Quiet Thursday morning to find anywhere to sit. Waitress was super nice and not too chatty; which I like. I can't stand a chatty waiter/waitress. She refilled our drinks as needed. I had the Perfect Team ($6.99) of hashbrowns (crispy throughout every bite -yum), eggs (scrambled as I requested), toast, and sausage. It was a big portion and I didn't finish them. This is one of my favorite neighborhood spots! Friendly and fast service without making you feel rushed. Delicious diner style food served in generous portions with reasonable prices. My go to breakfast is the Egg House Favorite: eggs, sausage, onions, and green peppers over hash browns covered in hollandaise... So Good!! We were staying in the area and was looking for a nice little café and came across this on here so gave it a shot! The environment wasn't the greatest but it serves it's purpose for a small café. The menu had a nice selection for breakfast and lunch items and the prices were very reasonable. The service was not the greatest but was fair (did not check in on us much after food was delivered and refills on water did not happen enough with our group). The food portions and taste were very good and was certainly the best part of the experience. Overall it is definitely a stop worth making and you're sure to walk away happy and full. read more

Bring back Eggies Cafe! They have upgraded the tiny space, but have downgraded the food. Went on friday morning and was less busy then I thought being a Bank Holiday. Maybe 3 other tables upon arrival and 5 when we left @ 9:30 I had the sausage over hashbrowns with eggs and toast. Was loaded with sausage and had decent flavor. My girlfriend had ham and cheese omelete which had the cheese on top of the eggs and was shredded cheddar which didnt melt! The food was hot and the cheese still didnt melt, invest in a cheese melter! Service was slow and the napkins were the 5 X 5 one's youd see at a backyard BBQ. The check was presented on the actual old server pads with a different diners name on them. Its not hard to make a decent breakfast but this place sure misses! read more

My husband and I were looking for a local place for breakfast and came upon the Egg House Cafe about a year ago. Oh my gosh...they serve delicious food and are happy to make meals to order (my husband doesn't like garlic and onion and they are always happy to leave those things out of any meal he's ordered). When we went today, I decided to order my first meal off of the lunch menu (Egg House Cafe closes at 2:00). I had the club sandwich and it was fantastic...fresh red tomatoes, wonderful turkey and plenty of crisp bacon! I don't know this for sure, but the french fries I ordered appeared to be twice fried! They were really, really good! Now my only dilemma for the next time? Whether to order breakfast (their french toast and Hollandaise sauce are marvelous) or lunch!! read more

It's located on the west end of a crummy little strip mall in Crystal, but don't let looks dissuade you from coming in for a great meal at a fair price. The interior is pretty typical of a small town diner with booths along one side and a bank of stools providing counter seats. The decor is minimal and a welcome relief from cluttered cafes of similar style. The waitress welcomed us with a friendly smile and was attentive without hovering. We never had to even look over our shoulders and she was there to top off the mug. I went with the Egg House Favorite, which is two eggs as you wish over hash browns with sautéed pork sausage, peppers, onions, all smothered with cheese, and a side of toast to boot! The flavor was fantastic and the platter was enormous--a bargain at $7.99! I look forward to checking out some other items on my next visit, which is certain to be sooner than later. I especially liked that the clientele was nearly all older blue collar looking folks and not a bunch of smug hipsters on their phones the whole time. Bonus. P.S. I took my 7 year old daughter for breakfast. One of our morning rituals. The coffee was endless and quickly served. She loved the pancakes. I got the French Toast, which was decent. The one thing that could be improved is the syrup....a bit less sweet and a bit more rich. The service was pretty good throughout. read more

My wife and I are on a life-long search for great breakfasts, so we thought based on some other reviews that we'd give the Egg House Cafe a try. It's located close to where my wife grew up, but has changed owners multiple times over the years and even closed for a few years. The current owner has done a very nice job of rearranging the kitchen to the rear of the store (as required by the City of Crystal), and the counter seats that we chose were very comfortable. We were excited when we arrived as the place was nearly full, and there was lots of energy evident from the staff. Unfortunately, the food was just so-so, not anywhere up to our expectations from what we had read. We both had pancakes, mine with blueberries, plus my wife added hash browns and bacon. Her sides were better than the cakes, but not fantastic, and the pancakes were fluffy and not particularly memorable. In fact, they reminded us of the microwave type, just larger. Not to sound like food elitists, which we are not, the coffee and tea (very cheap tasteless brand), were eh! Drinkable, but again, nothing to rave about. On the plus side: the restaurant is very, very, clean, the service was top-notch, and the staff very friendly. I guess you also get what you pay for, and the pricing was very reasonable.....just 70 cents to add blueberries to the pancakes. I'm not quite sure how a tea bag is $1.99 and coffee $1.75, but we didn't go for the caffeine. Doubtful that we will return as our search for thin, crispy edge pancakes continues. read more

Egg House is definitely a "hole in the wall" type cafe. My wife and I have been meaning to try it out for breakfast and decided to do it. I was hoping it would be charming and inviting, with solid breakfast selections, after all, they only serve b-fast & lunch. First, the place is extremely dirty and run down, I'm not talking about the kind of dirt that happens during a busy rush, I am talking years of filth that never gets cleaned up. There was food from prior patrons all over the condiment bottles, and the menus were disgustingly dirty. OK, so we still ordered hoping the food would redeem the experience. I ordered a Hollandais skillet, and the wife ordered pancakes. The skillet was hot and the portions very generous, but the flavor was so-so. The pancakes, well, we are pretty sure they come from a premade mix, and were dry and flavorless. We like to support local, non-chain restaurants, but sadly, I have to say we will not go back, and would not recommend it to anyone else. read more

This is not the same as the old Eggies. Not by a long shot. The food was O.K., except that I chose the 'roast beef hash'. It was just terrible. I could have looked past that but when I mentioned that fact to the waitress, she mentioned that she wouldn't eat it either - That isn't what I wanted to hear. I wanted to hear that she was going to pass that information on to somebody else or take some action. Instead she went back to talking to the 'other customer' that was sitting at the bar. He was obviously more important than anybody else. I used to take my family to eggies about once per week. This place I have tried twice now, pretty much the same experience both times. I'm a doctor at North Memorial and whenever I get a lunch break I make my way over here since this restaurant opened up. I tried the old location (Eggie's Cafe) and was not a fan. Egg House is remodeled and clean, the food is better, and the service is excellent. The best part about it, its fast and perfect for my short lunch breaks. Boy, the others have had different experiences than I had the two times I was in there. You might want to try it if you set your standards low but I wouldn't change my plans from alternatives. First time in there, there were 2 other tables occupied. Yesterday, one at the counter and one other in a booth besides me. Not impressive. This is located where "Eggie's" used to be. They repainted and changed some things around - some for the good, some for the bad. It's been painted and cleaned up. The food prep area is no longer up front where you can watch them make your food. The kitchen is now in the very back of the building, out of sight. Cash register is also in the back and everyone has to walk to the rear of the building to pay your tab. Menu is a pretty standard breakfast/lunch operation which this place continues. Seems to have a pretty good variety of menu items. Menus were clean both times, tables were cleaned and pretty well stocked with condiments. Cleanliness was good. I've eaten there twice this week. The decaf coffee tasted good but service was severely lacking both times. Sunday the waitress was more interested in sitting down and talking to some friends who came in than to take care of the couple other customers in there. Today I believe it was an owner who was serving (well, occasionally). Both days trying to get a refill on coffee was a chore. Even with few people, the wait people were in a big rush to get away from people both times. Trying to get a glass of water took flagging them down both days. Extra napkins don't seem to be available. Plan everything you want so you can catch them at once or they seem to disappear. Once you get your food you don't see the wait staff much. Yesterday she was not in the restaurant area for 15 minutes straight. Had to wait to try to get the check and pay. If service doesn't improve dramatically they'll be hard pressed to survive. Food is OK but nothing special. Gone are the special fried potatoes for which Eggie's was famous (and sold something like 870 tons or more). Hash browns are average and pretty ordinary although the shreds were a bit thicker than often seen. Had they been hot, they probably would have been very good but lukewarm hash browns (both times) don't get any applause. Although they were cooked nicely the food seems to be only warm, not hot. Eggs were eggs and nothing special. Bacon was pretty good quality and good taste. Again would have been nice had they been hot. Cooked nicely crisp today, but not so last time. Sausage has a different and very unusual (well seasoned but not overpowering) taste but don't compare to the sausage links Eggie's used. (Those were delicious!) These have a strange seasoning. Curry perhaps? Ordinary toast - nothing special there and I think it's margarine used on them. I think combining lackluster and less than caring service with food probably sitting and waiting to be served and the long distance from the prep area to the tables, eat fast if you want to get throuh your food before it's cold. Staff isn't very talkative but that's OK if the food and service are good. Other customers are generally chatty and mention Eggie's. They have a good sized flat screen TV on the wall and both days was on channel 9. Sound was not obnoxiously loud either. Yesterday they offered the remote to the fellow at the counter. It's a small place and I like to see good local places thrive. As I understand the owner lives in Chaska. They do seem to keep a number of pots of coffee ready so you wouldn't have to wait for it if they would get on the ball and serve it or use some carafes and you could help yourself. Maybe you just need head behind the counter and help yourself. Sadly, they have nothing on Perkin's or Denny's. DW's is down the road and far better service, and food too for that matter. For this place to survive without some changes will require the Eggie's customers to lower their standards a lot. They have the basics, now they need to learn to run a restaurant. Needless to say I was rather disappointed. I had hopes it would be Eggie's again or at least in the same or close caliber and it's not. Apparently they've been open about 6 months now so the kinks should be worked out you would think. Doesn't look too promising. It won't be a regular stop of mine but I might check in now and then and see if they improve. read more

Everything I look for in a morning breakfast experience, I found here. Parking was convenient. I was greeted with a smile and warmth by Rhonda, the owner. The place is clean and bright, but cozy and comfortable in atmosphere. Other pluses include bottomless cup of hot, tasty coffee and well-prepared breakfast diner cuisine. I had bacon and sausage with eggs over medium. I'm a stickler about how my eggs are prepared, and they were just as I like them. My pancakes were thick and full of flavor. I would definitely recommend Egg House Cafe for a delicious meal and an overall pleasant experience. read more
