Had my alternator die on a sunny San Jose afternoon. I live in Concord. Did a quick Yelp search and chose Autotrend based upon reviews and the AAA driver's recommendation. Eddie was wonderful! Offered me a complimentary soda while he took care of paperwork and told me he prob wouldn't have an answer today because of time but would call me the next day. Luckily, I have family close by . Received a call in the early afternoon from Eddie. The testing they had to do took time and yes, it was my alternator but unfortunately they had to order one for me so the car wouldn't be ready till the next day. Caught a ride to the shop early afternoon, Eddie briefed me on warranty and extra services offered. What I appreciated is the communication I received via Yelp prior to picking up the car. The car had a couple small issues and they gave me the choice as to have them take care of it or leave it up to me and to have the amount included in my total instead of hitting me with the added price surprise at the end. The dealership told me that I needed a repair, but their recommendation seemed off so I took my Ford to Autotrend. I discussed the supposed issue with José, they put my car up on the lift and verified what I was pretty sure was true - I didn't need $400 worth of work done to my suspension. They told me it was out of Freon which they replaced but couldn't find where it leaked out but put a dye in the Freon. 6/29/22 it went out again. Was able to bring it back in 7/5/22. Really bummed to have to give then only 2 stars. We had been customers of Autotrend for many many years and have brought many cars here over the years. Recently we had to bring in our vehicle for some transmission issues. We explained the problem and asked them to run a diagnostic and inspection. Jose called and said they had inspected it and it was the transmission assembly. Ok, we said to go ahead and fix that. We asked them if they did check the actual transmission, their answer was "yes, we checked everything". Several days later, car is ready, we go to pick it up, pay our 2k and start ro drive out of their parking lot only to have the check engine light go on. Turn around and go back in and they hook it up to the computer and say they just need to clear codes and all will be good. Drive it home and the next day it has the same problem only worse. Have it towed back and they again inspect it and say oh its your transmission. We were mad! We asked several times if they did check the transmission, when we picked it up we asked straight out....did you check the tranmission? Was it ok. And we were told yes they did in fact check it. They apologized, said it will now be 6k to get a new transmission or we can refund the 2k you already paid. We found a transmission shop who ordered us a rebuilt transmission with unlimited mileage and 3 yr nationwide warranty for 3k. Once again had it towed to a new shop and within a week it was good as new. What is disappointing too is that we never got to talk to Dave, the owner. My family has been customers for well over 20 years. You would think with an error this big maybe the boss would contact you personally. Needless to say, Autotrend lost us as costomers as well as my mom, dad, grandma and inlaws. read more

Horrible Horrible Horrible I rarely post reviews, but this one got me angry. My 1992 nissan 240sx was due for a smog. Did not pass because the timing is off and it needed a new catalytic converter. I read good reviews over at Yelp about this shop. So I decided to head over there to get my car fixed. I told the mechanic there the timing was off. He said he could get it fixed. I didn't care much about the catalytic converter because I can go to a muffler shop. Roughly a day later, the mechanic called to "upsell" me a complete tune up, thinking that it will change the timing. I told him its been done. RED FLAG RED FLAG. Then, he tries to "upsell" me again with a smog. He said he knows a guy that can smog the vehicle. So I told him just to fix the timing. REG FLAG RED FLAG. Another day went by and the mechanic called and said the timing on the vehicle is fixed. Relieved that this is finally over and I brought my 240sx back to the smog shop (free or cheaper the second time around) and to my surprise, the smog tech guy told me the timing has NOT been changed. They helped me with my fan belt which was yelping to be replaced every time I started up my car, and when I was sitting at stop lights. I had some recall work done on my 2011 Escape by Capitol Ford and was told that my front brakes were in need of repair, as they had done a full vehicle inspection. I took my vehicle in to Autotrend Diagnostics to have the front brakes serviced. They also did a full inspection and, besides the brakes, also found that I had a leak in my transmission/air conditioning cooler and that there was a leak in the fuel delivery system where Ford had just completed the recall work! Always get my Van RV serviced at autotrends... Last time was a new Ignition Module even tho my 1992 Dodge Van no longer manufactured them... They found an aftermarket company that would guarantee their modules and did the installation.. Works great now... A year later, I have some "gunk" appear in my Carb Air Filter and double checked with them, Yes, they said it was probably the Crankcase Breather that has an "oil separator" inside that possible ruptured spewing the "gunk" into my Air Cleaner... I was looking for a mechanic to fix the suspension on my car. It was making some rattling noises when going over loose road at a slow speed. Since I live in the Campbell area I searched the businesses nearby and found Autotrend. I spoke with Dave on the phone before taking my car in and my first impression was that he was very friendly and thorough. I told him that I had done a little research and that it may be the sway bar causing the noise although I wasn't 100% sure of that. We discussed a ballpark price and I brought my car in for service. I was hoping to spend no more than roughly $300 since this is what the estimated cost of repair was based on a website that gives you estimates of repair costs, one of which endorses Autotrend Diagnostics, they even have the seal on the window. The estimate from the website was around $200, Dave mentioned that they would be on the higher end of the scale, fine by me. The actual cost was about $300 to replace the sway bar. While Dave still had my car, he gave me a call and let me know that he also found a worn/broken transmission mount, would be an additional $500 to fix. I hesitated slightly because that's alot of money but hey, if it may cure the problem and for safety, I gave him the OK. Next day the car was done and I went to pick it up. Met with Dave and he even showed me the worn out part that he replaced from the transmission mount. He said the car was ready to go. I was excited that my car would finally be free of that annoying rattling sound. Dave had mentioned that they tested the car to try and pinpoint the sound. We did also discuss the possibility of it being the front shocks although those were replaced just recently. I left the shop and although it seems the noise it a tad bit better, it's still there and still annoying. I would have given Dave and his team 5 stars because he's a very nice person to deal with, the shop looks clean, in a nice area, very thorough, showed me the worn part, etc..... If my car would have been fixed, of course, 5 stars galore, well earned. But..... I left with my car still making the annoying noise that I brought it in with. My expectation was to drop my car off, tell mechanic to get rid of the noise, fix that noise, drive off with no noise. Were my sway bars really the issue? What if I didn't mention the sway bars from the initial phone call, then maybe would they have pinpointed a different issue that perhaps may have fixed the problem? Next time I take my car to a mechanic I'm just going to say, fix that noise and I don't want my car back until that noise is gone. read more

Really friendly guys, I LOVED that we called them ahead of time when we were looking for places to take my car, and they took the time to chat with us about what I might need to get done (was doing 100,000 maintenance on my honda) and specifically, in regards to any mechanic 'you'll want to make sure they check out this, that' - not immediately presuming/saying we'd have to go to them. Needless to say, by not doing that, they won our business. When we came in everyone was polite, friendly, place was clean, they even have other beverages (soda, water bottles) in case you don't just want coffee. They did an oil change and review of the car and when they called us back in, just told us simply what needed to be done and why (e.g. transmission fluid is black so I'd definitely get that done). They even brought up issues I hadn't mentioned, like needing to fix my brake pads and had I noticed the car rumbling when stopped? Ultimately, the one star off is for over pricing. They quoted me $85 for an air cabin filter change (which I can do for free with a $10 replacement), and $320 for brakes, $150 for transmission, of which I was able to get done elsewhere much more cheaply. That said, they were VERY cool about everything - when I said 'ok, I think I'll check out this other mechanic for the repairs' they were still just as friendly 'ok, we'll have the car ready for you' and not gripping about how I couldn't possibly get it done better elsewhere (another mechanic experience elsewhere that I had). A very nice, friendly, smooth and honest maintenance review of my car. Especially since I know zilch about cars, its nice to know there is a place I can go to that I trust to tell me honestly what needs to be done, and without hassle. read more

Dave and his guys are reliable and honest, and that's about the best compliment you can give an auto shop. I've had a couple of my vehicles in and they always do quality work, which they stand behind. Most recently, I had a problem with my '96 Corvette and the 'Service Engine Soon' light. It took three attempts to get it squared away, which might not sound good, but let me explain. After the first visit, the light came on again, so I took it back in and they only charged me for a part, around $80. The third visit was free, and that fixed it for good. No labor charges after the first visit. I mention this because I can only imagine that other less honest shops would have used a situation like that to charge me as much as they could for each visit, and upsell me as much as possible, for things I probably don't even need. All this tells me that Dave is more interested in doing a good job and being honest, and building customer loyalty than trying to rip off customers. Thanks to David and his crew I avoided a big mistake. I had found the (used) car of my dreams at a very good price from a private dealer. He did agree to take it to Autotrends, and they went over it with a fine tooth comb.
