I met with STEVE at the business because my van would not start. Steve found that my battery terminal was loose. He tightened it, and told me NO CHARGE. My son's car broke down in Cupertino and I live three counties away. There was smoke bellowing from the engine compartment. I looked at various reviews on Yelp and decided to try Cupertino Auto Tech. My son had his car towed there and I anxiously spoke to Steve on the phone about our situation. Given how far away I was and that my son was not too familiar with cars, Steve could have "found" something wrong and charged us and I would have paid. However he inspected the car and called me saying he could find nothing wrong. We wracked our brains about what could have caused the smoke. I told Steve we just put on new brakes and my son had gone down a steep grade before the car started smoking. Steve realized it must have been the new brakes overheating and smoking which made a lot of sense. Steve put the car back on the rack and inspected the brakes which looked fine. So after all this, I had to insist Steve to accept payment for his time. The posts you will read on Yelp about Steve being honest are on the mark. Steve just scammed me to the tune of $3000. I also see that my previous review didn't post, which I find curious. Here's the deal: I had a PT Cruiser that was overheating. Steave "fixed" it on 3 different occasions over a 4 week period. When it broke down once more, he told me he was done, and that he couldn't repair it. What I now know is that he masked the problem rather fixing it. What would likely have been an expensive but manageable repair now requires replacing the head cylinder because of steps he took to make it look like the car was fixed when it wasn't. The thermometer was installed incorrectly. My temperature gauge had been disabled. And a sealant had been added to the coolant to make the car look like it was running normal when it was actually overheating. A competent mechanic is now working on the car to undo the damage Cupertino Auto Tech did. read more

I was visiting my g/f in the Cupertino area and decided to take my car in for a 105k schedule maintenance (I have a 2000 Accord Coupe V6). Called up some of the places that received rave reviews on yelp, but they were quoting me prices MANY times more than what Steve quoted me. Get this, the actual price I paid was actually LESS than the quote!!! My car was ready in the time he said it would be ready. Unlike some of the other places where they wash your car, or even give you a free loaner car, this place does what it claims without all the fluff. My eclipse was stalling a lot. I showed it to two mechanics, they changed couple of things, but it didn't resolve the problem. So, I searched on yelp for the auto repair guys near my office. I found steve's repair shop near by and thought of showing car to him. He looked at the car and told me that it does not look like a big problem to him. I said If you can find it and repair it, then go ahead, but i already showed to two guys and they can't resolve it. Then he checked for an hour and then called me back with the solution. Just came from there Said it'd take 30 min to get to my car, so I waited till the Thai restaurant opened and waited there and ordered something also. I needed my headlight from my passenger side fixed. The wiring and also the bulb. Called me up saying what the price would be($40) it'd take 30 min and to also inspect my struts Called me maybe 45 min later saying my car is finished. My car was having trouble starting, idling low, and occasionally stalling. Cupertino Auto Tech quickly diagnosed this as a failing idle air control valve, common on Japanese cars at 100,000+ miles. What's inside is a very competent and knowledgeable crew led by a very honest man. Over and over Steve has saved me a tremendous amount of money by giving an honest evaluation compared to the dealers inflated issues and price. I once told him all four breaks needed to be replaced, the dealer recommended. He could have easily done all four and I would have been none the wiser. But he said, "only the front breaks needed replacement. The rear breaks have a lot left on them." I can't tell you how much I appreciate that honest evaluation. There are many stories like that here. And I've never had to go back because of bad work. So, yes, the place looks run down, but that doesn't keep me from going back again and again. read more

Found them on Yelp and gave them a call, $165 for front brake pad change. Other places I called quoted me $225. Guy on the phone said I could bring it in the next day and have it out in a couple of hours. Next day, took my car to the shop. Took them less than 5 minutes to take off the front tires and inspect the brakes. Told me my rotors were done for, and I took a look for myself and, why, yes they were! They weren't trying to make me pay for something I didn't need! I relaxed a bit. He came back with the final quote, $321 for brake pads and rotors! Wow, that's cheap! I asked him to throw in an oil change for $340 total, done deal. Someone even dropped me off at home and picked me up when the car was ready (granted, I only live a mile or two away). The best experience with an auto mechanic I've ever had. I'm definitely coming back when my car runs into issues again. read more

I took my 2001 dodge to the dealer and they wanted to charge me some insane some odd hundreds of dollars. ummmmm-nuoh! My friend introduced me to Steve. I took my car to him. He assessed the issue, told me how long it'd take, did what he'd said when he said. AND only charged me a quarter of what "the dealer" wanted. A year later...I need his services again. I'll give them a star for having the professionalism to refund my money. But that's it. The word of the day here is "incompetence." My car was in 4 times for the same problem over a three-week period: overheating. I was told that the radiator needed replacing. OK. We replaced the radiator. On my drive home to Los Gatos, the car overheated, so I turned around and brought it back to the garage, smoke billowing out from under the hood. I was told the fan was bad. They didn't notice that it was only working in idle, not when driving. OK. We replaced the fan. One week later, trusting in the repairs, I was scheduled to drive to Los Angeles. At mile 124, the temperature once again went through the roof, the car began belching white smoke from burning engine coolant. This time, I was stranded in King City, 124 miles from home. How do I know it was 124 miles? Because I'm a AAA member with 100 miles of towing. And at $6/mile over that mark, trust me, you remember. I was told the temperature gauge was the culprit. OK. We replaced the temperature gauge. So what happens yesterday when I have to drive to Calistoga? Of course. It overheats. I pull off to the side of the road, and have to call again for a tow to bring me down from Calistoga. Another 120-mile tow. And when I show up this morning to figure out what was wrong, I am told that there is nothing wrong with my car, that there is no leak despite my sitting there watching coolant pour out of my engine, and the tow truck driver observing the same, and that he's done working on the car. He had done a pressure check and found that there was no leak, so therefore I'm lying. The end result is now I have a car that overheats, a mechanic who refuses to fix it, and yet another lost day trying to find someone to fix what he refuses to. read more

I bought the transmission fluid myself (needed a specific brand); the price for the oil change (including oil and filter) and transmission fluid change cost somewhere around $45!
