Terrible experience, I waste 200 dollars!!! I went to this place for a "used car inspection" because I wanted to be sure of buy a used car and I trusted them, according to their diagnosis the car was good and I decided to buy the vehicle but ohhhh surprise these people from this place did not used the scan, which is something so basic for any mechanic, and they didn't realize that the car's catalytic converter didn't work and I trusted them and paid 200 dollars for a garbage job that they did. Don't waste your money on this place for a "used car inspection" Ohhh and I said that they didn't used the scan because my mechanic scanned my car and he could read that the problem has been consistent so is impossible that they couldn't see it before told me that the car "was good"!! read more

This Autotech shop is the best in San Jose!!!! I had a coolant problem and my coworker recommended me this place, I am so glad he did!! I called next morning as soon as they opened, and that day I made an appiontment for 2pm, although the guy on phone said they were slammed he will still check for me because a coolant is a big issue! I never had mechanics that were so sweet, caring, reliable and even trustworthy. Their quality of work is amazing. They didn't rip me off, they did all the tests they could do, they told me excatly what the issue was and were so quick to replace that part too! I was a long time customer of Auto Tec when it was owned by Don and his family-- back when they were located on Los Gatos Blvd nearly 20 years ago. I stopped going when I bought a new car a few years ago, but yesterday my car began having problems. I gave Auto Tec a call when the dealer's servicing center gave me a huge estimate to replace one of the ignition coils. Alex and his crew did the work for a reasonable rate and in a shorter amount of time-- not to mention that Alex noticed that my air filter had not been changed in what seemed to be a long time (it was so filthy that it looked like the place I went to skipped it the past two oil changes or more). I really appreciated Auto Tec's thorough service, they make you feel taken care of. Also, there's a discount if you pay in cash, so keep that in mind. I'll be returning to get my oil changes done here from now on... even if it is out of my way. It's worth knowing that things will be done right ( and saving me money and hassles later on). read more

On 3/2 took my 2015 Honda Civic in due to the check TPMS, Hill Start assist system, power steering system light coming on and the car making a scratching sound. Their technician, Maro charged me for a diagnostic job and stated that it was my breaks that needed to be repaired but had no clear answer why the sensors were flashing or why the car was making the sound to begin with. The job cost me 752$ and as soon I left the lot and was at the lights started flashing and the screeching sound came on. Took the car back in and Marlo stated that the car needed to be recalibrated and then took me inside the car with him and once again within 5 minutes the car started to make sounds. The same issues that I brought the car in with were the same issues when I left. There was no offer to repair, order the part my car needed, and no guarantee the car was safe to drive. The car appears to have more issues once I put my foot on the break (i.e the break peddle seems to sink when pushed and you can feel the jolt plus hear the screech). Marlo stated that the "sensors" was making my car think it was "flipped over" which is why it was making a sound and told me "at least now we can confirm its a sensor issue." A clear indicator that the breaks were never the issue to begin with and now appear to have issues which I'll be making an appointment at the dealership to be properly assessed. Questions: Why did I pay for a diagnostic service when the diagnosis was incorrect and why did I pay for a job that was NOT the cause of the issue? And lastly why was there no offer to resolve the issue? If they were not sure or incapable of properly diagnosing and repairing the car then they should have sent me on my way and I would have not wasted 752.00 for a useless service. The amount of anxiety that this has caused me was not worth the money I threw away and there is a liability factor to consider giving me an unsafe car to drive. read more

My first time going to Auto Tec. These guys are great. When I was there waiting to drop off my car, they were servicing a woman's car in front of me. Her tires needed new pressure sensors and they advised her to wait until she replaced her tires to save time and money. They set the correct pressure in all the tires and sent her on her way with no charge. I was impressed. They treated me equally well and with respect. I brought my car in for the first time for an oil leak and issue with the air conditioning. Don was professional, honest and very thorough. He explained things in plain terms, was up front about repairs and cost he recommended, what was optional or not recommended. He did not recommend the more costly route. I've been having my cars serviced by Auto Tec for years - I've also passed along the recommendation to my neighbors and in-laws - all of whom have been incredibly happy with their service. They are fair, they cost less by far than what you would pay for at a dealer, they will let you know if there are other things that should (or shouldn't be done) and if there are any future issues that may need to be dealt with. They've also been incredibly helpful with saving us time by being flexible on when we pickup vehicles, or being flexible about checking out used cars. We now live in the foothills of the Sierra's and wait until we are back in the Bay Area to get the car serviced. In short, I'd trust this company with my family (and, since they are maintaining the car, I am actually trusting the company with my family). One of the worst mechanic experiences of my life. I took my car in for a coolant leak. For $1700 my water pump and a couple of hoses were replaced. After picking the car up it continued to leak exactly as it had before, no improvement. I call the shop and am told to bring the car in. They quote me $1085 to fix what they had misdiagnosed in the first place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I request to speak to a manager, and I get Matt who is the co-owner. We come to an agreement for the car to be fixed for $500 and I agree. However, once my car is in the shop and torn apart, Matt doesn't honor it[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. As if this wasn't enough, when I picked my car up, the check engine light was on. Took my Subaru to the dealership for an oil change and was told I needed control arms. Autotec confirmed they were worn but advised they were not at the point where replacing had to be done. I would really like to give a 5 star if possible since 1. the guy is really patient to explain what kind of problems would be with AC system 2. Kindly put air into my tire after i requested it But here are some reasons that I could not give 5 star 1. When mesaaged via Yelp, it was mentioned that the diagnosis would take $45 to $195, which is totally fine, but eventually the problem is still not figured out. They just recharged and told me good to go, and it was me that tested it out and had to drive back to tell them the AC was still kot working. I am not quite sure how they reached the conclusion that it was fixed and let me go? Also, after I pointed out AC still not working, they mentioned they had to do another diagnosis (but the cost would be covered or deducted if i fixed it there, which i appreciate), but this is totally different from what they messaged me on Yelp in the first place, which is to get diagosis and figure out the problem. If as they mentioned later that recharge is part of the diagosis, which is not guaranteed to be solving the AC problem and might need further diagosis even after the recharge, they should have explained well before operating on it and then i would just not go with recharge at all 2. Also, they forgot to put one bolt back after the recharge, and i had to drove another 20 miles back to get it fixed! Another thing is that I noticed that my check engine was on after the initial recharge, which turned out to be the issue of the bolt not on. After i drove back and they put the bolt back, check engine light was off. However, this scared me for a while... read more

My daughter came home from college with a 2006 Subaru Outback. I took it in for some TLC, which it needed after 186,000 miles. We asked for oil change, alignment, tune-up, and look at the brakes (and adjust the hand brake). After looking at the car, Auto-Tec judged the front struts to be marginal (rust) and suggested changing them, which we agreed to. We also agreed to a brake fluid flush. The new front struts were installed and the brake fluid was flushed. I think the oil was changed. However the tune up and alignment were not done at all. The handbrake was not adjusted. Worst of all, the brakes were not improved. I pointed out the brake problems when I picked it up and they said that maybe some more parts would have to be replaced. I don't think they had a clue. I find this performance unacceptable. You might find this shop to be ok for routine maintenance, but don't expect them to handle it otherwise. read more

Don and his team are always super helpful, reliable and honest. We've been bringing our Toyotas there for a few years. Toyota dealership maintenance said that my brakes needed to be urgently replaced, but Don's team said I could go another 5-10k miles and it was fine (esp in CA where it doesn't rain often), and we were only driving this car locally. We also bought a tow hitch and they helped us to attach to the undercarriage. Def will keep coming back to Auto Tec for our car maintenance needs. read more

After having such attention detailed service I decided I would just keep coming back. Now my family takes all their vehicles, even though we don't live very close. It's worth it knowing knowledgeable and attentive people are keeping an eye out for our cars. The mechanics are great. I feel confident they're looking out for me. They seem to want to give advice that's in the interest of the customer, and they always go above and beyond what you'd expect. Great communication and a smooth experience every time. This review is a little overdue but COVID-19 landed and I got distracted but it's important for me to write this review since I received such amazing service. I worked with Don Nguyen to have my brakes and rotars checked on March 13, 2020. As a woman I always am worried about getting ripped off at the mechanic but was pleasantly surprised that Don was very honest and candid about what my car needed and what it did not. He did not try to upsell me on stuff I didn't ask for and explained things to me in a way that I could easily understand. One of my tail lights was out and I asked him if he could just replace both lights since I figured that the other one would burn out soon as well. He let me know the LED lights are expensive and and it's not cost effective to replace one if not burned out. WOW! I've never had a mechanic be that honest with me and frank about what my car really needed. In the end I only needed a few things fixed on my car and it was turned around the same day and the price was very reasonable and lower than I had expected. I will definitely be back for all my car's future needs. You can trust these guys to give you fast friendly and honest service. read more
