The vibes are 11/10, but I didn't enjoy the coffee enough to justify making a trip to try it. I guess if you're getting a haircut next door, it makes perfect sense to move next door for a caffeine fix and chill on one of their couches. Especially since the cafe is music themed with cute coasters inspired by vinyls and the cafe itself is the ambiance of an old school studio. Service is relaxed and friendly and the drinks came out nice and pretty. My Brown Sugar Banana Latte which I got cold tasted very faintly of banana and more of brown sugar which was a little disappointing, but my partner's sweet potato latte was very enjoyable served hot. Both drinks were on the sweeter side which is fine but not my preference. Would I go back? Probably not, but I can see someone who enjoys their coffee sweet to go out of their way to Get Down Coffee. read more

Love everything about The Get Down! The art, the music w/ the music videos playing on the tv, the overall vibe AND the coffee is really good! It is on the smaller side. Probably not the ideal hang out spots for groups but more so 2-3 ppl max group. Seating is tight but always able to find somewhere to sit. The Brown Sugar Banana Latte is my favorite, I almost always get that. I have tried the Blueberry Hill Iced Tea as well, which was good. I visited mid-day in a crush of about 30 bike riders, and the barristas handled it like absolute pros. The drinks kept coming out and the line kept moving. They also sold baked goods (absolutely giant croissants and huge slabs of rotating banana/zucchini bread). I ordered the Brown Sugar Banana latte, hold the whipp, iced. It was a really nicely balanced drink. The banana flavor wasn't fake and it wasn't too sweet. The decor inside is music-themed, with plenty of seats inside and an outdoor seating area. We were in the area after picking up donuts from the Thirsty Whale and were in need of coffee. This place has throwback vibes with coasters that look like CD's and some merch that looks like stereos. Quite place to work which we did see a few people doing. Staff was friendly and service was fairly quick - there was 2 people working the register and making drinks in tandem. We tried the banana cream latte and the sweet potato latte. The sweet potato latte was good but there was just a hint of the sweet potato. The banana cream tasted like a regular latte with whipped cream and some Nilla wafers on top. The wafers were a downfall in my opinion because the pieces that were crumbled ended up getting soggy and it was a very off putting texture. Coffees are always good. Sweet Potato is probably my fave? Is it odd that it's basically inside a salon, sure. Is the vibe cool, also yes. I drive 15 minutes here and back just to come here and get some coffee. The store itself is fun and I enjoy the vibes. Sometimes they have a live DJ going and it's a fun twist! On a quest to try new coffee spots we ventured to The Get Down on a recent Saturday morning. We arrived around 11 and parked across the street in the grocer lot. Note that the coffee shop doesn't have any designated parking but street parking or grabbing a spot across the street in the lot seem to be pretty easy. Upon entering, we were somewhat surprised at how small the space was. There was one small seating area for two, a communal couch area and a communal table area, as well as three seats at the coffee bar. With only seven or eight people in there all of the seating spots seemed full and our group of three quickly determined we had to get our drinks to go. As we were waiting another four or five groups of singles or couples, came in to get coffee as well so it can get busy. Our coffee was served fairly quickly. The only downside was that they ran out of whip cream for one of our drinks. We got their specialty drinks. The sweet potato drink was tasty (4/5) the banana drink lacked strong banana flavor (3/5) and the strawberry drink was a favorite for my daughter (5/5). Customer service was good and patient as we made our decisions. They also explained the different pastries, which were all huge and look delicious, but we opted to not pick up any this trip. We grabbed a coffee and headed out and then we're happy to see you. There were a few tables outside. Even though we're fully in Fall, the sun was out and so we were able to grab a spot and sit for a few minutes while we enjoyed our drinks before venturing on. Overall, I liked the concept and liked the space, just wish it was larger. The drinks were good, although seem to be a slightly higher price point than other comparable, coffee shops. Real lovely experience. Good variety of coffee, tea, and even some items in cooler (kambucha, water, juice). I got a coffee with vanilla, and my boyfriend... one with caramel. Neither flavor was strong in our drinks but they were still good. We got monkey bread with caramel and pecans....it was huge and I think worth the price. However I do wish they had smaller sizes. A variety of seating, but dont be surprised if you're situated close to strangers (ie at communal table). Know that its a cashless business, and finding parking is pretty easy. We love to see a new black owned and operated business pop up! This is exactly what North Minneapolis needs! I've been tracking this coffee shop since last summer and I'm very excited they opened a store front! The coffee was delicious, the staff was friendly and welcoming, AND they even gave me a doggy treat for my pup in the car. I also really liked the atmosphere of the store. Plenty of room to sit and read or work and the art/ambiance is pleasant. There's also an "incest in our future" spotlight! Finally getting around to trying this place and absolutely LOVE IT!!! We walked in and right from the jump loved the vibe. There was jazz music playing, everyone seemed pretty chill, the decor was on trend, and the shop was very clean. I had the cheese croissant and the Cashmere Thoughts Caramel Latte! They were sooo good! My friend said "the caffeine is chronic and the croissants are iconic." My friend is vegan and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable about what contained dairy. Very affordably priced for the area! They have a little pickup order cart RIGHT inside the entrance. I walked straight past it before I realized that's where my coffee was. The chai was very spiced, but had the sweetness to balance it out. The Sweet Potato was subtle. Also have to mention how cute their coffee sleeves are designed! So aesthetically pleasing! Today's #coffeeshopstop highlight is the new and retro @thegetdowncoffeeco in the Camden area of North Minneapolis! They've only been open 7 months and their momentum has only grown. It's accessible, has strong WiFi, the parking on the street is easy and the coffee is strong! What used to be a coffee counter that was apart of the adjacent hair salon, has now branches out in to its own space within four walls. I ordered the Cashmere Thoughts Caramel latte, iced, with oat milk! However, after posting about this place in my stories I heard that the sweet potato latte is everything to write home about so next time that will be my drink! THE BIG IDEA: In any neighborhood, The Get Down Coffee Company would be considered a "gem." But in North Minneapolis's Camdentown neighborhood, it's so much more. Its dynamo founder, Houston White, brings together excellent creative coffee drinks; giant, locally-made pastries; a unique atmosphere and an admirable mission. Years of neglect from city leadership, developers and many Twin Citians haven't deterred Houston from putting down roots. DRINKS: The coffee is the real star of the show here, with clever names like "Vanilla Nice Nice Baby Latte" and "Bounce To The Ounce Mocha" (both of which are my regulars and never disappoint). Prices are below average for the Twin Cities. Specialty drinks start at $5 pre-tax. FOOD: Carrying a small (but mighty) assortment of massive pastries, including croissants, banana bread and pull-aparts. While on the higher price (around $6), these pastries are some of the largest I've seen sold in the Twin Cities. The Brick House Banana Bread ($6) and the Chocolate Pull Apart ($6.50) are both exceptional. The banana bread is topped with rolled oats and walnuts and the pull apart is flakey and decadent with large portions of chocolate. ATMOSPHERE: Housed in the same building as the Houston White barbershop, the shop is quaint and features bar, table and lounge-like seating. Every visit I make I immediately notice the great music and upbeat attitude of the workers immediately walking in. In addition to their locally-roasted coffee bags, you'll find a small apparel selection and even local dairy milk housed in glass jars. SERVICE: I'm a regular here and every time I visit, the baristas are kind, knowledgable and laid back. If you're one who likes to regularly try a new drink or food item, this is the place to do it. They'll give you personal recommendations every time. This is my neighborhood spot. I do have options for coffee in my neighborhood, so it's not a default to praise and enjoy what is my only option. The employees are wonderful. All of them. The manager runs a lovely shop. She knows how to treat a customer and make them feel like they are wanted and appreciated. Her employees see that and follow suit. I can't say I have tried all their drinks; I like what I like and I don't stray much. Most of the employees know my order. There isn't a variance in quality. They all really know how to communicate what they are creating and what expectations customers should experience with their orders. I come back because of that. I come back because of the food options. I come back to support my community and those who make a difference in our community. I couldn't recommend this spot more. Fun coffee flavor remixes without losing the flavor of coffee and without the toothache! I was feeling fancy and decided to try a specialty coffee instead of just a reg latte. The banana cream got my attention, but it also felt at risk of being too sweet. It was perfect just the right amount of banana to accent the smooth coffee roast. A good morning pick me up with Vibes! Came to The get down coffee shop located conveniently in the Camden neighborhood of North Minneapolis for a Saturday morning caffeine pull. The interior decor is well done as well as providing ample comfortable seating for a quick laptop session. Ordered the vanilla latte with oat milk and the what's going on Chai Tea latte. Both were well done with the Chai Tea latte being a little bit more sweet for my taste but delicious nonetheless. We will be back. read more
