I've been taking my cars to Allied for about a decade. They've always been reliable, with fair prices and excellent communication. Can't really ask for much more than that. My main experience has been with Matt who is outstanding and I recently chatted with who I think is Brian (who I assume is the owner). If so, I understand why the organization is so well run -- he's knowledgeable and caring. I've taken my car in for general servicing and for an "emergency" battery replacement. The process is seamless. They give you a verbal estimate based on the initial assessment. Some time later you get a txt message (or email) with any changes based on a more detailed analysis. This allows you to approve any extra charges. You can also get updates through this system if things are taking longer than expected. If you need to drop off before 8am opening, there's a dropbox for your car keys. If you can't get there before they close at 5pm, they'll keep it overnight for you. Unless there's a compelling reason to take it to the dealer, I recommend Allied. read more

I took my Honda Civic for an A123 service and on dropping the car off just after 8a, I was informed that the A service would run around $225 which I thought was fair and reasonable. The tires had just been replaced so they did not have to be rotated. After about 15 minutes when I got the text to approve the amount it was $732.61 which was different from the $225 quoted when I dropped of the car. About 30 minutes later I got a text to for additional charges for the brake fluid service $236.04 and replacement of the drive belt $204.43. Since I live literally a 10 min walk from the shop, I thought it might be a good idea to go down and speak in person to the service advisor. It seemed from my initial discussion with the service advisor that these items needed to be changed. I asked him if the repair for the 2 items was critical, and after he took a second look and reviewed the 2 items with the technician, he informed me that these could certainly wait and be addressed at the next service. Given that we were not going to do the additional 2 items, he said the car service was done and just needed to be drive tested. He also commented that the car was maintained well and in good condition. I would had far less anxiety and probably professional admiration if the identified additional 2 items were communicated as next service items from the start, rather than try to create a fear atmosphere to change them. Given that the service was done in less than an hour, the labor cost of $530.34 equating to the time spent on the vehicle seemed disproportionately very high. The $193.27 cost of the parts were detail and inline with the norm. Unfortunately the invoice does not give a labor charge per hour and also does not give an itemized break down of the time spent and labor cost for each item. When I spoke with the owner, he seemed upset that I was questioning the rationale for the high labor cost. He waffled on a good 10 minutes trying to justify the cost saying that he knew all the other shops in the area and their charges were the same. He kept saying his shop was hi tech, to which I responded that it probably then took even less time and all the more reason for him to fix price his service. I would not have an issue if it was stated as fixed price. He could not give me a sensible explanation for the $530.34 labor charge for less than an hours work. Finally when backed into a corner he started to be creative and said he might have used 2 or 3 technicians for the service, and when I pushed him to tell me if it was 2 or 3 from his records, he could not provide me with an answer. It is sad and in my opinion unprofessional that that this repair shop does not believe in transparency and does not itemize and breakdown the labor component for the work performed, especially when their invoice for the A123 service is not quoted or reflected as a fixed price. Clearly the computed generated charged cost for labor does not reflect and equate to the actual labour that the technician spent on the service. For the performance of technical service itself, let me add that I have every confidence that the shop did a detail check as deemed required for the service and diligently performed the necessary service. read more

When looking for a local mechanic for my aging parents, I stopped by Allied for an advertized oil change. I thought this standard service would be a good indicator of the business. I immediatly was put off when I mention thier own advert and was told I would have to wait for two weeks to get "that" price. That price? you mean the price advertized? The was no fine print, "Must wait two week prior to service." He acted disgusted with me for bring in his own flyer. I am glad I stopped by to learn how horrible the service is here. I would never trust the owner to take care of my parents without my presence. If they do not act honorably with thier own programs, how can I trust them in other instances? I posted here because his behavior was so insulting. Trust is the most important thing. They did not earn mine and I will seek a more honorable business. read more

Excellent job diagnosing & fixing the air conditioner for my E class Mercedes. In & out in a day as promised (afternoon was nice to avoid peak rush hour) & we live nearby. Did courtesy inspection. They were super kind and friendly on the phone, understanding when I met with them, gave me a decent estimate for what it would cost, and then did a complimentary "flashlight" inspection and topped off my coolant, on top of the service I asked of them. I took my 1997 Mercedes C230C into Allied Auto Works as my blinkers stopped working. I decided to have my car inspected, which they did and gave me a detailed report. I phoned first and asked if someone could bring me back after I dropped my car off and they assured they would be able to accommodate me. I received a call when my car was ready to be picked up and the same young man came and picked me up and took me to Allied Auto. They had to order the Turn Signal from Mercedes and they told me they would phone me when it came in. I was able to watch the man install the new Turn Signal and I was definitely impressed with his ability to save all the very small screws and then he took the old device out and compared it to the new one and they were exactly the same. I've brought cars here for years (and my parents have for decades before me)-- I've always known they are a premium price option but have been willing to pay it because I thought they were trustworthy. A week ago I dropped off a 17 year old car that had an issue-- they diagnosed a couple separate things and the ~ $4k repair quote was right on the cusp of what I was willing to put into a 17 year old car (and we discussed this in detail). i decided to move forward and they ordered parts. Fast forward a week-- this morning they called and said there was a mistake in one line item of their quote-- they estimated $1k-$2k for a given repair, and whoops, it would actually be $3k-$4k. They were unwilling to honor their initial estimate, so I cancelled this line item. And now I've sunk $2,800 into partially repairing an old car because Allied gave me a bad quote on what it would actually cost to do all the repairs. When I told Roberto how frustrated I was, his response was basically "oh well"-- I'm not sure what angers me more, the inaccurate quote or the complete apathy around the fact that I made a purchase decision that cost me thousands of dollars based on that inaccurate quote and it was wrong. read more

I am so happy that I found this place because after having numerous mechanics in the past, I know this one is the right one for me. They are able to work on my vehicle within the same day. After always taking my cars to the dealers for service, I started taking my cars to Allied a couple of years ago. They're quick with quotes and returning phone calls and have fair prices. What's prompted a review though was the awesome service I received today I hit a garbage container with the passenger side mirror - I know, don't judge. Drove my car over to Allied to get a quote for fixing it as the 'back piece' of the mirror had popped out and wasn't going back in again. The young man there - sorry I didn't get your name! - spent some minutes popping both panels out, checking things over and then managed to pop the panels back in. Such a relief to me that there was no permanent damage. He refused to take any payment for his time and effort. What?! It's an XK8 and a less scrupulous auto place may have taken the opportunity to 'fix' the issue and charge me a couple of hundred bucks. And I'd have paid it not knowing any better. I have a Toyota Sienna & a oil hose sprung a link, a know weak link, which dumped oil all over the highway. Had my van towed to Allied for the repair. Upon pickup, my car billowed white noxious smoke. They said they tried to clean up the engine compartment but that's completely untrue - oil drops everywhere & not a single clean spot or rag mark. I have 2 small kids & on the drive home, the interior of the van filled with the smell of burning oil & gave us all terrible headaches. To boot, they didn't even wash the back window which had oil blown all over it so i couldn't even see while driving home. When I got home frustrated, angry & with a headache - the 150k mile service I had them perform while it was there for $380 was mainly just an inspection & seems like it should have been more like $200 according to online reports. These guys have/had good reviews, that's why I went here - that's also why I'm writing this review. If you decide to use them, i hope you have better luck than me. read more

HOLY COW! First let me say, I have Matt and his team do all of my car repairs, oil changes, mileage maintenance etc. because they are just that great at what they do! So, for my latest story..... I pull in on a Friday at 2:22PM....Matt can hear me coming as my car has decided to SQUEAL as loud as it possibly can all the way from downtown Los Altos. I swear people rolled up their windows when I was near them. As we joke about "they heard my car coming" they are already putting a plan together for diagnostics etc. This amazing team gets it figured out, ORDERS a part (almost at the daily order cut off) and tells me they will get to work on it. I walk home, do a few things for my job and at 4:15PMI get a call that the car is ready. I walk back up to the shop and my car is ready and Matt has me rolling again at 4:25PM. This is beyond amazing customer service! They are incredible and I can not recommend them enough! read more

Love these guys! I work right down the street, and went here with my old car ('05 Honda Accord) when it had a broken headlight... they fixed the headlight quickly and for only the cost of a new bulb, then swapped it for me a few months later when it shorted again. Now I'm driving an '02 BMW 325i, and once again, Allied has saved me time and money! The cigarette lighter/adapter was broken, and another shop wanted to charge $85 + parts to fix it... took it to Allied instead, where they fixed it at NO cost when they found an extra fuse in the car. Can't beat that kind of service, so I will be taking my Bimmer to them in the future. Matter of fact, I will be making an appointment soon for a diagnostic & tune-up. read more
