Edited 10/29/18 post owners comment:
The fact that the owner posted such a negative comment with regards to a real review shows how much they care about costumer service. Never did I mention that your seafood was not fresh. I stated that it wasn't appropriately prepared thereby it was fishy. I'm sure you rather have happy reviews by people who don't mind fishy food or people who simply don't know better. Instead of taking a comment and reviewing what went wrong, the owner replies in a rude condescending manner, and sugests that the costumer is unable to read and doesn't know how food needs to taste like. I have had a similar dishes in many places, and no where was each piece of fish smelling or fishy. I speak fluent Spanish, and I understand what I was served - no need to translate. I have travelled all over Spain, and had this this dish there as well. No where was the fish this fishy. Instead of taking a constructive criticism, you reacted in a negative way. P.s. I will change my review to one star as you suggested. Poor costumer service by the owner and badgering a costumer is no way to go. Good luck with finding lemon for your fish.
Original Review: I debated if I should leave a 1 or a 2 star review, and I gave it 2 stars because of the wonderful service we received, but they have the most terrible and smelly paella that we ever ate. I've been wanting to stop by this place for some time because of the great reviews. It is mind-boggling how people give this place 5 and 4 stars. I've had much better food that did not smell fishy in 3 star yelp places. Let me just say that ALL of the seafood smelled overwhelmingly fishy, and I don't understand how people can eat this. We ordered sardines, and they smelled and tasted fishy. They seemed closer to anchovies than sardines. The dish consisted of puff pastry covered with flavorless cream cheese toped with sardines. There were slices of tomatoes scattered all over the plate. We also ordered oxtail which was the only good dish. It seems that the meat is properly prepared and checked for quality in this establishment. The oxtail was inside of homemade pasta, and it was truly delicious. We also ordered tomato bread which wasn't anything to write home about. The bread wasn't toasted, so the tomatoes made the bread soggy. Now, the dim star of the show was the squid ink paella. As soon as the dish arrived to our table, we looked at each other and we just knew it was going to be terrible. I haven't had this experience in a long time. The true stench of fish was beyond compare. I've had paella in many places, some where good and some were great. What makes a great paella is properly prepared rice, and normal size seafood that does not smell or taste overwhelmingly fishy. Some places give you smaller seafood, and some places give you larger seafood. This place gave you a small amount of small and stinky seafood. We are not in the habit of sending food back. So, we tried to eat this thing. The rice was toped with a little slice of octopus, microscopical clams, and fishy white fish. Once you dug into the rice, you were met with calamari that was very fishy and salty. I ate two spoons of the huge paella that you can only order for two or more, and husband ate some as well. I kept asking him to send it back, but he was just too hungry. We left 2/3 of the dish. He latter admitted that he should have sent it back, but we are just not those type of people. We ordered dessert sampler which was good. However, people usually come to Spanish restaurants for the seafood, and this place really failed. Bottom line is that fishy tasting seafood is not normal, and I don't understand how the chef let it leave the kitchen. These dishes were not cheap, and I don't understand how seafood was not treated properly prior to being cooked and served. read more
