Takeout thursday this week might be our first less than stellar pick. Guadalajara Mexican restaurant. Ordered the El Combo. Definetly comes with a lot of food for $22. The counter person made a comment about being too early even tho we were exactly on time for the pick up that we were given. The food was just ok. Not bad but did not blow us away either. Syracuse has multiple Mexican food options and I would likely explore them all before giving this place another shot. read more

I love Syracuse restaurant week!! What a delicious and reasonable meal we had for 15.00!! The place was packed at lunch time but our wait was not long. For lunch they offered 4 choices for entree, 2 for appetizers and 3 deserts. I chose the guacamole, arroz con pollo and flan. The guacamole was so fresh and delicious (served with crispy chips). The arroz con pollo was just the right amount of seasoning and loved the cheese on top. The flan was good but my friend got the churros and they were amazing. Another great meal here read more

We were driving through Syracuse when we needed to stop for lunch. As this got good reviews we stopped in -- and ordered tacos al pastor for him, arroz con pollo for me (tasty but too heavy with the cheese), and guacamole (fun take as it wasn't blended and felt very fresh) to share. It was definitely way too much food for 2 of us. Yet, the server was very nice and even offered a box. I'd say that adding salads or healthier fare to the menu would be a good option for those who want something less heavy. read more

Great food and service. Love the ambience especially the chairs and tables painted with Mexican inspired artwork. The only problem is that the air conditioning is too small for the room. I was there on a Saturday night around 6 PM and the place was full. It was so hot that some diners took their dishes Outdoors to eat at the outside tables. Huge portions and delicious food. I ordered shrimp fajitas and it had to come on to enormous platters to fit everything. Go on a cool night. read more

I visited this restaurant for the first time yesterday while searching for some authentic Mexican food in the Syracuse area. I came across it on Yelp and also had a friend recommend it--so I was excited to check it out. We both ordered the Texas fajitas. I asked for mine without steak, and they replaced it with extra chicken, which I appreciated. The fajitas came out sizzling on a hot skillet--definitely a nice presentation. However, the actual fajita mix (chicken, shrimp, peppers, onions) lacked flavor. It wasn't bad, just very under-seasoned. I had to add salt and pepper, which isn't ideal. That said, once I combined it with the lettuce, guac, sour cream (They give a little) , and refried beans, it tasted a bit better. Speaking of refried beans, mine were barely warm and pretty bland. They definitely could've used some seasoning too. I also ordered a medium-sized margarita called For the People, which was around $15. It was refreshing and tasty, but could've used a little more liquor. It felt more like a flavorful juice than a cocktail. The ambiance of the restaurant was great--very chill and relaxed, especially for a Tuesday evening. They had $2 Taco Tuesday specials, which is a cool deal, but I think it would be even better if they paired it with a drink special. I forgot to take a photo of the food for you all until mid meal my apologies. Customer service was A1--everyone was friendly and attentive, which I truly appreciated. A few things to note though: * They do charge a credit card fee, which I think is kind of corny. My business partner paid around $39 in cash, and I ended up paying about $42 (plus tip) just because I used a card. So definitely bring cash if you go. * There's no physical menu. You have to scan a QR code to see the menu, which can be inconvenient--especially for older guests or people who prefer not to be on their phones during dinner. * Parking is mostly street parking or a nearby paid lot. No dedicated restaurant parking. All in all, I'd give this place a 6/10. The vibe and service were great, and my drink was decent, but the food was just okay and the extra fees/QR code menu setup knocked a few points off for me. Would I come back? Maybe on a special or happy hour night--but I'd bring cash next time. read more

Stopped in on a Saturday at about 1:30. We were seated quickly and the restaurant had a decent amount of people- I was pretty happy with that because we ended up here after attempting 2 other restaurants with ungodly wait times. My main gripe with the place is they don't offer physical menus and have a 4% cash discount. Passing the bill for credit card fees to the consumer is a no-no for me. I also don't have a phone that can scan a QR code so I had to google the menu. Not fun. My partner and I both ordered variations on a steak quesadilla. We were both pleased with the speed the food arrived and the taste. I will say the steak portioning was a little skimpy for a 20 dollar quesadilla. Anyhow it was a decent lunch. Total was about 40 dollars- average by my estimation. I would eat here again, but I'm not going out of my way (just like in my last review). read more

Pedro Pascal recently said there is no good Mexican food in NYC, which may or may not be a hot take. I will hands down say there is no good Mexican food in Syracuse. Chips here are mid, salsa here is mid, everything else is mid to below average. And that's being generous and not adding authenticity into the mix. I've been on MULTIPLE occasions and always know I'm going to regret the money spent. My nail in the coffin and calling to truly never go there again was when downtown had a water main break (late January 2025) with almost every other business downtown closed. Somehow, Guadalajara is open! Seeing how I had no water and live right next to the place, all I can say is 'yuck.' read more

I finally got around to trying Guadalajara after hearing many good things. The outside doesn't look like anything fancy, but the interior is very cool. I ordered a perfect margarita and it really was perfect. The chips and salsa were good, with a hint of lime. We were the only ones there on a Friday night but our food came quick and waiter was super nice. Guadalajara is flat out a good restaurant. My buddy and I ventured out for dinner Friday, it was his first time my second. It's a very clean, friendly, stylish restaurant that offers a huge variety of dinner and drink choices. You're greeted by a friendly host, who quickly brings warm, homemade chips to the table along with a nice semi-spicy sauce. Knowing they have good guacamole, had to add that to the evening. It was terrific. There's a huge variety of margarita choices. They'll even make one that you can concoct yourself. You can get them frozen or straight. We both had one; the classic and a strawberry. One was rimmed with salt, the other with sugar. No complaints. Both of us enjoyed our entrées. Both were huge portions. The fajita nachos looked more shareable than for an individual but, was solely consumed. Lotta chips, lotta steak, cheese, lettuce, onions, and bell peppers. The fajita Loca too was a huge portion. Had to bring some of that back with me. I found this entrée option on the specials menu. It included steak, pork, chicken, chorizo, bell peppers, onions, and shrimp. It was a veritable potpourri of flavor with a slight spicy kick. On the side of that is lettuce, cheese, baked beans, and sour cream. Two for two dining this place, and having excellent food and a great experience. By the way, if you celebrate a birthday there, they really build it up with singing and sparklers. read more

Long overdue review. Computer has been down. Server, was Stephanie and she was very good & friendly. The restaurant is very large, bigger then you would expect. Pictures lost :( They start you with salsa & Chips, some of the I have had. Spouse enjoys Guacamole Azteca - Diced fresh avocado mixed with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeño peppers and lime and lucky for her they serve a small portion for $4.00. It was worth it and very good. I enjoyed their Primo Special - 12'' burrito filled with grilled chicken, chorizo, rice, and beans, topped with burrito sauce and cheese. However, for me it had a major salt taste. Spouse enjoyed their Enchiladas Verdes - Three chicken enchiladas topped with green avocado salsa and fresh mexican cheese. Served with rice and guacamole salad. Ordered their hot salsa at $4.00 thought it was hot sauce at no charge. It was OK but would not order again Mojitos the best. This is one of my favorite spots to eat downtown. I have never had a meal I didn't like here. I love the greenery they used to decorate and all the Latin American flags. The place is lively and vibrant inside with some great Latin music playing. My most recent visit the service was on point and super quick. I thoroughly enjoyed my enchiladas verdes. Hungry and eager, my friends and I stopped into Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant after a day of shopping. Never have I had a food experience quite like this. The chips were thick, but fine, and the salsa was lukewarm and watery. But, it was all tolerable until the tacos came out. The smiles on our hungry faces faded as we bit into the SALTIEST tacos we've ever had. While brown grease leaked onto our platters, we were completely and utterly shocked and dissatisfied. We called over our nice waiter and he seemed as disappointed as we did. We sent the salt-bombs back and asked for a new batch with high hopes. We should've kept our expectations low because I'm pretty sure they poured some extra salt and grease over our new tacos out of spite. We paid the bill, tipped our kind waiter, and left with NO BOXES. Don't bother going for the nice servers because you'll be left nauseous and dehydrated on the car ride home. But, they didn't char the tortillas, they taste stale too. The carne is really salty and dry. Lemons instead of limes, which is weird. Also, the rice is really really bland. What was really surprising was how good the Rice and Beans that come on the side were. I was told they are made in house and they were both very tasty. I visited for my second time. I got the enchiladas. The service was average. The cost was to be expected, however I wasn't impressed with the enchiladas. Their sauce was great, the shell however did not taste well, and seemed a bit too chewy. The setting was nice, the sound was average. I will return, I just won't try the enchiladas again I believe they use plantain for their shell and just wasn't for me. They also never returned to ask if we wanted another drink. read more

Mehhhhh just okay, our server was nice, starting with the scan menu which stays in place apparently as your placemat, it has pictures for some things not others and very very vague descriptions for the vegetarian section. They did not have flavored margaritas per our server or unsweetened iced tea. I had a house margarita and it was again mid not great not awful. I ordered the flautas and my husband the quesadillas vegetarian only because they only have refried pinto beans no black beans offered with any options. We ordered queso for the table tiny salsa holder it comes in this was good however . My daughter had the vegetarian bean, cheese and tostada burrito combo she only ate the bean one the rest were not so good. I'm submitting this review specifically to address an issue. The restaurant management did not honor its promise to SavAround, a coupon book that I purchased through work. I chose this restaurant because I found it in the book. At the restaurant after ordering I was informed by staff that management would not honor the coupons. The waitress told us that she regularly informs customers that management doesn't honor the coupons. I contacted SavAround about it and was informed that they were aware of this issue as others have contacted them about this specific issue. SavAround explained that they couldn't do anything about Guadalalara management's decision to not honor their promise to them and that they would not be included in the next year's book. The food and service were fine- no complaints. It appears to be that the restaurant's management is looking for free advertisement and to not honor its side of the deal. Please be aware. read more

I've been here a bunch of times, the food is just ok. Had a horrible dining experience last night. Waited almost 20 minutes for the waitress to come over to our table. She brought out the complimentary chips and salsa and didn't bring out any drinks (not even water). Another 10 mins goes by and I had to flag her down for our drinks. We also ordered guacamole that she never brought out and we had to flag down 2 other employees to bring it out (20 mins later). Our food took about 30 mins to arrive. I was dining with 2 other people and their entrees came out but mine didn't. After another 15 minutes, they bring out my plate but it was the wrong entree. We spoke to the manager and another colleague but no one did anything to fix the situation. After being there over an hour and a half and not getting any of the correct food, we were starving and walked out. I really loved my visit here and their food was fantastic. I just had to be honest about my own situation and it's that I'm not a huge fan of large crowds and this place can get really busy. So I couldnt really give a perfect score because for me personally, it would be dishonest. I really like the decor and the entire layout on the inside. The outside doesnt scream the theme to me.
