The communication was poor, and they requested an excessive amount of information. Despite already providing the VIN and car details, they followed up by asking for the license plate as well. Overall, I would not recommend their services. I took my Honda Element in yesterday to have them see why it was having intermittent trouble starting. Their team was able to diagnose and fix the issue (starter) and did an overall check, topping off my oil and replacing front brake pads. They take too long to give estimates. They had my car from 8am until 3pm and still had not started the work. When I got the estimate it was extremely high. My 2014 Prius had the oh so terrifying check-engine light. Priuses are virtually maintenance-free so this had me quite worried. I looked up the closest, highest-reviewed car shop on Yelp and Auto Tec popped up. The owner answered and said they could fit me in right away. I showed up and was met by a very nice service person who checked me in and came out to look at my car. He ran a diagnostic and said he knew what the problem might be. CHECK THIS OUT: The check engine light came on because my gas tank was overfilled, and the check engine light was as basically telling me "Don't do that, homie" (see photo). The honesty and forthrightness of the guy made me so grateful that after I paid him for the diagnostic (which was quite low for his time), I went and picked up some coffees and pastries for him and his crew because they were so awesome. Because not only was the problem solved, but he taught me how to treat my car better which I will remember forever. And that's pretty cool in my book. read more

After having a few local repair shops tell me they couldn't do the job due to it being a "dealer item" I posted up an inquiry on Yelp and was pleasantly surprised that there are some shops that will go the extra mile to help keep you out of the dealership. Case and point, my 2014 Hyundai Sonata. First car (outside of a collectible Dodge Charger) that I've ever owned for at least 10 years. The ABS brake module went belly up and it's a spendy part to say the least. My husband found one back east for $1600 from a Hyundai dealership which was half of what the two local San Jose area dealers were asking. I dropped my car off with Auto Tec on a Friday morning and they had the new part replaced and programed by Monday early afternoon. The labor charge was affordable, the shop was clean, and the people were very knowledgeable. I actually enjoyed some old school muscle car banter when I first dropped by their shop. I have a 99 suburban that I bought new with only 80,000 miles. I took it into AAA diagnostic center and they did a full checkup and found that I needed a lot of work. Their quote was over $6,000 to complete the "required" work. I called Auto Tec and just gave them the diagnostic, but not the quote from AAA and asked them to give me a quote for fixing the list of items on the AAA report. Connor at Auto Tec said that the report looked "off" and if I brought the car in, he would give me their assessment and quote at no charge. They found more than a few things that were declared needing replacement by AAA just because the car was old without looking at the part itself. They were able to fix everything on the list and a couple of things AAA didn't see for a little over $4,500. The work took just a couple of days and the truck is in great working order now. Had an expensive quote from the dealership for a couple repairs and was trying to save money. Told Auto Tec what the dealer said and that I was looking for a second opinion. Paid $180 for a diagnostic, was told it'd take 1-2 hours but after 8 hours they confirm the same issues. Receive a quote that is ~17% less than the dealer. A few days pass waiting for parts. I check the dealer and Auto Tec quotes by line item and it turns out the larger of the 2 repairs is actually more expensive at Auto Tec, while the smaller is much less. I show Auto Tec the dealer quote, they acknowledge it's unusual to be priced higher than a dealer and agree to take off some labor on the larger item. However, conveniently they say the lower priced item was actually priced incorrectly on their end, and its price more than doubles. Nets out to still saving me another ~3%, I thank them and sign off on the work. After leaving I notice the $180 diagnostic fee that I already paid separately was not deducted from the new quote as I was promised. I send an email to confirm this will be done, and instead am told they forgot to add fluids/coolant and the price has increased back up to near the original quote, despite me being verbally told the quote already included fluids (get everything in writing). I tell them if the quote won't be honored I don't want the service done (talking a $214 gap on a $2.5k repair here), they don't honor it and that's the end of the story. Ultimately I'm out $180 for a diagnostic that literally says "Another shop states: (my issue)" and hours of time. You can decide if the hassle is worth saving ~17% vs the dealer, or look elsewhere for another mechanic. read more

Terrible experience, I waste 200 dollars!!! I went to this place for a "used car inspection" because I wanted to be sure of buy a used car and I trusted them, according to their diagnosis the car was good and I decided to buy the vehicle but ohhhh surprise these people from this place did not used the scan, which is something so basic for any mechanic, and they didn't realize that the car's catalytic converter didn't work and I trusted them and paid 200 dollars for a garbage job that they did. Don't waste your money on this place for a "used car inspection" Ohhh and I said that they didn't used the scan because my mechanic scanned my car and he could read that the problem has been consistent so is impossible that they couldn't see it before told me that the car "was good"!! read more
