The shop looks impressive as you drive up - Very well cared for - Everything is shiny from the automobiles, to the windows to the floors of the shop - you will feel very comfortable leaving your automobile with them. I was experiencing an issue with my stereo system and needed an alternative to the dealership for service. Bavarium Autoworks was close to my office, so I requested an appointment. I received a prompt text confirmation from Erin. Rachel assisted me and was great to work with as my service advisor. What I was hoping was a minor issue turned into something more serious. Rachel was helpful in suggesting that the repair may be covered by insurance. Unfortunately it was not. The pricing offered by Bavarium was fair and reasonable. So much so that I opted to have the tires replaced and aligned. They provided me with a loaner and kept me updated throughout the repair process. Then I met a "Real Woman" named Rachel over the phone. She told me to get in the car, and she would help me. She guided me through a procedure on the console that solved the problem. Where I do I start, on how bad these people are. I called them a few days back asking for if they would a test to find electrical leak in my car - Mercedes Benz E-320. They asked for the problem and I said that there is an Electrical leak which happens in the car even when i turn off the car over night, it looses charge. My request was to find the Electrical Leak which is happening. They said its going to cost around $240 for which i agreed and dropped the car for testing. After 5 hours they send report which some tests for all the unwanted and not requested tests like the "air pressure in the wheels" is fine, "wipers are working fine" ," Oil leak under the engine", "the auxiliary battery is fine", "the main battery is fine", "key fob battery is not working" (so they changed it, which is like $10 ) and they said, the noticed a leak of 450mA of electrical leak happening and to find the leak of 450mA ,it is going to cost another $575 . When they first told to identify the electrical leak it would be $240, but now they want to take $240 and another $575 a total of $815 just to identify if there is an electrical Leak in the car. All they did was some visual inspection and report on my batteries( which are all new ) , all they did was replace the key fob battery. They Literally skimming you to with some unwanted checks to take as much money as they car doing nothing. I am sure if I continue with the next test for $575, they will give another report saying if i want to know more details i will have to run another set of tests. I told the front desk lady about the initial request and her quote and she blatantly rejected, it and tells that the technician is going to call me. I get the call from the technician, and after talking to him i realized that he didn't work on my car at all. He is not even in the Auto work center. Some guy who has been in this business to extracting money from people, and only talks to customers ( he didnt even check the car) says that this is what is would cost for me to get it completely diagnosed. I am sure if I continue with these it would like an Abyss to suck all the money out. I should have trusted the Yelp reviews and not go to these people at all. Hope this review helps other people. If there is time I will file a complaint on these people to take the right action. Its not about the money, Its about people who think they can what ever they want and get away with it. I have found Bavarium Autoworks (formerly Carbahn) to be the finest BMW repair shop in the San Francisco Bay Area since my moving here in April 2013. They provide superb diagnostic capabilities, excellent work, unbelievable customer service, and strong value - typically at least 30% off of dealer prices. Owners Erin and Andy Gomes make a very strong team indeed, with Erin serving as the business manager and Andy serving as the shop foreman. Recently at a leading BMW dealer, I was unable to have my X3 drivetrain issue properly diagnosed, despite their having the vehicle for nearly two weeks. A Master Diagnostician and expert technician alike, Andy was able to solve the problem in short order. He determined (with absolute confidence) that the wastegate valve of the turbocharger was sticking, thereby causing a rattle and loss of requisite backpressure. While this issue required a replacement of the turbocharger, this option was much less costly than replacing the vehicle. Just needed a new battery for my car for which I got charged $688! I called BMW of Mountain View right after, yes the DEALERSHIP, and they quoted me $540 for a replacement. Bavarium also wanted to charge me to diagnose the battery??? It starts up with a jump-start and it doesn't when it's not connected, I'm really not sure what more the diagnosis would consist of. I understand that BMW batteries are expensive, and programming is needed but charging $330 for labor for a battery replacement which should take no less than 30 minutes is just incredible. I don't like leaving negative reviews, everyone was polite and they did a complimentary thorough inspection of my car, which I appreciate. But asserting you charge less than the dealership when you're actually charging much more is just incredibly dishonest. read more

I was hoping to find a reliable place (which is according to the reviews) but cheaper than the dealer for a 9-year old VW GTI. Before taking the car in for regular maintenance, I asked for a quote to replace the battery as my car does not start. The price that was given to me was $545, for a genuine VW battery with installation cost is $345 as they have to program it to the vehicle. I am not an expert but that seems very expensive to replace a battery. I have done it before and never paid that much. Andy was able to identify issues on the e46 that multiple dealerships couldn't not help me pinpoint the last few years, and it was done on time, on schedule with the proper parts. No needing to worry about something getting the play-doh patchwork services here. Erin also was able to help the scheduling and help me find the proper engine components parts for the 435i after I've had some rough idle and shudder while at 80 mph on the freeway, within 24 hours of first contact Ever since giving the 4 series a first visit here, I haven't had any of those random annoying issues this far even when the engine is pushed beyond 80 mph on valley roads. Esp with the new ISTA/ISPA system scanners in place for cars with any form of changes beyond stock.. it might not be worth going to the dealership anymore regardless... The cloth moonroof started getting stuck while retracting on our BMW X1, and BMW of Mountain View wanted $2700 to fix it! (It's an odd BMW design that requires the entire roof interior to be disassembled and a large and expensive moonroof "cartridge" to be replaced.) I did a search for local private shops and found Bavarium, which quoted $2000 for the same thing. We were very pleasantly surprised with the quality of repair, efficiency, fast repair, on-time delivery, well-organized systems, and especially Erin's excellent communication throughout the process. They did the suspension and subframe reinforcement work perfectly, and were patient with me wanting to dig in and get my hands a little dirty. Even though the work was done elsewhere, Bavarium took care of everything with DINAN to get it replaced under warranty. I have been going to the Mountain View location for a number of years and I have been helped by Wayne (or Dr. Boles as I call him) and Chris on my visits. There are a number of other team members I have met (sorry, I am lousy with names) and everyone here has been pleasant and professional. On a rare occasion I have been lucky to run into Steve Dinan himself. I first went here to inquire about DINAN performance parts back in the day. In talking with Wayne, I found out that they also work on cars - service, maintenance, repairs, and such could be done here. What is cool is that they DO know a ton about these cars. I have tried and failed many a time to stomp Wayne on matters about these cars. On the rare occasion he was not 100% sure about something, he would go find out and get back to me. I trust my cars to SD Autotech and will happily refer my friends and family there. I am very, very particular about my cars so for me to be willing to trust and leave my cars to a shop - it speaks very highly of their professionalism. I absolutely love the workshop, I always call it an operating theater, it is literally so clean you almost feel like you can eat off the floor. Earlier this year, I had a project car to build for a special event. I talked with the team here and they were of course ready to help with whatever I need on their part. I had unexpected car trouble and a check engine light that came on right before the holiday weekend when I was supposed to go out of town and they took my car in and got an answer for me with an estimate the same day, despite already being busy. I was in a rush to get my car back as I had to pay for a rental while it was in the shop. They got it done within 2 days so I wouldn't have to stay in a rental. They also texted updates while I was at work which made I very convenient as I have a job facing customers and can't always answer the phone. I have a 2006 BMW 325Ci that I had searched for a good and trustworthy maintenance/repair shop instead of having it serviced at dealership (who cost me arms and legs) for years. After bounced around several "Specialized" shops, I finally found someone who can correctly diagnose the problem, and fix my car at the first attemp, and tells me what repairs are needed and why, succintly (very important for me). Erin, Andy, and Chris are all great to work with. Very flexible and accommodating, if I have any drop-off/pick-up time constraints. I came in to get some Dinan parts for my M4. I ordered a mid pipe and bbs wheels. I ended up canceling the wheels because I found a better price on the wheels. They were really helpful and smooth with the cancelation process which was really nice and the money I had put down ended up going into credit for my future work. They have a very spacious office area with nice tiling and comfortable chairs. I has asked Chris if they do any non-dinan installations and as long as there's instructions it gets done. So I got the RKS front lip and Vorstiener rear diffuser they didn't come with instructions but the mechanic (who's name I don't remember-sorry mechanic man and thank you for your amazing work) looked up some videos and looked up more just to make sure he got it down and it still came out amazing. I cant wait for my eventuri intakes to come in as well as my Alcantara M Preformane steering wheel and throw more money at this place. If you drive a mini and or BMW come to this shop. While you're waiting there (if you choose to do so) then they have free refreshments nice and cold. As well as a espresso machine. They also accommodate you with some free WiFi so if you plan on lounging waiting for your vehicle to be finished being worked on being a laptop or a tablet it'll make the hours go by faster when you got Netflix! read more

The mechanics are all friendly, however Andrew goes out of his way to make sure everything is ok. My car broke down in the later evening and I called Andrew after work hours asking what I should do. I'm a new customer to Bavarium. I have a 2006 325i which is low mileage. I'm a long-time customer of the Driving Machine in Cupertino, but the owners closed that shop last year, so I was in need of a local shop with a solid reputation. My wife read an article in the SJ Mercury News about a young couple (ex BMW service technicians) who decided to take a chance and start an auto service shop at the absolutely worst time in the world - right before the emergence of Covid 19. So I did a little checking and decided they were worth the risk. I asked them to simply check out my car in anticipation of a long trip through the mountains. They did so, plus changed my oil. They identified a number of issues which require service - but not immediately. They said it could wait another year! They priced the work out for me, made a note in my service record, and told me the car is good to go. I'm impressed that a new owner, who certainly must be feeling the economic pinch of Covid, had the integrity to tell me two problems can wait. They certainly could have talked me into spending another $2K, but they didn't. I loved their service. I love their honesty. I now have a new service shop I can trust. 5 stars! read more

Our e39 M5 needed a new clutch, pinion seal, giubo, and washer pump. The car had been serviced at Dinan (now SD Autotech) previously for VANOS solenoids and a stage 1 suspension kit. I expected a healthy bill, but also expected superlative service, and I wasn't disappointed. I do most of my own work on my cars, but for a job like this, I wanted the professionals to do it, and do it right. -Cleanest shop I've ever seen. -Professional, communicative, personable, and honest. -Erin and Charles were fantastic. -Work was done right and they worked with us on an item they'd previously serviced that while out of warranty, was a bit young to have failed again If you own a BMW or Audi, you understand that these cars are built to high standards and require special skills, patience, and knowledge. Somehow, 5 stars don't seem quite enough...... I brought my car in this morning for an aftermarket mod and they had quoted me about an hour and a half to two hours, but it was done in one hour ! And when I say "done" I mean "done right". Erin, the service manager, and Chris, the tech who actually did the work were both very knowledgeable, and super friendly. Chris took the time to make sure everything lined up and delivered the car back to me in showroom condition. When the windshield washer pump on my 128i gave out I went to the dealership to see about a replacement. Since they had missed it on the 'comprehensive' inspection a month before, I felt that charging me another full diagnostic seemed steep, and was referred to Bavarium by a service rep. It was worth the drive out of my area and I was very pleased with the quality of their service. Erin and Nathan were friendly, responsive and informative every step of the way, including attending to a few other maintenence items that were due. Erin was able to access my records from BMW so that she could see all past service on the car, and my car was returned in a timely way and sparkling clean. They've done a ton of their own R & D and it shows in the added performance I've gained in my BMW. Because of this they tend to get a bad rap on the web forums due to their premium pricing; it's because of their extensive development that I view this as added value and the reason why I chose their products over other tuners. It also helps that they're local! During my first few visits their software needed to be custom tuned to my car, and this is something you can't do with mail order performance upgrades. Jeff is the service manager at this location and has been my performance handler since day one. The front office has shrunk from their previous location but Jeff and Erin have a pretty good handle on things. On my last visit they were very friendly and understanding of my service needs, which included a factory BMW recall and defective front shocks. Jeff laid everything out for me; they offered to take care of the factory recall with a local BMW dealer and then deal with the other work I needed. read more

Absolutely flawless experience from the time I contacted them to make an appointment to the final delivery of my vehicle. I have a 2009 Mini Cooper S. For the past 5 years I have been taking it to the SF dealership paying through the nose and I really wanted to try new options. Since I work in Palo Alto I found Dinan Mountain View via a Google search. I had heard of them as a performance BMW shop and was surprised to see they provide a complete set of MINI services. I emailed them and within the hour they answered all my questions. Very friendly people. They gave me a quick estimate and arranged an appointment 2 days later just as I requested. I was also pleased that they take amex (which SF Mini does not). They asked me if I wanted a courtesy shuttle ride back to my work which I accepted. (They cover a 10mi radius). They open at 7.30am (very convenient to drop off car before work). I love the experience there. It is like entering a state of the art shop, clean, large, super equipped with no line (have a peek through the door to the garage and you will understand). They even welcomed me by my name simply by recognizing the car (I had never been there before). Did not feel like a number more like a VIP getting private service. Compared to them the dealership was a jungle. Not that it matters much but they have a nice Nespresso coffee machine, selection of soft drinks and a clean waiting area. Details.. It's all there. Everything was explained and printed. They even worked with my schedule to have the car ready at my preferred time. There was no pressure to do more than what I requested. As scheduled car was ready when they said it would be. They gave me also a quote for future works they found during inspection (things I knew about like suspension rods, front tires worn etc). Once again no waiting. I left wondering what they could have done better and still cannot figure it out.. Maybe a car wash?.. But that's minor. They are just awesome and the new home for my MINI services. Not going back to the dealership. Oh and their prices were lower than the dealer of course.. read more
