Great local breakfast and lunch spot. It's on the first floor of an office building and it's not fancy but they have tasty food and friendly service.

I happened to be in the St. Paul area running errands this morning. I hadn't had breakfast and happened to be starving when I looked up nearby restaurants and found "The Egg & I". I was in a hurry and hoped it would be quick and easy. I walked in and they sat me down right away and took my coffee order and brought me water. I ordered the sausage and egg sandwich right away after they brought my drinks. The food came out not 5 minutes later. The sandwich was served on a bagel with a thick slice of melted cheddar cheese. This is akin to a breakfast sandwich you can get at McDonalds except much, much better. The sausage was savory and juicy, the scrambled egg was cooked just right where it was done well, yet soft and fluffy. I put my card on the table and the waitress scooped it up and closed me out, I wasn't even there for 15 minutes and my meal cost me less than $12 between the coffee and generous-sized sandwich. Overall I am very pleased with this establishment and enjoyed the food as well as the exceptional service, well done!

Consistent good quality food. Convenient hours and location. Twenty-ish minutes from the airport. The staff is friendly and they support their community.

Standard, reasonably priced diner in St. Paul. Went during the Holidays and it was very busy. Great service and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Really nothing fancy, simple decor and tables, but nothing bad to say either. I ordered an omelet which was solid and came with a few pieces of buttered toast. I'm sure The Egg & I has a lot of regulars. I wouldn't necessarily say it is a must stop if you are in the area, but if you need a good breakfast fix and a menu that has plenty of options, it will serve you well!

We came here on our religious holiday which means breakfast places throughout the Twin Cities tend to get very busy. The Egg and I is located in an office building near the U of M. Thankfully, the Egg and I was not outrageously busy and for a party of nine we were seated pretty quickly. It was standard breakfast food and lunch options too. Food was decent especially if you're hungry. Prices are good, portions are large, and staff were friendly. The place is a bit dated but I kind of like it since it reminds me of dinners from the 80s and 90s. I'd go again if in the area.

The BEST French Toast! Rest of our breakfast was delicious as well. Service was great and we were able to get seated very quickly on a Sunday morning. Place was packed! Ambiance isn't anything special but who cares because they make the most awesome French toast!!! Pancakes were tasty as well and the scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly. Forgot to order my bacon crispy - my only regret of this meal. Will definitely be returning.

I have passed by this restaurant for years and always wondered about it. Personally, I wondered when the opportunity would present itself for me to dine here since it's convenient to get to but not in a popular location. I felt like the restaurant was pretty old school. I ordered the TWO EGGS WITH AMERICAN cheese scrambled with HASHBROWNS and Cornbeef hash. Plus, a vanilla latte. I actually was surprised at the my bill total. I guess breakfast food can become pricey. Although I was pleased overall, I did feel like the toast had a fishy after taste. I am not sure what caused this but guessing something got mixed into the butter that was spread on the bread or maybe the surface the bread was toasted on may have had some old residue.

The Egg and I is a local brunch restaurant. Lots of elderly people come here and the vibes are very "traditional". My friend and I each ordered two refs with American potatoes or hashbrowns ($11.95). A choice of meat costs an additional $3. The waiters really took care of us and made sure there were no nuts in our food since my friend has a severe nut allergy. She was very nice and welcoming! Overall rating: 10/10

This was our first time here. My son said, "I wish I could use the cinnamon roll as a pillow. It's so soft!" Everything tasted homemade and was delicious. We'll definitely be back!

Third time eating here in about five year; I'm from Out of town. Great breakfast place and serves all kind of clientele so you know it's good. The menu looks Like regular fair, be everything from the coffee to the French toast is just a little bit better, IMHO. Hardworking efficient and friendly staff. Coffee and waters were filled regularly. We had burger, French toast, pancakes, and a few thing. All seems to have just a little extra touch. My oatmeal camE with the extra fixing I had orders but they didn't skimp. Everything here was good with my family. So I'd like to Come back when I'm in town next.

It was a TEAM effort and it showed. Service was outstanding. My wife ordered the Salmon Sofia. Not sure what that is exactly and I don't care. It's salmon. To me, it's gonna taste bad no matter how great you prepare it but she said she loved it and would definitely get it again. I had the Italian Pasta if I remember correctly. I was really grateful for that experience. Honestly, the entire visit--from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out--was top-notch. For food and drinks, I ordered a Moscow Mule, the Meatloaf Wellington, and the lobster with cauliflower cheese. It was my first time trying a Wellington, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but unfortunately it just wasn't for me. The lobster, however, was a definite hit--I ate every bit of it! I have to wonder if maybe they should just stick to the basics though. I had the sirloin (vs. the pork chops at the recommendation of the server). It was a big hunk of sirloin. Could have been a bit more seasoned but it was generally ok. The baked potato was pretty hard/waxy (vs fluffy). The vegetable side was some kind of peas/succotash which looked awful, but was quite tasty. The problem is I literally was served only enough for 2 bites of it. The kitchen really should have been embarrassed sending it out. A couple table mates had the prime rib special. I'm not sure how 'done' they ordered it, but both came out looking gray and even fattier than most prime rib. Looked pretty awful. My husband had the New York Strip and said it was fine but that the "house au gratin" potatoes were nothing special. If I came back I'd probably stick to a burger (hand cut fries!) and have steak elsewhere.
