I have tried this place three times. Here are my three experiences... 1. Loud and drunk people on a Friday night. I walked in and walked out. 2. I entered on a Tuesday afternoon and it was relatively empty. Staff just looked at me like: "Who the hell is this guy?" I left. 3. Last night, which was a Wednesday. It was very odd because the light crowd made it feel like a VFW yet there was a bouncer at the door. Huh? Any place that has a bouncer is probably bad news if you just want to chill. I chose to roll with it anyway and when I asked the bartender if they had a drink menu, she placed a small sign in front of me with a QR Code for the menu. This shouldn't be a big deal but this is why I left. I don't go somewhere to have to use my phone. If I want a beer (or wine), I'm there to relax, not work. I was also in a dark corner of the bar, where it's like being trapped in a corner. Btw, there was a drunk guy singing in the bathroom. When at Kickback Jacks all the way in Mooresville, two people mentioned this place to me and how great it was. So, I think this is a "It's me, not you" situation. The place should make sense in theory--it should be enjoyable when you look at it. In reality, it's a no for me. I'll stick to my favorite haunts (and find a new place to add so I have 3.5). All that said, I still might pop in one more time during the day to confirm I don't like it. This review is subjective. Objectively, you might love it. For me, I have tried three times and have never felt an ounce of warmth from the atmosphere or anyone. You gotta feel good walking into a place. If you don't, then no matter how good it looks, it's not your place. read more

The food is good. Fabulous fried pickles. I love the tavern atmosphere and the outdoor seating is great. New to LKN and this has become one of our "Go To" spots. TVs everywhere. read more

The Galway Hooker may be gone but the large patio remains. TVs, drinks, pub food - it's here. On a Friday evening the patio was a good spot for several families while inside people were watching football and baseball while enjoying their beverages. Typical sports bar food with burgers, wings, sandwiches, and some entrees.The Pimp burger was solid though the pimento cheese, bacon, and onion ring was a not quite to my liking. I may need to check out the inside during a game but if you're looking for a patio where you can enjoy a meal or a beverage stop by Ed's. read more

Agree with many of the posts. It stated ok when it converted from Galway but as time went on service and atmosphere is horrible. They literally have run out of beer when I tired to order 3 different beers. The staff was not friendly that time. The we tried again because we did have 2 good prior experiences. Then they decided to BLAST the music. Couldn't even hear a conversation. We left. Tried again a week ago and the same. The bar had a few loud and drunk guys and the music was blaring again. We sat and said ...no more chances. This place had opportunity. Wrong crowd and bad service. We won't be going back. 3 good experiences then the last 3 months of very bad. read more

Wow! We were in the neighborhood & thought we'd give this place a try. But noone acknowledged us for 5 minutes at the hostess station before we just gave up & left. There were a few tables open, so it wasn't crazy busy for 5:30 on a Saturday. But! I did observe that it's you standard loud sports bar. Will I be back? Not on your life! read more

This is the old Galway Hooker location, and they opened in probably early December. Still feels with Galway Hooker minus the Irish Fishing Boat suspended from the ceiling. Over the years, we went to Galway Hooker many times including reserving the upstairs room for my wife's 50th Birthday but in the end, it was getting a little dated. The original Ed's Tavern is in Dilworth (Charlotte neighborhood) and it is still there. Consistently get great reviews although I will admit, I have not had a chance to try it. Suggested this place for lunch on Friday but my wife wanted to go to Midtown Sundries in Denver instead but suggested we go on Saturday. We got there around 11:30am and it is very much like the old Galway Hooker. It was a cold (27F) day and we were seated at a high top by the fireplace. As I remember, Galway was not very pleasant in the winter because of so much glass and the place was always cold Still the same. Very cold and even the servers were wearing coats. Pretty good menu with an extensive list of appetizers and burgers. My wife asked about a Chocolate Martini, and they did not have the ingredients for it but someone in the bar suggested a work around of Vanilla Vodka with Bailey's. My wife tried it and loved it and even asked for a second glass which for her is unusual. For her lunch, she ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Rolls (think of a Spring Roll cut diagonally) and Mac and Cheese. Again, she loved it. Being such a cold day, I asked how spicy the Chili was. Our server did not know and said since she had had very few comments on the Chili, she assumed it was probably not very spicy. She did add that they could always "kick it up a notch" and add Jalapeños to it. I ordered that along with a Grilled Cheese Sandwich which was offered as an accompanist on the menu. The Chili with the added Jalapenos was a hit and very good. A lot of room for improvement on the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. In general, the food was good, ambience needed work and the most. outstanding thing about the restaurant is the service. Staff bent over backwards to meet our needs. If they did not have something, they found creative work arounds like my wife's drink and adding Jalapeños to the Chili. This attention to the customers' needs goes a long way. read more

3.5 stars, rounding up. I tried Ed's Tavern one afternoon for lunch with some friends. The interior is much brighter than Galway Hooker, but it has also lost some of its charm. The owners did keep the fireplace, as well as the stained glass on the doors heading out to the patio, however. It was kind of dead inside, with just a few other tables filled. I'm not much of a bar food person, but I was impressed with the food from Ed's. (I've never been to their Charlotte location.) They offer their full menu, plus two daily $10 specials for lunch. We started with an order of onion rings for the table, which were crispy and very good. I had the ham and cheese lunch special (with my choice of pimento cheese) and a cup of their daily soup, the tomato bisque. Chili is also an option, if you prefer. The ham and cheese sandwich was nicely grilled and buttery. Their pimento cheese was especially good. It was primarily cream cheese-based--rather than mayonnaise--and was nicely warmed. The ham was also not the usual deli ham. It was sliced from a ham, so the pieces were thicker but yet very tender. The soup was rich, creamy, and delicious. One friend also got the ham and cheese special, and another got the Nashville hot chicken breast sandwich with a side of cucumbers. Another got the other daily special, the Peruvian chicken (tender) bake. Everyone enjoyed their food. Our server was attentive, but it did take longer than expected to get our meals, so the kitchen might have been understaffed. That was a little surprising, given how few tables were filled. Regardless, we enjoyed our lunch, and I'll likely return. Lunch is an especially good deal, especially if you get one of their specials. read more

I've been to Ed's a few times before and both the food and service were good. However, tonight's experience was terrible. Another patron not only had a dog at the bar, it also was eating off their plate. Definitely a health code violation. This was not only unacceptable behavior from the asshole patron, it was also unacceptable for the service staff not to have insisted they remove the pet. As far as food and service went, it wasn't much better. Had our server put forth any less effort I would have thought she was asleep. My burger might as well have been a hockey puck as much as it was cooked. The tots were overcooked as well. The only bright spot was the security guy saw that we had dirty plates and removed them. He was friendly and attentive, even though it certainly wasn't his job. I won't be back. read more

Date Night Go To!! We loved this place the food was awesome. Fried pickles were crispy and came with homemade ranch. Chicken tenders seemed homemade, hand breaded, and seasoned perfectly. Sweet potato fries had good crunch. We started out inside but the music was too loud so we asked to be moved outside. We know its a bar but it seems more of a social place to meet friends and family. I believe the volume of the music for sure could have been less. It has a nice outdoor seating area so if it is warm enough sitting outside is the way to go. read more

Ed's is our "go to" spot! we love walking into a neighborhood place where they know our drink and food orders without even having to ask. My daughter loves that they give her a big bucket of chalk to draw with on the patio outside. Miranda always takes very good care of us! Our favorite menu items are the grilled chicken nachos, the cali chicken sandwich, and the popcorn chicken. read more

Stopped by on our way to South Carolina since we used to enjoy the Galway Hooker. Ed's is definitely a step down from the friendly Irish pub that used to be here. The outdoor patio is very nice if you would like to enjoy a beverage, but the food is sub par. Our burgers were cooked well done, even thought ordered medium-rare. Looked like they were pre-cooked and just re-heated. Fries and tater tots were also below average. Still a nice place to enjoy a drink and maybe some bar apps outside, but otherwise, there are much better burgers available nearby. read more

We are really excited to have an Ed's Tavern in our neck of the woods. I always love their wings and today we stopped in to their new location in Huntersville. The food was awesome, we just ordered an appetizer sampler which had all the hits: wings, boneless wings, cheese sticks, and two types of eggrolls. All of the choices were delicious. I also ordered a beer and they had 20 different choices on tap, so pretty good selection. We were there on Saturday afternoon and they had tons of TVs and sports on as well. This might be a good place to go and watch football or basketball this winter. The service was good, there were only two waitresses and one bartender that we could see for the whole restaurant, so they seemed a bit understaffed. They have only been opened for a week, so I am sure they are gauging their occupancy to see how they need to staff. The inside was nice and had an Ed's vibe. Although the brick wall is fake, it's a nice touch. The outside patio looks pretty awesome and we can't wait to go back when the weather is a bit nicer. I would recommend this place is you are looking for a sports bar vibe by the lake. read more

Ed's tavern is great! Hole in the wall in Cornelius. Basically it's really good bar food! The fried pickles were okay but the fresh homemade blue cheese and ranch dominated. The wings were amazing. Loved the garlic parm considering they put fresh shaved Parmesan on it. My wife got the lemon pepper wrap which was full of flavor. Overall great and for a quick bite with good drinks! read more

Was hoping the vibe would be less like Galway and more like the Ed's in CLT. To the contrary, it is very basic, and blah. In fact, Galway was nicer. With all the time it took to open I was expecting it to be more appealing. Poor acoustics as well, which is not relaxing. There is still time for this blank slate to make improvements. Hopefully, the owners will bring this space into the 2020's and add some ambience. read more

The food was good and the service was good but I did not see anything that would make me want to come back . The food they offer I can get anywhere It was near lunch time and it was not busy. I've been here a couple of times. The food is decently priced, there are lots of options, and the serving size it good. The service can be slow, but I've only been when watching sports, so it didn't bother me much. There are plenty of tv screens and live music some nights. read more
