Chimichanga
Erica I.

I didn't realize today was opening day! I wouldn't have known if I hadn't asked! We were greeted immediately and led to our seats. The restaurant is beautiful; it was worth the wait! There are all new booths and a beautiful fountain in the center of the restaurant! So cool! Beth was our server, she was excellent and very attentive. We got the Nachos Locos to start, they came out super fast and were great! I got the shredded beef chimichanga and my other half got the Santa Fe Burrito. Both were great and came out insanely fast; like faster than I expected, but it's better to get it faster than slower! We were stuffed, but next time we'll get the fried ice cream to finish! All in all it was a great experience, Auburn needs good Mexican fare and I'm excited Casa Azteca is here! I'll definitely be back! A few things to improve (and as you can see it didn't cost them stars because I consider this all minor): -the prices on the menu online vs. The printed menu are different. The printed menu is a 1-3 dollars more expensive for most items on the menu. Also the chimichanga is listed on the online a la carte menu but not on the printed one; someone should QC the two menus. -PLEASE be clear on what brand of "cola" you have; the menu says cola, I'm assuming it's actually Pepsi based on the taste, but when I order a Diet Coke and I'm not corrected, I totally assume it's a Diet Coke. -Speed is important for sure, but your kitchen is SO fast that it seems like they're cutting corners to prioritize speed, for example, I'd much rather have the lettuce on my nachos more shredded than giant chunks, and the lettuce on my plate was still wet (I appreciate washed lettuce, don't get me wrong), they totally had time to spin it dry. -finally, give patrons the option to type in a tip; the highest option was 25% and I would have loved to tip more because our server was absolutely fabulous!! Go check out Casa Azteca! You'll be glad you did!

Tacos al pastor

An impromptu date night landed my spouse and I here recently. At peak dinner hours on a Friday, we waited a half hour for our table. The ambiance is nice, decor is festive and colorful in a rather cavernous space. Bathrooms and restaurant are clean. The bar is large, pretty impressive. Since it's a large open space, it can become quite noisy. The service was excellent from all. Staff, our server Rodrigo was nice and efficient. We started with complimentary chips and salsa. At first I wasn't entirely sold on the salsa but as I ate more of it, it won me over, slight build up of heat was unexpected. I prefer a chunky salsa and while this was thin it was great on the food. I ordered the carnitas and my husband ordered the tacos al pastor. My go-to order at any Mexican restaurant is carnitas and I can confidently say that this is some of the best carnitas I've ever had, even when in Mexico. The chunks were so flavorful, crispy and huge! Leftovers were just as good. The tacos were spot on as well. Prices are more than reasonable, $15 for my entree. I highly recommend and most definitely will be back soon!

Roast & Toast - Espresso Martini from Roast & Toast

Roast & Toast

I was in Auburn and looking for a place to have a good cup of coffee. I pulled up Roast & Toast…read morewithout realizing it was Simple Roast's new shop. I am going to be honest, I have had coffee over the years from their standalone kiosks and have found most of their drinks to be overly sweet with barely a taste of coffee. I did have their regular coffee several times and it was good. I know they have a good following and this is just my preferrence to have flavor but still a good coffee taste. I walked in and noticed how clean and comfortable looking everything was. It's not huge inside but there's a decent amount of seating if you want to sit down and enjoy your coffee. I didn't realize they had food as well so I will definitely try some next visit. I asked the barista about any homemade syrups, because I like to find interesting flavors and some unusually delicious combinations. They have a full selection of bottled syrups but the barista pointed out that if there are homemade syrups they will be featured on the drink specials. I selected the special Matcha Latte with espresso, homemade fig syrup and homemade plum bitters.....WOW!! It hit every note for me. The employees were friendly and the barista who helped me... thank you for being patient with my questions. This lovely spot is also open in the evening for cocktails! I will definitely be back.

It can get rather cramped so take a peek in and make sure you'll have a spot to perch should you want to stop in for a drink! I've also been here during the day, you just have to go all the way down to the end to order a coffee. I've had mixed service experiences, mostly super attentive and friendly but one barista during the day wasn't the most customer friendly. I'd still gladly go back, the vibes are mostly great and I bet it's a nice spot to bring friends visiting!

As we turned the corner we saw a sign in front of A.T. Walley's for $5 burger and chips or 2 Hoffman Hots with chips. Well, the price was right! The guy was outside on the sidewalk grilling them and it smelled really good. So even though I was in the mood for wings, we decided to give the food here a try. We went in and got a table with no problem. Waitress said that along with the regular Wednesday night specials they also had $4 Beef on Weck for $4. We were really hungry so we ordered 2 Beef on Weck sandwiches and the hot dog special. It was amazing! The beef and au jus was fabulous! They each came with kettle chips and pickles. Yum!!!! And who does not love a Hoffman Hot, right?! Then we saw that they had 11 menu items for just $5 on Thursday nights from 4-10 pm. We had to be downtown again the next night so we went back! I got the grilled chicken Caesar Salad and he got the NYS Fair beef and Lamb Gyro. Once again, full portions for only $5! What a find!! We had always just gone there for drinks and music prior to this. They have a great bar selection and have $3 drinks on Monday nights....including their signature cocktails! It is a great place to go, have a drink, hang out with friends, listen to music on occasion and now I will be stopping in to check out more on their menu as well!

Our first meal while in the Finger Lakes was one I wish we had back. Stopped here with a…read morereservation on a Thursday night at 8:15. With them closing at 9pm we understood to get our order in before the kitchen closed. We were sat near the front bar area with one other table nearby. Our waiter, younger guy who told us he was heading to college took our drink orders - I ordered an old-fashioned. The old-fashioned was not. At all. Oh well. To start we ordered the crab Rangoon cheese sticks and the Birria quesadilla. The cheese sticks came with sweet and sour sauce. These were ok - but cool on the inside. A dash cooler than lukewarm. Don't know. The Birria? Never came before entree. As an entree I ordered the steak which I ordered medium and came with mixed veg and potatoes. Then things really started to unravel. Our waiter took the time to talk to the nearby table about his busy schedule, his sports and theater productions, for a good 10-12 minutes. Meanwhile we were still waiting on that second appetizer, needed a refill, and hopefully our entrees. The other waitress had to bring out our meals. The sides were flavorful and good - the steak that our waiter piped up about? Cold. Shocking given the roundtable discussion with only one table and the kitchen having only two things to prepare. Also, steak wasn't medium. We asked about the Birria which "never was put in" and given how poorly the steak was I said I wanted the item. Birria was good but the consume dipping sauce was just red like cough syrup. For dessert we got the peanut butter pie. It was ok. Overall I would like to say it was OK (3 stars) but with the spotty service, the mediocre food - I have to go 2/5

The place was totally empty, which is to expected at that time. Bar Argos is definitely a vibe. Think: antique chic with a touch of eccentric elegance. Ornate chairs, old-school lamps, and fancy mismatched furniture are scattered throughout, making you feel like you've wandered into a vintage movie set where cocktails play a leading role. There are multiple rooms, including one with a long table and huge windows that let the light spill in dramatically. I was lowkey stunned by how pretty it all was. Girlfriend and I shared the Clarified Lassi ($13), which is under the "Delightfully Unusual" section of their cocktail spectrum - right in between "Colloquial" and "What?!" It was fruity, creamy, and weird in a cool, sophisticated way. My Hotelie friend later explained in the car (upon mention of the drink) that clarified cocktails use a process where milk is added to a mixed drink and then curdled on purpose. The curds trap impurities, and when you strain them out, you're left with a crystal-clear drink that still has the creamy mouthfeel. Definitely checks out with the Clarified Lassi that we drank... Overall, the experience felt like stepping into a fancy secret. 10/10 would come back, undoubtedly!!
