While out of town and having a craving for Mexican; I used my trusty Yelp and found this establishment. Again...Yelp did not let me down. This was a spectacular little find. The food was quick and quite good (I had the shrimp tacos or camarones de taco). They have a few beers on tap, but more in bottle (North American...US, Canada, and Mexico). Our server was prompt and professional. Now chalk the next up to my nerdiness, but the structure of the building was quite interesting. The outside looks like a small town building/business, but once inside it is very much a restaurant. But if you look at the walls and hallway (very wide), it made me wonder the history of building. Nothing bad or odd, but just a peek into my inner nerd-iness. But if you find yourself in the area craving Mexican, then stop by and enjoy the tastes, sights, and sounds. read more

We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. The pickled red onion garnish was the bomb. And the way it played off the carnitas was delicious. We were camping nearby, and, although we live within 50 miles, between my spouse and I, we've lived all over the USA and often lament the lack of good, authentic Mexican restaurants in the area..So we were eager to try El Bajio. The inside is spacious and they are doing what they can with a space that can use some updating. It's not fancy, but it's nice and appears clean. We're mostly vegetarian and were glad to see that there were several good options on the menu. It also helped that there is a full bar and a few sizes and types of margaritas to choose from, plus a nice selection of tequilas. The menu doesn't overwhelm with choices, as at some Mexican places, but it covers the essentials nicely. I ordered the enchiladas and my partner went with the chiles rellenos. Both were great! In his dish, the the chiles kicked up the spice factor some, compared to some I've had but were cooked well and coated in a tangy (not sour) and bright tomatillo-based salsa verde, which added nice brightness to the rather rich dish. Of the two dishes, I think I scored, really, due to the fantastic filling of spinach, tomato and onion -- perfectly cooked and balanced, not wet, not overcooked but full of balanced flavor -- and the delicious sauce that coated them -- it was guajillo sauce, we think? It tasted rich and creamy, as though it had simmered a while, and was just an unexpectedly elevated component and a nice departure from standard "ranchero" sauce typically served over enchiladas and made us feel they're doing something special. We also enjoyed the "poblano rice" on the side -- a very good accompaniment. Chips and salsa were fresh, service was warm and professional and prices very reasonable. Very attentive staff on a very busy day during the Women's March. The chicken soup was incredible. The guacamole salad had maybe 2 tbs of guacamole and the mushroom quesadilla had American cheese. White rice and canned refried beans. The 3 stars are for the soup. read more

Driving back to Syracuse from the outlet mall late one night and stopped by this place. We were there just about 20min before they were closing and the staff were welcoming and I'm so glad they were- great food. We had the molcajete especial, molcajete traditional and the churros. The molcajete were both loaded with flavor and fun to eat out of the stone pig. The churros were a last minute addition because we were so full from dinner and I'm so glad we got them. Do not go without getting churros. In fact drive there just for churros. Often. That is my new life plan. I would advise not sharing them if you can get away it. read more

No joke, this was one of my favorite meals during my 4 days spent in the Finger Lakes area. The place was almost completely deserted on a Saturday night, so I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. We split an order of the poblano molcajete and I also got a carnitas taco for myself because I'm a fatty. Molcajete is a Mexican-Spanish term meaning "mortar and pestle", and the dish itself was served inside a giant mortar. The poblano molcajete was reminiscent of a fajita, except served in a bowl instead of a pan. The food was delicious, and servings were yuuuuge. Definitely recommend! read more

We love Mexican food, and as vegetarians, we did not expect much from a Mexican restaurant in Seneca Falls, but it was surprisingly good! The restaurant was totally deserted on a holiday weekend, perhaps because we cane in late. The menu had a whole vegetarian section, so we decided to try it out. We ordered the chile rellenos and the veggie fajitas, with a margarita. The chips were fine, but they came with a watery bland salsa. Once we asked the waiter for the secret, spicy stuff, the meal was transformed. The back room salsa was thick and smoky. The chile rellenos, a bit watery and cheesy, were fresh and flavorful, and the fajitas platter plentiful, perhaps too plentiful. We asked to replace the tortillas with corn tortillas, also not on the menu. The margarita was sweet and boring, but then we saw that the restaurant has a huge selection of good tequilas in its brand new bar. Good vegetarian choices, flavorful, fresh, plentiful food, cheap. Located in Seneca falls, this restaurant is located in the heart of the town. Parking is plentiful on the streets and in the back there is a lot. The decor was okay, and the food was just that, okay. I got the Yolanda which was enchiladas with ranchero sauce. The meat was tender, but the sauce wasn't my favorite. It came with chips and salsa which were crispy and delicious. Stopped by for dinner on a Saturday night. We were seated promptly and service was very friendly without being intrusive. Chips and salsa were fine, though a bit more salsa would have been even better. I got the mole chicken enchiladas, which were outstanding. The mole sauce was complex and smoky, and no bitter after taste like some other mole sauces I've tried in other restaurants. My wife got the burrito deluxe, which was also very good. Truly the best restaurant in Seneca Falls, in my opinion. The staff is friendly, the portions are perfect, the prices are fair and the menu has plenty of options. They have more vegetarian options than most restaurants in this area, which is really refreshing. I get takeout from here quite often, and the service is just as fast as it is in the restaurant.
