Possibly the best mechanic in Colorado! I actually took my Jeep here, thinking that something might be wrong with the steering, and the head mechanic took it for a drive around the block, came back and told me nothing was wrong with it. They have never charged me for a consultation, and they are always honest. Cannot recommend this place highly enough! read more

These guys are awesome! I've brought my car here a few times for a few general repairs, one of which was not typical. They are good with cars and have the ingenuity to fix random things that fall off of your car, tires full of mud, etc. Prices are right as well. read more

Jekyll and Hyde - Last year, after reading many positive reviews, I decided to take my car in for some work. I had $1400 worth of repairs done. Dave seemed like a nice guy and I was pleased with the quality of the work. I thought I had found a mechanic I could use for years. Last week I had a tire blow out while driving down the highway. The tread flew off forcefully enough that it pulled the left side of the front bumper off. It also pulled a bundle of wires down from the wheel well and stripped the cover off parts of the bundle. I called a tow truck and then called Dave. I explained what happened and asked if I could have it towed to his shop to check things out and make sure nothing else was damaged. He said no problem; he'd take a look at it. That was Dr. Jekyll. Later the next day I called and asked if they'd had a chance to look at my car. Dave's attitude was incredibly rude. This was Mr. Hyde. He claimed he had no idea what needed to be done to the car. I explained again what happened with the blowout and the concern with damage to the bumper and wires. After a minute of back and forth with Dave, I suggested I have the car towed somewhere else if he couldn't do the work. His attitude softened somewhat. We agreed at the very least he would put the spare tire on. When I arrived to pick it up the next day, the tire had been changed and the wire bundle had been zip tied back up in the wheel well. The bumper and license plate were still hanging. I paid my bill and then had to ask him if he could secure the bumper. He zip tied it and I was on my way. I found out later from a mechanic at Discount Tire that the wiring for the left turn signal was unplugged. He took care of it for me. I can't explain the night and day difference between my two experiences. Needless to say, I'm looking for a new mechanic. read more

I found Dave and his crew via Yelp, what a lucky find! My boyfriend had been having car trouble for a few weeks and was clearly getting the run around from the mechanic he was going to. After the total was up to $1000, I hoped on Yelp and found Dave. Boyfriend took the car the next day. Dave drove around in the car with him waiting until the issues started to happen, after they did, he took the car back to the shop and investigated, walking boyfriend through every step. When he was done, he told him that the damage would set him back at least $3000 and it might not even fix all the issues (talk about honest!!). He didn't charge boyfriend for any of the work AND let him keep his car at the shop til he found someone to buy it - he said up to a few MONTHS would be okay - no charge! Weeks later we brought in the replacement car to get checked out by Dave. After a few routine issues were discovered, boyfriend left the car at the shop for the day and took a bus home. When the car was ready, Dave came and PICKED BOYFRIEND UP from our HOUSE and took him back to the shop to get the car. We will NEVER use another mechanic again! read more

Dave and the guys are honest and helpful. I've been going to them for about 3 years now and refer everyone I know. They don't charge for the little things (coolant top-off, a nut or bolt here and there, etc.), and their rates are totally fair for the big things. Dishonest. I was told that an oil change for my car was $40. After I paid, I saw that their sign quoted $35 for 4 quarts oil and $40 for 5 quarts. My car uses 3.5 quarts. I'm all for supporting local businesses but ripping people off is not cool. read more

As luck would have it my car broke down as I was heading down 8th Ave and I was able to coast my car into their lot. Everyone at the shop was incredibly helpful. They helped me trouble shoot what was happening with my car until AAA showed up. I would highly recommend going here as everyone was very knowledgable and helpful. read more

I recently bought my first car, an '86 Cutless Ciera. I have expected it to have problems, its an old car. I have been dreading taking it to a mechanic because of all the stigmas I've heard of mechanics ripping people off. So when my check engine light went on I was horrified at what it would cost me. I pulled into the Eighth Ave Conoco and the guy working came outside to check it out. He said it looked like a tube had popped and told me to come in the next day to have it fixed. The next day I decided to shop around. I took it into the Downing st. Garage and told them about the tube. They said they would have to keep it a couple of days and run a diagnostic which was $145. Seemed like a bit much for a tube. I then went back to the Eighth Ave Conoco, were running a diagnostic cost half as much...... The boys deemed running a diagnostic unnecessary and in the end I spent a whole fifteen bucks to make that pesty little check engine light disappear. A few weeks later my blinker went out and they fixed that only charging me for the part... I trust my mechanic!!!! crazy, huh? read more

Helpful, smart, fair. Thanks! I am from out of town and was visiting my mother for a brief 2 days--my truck began to start only intermittently, then not at all. A friend of mom's recommended these guys and, although they were very busy, Justin and team came through. Day 1, they thought it was the clutch/starter switch and replaced that. Justin said it might also be the starter itself, but it looked like I got off the hook. However, after getting it back home, it again did not start. So Day 2, I got it back in and they got the new starter installed. Fingers crossed now, as I drive back home to Durango tomorrow. However, the communication and problem-solving convinces me Justin and team know what they're doing, even if other issues arise. (And I don't think they will). He also cut half an hour labor off the final bill due to all the complications. Appreciate that. The acid test will be tomorrow driving 6 hours over a bunch of mountain passes, but these guys were good to work with--especially for an out-of-towner who didn't know where to turn for a good and fair mechanic. read more

Well I took my car in for an oil change. It's still there because they didn't leave my keys in it. I asked them to leave the keys in it while I took the fob so I could unlock it. Since I couldn't be back by noon when they closed and then I would have my keys. The guy said ok! I got one call/voicemail when it was done. I was at an event and missed the call. I got there and searched my car there are no keys inside of it. The keys to my house are also on the ring so now I'm without a car and can't get into my house. I called the place and their number listed for after hours. I left a voicemail and kept calling the after hours number but eventually it started going straight to voicemail so maybe whoever has that phone turned it off and/or is ignoring me?! I have to work tonight and I have to work Monday morning before they open. I only have the clothes I'm wearing and now I have to find a place to stay. The guy was short and barely talked to me. All this trouble for a freaking oil change! I'll never return here! read more

This is my favorite car repair place in Denver. I find they are always honest, quick and their prices are very reasonable. They remind me of the small town neighborhood places from growing up. Once they even came over to my house (as I lived nearby) and fixed my flat tire for free. I pretty much had to throw the money at the guy to take it. They are great, honest, hard working guys. They are fair, honest and so nice (several time I though I needed work they told me I did not need yet and even let me know what I can go with out to save money) . I usual drop the car off and walk to my house but one time it started snowing they came and picked me up so I did not have to walk in the sow with my baby and they have even helped me put the stroller in my car. I've been going to Dave and his crew at Eighth Avenue Conoco ever since a friend recommended him to me when I was an undergraduate many years ago. On so many occasions, I've received quotes from other garages and dealerships, only to have Dave's do better work at far less the quoted cost of other garages. In fact, a couple of months ago, I went down there with a 'funny knocking sound' coming from my car. Dave's guys just knocked my heat shield back into place and didn't charge me a dime (and also didn't make me feel stupid, which I appreciated). They could easily have fabricated the need for some unnecessary repair, but they once again showed how honest and reliable they are.
