I was extremely disappointed with my experience. My vehicle came back with damage to the rims that was not there before. Instead of taking responsibility, there was little concern shown for the issue, which made the situation even more frustrating. I expect businesses to treat customers' vehicles with care and to be honest when mistakes happen. Accidents can happen, but how a business responds says everything. Unfortunately, this experience left me with damaged rims and a lack of confidence in the service. I have to ask: was I treated this way because I am an Asian woman, or is Rodger simply rude to customers in general? I clearly made an appointment for 10:00 AM. However, starting at 9:23 AM, I received calls saying that I had a 9:00 AM appointment and asking whether I wanted to cancel because I had not shown up. This confused and stressed me out, and I rushed to the store because I was made to feel like I was late. When I arrived, there was no line or visible wait. Rodger, a tall white male employee who appeared to be in his 50s and wore glasses, was at the tire counter. Because I thought I might have been late, I approached him politely and greeted him right away. Instead of helping me, he told me to wait and then took three separate phone calls while I stood there. It felt like he was intentionally making me wait. When I explained that my appointment time was actually 10:00 AM, he simply responded with one word -- "fault" -- and offered no apology, no explanation, and no accountability. If I had not rushed in after receiving those incorrect calls, would my appointment have been canceled because of his mistake? From beginning to end, his attitude was rude and dismissive. He made me feel embarrassed and uncomfortable, and I found myself asking questions in an overly apologetic and submissive way just to avoid making the situation worse. Even when it was time to sign, he did not explain anything. He simply handed me a pen without saying a word. Because I was upset by his attitude, I asked what it was for, and only then did he say one word: "signature." There was no explanation of the warranty, no paperwork explanation, no explanation of what had been done to my vehicle, and no guidance after the service was completed. When I asked about the warranty paperwork, he reacted as if he was annoyed or angry. Why? I came here because I urgently needed tire service and this location was convenient, but if Rodger continues to work here, I will not return. This experience damaged my trust in this business as a whole. I will also be filing a formal complaint with corporate. I brought my car in due to a slow leak claimed it was a pin hole in sidewall that cannot be fixed. They then ordered the wrong sized tire. Not so bad if I didn't have to go there in order to find out my tire had come in. I waited for over an hour before I find out they ordered the wrong tire yet didn't tell me nor give me my keys back. No respect for my time. Poor communication. Obviously no communication with the technician who would know the correct tire size. Then the guy has the audacity to tell me he won't change me extra, for what I wonder I'm getting a lesser quality tire, smaller in size so it costs less. I drove over 70 miles from Antioch and scheduled an online appointment for a simple oil change. I even arrived an hour early for my appointment time. When I walked in, I was immediately told they could not do the oil change and that I would need to leave the car for about four hours. Naturally, I asked what the purpose of making an appointment was. The employee then told me they do not make appointments for fleet vehicles because the car is an Avis rental. However, this was my fourth time bringing this same vehicle in for an oil change, and each time I scheduled an appointment online without any issue. Driving 70+ miles, spending gas and time, only to be turned away makes absolutely no sense. If fleet vehicles are not eligible for appointments, why is there a fleet vehicle checkbox in the online booking system if the appointment will not be honored? This experience was extremely frustrating and felt like a complete waste of my time and fuel. Businesses should honor the appointments their system allows customers to make or clearly state the policy before someone drives over an hour for service. read more

Went in for an oil change no appointment. They got it done in a couple hours I believe. I have no reason to be dissatisfied with that. Mr. Bacon was friendly and showed me the quote up front. Not bad for a full synthetic oil change these days. Only remark is that they called me when it was done. I came to pick it up and the person who called me was Mr. Bacon and did not tell Mr. Bacon that I was called, making Mr. Bacon have to figure out what was going on. And when Mr. Bacon asked the tech if he called, the tech barely responded and ignored his other questions. read more

Would not honor the 65K mile warranty on my tires. Claims the tires won't fit my car even though they installed them. Dishonest right to your face. I feel like they should have just called and tell us that instead of us driving all the way to Sunnyvale to go for our appointment. Don't come here on a Saturday. The San Carlos location before is better because they call us ahead of time to ask what kind of lights we need and if they have it we can come. These people cannot be trusted and have no integrity whatsoever. My car was dropped off running at Pep Boys and was returned completely dead. The tow driver had a very hard time backing it up and immediately noted new noises and suspected a transmission issue that was not present when he picked up the vehicle from my house and took it to them. When we took it to a different repair shop, the new shop confirmed a transmission problem I did not have before, and the estimated repair cost is $8,439.64. On top of everything, When I declined Pep Boys services, the car was returned to me parked in human waste. I contacted the store and the area managers and no one cares to call back. Just a heads-up for anyone considering this tire shop: they managed to put three tires on right and one tire completely the wrong size, the TPMS sensors were giving me an error problem message, and then had the audacity to tell me it was my car's fault. They sent me off to the dealership claiming it was a TPMS sensor issue, which cost me $150 just to find out--surprise!--everything was fine with the sensors. It was just their screw-up. When I came back, the manager tried to act like giving me the correct tire (which they should've put on in the first place) was some kind of gift. And then they offered me a couple of oil changes instead of refunding the dealership fee. Like I'm ever coming back here again--no thanks! I made an appointment to get all of my lights changed out in my Nissan. I showed up on the day of my appointment and spoke to a guy named Roger and mentioned that they were busy but that he'd still take my appointment. I was thinking wow I make an appointment ahead of time but can still be turned away. He then told me it would take about two or three hours to get my car back. I came back a little before the 3 hour timeframe and my car was still at the same spot I parked earlier. I walked in to ask about the status and Roger was like "they are still working on the cars earlier in the day" and then I asked about the 3 hour timeframe and he answered "well it's Sunday and I don't have many mechanics." I said "okay that's fair but how much longer do you think?" He answered with attitude "probably closing time if you're lucky" then I snapped back "but these are only light bulbs we are changing?" He then said that "your job was not a priority and you can take your keys back if you wish." I then called a place close by called Valvoline and they said they could change my lights same day even if it was this late on a Sunday. I got my keys from Roger and got all my lights changed out at Valvoline. Probably safe to say to not take your vehicle to Pep Boys on a Sunday. read more

They didn't bother putting it up or looking at any of the suspension parts. Just a drive test. Visit Date/Time: Monday, February 23 at approximately 1:30 PM I was assisted by the only male clerk at the register after he finished another customer's order. I explained that my tire valve stem was damaged and showed him a close-up photo. Without taking my name or vehicle information, he gestured for me to move aside and said, "Let me take care of the lady first," referring to a woman who had been standing behind me. He then loudly and enthusiastically served her. After about 15 minutes, he placed her paperwork in the "pending order" folder (indicating it was a new order handled ahead of mine). During this time, my information was never taken. He abruptly cut off a phone call, cursed, and walked out without explanation. After returning briefly, he again walked outside and yelled, "Come over with me." He inspected my tire and immediately said, "You broke this." I responded that it was already broken, as shown in the photo. He then said, "There's nothing I can do for you. You'd have to take it to the dealer. We can't fix the TPMS sensor." When I asked if that was it, he gave no response and walked away without another word. For reference, vehicles manufactured after 2007 are equipped with TPMS. Had he asked for my vehicle's year and make, he could have clarified the situation in under a minute. This entire interaction should be verifiable via indoor camera recordings. This was an extremely unprofessional and disappointing customer service experience. Take your business elsewhere. read more

So I bought 4 tires and an alignment at PEP boys. My tires were balding in the front on the outer edges. I brought my car in and had my receipt. I wanted to get two new front tires and my alignment done under what I thought was a warranty. But instead of the 65,000 mile tire warranty on the receipt it is some other warranty I was supposed to buy to replace tires that are not even 3 months old. Save your money and definitely go somewhere else. It's crazy work not to stand by your work and help a customer who spent over 1,000.00 on services. I had prepaid appointment which included everything: "1) tire mounting and balancing, 2) TPMS reset or valve stem replacement, and 3) handing/recycling fees". Meanwhile, the problem symptoms continued and we ended taking the car to the dealership and paid for them to inspect. The dealer reported the front left rotor (which was changed by Pep Boys in January) was in "terrible shape" and that the car was not safe to drive! We bit the bullet and paid for the dealer to change the front brakes, as we did not feel like being bullied again by the Sunnyvale Pep Boys staff. Finally, the car now acts normal when we step on the brakes. We feel we were robed and taken advantage of by Pep Boys, but we are now relieved knowing our car is safe to drive. read more

I made an appointment to install new rims on my old e150 Club wagon. Upon coming in I was told there is 3 hour wait time until anyone can look at my car. What's the appointment for? Then I was told that Pep Boys can not install my old ( like new) tires on the new rims as a matter of policy. I suggested to sign a liability release - denied. Then I asked to install rear brake shoes ( I happen to have a set that I procured before) denied as matter of policy. Then I asked to power flush transmission fluid and replace it - denied as not recommended without prior record. While everything was explained to me and I can not argue the policy if it exists, still it sounds like this place does not appreciate a customer like me. I did not ask for anything that other service shop wouldn't do. Suggested release of liability didn't satisfy the beast. I went to other place with no appointment and got it all done. Roger the manger is a jerk. Absolutely terrible service and work! Supposedly Brand new brakes and rotors and 6 months later need to replaced (pads completely worn out) call in to check warranty they say it's covered only to tell me it's not covered by warranty because it's over the limit 200 miles. Not even sure they put new brakes on the first time. Never ever had new rotors and pads put on and there's no pad 6 months later but the front are completely fine! Don't go here for vehicle inspection or tire service! First thing they did was to look at my tires and said I need two new tires on the front (based on wear. The tire tread gage (at another shop) showed that they were good (asi thought and saw, it was no where near the wear bar). Keep in mind that Pep Boys is on the business of selling tires. So, I scheduled a same day appointment for an oil change and wind shield wiper replacement. They talked me up for a headlight restoration service and I said why not. The estimated time was 3 hours, so I went off to find other things to do for three hours. Three hours on the dot, my car was ready and everything was stellar. My headlights looked BRAND SPANKIN NEW and they were so friendly as they handled my paperwork and throughout the process. My car is running smoothly and I've already mentioned to at least 5 of my friends how nice my headlights look. Give this place a chance! read more

I always had luck with Pepboys... until my wife and I took her car into the shop. I'm no mechanic, but I do have basic understanding of cars and what makes them go. We took the car in for new brakes, that was fine. They suggested new tires, also totally fine and I knew they were needed. An alignment, again... totally legit. I raised a concern though that the car was experiencing a wobble at high speed (higher than 50) I knew of an issue with control arms and this specific model year. I asked for it to be checked. I fully understand that Pepboys might not have been able to perform that work, but to them there was absolutely nothing wrong other than my tires and alignment. Turns out that was completely false. Complete failure of the control arms. Something they did state they could fully check and repair. You want new tires or brakes, cool. Anything more serious potentially happening? Go elsewhere.
