it's cold outside and blowy and the door doesn't close without a lot of help which makes today especially rough because it's cold and blowy outside... got seated out of the breeze plus coffee, iced water, a menu and a little time to figure out what's important in life. despite the headlines and hoopla about country fried steak I turned my attention to the hash and eggs and subbed a biscuit for the standard toast options. a plate comes out kinda quick; smaller than anticipated but pretty well full-up: home fries on the end looking brown and very smart with "bits" but lacking a depth of flavour so more like 'breakfast potatoes'. eggs up are done well, set whites and totally liquidy yolks begging for a blast of whatever hot pepper sauce they use here. it's food science people, use more if it's got flavor, less if it's bottled heat. fine ground hash looks vended but less greasy and tastes like somebody put some effort into it so I'm a little conflicted here. forks good but I like to see bits and bigger bits :-\ ...and a biscuit. a little doughy and no scorch? air-bake pans can do that too. thinking I should've maybe took a seat at the counter and asked for an egg poached on grits plus a skirt steak on the side but this is barely about breakfast to start with... read more

I went to have my car serviced and wanted something really good, somewhere new and haven't tired before. My husband had to go to work, but he suggested this establishment. He heard good reviews so i figured he knows me well, so why not. As soon as I went in, I was greeted and seated. The menu looked great but I was stuck between 2 items. The waitress encouraged me to get both and even substituted my pancakes. Everything tasted great and it took no time for me to receive my order. The Caramel Apple Crisp Pancakes were amazing, even though I should have asked for syrup, it was great without it. I also tried the Coastal Crab Cake Benny with grits and I was full right after. The ambience reminded me of home, everyone appeared to talk with everyone, it wasn't loud, the waiters and waitresses were speaking to customers like they knew them for years. The food really needs work. I was the only other person in there and my omelet was stone-cold. The eggs themselves were really thin and overcooked. I asked for my muffins well toasted and basically got a raw English muffin. The waitress brought my meal but didn't check that my coffee was already gone. I had to ask as she walked away to no other customers! Overall the aesthetics were like a brightly lit cafeteria with music so loud you couldn't even hear the waitress. With the other really good breakfast places around this one will not be getting my business. I couldn't even get a receipt because they were out of paper. I have been to this location multiple times and never had an issue. This time I went in on a Tuesday at 9am - I asked for unsweetened iced tea, my waitress brought sweet tea. I asked for an egg white omelette, she brought me a regular omelette. No big deal, all things that could be fixed if I asked but it takes a lot for me to complain (even though there was literally only one other table in the restaurant at the time). What got to me was when it was time to pay, I handed her a $50 bill for a $20 check, and she just looked at me and said "oh I don't have change". I said "last time I was here, I was told there was a small discount for paying with cash, but now you can't accept cash?" And she just said "no, normally you can pay with cash, but I personally don't have change on me"... What? Why would the restaurant offer a discount on cash payments if they don't have a cash drawer to give change? I thought that was really bizarre. read more

She wouldn't send it back, although we did complain to the waitress. I ordered classic eggs Benedict with home fries. The entire plate had a heavy dose of, what I think was zatar seasoning. Wanted to try a new place. The restaurant was clean. The service was slow. The food took forever. Not just ours but also the tables around us. They would not come around and top off the coffees. Our coffees were iced cold while waiting for our food. If you're going to make people wait, the bare minimum you could do is provide warm up's. The food was actually pretty good. The American fries were probably the best I've had in the area. The next thing that really put me over the edge is the waitress coming to our table, when I'm in the middle of eating my food that took forever. And proclaiming she is going home and could we pay our bill now. ‍ Not just our table, but several others. I probably won't be back, because I have closer options. Service was great... even brought me new fries when the original plated fries came seasoned (wasn't mentioned in the menu). Their fry oil needs to be cleaned/replaced... a little rancid. We have attempted this place two separate times. The first time, they were sold out of almost everything and we didn't even bother staying because we had maybe 4 choices for breakfast. The second time, we walked in, and sat down at a soaking wet table that still had syrup all over it by the wall. The hostess brought napkins and allowed me to wipe it the water off myself while we waited, but nothing for the sticky syrup. We were told "she'll be right with you" then after about 5 minutes, a group of 4 or 5 came in the door, sat two tables behind us and were greeted by a server almost immediately. They laughed and chuckled with the server for a minute or two and then immediately after, the server was bringing them drinks. We still hadn't been spoken to. We waited a couple more minutes, in case we had a different server, and were never approached. We left ...again. We won't be returning. Save your money. read more

I was surprised that this location was almost empty when I ate there. I eat all the time at locations in the SC Upstate area and they are always packed with a line to get in. I have to agree with the negative reviews regarding service; the manager sat at the counter on his cellphone for 5 minutes prior to our waitress addressing our needs. He barely spoke then was back to his phone. There is obviously a disconnect with customer service at this location. And, it's in a horrible location to begin with (parking, etc). Having stated, this, once our waitress got to us, she was awesome. The food is always excellent but yes, it's pricey. I give up. Several months ago, I went to this location for Sunday brunch. I sat there for 20 minutes without getting my order taken. I left $2 on the table for my drink and walked out frustrated and swore I wouldn't be back. There aren't many breakfast spots in Cornelius anymore and I like breakfast, so I decided to go back yesterday. The restuarant was maybe 1/2 full. It was 1:00. I was seated and brought my diet coke. TWENTY-FIVE minutes after arriving, they still hadn't taken my order. So once again, I left $2 on the table for my drink and left. Only this time, I will NOT be back. It wasn't a fluke. I have been going to this diner for about 3 months, and until now, I liked the food and service. Today, I ordered a take-out order. I sat at the front counter and a young woman waited on me and took my order - I paid for the food at the same time. What I didn't know until too late, is that this woman's hygiene was disgusting. It was so bad I will skip specific gross details (but it was really BAD). I got my order, left the diner, and threw the $20+ order away on the way home...no way I could eat it and not get sick. BTW, before I left, I told one of the other waitresses what I saw but I don't believe she did anything. I did not see a manager or I would have had a discussion. I decided to try it again by myself on a Tuesday morning about 6 mos later. I sat near the wall by the bar. I ordered a bacon cheddar omelette with grits & toast. Server was very nice and overall attentive, the food however was not so great on first visit. I tried the Baja Chicken Omelette with a side of breakfast potatoes. The omelette tasted just ok and the eggs were quite runny. The chicken also seemed to be of very poor quality. I could not even eat the breakfast potatoes! I don't know what spice it is that they are topped with, but I could smell it before I even tried one and as soon as I put one in my mouth, I said nope! Not a hot spice, just incredibly strong. My mom just ordered scrambled eggs and bacon. She also said that her eggs were very runny, however the bacon was pretty good. The interior is cute inside and has a happy vibe, and I'd be willing to give the restaurant another try in couple months knowing that it just opened recently. read more

Then in June of 2024 we arrived at 11:00 for our usual Sunday brunch and found a sign outside saying the restaurant was closed for the day. I HATE complainers and am not one of them but after this morning I consider this more of a public service. We go to this restaurant maybe once a week and always noticed that the staff changes constantly, but the breakfast was pretty simple, so it was ok. This morning, though, took the prize for worst experience ever. The restaurant was not full. Took our waitress a while to get to us and she took our drink order; my husband asked for water and I asked for half and half tea- I got a glass of tea with about 2" of sugar in the bottom; I said 'what's that?' and the waitress didn't say a word, just picked it up and left...after a few minutes she brought me a big glass of hot, very sweet tea with no ice. I asked for a glass of ice which took 10 minutes. weird. My husband ordered an almost $10 cheese omelette- it literally came on a plate alone; for real it was 1/4" thick with no cheese. The grits were watery, uncooked....we asked to see a manager. He came out and said "obviously that's not a good omelette and I knew there was something wrong with the grits but have made more". When the 'new' omelette came it was exactly the same size but with a ton of shredded cheese...it was ridiculous. We felt like we were getting punked! NEVER got the grits. I was getting angry although my husband never lost his temper he told the waitress "I can't eat this- we need our check". The waitress was like "ok" like no big deal...Was anything reduced, offered, anything? So now in addition to terrible service I can't even recommend the food. sadly...this place had great potential but every single time something was amiss (although we never complained until today) I ONLY gave one star because I couldn't give zero. Another person waiting asked to be seated and at least get coffee and was told "that's not our policy". Reason given was that the kitchen was backed up. We left.
