I finally tried out XO TACO a few weeks back, and it made me happy. The room is really beautiful, while still feeling sort of casual. I love the plug-in lighting, spread out all around the ceiling, and the bright colors. I sat at the bar and had a beer and a couple of tacos. Service was quick and fairly friendly. They had some decent beers on tap (I had a sour which was pretty good). The taco selection looked pretty good. My street taco with pork was just pork with some gravy in a taco (plus some veggies), but it hit the spot. Similarly, my chorizo taco (I asked for it mild, and I don't know if they toned it down or it's just CNY spicy) was pretty solid, with plenty of meat, enough cheese and slaw, and an overall good taste. Neither of these tasted like SoCal or NorCal tacos, but there are a lot of different tacos out there from a lot of different places, and I don't want to get started on authenticity. I absolutely love this place. The vibes are always great upon walking in and even when it is busy I get sat immediately. Sitting at the bar is great too! I always always always go for the kids burrito and add chicken and I have leftovers every time, the portions are great. The only downside is it is so so EXPENSIVE! I visited XO Tacos last night for Taco Tuesday, and the overall vibe was definitely A1. They offer great Taco Tuesday specials: $1 off tacos. Margaritas are half off, bringing them to just $6! They have a variety of margarita flavors, and let me tell you--they did not miss. Super flavorful and refreshing. When we arrived, we were told there would be a 45-minute wait. However, we hung out near the bar, and someone gave me their seat. Eventually, other people began to offer their seats as well. I honestly don't even know if we waited the full 45 minutes--being that we were talking and just enjoying the vibe, time seemed to go by much quicker. You can order your food at the bar, but we chose to sit at a table to have a little more room. The atmosphere is dimly lit, cozy, and full of good energy. People were friendly, and the staff--bartenders, waitresses, everyone--seemed genuinely happy and in great spirits. Definitely a good vibe all around. Now let's get into the tacos. One thing I love is that they give you the option of a soft tortilla, corn tortilla, or a lettuce wrap. The lettuce wrap is such a great option for anyone eating low-carb, doing keto, or just looking for something lighter. I've never been to a taco spot that offered that, so it stood out to me in the best way. I tried three tacos: * Curry Cauliflower (lettuce wrap) * Lobster (lettuce wrap) * Fish taco (soft tortilla) The creativity was top-tier--lobster and curry cauliflower aren't your typical tacos, and I appreciated that the lobster was real and the cauliflower was fresh. They also offer about four different hot sauce options, which were actually really good and helped add a kick. That said, I do feel like the tacos lacked flavor overall. I would possibly try these flavors again, just dress them up a little more with regular taco toppings like sour cream, shredded cheese, or a little extra sauce to really bring it all together. And for the record-- I weighed myself the next day and I was down 2 pounds. So I just might have cracked the code: tequila and lettuce wrap tacos might be the real fitness plan. The tacos are delicious, however per a taco they're pretty expensive. Definitely a unique dining experience to order tacos. They are delivered on one tray, you check which tacos you prefer. When delivered you have to personally distribute who ordered white taco to their tray. They also don't provide chips and salsa at the table while you're waiting with the cocktail. And no sides come with tacos like rice or beans. Portion sizes aren't huge especially for the price. But the food is delicious. read more

We tried all the sauces, I loved the jalapeño packed some serious heat and flavor! I upped the anti to habanero, and holy hotness! I didn't dare go up to the Ghost pepper level! Menu has good number of vegetarian and vegan options. The place is not very big but has a nice ambiance and decor. I was a bit iffy about trying the tacos because another review said they lacked flavor but I had the black bean and the cauliflower tacos and they were very tasty. I sat at the bar, the place wasn't very busy yet so service was quick and attentive. After about half hour, things got pretty busy, but service kept up. For drinks, I had a house margarita on the rocks, a corona with lime, and a frozen margarita (I was thirsty). It was a celebration for my son's birthday. I was unaware of this restaurant, but my son chose it, and I went along with it. His girlfriend, her son and my grandson were pleasantly surprised by this unique taco restaurant. The food was out of this world. Very fresh, which is a change from the chain taco restaurants. I'd say we had a 3.5 star experience here tonight. They won't seat you until your full party arrives which is not an unusual policy, but there is virtually no parking and it took our friends a while to find a spot, leading to us having to wait for a table even tho I had been there for 10 minutes already. Once we were seated, no servers came to the table for long enough that we had to flag someone down and ask what was going on. They have great mocktail options, and the 2 flavored margaritas we got were VERY tequila heavy. The tacos were definitely tasty but are overpriced, in my opinion. The decor is vibey and trendy which was a fun ambiance for girl's night, but between the price, the service, and the fact that our waitress, though very friendly, never offered refills on our drinks and we had to track her down to start just brought the evening down. I'm going to check out some more local taco shops before coming back here. And I definitely won't be back until the snow melts and parking is less of a nightmare. read more

Great time here at XO Taco. I was staying at the Crowne Plaza right around the corner. I noticed XO on google maps and it had great and consistent reviews, so I decided to take a short walk. I was surprised to see that at 8pm on a Tuesday (Taco Tuesday) night, the place was packed! All of the outside tables and most of the inside tables were occupied. The environment was very live and trendy. Lovely decor. Neat, clean and modern. I was taken to an open table. There is a QR code that you can scan to view the menu which has tacos, burritos, chicken tenders and a bunch of other items. If you want to order tacos, you will be given is little checklist where you can check of the types and quantities of tacos you want. There is also a full bar there and they serve a variety of beers, wines, mixed drinks and margaritas. I ordered a few different tacos ($5-6 each) and a beer ($4-6). The wait for food wasn't long...about 10-15 minutes...not bad given how busy they were. The tacos were delicious. They also have some tasty sauces on each table with various heat intensities. All staff I encountered, including my server, were friendly, patient and helpful. Super positive environment. I would love to return when I am in town again to try some other items. read more

Met a friend here for lunch. Neither of us has been before. We decided to split the Lobster Roll-ito. We also got the Rose-Verde Chips (tortilla chips with two different salsas). The chips and salsa were good, but not worth $6.00. In addition, the burrito came with chips, so we should have skipped the chips and salsa. The Lobster Roll-ito ($18.00) was good and splitting it in two was the right decisions. At the price, splitting it can be a good financial decision. Looking at our bill, we were charged $2.50 for a Diet Coke, which neither of us had. I wonder if that was $2.50 for the bottle of water on the table? Our total was $26.50+ tax and tip. That's $13.25/person. Depending on your wallet, that may not be something you'd want to spend frequently for lunch. I tried 4 tacos and the chips with guac. The chips were crisp and salty. The guac was a good version without too much onion. I liked the tacos in this order: chicken, lobster, carne asda, black bean. The first 3 were on flour tortillas while the black bean was a masa tortilla. All had great accompanying aiolis or sauces. My only star downgrade is that the price was a bit steep compared to other gourmet taco shops. Offering handmade tortillas, specialty cocktails, fresh pepper-salsas and hot-red neon lips, XOs goal is to pay homage to traditional Mexican food with their own modern twist. One of XOs owners also owns the local fried chicken tender company SoFly, which also operates from XOs location. I originally tried XO for the SoFly tenders. They were putting them in what they called their Howlito burrito. I love chicken tenders, especially fresh, hand breaded ones, so I ordered one of the daily special burritos when they were just trying them out to guage interest in SoFly. The burrito was good. I wasn't in love with it, as I wasn't a big fan of the ginger pickles. I found them to be overpowering, but the tenders themselves were good as was their special SoFly sauce. SoFly officially began selling chicken out of XO recently, and being in the mood for some tendeez, I decided to order. My wife and I both decided to also try something from XO, so I went with the baja steak burrito while the wife chose the boom-bang shrimp burrito, and we got 10 SoFly tenders. You can get the SoFly tenders plain or what they call "dunked" in a sauce they describe as Nashville hot sauce with an Asian twist. We went with dunked, cause we love all the sauces. Everything was very good. The burritos were a decent size, and half a burrito with a couple tenders was enough for a meal. I loved the tenders. Fresh, nicely breaded, and the dunk sauce was great. I think the Asian twist is just ginger, as that seems to be SoFlys thing is a lot of ginger, but it was delicious. I ordered and everything was ready when I got there, when they said it would be. Its a nice, modernly punkish type decorated place, but small, probably a dozen tables. Prices are decent. Employees were nice enough, but it was pretty busy when I walked in. One issue I have, which you can see the photo of, is the $2 "take out fee" that was added to my order. Now, I understand restaurants have had a rough year, and it's only $2, but these made up BS fees very much turn me off as a customer, especially as one that already tips even on take out orders. These are the same tactics 3rd party delivery apps like GrubHub use to squeeze a couple extra dollars out of you with things like their "Onondaga County fee" type fees, and it rubs me the wrong way, especially when they don't even make any mention anywhere on their website or anything that there's a fee for take out, and just add it onto your order. I absolutely loved the tenders, but the shady business practices with hidden fees and already expensive prices they charge may have turned me away as a customer. read more

Arrived for dinner here and two of our party of six were running late. We were told that we had to wait to sit down until our whole party was there. While I thought it was a bit strange that we couldn't be seated (given the restaurant was practically empty except the bar) I thought it was whatever. Until other people started being sat with members missing from their parties and then those missing members arrived later. Seemed weird how a standard was held to my group but not other ones. Also while waiting for us to be sat, I attempted to order a drink from the bar and was completely ignored. The bartender seemed to be in his own world. Guess they didn't want the business! When our two party members arrived we were promptly sat and the service from that point was pretty good. Food was alright, although they did mess up our order. Ordered vegetarian nachos and nachos with pork and chicken; we received nachos with chicken and nachos with pork. It was ordered out of just preference, but if someone had allergies or other reasons for not eating meat, this would have been a different situation. Personally, I ordered the Birria Beef Quesadilla. The quesadilla was great but me and my girlfriend felt that the dip was too salty. Overall, not the best dining experience but in the end, I did eventually get what I wanted out of it.
