I have a Jeep model year 2000. OK 26 years old, but only 65K miles on it. It needed a water pump. Some shops (who will remain nameless) would not touch it due to its age. I drove into JP at 3PM, they looked at the situation, and ordered the pump! The job was done before noon the NEXT day! Incredible. A week later I wanted the fuel filter/regulator replaced. Took the Jeep to JP circa 10 AM, the part was ordered, replaced, and the job was done by 1PM ! The prices were competitive, the service and integrity outstanding. This is a review for their scheduling process, not their service. I called the other day to ask if I could make an appointment as a first-time customer. They said "we don't do appointments, it's first-come first-served." We chatted a bit about the issue. So imagine my frustration when today I woke up early to bring my car in at 8am when they opened, only to find out upon arrival... that they don't do European cars. The check engine light on my Jeep Grand Cherokee turned on. I checked the code and knew it was something in the "Evaporative Emissions System" so wasn't expecting a big repair bill and they delivered. Brought it in, they diagnosed the problem quickly, fixed it and all at a reasonable price. No upsells or nonsense. While I was waiting to pay, the customer in front of me was an elderly woman. She apparently was having some issue with her key fob. Turned out the battery in the fob was dead. They only charged her for a new battery for the fob. Very impressed! read more

John has kept my wife's 26 year old Lexus running perfectly! Even more important, he has avoided pending break downs and saved us thousands of dollars in unneeded repairs recommend by the dealer. On one occasion the car would not start. The dealer suggested replacing the ignition switch for $450, john suggested trying the second key ....it worked. Recently when a service light illuminated he could have replaced a control computer (over $1,000) but instead suggested it was a false signal, reset the warning light and told us to test drive it. I've been using JP Automotive since I was a teenager with a hooptie. And what I like most is I always get honest answers about servicing my vehicles need. One time I was in need of a new clutch, and I was referred to a boutique place that could do the job at a wonderful price. Since Covid, I know business has been slow, and so instead of going to a chain for my basic oil change and smog check, I decided to support my local automotive. I called an hour before closing, and was so happy to get in and out within less than 30 minutes. John is great, he's personable and has great honest feedback. My parents have gone to him for years, so before taking my car in a long trip I decided to get an oil change, check the breaks and just get an overall wellness check. He was great, gave me good insight that driving the grapevine I should downshift rather than ride the breaks (save a rotor and the breaks) and that I needed to get new tires soon (which I still need to do). He was also able to take me as a walk in Friday morning which was nice, since I didn't make any appointment but really wanted to get it fixed up before Sundays drive! read more

So many friends have recommended JP Auto, so I have started to have them service my cars and am very happy with them. We had an alternator go out on our Toyota (battery light came on) so I called John there. He confirmed the diagnosis on the phone and provided a quote within a few minutes. I took it over right then, and he had the alternator replaced by end of day. He also replaced a few other items at very low cost since he already had the belts and other parts removed. I work on cars myself and normally would do the work, but the alternator on the Toyota V6 is hard to get to. I could tell from talking to John that he really knew his stuff, was a true professional, and charges a very fair price. For now on, if it is a repair I cannot do myself, I am taking it to JP Auto. read more

Saw this place on Yelp and based on the number of positive reviews, decided to stop by for a quick quote on a rear windshield wiper issue of a recently purchased used car. I didn't get the names of the 2 gentlemen but upon asking them for a quote, they took a look at the wiper and assessed that it's a minor issue where it was incorrectly installed and aligned by the previous owner and they quickly fixed it within 5 minutes without any charge. I greatly appreciate their honest and upfront approach and they have now earned my business as I will be looking to come here auto service needs in the future. read more

I had a tire blowout on Highway 85 and it was thankfully near the De Anza exit because that thing was in shreds. How lucky that JP's was right there! I'm really pleased to have this repair shop so close by. I came in here early in the morning at 8am when they opened to get a smog check. There was only one guy before me. It turns out, he already had his smog check done weeks ago so they were done with my car well before 8:30am. The prices seemed very reasonable and the staff were courteous and friendly. I'm really stunned to see so many 5 star reviews. I'm glad other people had a great experience because great car places are hard to find, but that was not my experience at all. I drove down DeAnza Blvd looking for a place to get my car's smog certificate. JP Auto was open with no cars on a Saturday and had a smog check sign, so I went in. The smog check took over half an hour and was $68. The guy who helped me was NOT friendly. When the smog check finally finished, they told me it passed, gave me the certificate and transmitted it. They confirmed it went through, which I'm mentioning to be fair because I had not brought my paperwork. Fast forward a month, DMV never sent my tags. When I called DMV, they said they had no record of a smog check by JP Auto. I called JP Auto and let them know DMV never received the smog check transmission. The man on the phone was surly and rude. He said I had to come in - no way he could re-send it via a phone request. If that's the law, I have no problem with it, but he didn't say anything like that. He just seemed to not want to deal with a customer and left me with a bad feeling. Because I work in Palo Alto, it's hard to get to JP Auto on a weekday during open hours. So I desperately searched in my paperwork and found the JP Auto smog check paperwork. Examining it for the first time, I saw that my car had NOT passed. It didn't technically fail, but its own computer system's emissions controls did not respond to the check, so the smog check actually was incomplete. So JP Auto, after half an hour and the somewhat high smog check fee, didn't correctly read the smog check. The certificate either didn't go through or wasn't recorded by the DMV because the car hadn't passed. My experience with their lack of friendliness, competence and willingness to help after they messed up left me with a strong desire to avoid them in the future - and that's what I did. I got my car fixed (it had an actual engine problem - carbon deposits), the computer's emissions monitors worked again, and I got a new smog check for $30 less at a much nicer, faster and friendlier place today (which I have also reviewed on Yelp). read more

I'm writing this as the very first thing I'm doing this morning as the kindness of the folks at JP Automotive is what I thought of first when I woke. No joke. I had a harrowing day yesterday when I was driving on the highway from the Peninsula to the "uncharted territory" of south San Jose to help drive a friend to a Kaiser there for back surgery. Unfortunately, with just 15 miles to go, my car started shimmying which made me suspect I had a flat. Fortunately, we were close to an exit and were able to get safely off the freeway and pretty quickly pull into the first service-station-looking driveway we came across -- which just happened to be JP Automotive. A couple of friendly guys who worked there (I didn't get names but if they read this, one could self-identify as I joked about him enjoying his donut) dropped what they were doing and came immediately to check out what was wrong. Their diagnosis confirmed that I had indeed blown out a tire out proceeded to see if my car had a spare to swap in. I didn't (damn newer cars). The guy with the waning donut explained that JP Automotive does just about everything else for cars but not tires and offered to let me stay on their property while I could get my car towed to a tire store. So sent my friend off to Uber her remaining 15 miles to the hospital for her surgery and called AAA to tow me to the tire store. I was taking up space on JP Automotive's busy property for about an hour till AAA came and whisked me off to America's Tires. Both the driver of the AAA tow truck (nice guy named David) AND the salesman at America's Tires (Doug...also a nice guy) separately volunteered that they were familiar with JP Automotive and they each said JP Automotive was one of the best in the area and highly recommended them for anyone in the area. They each highlighted that they believed the guys at JP Automotive not only really knows what they do, but they are also truly honest to deal with as well (wish they were up here on the Peninsula!). So I thought I would take the time to share that with the good community of Yelp -- as well as do this as a big thanks to the guys at JP Automotive (especially the guy who had the tasty looking donut) for easing my heightened anxiety and stress of having to deal with a highway tire blow-out in an unfamiliar area while rushing to get a friend to the hospital for surgery.
