Getting ready to take part in MTTS 2018... I noticed that, under hard acceleration, I was getting missing/surging above 4000 RPM in 4th-6 gears. I brought Fenton into ESP to see if we could improve the situation. The first thing they found was a leak in a gas vapor sensor passing raw gas out the electrical connector - fixed! The second was a confirmation of the power loss. They didn't find a cause after test drives, so they took the car to the local dealer - no problem found after extensive testing. Based on their experience, they swapped the coil and plugs. When they returned the car, the problem was solved, and I was grateful gas wasn't running around. For our just-out-of-warranty VW, I got a diagnosis from the dealer that called for an expensive DSG transmission repair and went to ESP for a second opinion. They kept the car for a couple of hours, ran diagnostics, took a transmission oil sample, and ultimately confirmed the dealer's diagnosis, but declined doing the repair, mainly because I as a customer would be better off with the more favorable VW dealer warranty despite the savings I would have with ESP. They generously shared their wealth of experience with these cars in general and the DSG in particular and gave valuable tips for dealing with VW in this matter. Rene is a horrible mechanic. He said he aligned my front end. The car shook and I had to get new tires within just a few thousand miles. These were new tires and that is why I had the car aligned. He seems to have no handle on the work and charges you as if he were a bonafide mechanic he totally took advantage and I would not recommend him. He does shoddy work, and you pay top dollar for it. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS GUY. read more

Rene is a horrible mechanic, don't service your car there! Quality: I serviced my aston martin 3 times at his shop. the first time, i had to return my car twice, because he called my car fixed, found and fixed the oil leak issue, but car was still misfiring. I recently had to do my oil change there. My car only ran 300miles till it started shaking in the middle of the road, and lost power. I called rene, he looked into it, and found the same oil leaking issue he had "fixed" just 10k miles before. I got suspicious why it happened again. I called both aston martin dealers in walnut creek and los gatos and consulted. Describing the exact oil leak issue, both told me the same thing: its a common issue, and happens most often when oil is over filled, which makes sense given i had done my oil change just 300miles ago. when discussed with rene, he denied all those claims, and said you have to overfill by a ton in order for this to happen. he took no responsibility, and blamed it on cracked hoses. When i visited him, he showed me a cracked hose and a sealant that was ripped, and said they got old, which cause the issue. I'm not sure whether he prepared those to prove his innocence, i don't want to accuse him for anything i can't prove, but either way, if those hoses were the cause for the leak, and not an overfill, it means he didn't fix the cause for the issue that happened just 10k miles ago. This being a common issue means it happens to maybe 1 out of every 10 or 20 aston martins. If this happened to every single or other one, there would've been a recall. On my car it happened twice, only 10k miles later, don't bs me saying its a "common issue", like I'm stupid! But thats the answer you get from a dishonest and cheap mechanic. Customer Service: My agreement with the shop since first visit was that i can order my own parts, and they do the labor. The first time everything went smooth. Wyman, who is no longer with them took care of telling me the part numbers i needed to order. This time i visited, the parts needed would have cost me $1,800, but ordering them straight from the UK manufacturer cost me $780 instead, big savings here. Wyman is no longer there, and the mechanic rene, after taking my car apart, seemed to have a big problem with me getting my own parts. He straight yelled at me on the phone saying he usually makes money on parts too, and with me, he only makes money on labor ...Ouch! dear rene, where are your customer service skills?!? You don't tell your customer this If you don't accept them bringing their own parts, please tell them up front, not after you take half their engine apart! Also, keep your voice down, you're a business owner! Rene promised to call me with part numbers, but didn't. When i called the shop in the evening to check i found out he wasn't even working on my car, but went to LA to work on another car. I was upset for waiting all day and not getting at least notified. It would have taken a 10sec text msg to inform me! He called me an hour later yelling at me for ordering my own parts, which had nothing to do with what i was upset about. I visited him at the shop, and asked him why i called, and he didn't even know why i was upset, because he didn't even listen, but raised his voice as soon as i asked him why he made me wait for nothing. At least he apologized when he acknowledged he was wrong, but very poor of him to not even listen when his customer is upset to understand WHY his customer is upset! The labor he charged me was over $1,200 on fixing his own failure, OUCH! including the parts HE wanted to buy, my total would've been $3,000. My aston martins dealer quoted me $2.8k for this issue incl parts and labor. meaning: if i didn't get my own parts, i would have saved nothing despite servicing it at a 3rd party shop vs an aston martin dealer. Clearly, rene is a rip off! He's lucky i don't sue him for all the expenses (labor AND parts) caused by his lack to fix my car. My time is just not worth it, but i though i do have time to share my experience with others so that people are aware of him. That was my last visit at ESP motors! There is plenty of 3rd party shops that service high end cars, but it may be worth paying that extra $$$ and visit the aston martin dealer to avoid such dishonest and cheap mechanics like rene. I definitely learned my lesson! read more

I had a great experience with Rene. My mercedes was hit in the back by a truck. I took the car to him based on a recommendation of a friend. From the moment I stepped in to his shop - I knew I was in good hands. He dealt with the insurance and told me not to worry. It was a pretty bad accident - And my mercedes had the electric trunk closer as well - which made the whole thing a little bit more expensive and complicated. Very impressive service and reasonable price! My BMW X5 has oil leaking problem, after estimation, dealer told me it will cost $1200 to replace two gaskets, plus 200 diagnose fee. I found ESP motors on Google, they estimate to change the gaskets at $450. More than that, they did second check on the engine area, found those gaskets are fine! It is a sensor broke and cause leaking. The total fix cost $360. You see the huge difference: if I had it "fixed" at dealer, not only I paid ridiculous price, but also not fix the real problem! Before the fix, the mechanic showed me where is the problem. After the fix, the mechanic showed me video they took, as proof it is working as expected now. No need to say, I won't go back to dealer from now on. I will bring my car to this shop, because they earned my trust. read more

So it's great to know you're getting dealership quality work without spending $200 an hour in labor. One time I dropped by to top up my oil, they always recommend and put Liqui Moly, Rene even refused to take money from me and this was before I become a loyal regular customer. My boy David took on a wrenching position here shortly after working on my MK4 VW R32 for the first time on a side job. I was stoked for him and the shop because they would be getting an experienced and enthusiastic guy that will grow to be a top mechanic. I decided to give them a try being that I needed some work done and it felt good to have someone I know performing the work. Upon getting to the the shop, I see VW's and Audis along with Mercedes and an Aston Martin...good sign! The owner Rene is a cool cat too and comes from a long history of VW's, Formula1 and just the euro scene in general. He's got a great attitude, knows his stuff and even let me borrow some wheel spacers after just meeting me for the first time. That's what I call good business. I have only required an oil change so far but Rene even offers tire service and gave me a great deal on some new rubber with mount and balance. Actually, my gf's car is there at the moment for a routine maintenance. I have zero complaints but a million thanks. ESP is where it's at! read more
