ordered it. But unfortunately, I discovered that it wasn't actually the right part, so I had to order another one. Pedro was very patient, and while I had been waiting for the part(s) to arrive, he helped me to move the truck to the street, into a spot where it was unlikely to be towed or ticketed, and he also helped me to keep an eye on it. He even offered to lend me one of his cars while I was trying to find the right part. Oh by the way, I didn't even mention this other thing... my little 30 year old Honda also had issues during this time, and Pedro actually gave me a ride to my car, where it had died, and helped me to get it started up again And he did this after the shop was supposed to be closed. This is just one of many occasions where Pedro went out of his way, and I am sure was late for dinner, because of me and my car issues. . Anyway, I finally got what appeared to be the right part... but guess what... it wasn't the right part, after all. Now, I realize a lot of this could have been fixed a lot earlier if I would have just taken it to a Toyota dealer that had very specific equipment to tell me exactly what the problem was. Pedro did tell me that was an option for me, because even though he knows a hell of a lot when it comes to car of all types, he is not a Toyota dealer with super expensive TOYOTA diagnostic equipment. But I am super tight with money, and chose to do things the hard way. I can't expect Pedro to have diagnostic equipment for every single year, make and model of car there is that comes to his shop. So it was my own choice to kinda do things the hard (and cheap) way, and I appreciate Pedro's patience with this. In this case, the guy really went above and beyond. Anyway, I did end up having to go to the Toyota dealer to ask them a few questions, and they were helpful, but I still needed to get my car fixed because I was too cheap to pay for a full diagnostic. Again, Pedro took another look at my car, and did his best to diagnose what could be the problem, if it wasn't the igniter that had the problem. In order to do this, he kind of had to jerry rig one of the parts I had already ordered, to do some kind of diagnostic test. Well, once again, Pedro came through for me and was able to determine what the probblem was.... as I turns out, I believe he said it was some kind of an issue with the starter. Pedro totally got the truck up and running!!! I cannot express how grateful I am, to have had Pedro as my mechanic for the last 15 years or so. I NEEDED that truck to work, so I could haul a bunch of my friend's stuff to the recycling center, Goodwill, etc. I made sooooo many trips in that truck. Many people have been telling me to get rid of the truck, saying it's old and kind of an eyesore, and I should just upgrade it already, or donate it to someone who can break it down for parts. NO WAY! Toyota trucks are meant to go 300,000+ miles.So happy there are mechanics like Pedro, who are willing to have patience with cars like these, and keep them running like they should : ). I wanted to respond to the owners update and need to write a 2nd review, since I already used the allowed space in my 1st review -- Yes, they explained to me what service would be performed, but the question is whether all of that was actually performed. The service was supposed to include the coolant service, oil change and a "DETAILED" inspection of the car, based on Mazda's manual. And I paid a price for this accordingly to include this detailed inspection, which was MORE than what an oil change + coolant change + basic inspection that any shop would perform. He claims to have inspected the spark plugs too. My call logs will prove that I got a call from them in less than an hour after I dropped off my car,to tell me that the service was done, and I don't believe this is enough time for them to have finished all of this. I did not "DEMAND" a free inspection of the spark plugs. I asked him politely if he would include it as part of the inspection and he agreed. If you deal with this man personally, you will know he is not some pushover that people can DEMAND things from him and he will do them for FREE. When he called me to provide an estimate for the spark plugs, I asked him if it was really urgent. He IGNORED my question and simply kept telling me the cost. Based on his behavior I decided to not spend any more money at this store and so simply declined. I understand some basics about cars and I know that the coolant levels can change due to air pockets. The picture I put on my 1st review was clicked after I had already opened the lid to let any air pockets out. The original level of the coolant was much lower than what you see in that pic. And I am now putting up another pic of the coolant level after I got it topped off at another shop in the area. I would not trust a shop, with any serious service, which cannot fill the fluids to the correct level and it makes me doubt the rest of the service performed that day. I am just glad I discovered it soon enough and did not keep driving around with low levels of coolant. I did call up Pedro's that sat, but no one answered my call. I then checked Yelp , and it was past the closing time listed on yelp. I am not going to drive to a shop hoping that someone might still be around past the working hours. After I got the coolant topped off at another shop, there was no reason for me to contact them. It is their right to demand full payment before releasing my car. I had 50% of the cash on me which I was going to pay immediately and needed to get the rest from an ATM. There is something called customer service. The bank that I have an account with was at least a 15 min walk away. The least he could do is offer to drive with me to the ATM / bank to get the cash. When I left his shop to get the money and when I got back with the money, he and at least 1 other mechanic at his shop were completely free and not working on cars and so it wasn't like his shop was super busy. Telling someone that you do not trust them to make the full payment is no way to retain business. I don't know what he means by me not budging from his office. I was in his office for a minute before he rudely stated that he does not trust me to come back with the money and I immediately went out to get the money. I was upset, because, as soon as I reached his shop to pick up my car, instead of first briefing me about the service, which has been the case with all my previous car services, this guy directly started demanding payment and wanted me out of there and on top of it he accused me of trying to cheat him. I hope people learn from my experience and stay away from this shop if you want good honest service. P.S. - Please also read Mark's review from April 2018. P.S. - I have said everything I needed to. I did not pay $200 to then run to another shop to have the service completed and for such rude service. I will leave it to the people to decide who they think was reasonable / unreasonable, honest / dishonest in this whole encounter and whether they would trust this auto shop with their car. read more

Mechanic.....or savior! I'd argue Pedro's is the 911 call you'll need for your car. A car's ER doctor, perhaps? Our car as well as a friend's were given the death sentence by other local long-time mechanics. After being told by a local mechanic we couldn't pass smog and it wasn't worth bothering, quoting a huge estimate to bring the car back, we gave up. The car was parked outside of our home awaiting the growing weeds. Then one day we took it to Pedro's. A few bucks of credit card charges later that old car was back. The best visibility of any of our cars, a super run-around and the perfect car to run to the dumps with, or carry particularly large, smelly or otherwise 'don't put that in my car!' items! This sturdy little '95 Corolla was revived by Pedro & team to outlive the pandemic and the years it has spent on the road. Poo poo your naysaying doomsday-seeing mechanic and you 'better call Pedro!' (okay, not as good of a ring, but still true!) Instead how about 'Hey bro, your car is failing? Better call Pedro!' If your mechanic gives you bad news, give Pedro a call. The battery and the fuel injector were in critical condition and you didn't change either one. I came in there and said I believe the problem is the fuel injector and/or the battery that was causing the engine light along with the other lights to come on. How is it that I knew what the problem was while you spent "4hrs" with the car and misdiagnosed it. About 50 miles into driving the car all lights came back on and not long after that it went into limp mode. Show me the document I signed that authorized you to diagnose my car and charge me without informing me what the repairs were. You told me to leave it with you and you would take a look. I didn't sign a thing. Regardless a good dealership would inform the customer of the cost before engaging in the work. Also, how dare you accuse us of lying. When the lights came on again we realized we were going to have to figure out the problem ourselves. First we change the battery which seemed to work for a few days. That's when I wrote my initial review. Lights then came back on so then a bit later I took it into another place and they diagnosed it as the injectors. That's when my girlfriend wrote her review. My 1994 GMC K1500 had a problem with the fuel line, pump, and filter. Pedro took my truck in with no appt or reservation and had it back to me within 24hours. The pricing was hundreds of dollars lower than some of the estimates I read online and he also went through the motion of explaining what exactly went wrong and why it happened. I had a tire air pressure sign up on the dashboard, and even without looking at the car, the old gentleman parroted "Forty dollars, forty dollars for tire air," to me. It is literally extortion. Forty dollars for tire air? Any gullible deep pocket appears vey much welcome to this place. Further, the issue was not air loss. This gentleman just prematurely jumped to the conclusion based on my statement that the sign was up. I do not trust any self-claimed expert who does not examine an issue at all prior to giving out her diagnosis to a customer. I believe at least some Yelp reviews must have strongly warned potential customers to avoid this place for the reasons of possible extortion and lack of professionalism. I just saw the response from Pedro's, and it makes me to emphasize again that what was exactly said was "Forty dollars for tire air." Additionally, no professional gives an estimate without checking out the issue. I should have noticed that something was wrong about this place that has such a high rating but with embarrassingly few reviews for a thirty-year-old business. WOW, Pedro and his mechanics are fantastic. My friends old car broke down recently and he happened to pull in to Pedro's shop at the Shell station. Very few times you run into people like Pedro, he is knowledgeable and certified on just about any car on the road today. He was able to fix my buddy's Model A Ford quickly, he quickly and methodically went through the car and found the problem knowing we had time constraints. First off, I rarely write reviews. However, because this was by far the best experience I have had with any auto service, I felt compelled to leave a review! I called Pedro's late evening, after the shop had closed, and he picked up. He immediately assessed the issue, even after the stated open hours, so I could make it to work okay the next morning. He was kind, honest, thorough and genuinely cared about making sure the issue with my car was taken care of well. It turned out to be a battery issue and not an alternator issue (thank goodness). He went above and beyond to make sure the issue was resolved that evening, so I could drive to work the next day. What a relief that I stumbled upon a great mechanic shop! Pedro will do right by you. I went to one mechanic, and they said they couldn't handle the repairs - I should go to a dealership. The dealership said I needed to pay $10,000 for a new battery. This is an update on my previous review. First of all I really wish to thank the Bureau of Auto Repair for their support and laborious investigation of my complaint back in September. Despite the mediation of BAR, Pedro was only willing to refund 2/3 of the amount I requested, which was far from enough to re-do all the repair that he promised but failed to carry out. I subsequently took my car to a responsible body shop for a checkup. Upon close examination of each part that Pedro claimed to replace on the invoice, I was informed by the body shop owner - with photos - that Pedro falsified many items on his invoice: he charged me for installing "rebuilt A/T radiator", ""rebuilt coolant radiator", "rebuilt turbo radiator", "used shroud and fan", etc., but didn't replace the original parts, or replaced with broken, crap pieces which looked like taken out of garbage cans. Furthermore, Pedro charged $175/hour labor rate for his poor work (or work never carried out) compared with the professional body shop owner who only charged $98 per hour. Worst of all, he deliberately put the date when he started repairing my car on the invoice, while kept saying he was busy and waited till the last day (17 days later) to show me the invoice and ask me to sign. Both the body shop owner and I are angry beyond words at discovering all the crooked behaviors of Pedro's Auto Clinic. It shocked me how a long-time local business with predominantly five-star reviews cunningly swindles customers and treats their cars like trash. While I enjoy writing positive reviews to empower small businesses, I feel compelled to share this horrible experience. I truly don't believe this clinic's deceptive business practices should be enabled or further tolerated by the community. read more

I took my car to many mechanics over the past 3 years for a break problem. I put money into it, and it didn't fix the problem. When I took it to Pedro, he was super diligent, totally heard what I was saying, test drove it and knew what I was saying, and went through several steps past the diagnostics of previous mechanics to really find the problem. On top of that, he is very fair on price and very clear at explaining both what is wrong and what the costs are. When the repair took more time than expected he even gave me a break on labor cost as he felt there was some 'learning needed' on his part for the particular hardware that was having trouble. Not only is Pedro humble and straight forward, he is also one of the most experienced and knowledgable mechanics I've ever met. I wasn't even in for breaks, I just asked him to look at it and explained the situation. I was in for a transmission issue. Now my car is the best its been since I drove it off the lot 100,000 miles ago. The transmission is smooth and responsive, the breaks are even and secure. I'm so happy! Thanks Pedro! read more

I brought my 2002 Porsche Boxster S for a leak in the cooling system which turned out to be a water pump. Pedro and his guys change the water pump along with a couple of other recommendations, heater houses, radiator hose and a serpentine belt in which he only charged me for the parts being that he had removed the old ones to get to the water pump. This mechanical workshop is the worst place where you can take your vehicle, first the attention of the owner is totally false, he locks you in a small office, very dirty by the way, and he talks to you for more than half an hour explaining to you. the possible problems that your vehicle has, when it can only be a simple problem. The repair is too expensive, compared to other workshops and it assures you that it gives a guarantee, but surprise... if your vehicle fails after a few days, it locks you up in that dirty office again and washes its hands of saying that. the problem is due to another situation, and that it is another extra job... and if you realize and check your engine you see that the parts they used are used oh they are not original but they charge you as new... this place cheats the people, that's why you wonder if it's in a very busy place because it has few customers, most of the old cars that are parked outside belong to that Mr. Pedro, who offers it while he ruins your vehicle and scams you... be very careful, Better a certified workshop. read more

Pedro is more than just a mechanic. He is a true automotive healer, and an artisan of very high caliber. He is also a great leader, who uses the knowledge and skills of his whole team - and outside expertise too, if needed -- to restore cars to wellness. My sister's truck (high-drama old Toyota that had been practically driven to the ground) had a complex electrical problem that no one could figure out. The wiring was old and had been jerry-rigged by others along the way, so it is safe to say there was more than one mysterious problem at hand. It had also been through a lot, and sort of needed an exorcist. Pedro to the rescue! The problems did not phase him. He methodically checked everything, ordered giant schematics with extra detail, consulted a special wizard in these matters, and restored the old truck to amazing running condition. This is one of many times he has helped my family with complicated car matters. He is brilliant, warm, and empowering (as a female, I really appreciate a good mechanic who takes the time to explain everything in terms I understand, without ever talking down to me or expecting blind acquiescence), and tells fascinating stories of Peru and more, if you catch him when he has time to tell him. And he really is a healer. Like, he has many medicinal herbs and foods growing near the shop, and has amazing knowledge of how to use them all for health. He applies the same approach to cars: wellness, thoughtful care, meticulous problem solving. One thing I will say: I noticed that Pedro has very little interest in working with rude and pushy customers. He has a busy operation, and still takes time to give every customer and their cars the attention they need. He gives care and respect, and expects it in return. Do not refer your rude relative who will try to demand every freebie on the planet, or who will try to tell the mechanic how to do his job cheaply. It will not go well. Pedro does not overcharge, and he gives fair advance choices for service options, but he also needs to be respected as an artisan. I guarantee that what you will pay is more than fair, and done right, so that your car will keep going strong for a long time. If every mechanic was as good as Pedro, there would be a lot more cars kept out of junkyards.
