His non-businesslike treatment of me and over pricing was the problem. I've been a customer here for over 10 years. The last time I came in, I was overcharged for labor. I will need to more cautious next time. BEFORE you take your car to this repair shop, Shoreline Auto Care, make sure you know HOW MUCH the part and the labor are supposed to cost. The problem is you will pay about $120 or more just for the diagnostic. But once you know what the problem is, you need to look up the estimate on this or another website: https://RepairPal.com/estimator/ When given the Estimate to look over, be sure to ask the Service Agent (Robert) These Questions... 1. What is the part Make and Model Number? 2. How much does the part cost? 3. How much is your hourly labor rate? Have him put this on the estimate. 4. It is not surprising that this busy joint is getting great reviews despite the fact that it is located in a potentially cramped-up strip where there's a daily occurrence of road rage .... But wait ! I think this Auto Mechanic is here for a reason. It's ironic but although Robert and his team specializes in fixing the internal mechs of a vehicle, this dude can refer you and WILL help you get your ride issues straightened out. Forewarning : If you are the kind of person who personally dislikes being around people that throw F-Bombs, then maybe you need to bring your noise-reducing headphone, earphones , earwax air buds... Heh ! One nice spring day in 2019, I parked in a spot which was at the edge of the curb, next to an white pick-up truck who was driven by the owner of the pool store / shop right next to Shoreline Auto. I park like a race car driver (according to people who has seen me back in...it's just something I am used to). A few minutes, not even ever 10, a gentleman from the upholstery shop, also in the same strip (DO NOT GET YOUR FURNITURE reupholstered here unless you have no other choice !), came to me and told me that he thinks someone hit my car. Fast-forward to the real review (I tend to get distracted when I have all these shops all over the place really close to the establishment I am writing a review for LOL). There are cameras all around this strip, mind you. With the help of the building / strip owner, we were able to track down that it was that obnoxious owner of the pool shop that hit my car and ran... ...BUT not for long (what a JAss!). Thank You, baby Jesus for the cameras and that Shoreline Auto was nearby. I immediately brought my car to Robert's attention and he gave me a rough estimate of how much it will cost. He was very helpful and straight-to-the-point (with F-Bombs in between). No beating around the bush (although I must say, Robert looks like he's ready to beat up things other than bushes if you mess with him). He is a good guy, someone you can trust will get things done for you. In an irony, I was referred to go to him right away by the 2 people who manage the near by upholstery shop (DO NOT GET THESE 2 knuckleheads near your $$$). Robert seems to have a really great relationship with the people around the strip - count in the elderly man that owns Baskin' Robbins and the grumpy and rude elderly man at the upholstery shop. He gets along with everyone, I reckon. Robert had me leave my precious wounded car overnight and he said it will be fixed by Thursday (I left it at the end of the day on a Tuesday the same week). Wham! Bam! Thank you ma'am and there was my car on the promised day, sitting under the tree, bird poop and all BUT my awful scratch and dent marks are a thing of history and will never even give anyone a f******* clue that it once was victimized by a person who thought the cameras didn't work. I paid Robert with cash, easy peasy- the culprit who I reported to the police agreed to pay for the damage NO APOLOGIES, mind you. Another unintended adventure that I would beg to skip next time. However ! You're in good hands with Robert and his team at Shoreline. For the price that that DA (dumb ass) paid, I am sure I saved his car insurance from getting "dinged". Like I said, the majority of merchants in that same strip seem to be common clientele of this Auto Shop. It's very accessible . Dead batteries ? Oil change ? Smog-a-roo, check engine light , busted light. Just be extra careful when parking and driving in to the location, a lot of people get frustrated with parking especially early in the day that you might get yet a second reason you're bringing your beloved vehicle to Shoreline Auto. Shoreline Auto was a delight (again, despite the horrendous experience of being hit by the Sterling Pool owner and him running away...}. Robert is an OG that knows exactly what he is doing. Did I mention about the upholstery shop in the same strip ? Stay away from that place - they will rip you off. Now, THAT, ladies and gentlemen is the long of the short. :P read more

Update! Back again with another car since I had a great experience the first time. Failed the smog test on my 98 Integra. The numbers that had been getting higher got REALLY high finally. I dropped by with my smog papers and everything was diagnosed and done no problem. The update smog check results tell you all you need to know. Offending numbers were almost down to nothing compared how they were before. They also took care of the timing which was off after a new distributor had been put in elsewhere. read more

Thank you Robert and Shoreline Auto Care! On Saturday, my old 1993 Tercel broke down in Mountain View. The car suddenly would not start. I knew that battery, wires and alternator were all working properly, so that left the starter as the most likely problem. I called AAA and was advised that it would take 90 minutes for a tow truck. This seemed like a long wait, given that it was a sunny Saturday .. but I had little choice. My wife arrived shortly before I expected the truck ... and then we waited almost another 90 minutes .. close to 3 hours!! It totally messed up our plans for the day. The driver was courteous, and tried to start the car, but he had no success. With all the time to wait, I looked on Yelp for a well rated repair shop, open, within 5 miles of my location. (It would have cost me $100 out of pocket to get the car towed 14 miles to my regular mechanic in San Jose.) I came across Shoreline .. just a short distance from where I was, open, with very loyal customers, and told the driver to bring the car there. I met Robert, and he quickly got things going. (Had the tow truck gotten to me earlier, he probably would have been able to fix the car that day.) Monday morning, I got an early call from him, going over what I needed, and what he recommended. I knew that his price was very fair .. and gave him the go ahead. In the afternoon, he let me know that he was done. When I went to pick up the car, I asked if he could give me a discount, and he did .. making for a great deal. The car is starting fine, and I feel very good about choosing Shoreline. At the end of August, 2017 I was leaving Palo Alto (and California) for a last-minute job offer in southern Texas. I had not been driving my 1995 Honda Accord for around two years, except for basically keeping the battery charged. And so, understandably I wanted to have it checked out before the trip. Serendipitously, I noticed Shoreline Auto Care and asked the chief mechanic, Robert, if he could take a look at it on short order. He agreed, and within an hour he called back to report a slight leak in the radiator. It took him and his crew an additional three hours to replace the radiator - also not a trivial task on an older car! I showed up the following day, and when he provided some additional tips on the trip. He also explained how I should yet deal with the smog check and re-registration of the Honda (hint: it involved the AAA office next door, which also has a fully functional DMV for AAA members). Taking care of those issues on such short order will make it possible to already depart tomorrow for TX! Summarizing: Robert and his staff went far above the minimal level. I received truly exceptional service at Shoreline Auto Care recently. Dropped by to see if they could fix the brake lights on my truck to remedy a fix-it ticket I got couple of days prior. I was not sure if it was electrical or bad bulbs, since both lights were out, and most people were telling me it was probably electrical. It was last minute and towards the end of the work day, but the owner was kind enough to help me anyway, and I still had a quick friendly professional service, what's more, at a fair price - I was in and out in 15 minutes with my issue fixed, where it would have taken an hour at least at any other location, if they would have seen me at all. I just had my first experience with Shoreline Auto Care because my check engine light had recently come on. The shop is located close to my home but I never really noticed it before. The charge he quoted to run a diagnostic is about HALF what my Toyota dealer charges AND he was able to help me right away. In the end he reset the computer and said if the light didn't come back on it might well have been a glitch. If it did come on again, he told me I should get it serviced as soon as possible. While he was doing the test we joked about 80s music --which was playing on my radio when he started the engine. Really personable guy. And then he didn't even charge me for the diagnostic! I am waiting to see if the light comes back on but if it does, I will DEFINITELY take it there for the repair. And my other car as well. Wish I had found this place sooner!!!! read more

Me: ummmm..my son was able to take it out earlier.. Guy: What??? Me: (gave a signal to my son)..Carlos, show this guy how to do it. Carlos: (showed taking out the headlight base (the thing that holds the bulb) Guy: (looked at me) and put back base. Me: So how much? Guy: 20 dollars Me: Fine..freaking highway robbery @@ Guy: asked the Mechanic to get screw driver... Guy (put latex gloves on)(assisted Mechanic take old bulb out and popped in new bulb).. Guy (closed hood) Me: here (gave 20 dollars cash) Me: (whispered "freaking crook") and started backing out my vehicle. Guy: Where are you going? Me: I'm trying to get out of here. Guy: (started guiding me) Guy: You drive like a Chinese person and you're not even Chinese. Me: Excuse me, but I am part Chinese...(thinking what a douchebag and I drove away) PS. As a woman, I am hyper-sensitive when it comes to auto care. I usually get a second opinion when the shop tells me anything needs to get replaced or repaired. These guys are amazing. I decided to replace my engine coil and VANOS solenoid on my BMW by myself, but I needed a shop to reset my check engine light. I called at least 5 places on Saturday. This was the only shop open other than BMW mountain view, which wanted $150 for a 2 min job. Normally 3rd party shops charge $50-$100. These guys did it for free. I asked rob why they have so many five stars reviews and he just said, "we fix cars." We spent a few minutes talking about BMWs and it was clear these guys are experts and know the cars they fix. I see some high and some low reviews here. I went here for the first time today to get my brakes done on short notice, and my experience was totally positive. Robert gave me a better price than other places I called, and in talking with him he knows cars, he is a CAR GUY. He did the brakes on my Corvette C5 in the time promised, called me when it was ready, and didn't try to upsell me to other repairs like most shops. So I started writing this review a while ago and forgot to post it. So here it is. This is one of the best neighborhood auto shops I've ever come across. I didnt want to go to a chain and wanted to support a local business in my neighborhood and was NOT disappointed. Prior to leaving on a long trip i was worried about the check engine light going off so I stopped by to see if they could help me. The owner said they are booked for the day and that he'd have to take me another day but he can at least check it really quick. It turned out that I had no oil in my car and that was setting off the check engine light. The guys were really caring and helpful and filled my oil reserve and fixed the issue really quickly and didn't charge me for it as it was a simple fix for them but it was a major kindness for me!!! The owner Robert is very personable and helpful and didn't try to up sell me like the auto shops in the past. Another time he replaced my headlamp and quickly told me why the lights were fogging up. I appreciate the promptness and honesty. It was also the cheapest headlight replacement to date. I will certainly go here for all my automotive needs from now on. It's rare to find honest and honorable mechanics and I am so glad that I found this shop and that they are close to my house! I know I have some major maintenance to do on my car (as none bad been done since I bought it ) and I know it'll cost me several hundred probably but I feel very good knowing that I can trust these guys and they won't up sell me or feed me a bunch of bull about what needs to be done. We've been going to this shop for many years, back when it was Precision Tune, and then when they moved to Old Middlefield, and now back to the original location under their current name -- the people are still the same. Robert is up front and honest, and if you have an old car (like I did) he'll do his best to re-use parts, or get replacement used parts to save cost. Once I had a broken electric window mechanism. Robert had his guys modify a manual mechanism from a junkyard, to work with electric. He made more money on labor and I paid less money than I would have for a new electric mechanism. They replaced the front wheel bearings and the front disc rotors and brake pads on my 2000 Ford Taurus. I was very happy with their work and the results.
