He also had one of the biggest selections of inventory on hand. If you need a part he probably has it and won't need to order it so you can get back out on your bike ASAP.

First stop was Trek Bicycle on Westwood Street. No stocks available, and they seemed too busy to answer questions. Hmm...that kinda layback and hipster attitude seemed far too familiar as I'm in the coffee business for 20+ years. Then we rushed over to Kinetik Cycles. Sales person seemed way too passive, and when we were shown a couple choices (my goddaughter needs a small or an extra-small frame), not much help was given about the seat height adjustments. I understand that the Kona we first tried was built a certain way where the seat stem was way too long for a small frame. The minimum seat height was so tall that it defeated the purpose of calling it "size small". We asked how we could make it possible to accommodate the height so my goddaughter could do a proper test ride. (Of course I know of a solution...just find a shorter seat stem and substitute it for a few minutes worth of test ride)...Nothing from the sales person, just a shrug of the shoulders, and followed by "if you buy the bike, we will saw the seat stem short for you". The more senior looking person behind the counter didn't offer any help as well. So basically it's like take it (for a spin) or leave it situation. I was seriously not impressed but as I mentioned earlier, I was on a mission to get a bike today. We've finally decided on a Devinci. Next, I asked about bike lock choices, and I forgot the brand I've recently bought (ARBUS...I later recalled). So I described the lock as metal plates folded together kinda lock. The sales rep said they do not carry such style, except u-shapes, and chains. As I proceeded to pay for the bicycle, helmet, and gloves I realized the ARBUS locks were just stacked in boxes, right next to the other locks. So after this long story, I guess one can comprehend how lay back and unenthusiastic the service was. And I'm about to make a point here...Kinetik Cycles, you've dropped the ball. I could have bought the second bicycle for myself on the same visit, but I've made up my mind to make that purchase somewhere else on my way back to Vancouver the same day. Please refer to the enclosed receipts...one purchase from Kinetik Cycle (which I reluctantly went through due to a tight time window), one purchase from Rad Cycle on Fraser and Broadway (very pleasant experience from real people working, and providing real service and advise at a greasy and not very rich looking shop). Not going back for more hipster attitude.

I was so overwhelmed trying to figure out the type and after considerable research decided that hybrid was the way to go. I checked the usual places (craiglsist, big box) but nothing really ever popped out as an obvious choice. Growing up in Coquitlam i always wanted a bike from Caps and decided where else to go than the original location on Columbia St. I met Chris and felt right at home and no pressure at all to look at the selections and do road tests. I had passed on the initial visit figured i would save some bucks and buy second hand. After many viewings and retails competitors i found my way back to Caps. Chris was very knowledgeable and great at answering all/any questions. In the end, i went with a Specialized Sirrus Disc and no regrets!...

Two weeks after I bought my bike the pedal started sticking so I brought it back, they changed it for me without charging me. It's not a super big store but they have a good selection of helmets and other accessories. Bikes do go fast these days in the time of covid though which is why when I found the size/color and brand (specialized) I wanted I bought it right away. I'll be back when my bike needs to be serviced or I need any accessories......

So I managed to get it home and changed it myself. I just wish I hadn't bought the replacement tube from them. I got and email from them apologising profusely which is nice and good business practise. They did state that in the future they will repair my non-Trek bike providing I sign an agreement releasing them of all responsibility if they screw up. Presumably this has something to do with Covid precautions, which makes little sense as I had already touched the items with my hands. He is wearing the same rubber gloves he used with the last customer, has no face mask and was ok hovering right next to me while I looked at the shelf. If a customer not handling products is the procedure, post it on the wall and greet them with it or explain that. Do NOT snatch items out of your customer's hands, then walk to the till with it assuming that I am going to buy it. Covid is not an excuse for having zero interpersonal communication abilities and grossly high pressure sales tactics. A message to the staff at Trek: you never know who you're talking to, and being condescending toward a more highly qualified mechanic and cyclist than yourself is not a good way to earn repeat business. Remember that you work in retail sales and are no more special than a sandwich artist. Also remember that grabbing things out of people's hands is rude and shamed upon even for toddlers. I will not be returning to buy even a valve core from these nimrods, and I am going to make it my mission to spread this experience with my family and friends in the local bike and dirt bike community.

About 2 miles from the top of Constitution, my motor seized up and I was in a really tight spot. I coasted back down to the campground and started putting water on the hub to cool it down, but it was already shot. The problem was, I was solo and didn't know anybody on the island. I called multiple businesses and taxis, but no pick up or responses. I left a message with Wildlife Cycles, thinking they may have a solution for a way to get my E-bike and I back to the ferry terminal, which was about 16 miles away. Hell, the closest hotel was in East Sound, a couple of hours walking a bike on a narrow road. With the sun getting lower on the horizon, my last resort was hitchhiking, to which a lovely local couple, and fellow bike riders, picked me up and gave me a ride all the way back to the ferry terminal. Within that time, Wildlife Cycles texted me back!!! Mind you they were the only response that I got from the entire island. The gentleman explained that he was off island, but asked me what my current situation was and what my plans were. I informed him about the ride I had got and how I no longer needed his assistance. Think about it, I didn't do any business with Wildlife Cycles, as I had my own E-bike, but yet they still reached out to help a bicyclist in need. I have no doubt if I still needed a ride, they would have 100% figured out a way. This small interaction speaks VOLUMES about how they run their business and who they employ. Hats off to Wildlife Cycles!

I recently purchased a helmet and thought I had already signed up for the welcome discount code. After I completed my order and looked at my receipt, I realized the discount hadn't been applied. My first thought was, "Oh shoot, I forgot to enter the code." That also made me wonder whether I had actually completed the sign-up, so I immediately signed up for the welcome offer. I looked for an option to cancel and reorder my purchase, but there wasn't one available. Since I acted right away, I reached out through the chat to see if the discount could be applied or if there was another solution. Sam responded by email and simply stated that the discount couldn't be applied retroactively. While I understand that companies have policies, I was disappointed by the lack of flexibility or effort to help. I wasn't trying to misuse the promotion--I made an honest mistake and contacted customer service almost immediately after placing my order. Life gets busy, and sometimes things slip through the cracks. I was juggling personal and family responsibilities at the time, and I simply forgot to enter the code before checking out. I was hoping for a little understanding and customer-focused service, especially as someone trying to make my first purchase with the company. Unfortunately, the interaction left me feeling that customer satisfaction wasn't a priority in this situation. A small gesture of goodwill or a more empathetic response would have gone a long way.
