We have barely a clue on what to go with and certainly required advice for the right bike. While their supply was limited, he was able to recommend a bike that fit our daughter perfectly. He allowed our daughter to give the bike a test in the parking lot and didn't rush any decision. In fact, another employee did a quick tweak to the bike and let my daughter go for another spin to see if it made the use of the gears any easier. We also learned that they have a buy back / trade in program for children's bikes since the kiddos tend to outgrow their bikes quite quickly. I recommend anyone in the area to include this place when seeking out a bike. I bought my previous bike from them about 10yrs ago and remember the same high level of service and support.

I have stopped in there on three different occasions in the past three years, when I have been, out…read morefor a bike ride and having a problem with my bicycle on route. I have had the same guy on each occasion NOT help me. I don't know if he is the owner or an employee, but whatever he is, he obviously has absolutely zero interest in being helpful. I'm not sure that he knows the front from the back end of a bicycle. Perhaps he had just smoked way too much on each occasion I happened to stop by...bad luck for me. He looks like he's crawled out of a very small dark hole. Now I really do not care what somebody looks like, honestly, I don't, but if they're completely useless and have no ability or even a modicum of interest in why they are there or what are they are doing... well you may ask the same question as me. How did you get this job and how did you manage to keep this job? Leads me to think that perhaps he is the owner, otherwise I can't imagine why they haven't fired him yet.. The most recent occasion I was there I was having problems with my brakes going down a hill. it was concerning enough that I thought I better stop this ride and get this looked into ASAP. Cove bikes were not far away, so I thought they'll be able to sort this problem out. The guy spun the wheel a couple of times, squeezed the brake lever, and said "it feels fine to me, can't see what's wrong with it." Honestly, that's all he did. He didn't look at the brakes. He did nothing but spin the wheel and squeeze the brake lever, that's it! I know I just repeated myself, but I can't believe that's all he did. Anyways, I left the shop, and I carefully rode back into Vancouver and I went to BiCi on Adanac. The guy didn't spin the wheel, he didn't squeeze the lever, he went straight to the brakes and had a look. what a concept! Turns out I had worn my brake pads right down. There was nothing left, metal on metal. He diagnosed the problem in five seconds or less! Problem solved and fixed, NO more problem! I really wish I could say something positive about Cove bikes. They've been there for a long time, and I hate to say bad things. Usually, I can find something redeeming to add. I certainly won't be going back there ever again. I'll walk home if I have to first. Maybe selling bikes is what they can do, but obviously repairing bicycles is not on the menu.

Bought a bike today for my goddaughter. I was on a mission to get it done today as I needed to…read moretrek all the way from Vancouver, under a tight work schedule. First stop was Trek Bicycle on Westwood Street. No stocks available, and they seemed too busy to answer questions. Hmm...that kinda layback and hipster attitude seemed far too familiar as I'm in the coffee business for 20+ years. Then we rushed over to Kinetik Cycles. Sales person seemed way too passive, and when we were shown a couple choices (my goddaughter needs a small or an extra-small frame), not much help was given about the seat height adjustments. I understand that the Kona we first tried was built a certain way where the seat stem was way too long for a small frame. The minimum seat height was so tall that it defeated the purpose of calling it "size small". We asked how we could make it possible to accommodate the height so my goddaughter could do a proper test ride. (Of course I know of a solution...just find a shorter seat stem and substitute it for a few minutes worth of test ride)...Nothing from the sales person, just a shrug of the shoulders, and followed by "if you buy the bike, we will saw the seat stem short for you". The more senior looking person behind the counter didn't offer any help as well. So basically it's like take it (for a spin) or leave it situation. I was seriously not impressed but as I mentioned earlier, I was on a mission to get a bike today. We've finally decided on a Devinci. Next, I asked about bike lock choices, and I forgot the brand I've recently bought (ARBUS...I later recalled). So I described the lock as metal plates folded together kinda lock. The sales rep said they do not carry such style, except u-shapes, and chains. As I proceeded to pay for the bicycle, helmet, and gloves I realized the ARBUS locks were just stacked in boxes, right next to the other locks. So after this long story, I guess one can comprehend how lay back and unenthusiastic the service was. And I'm about to make a point here...Kinetik Cycles, you've dropped the ball. I could have bought the second bicycle for myself on the same visit, but I've made up my mind to make that purchase somewhere else on my way back to Vancouver the same day. Please refer to the enclosed receipts...one purchase from Kinetik Cycle (which I reluctantly went through due to a tight time window), one purchase from Rad Cycle on Fraser and Broadway (very pleasant experience from real people working, and providing real service and advise at a greasy and not very rich looking shop). Not going back for more hipster attitude.

A few months ago, I brought my bike in to fix a slow leak in the rear tire and to find out how…read morethose new fangled thin ventiles worked to inflate the tire with my hand pump. They replaced the tube and recommended a protective strip around the inside of the tire to prevent thorn punctures. I rode it for a few months with the rear wheel having an annoying little bump with every rotation. I thought maybe that protective strip was bunched up a bit and would eventially straigten out. Instead it got worse and eventually the tube was pushed out from under the tire and displaced the tire so it started to rub once per revolution against the frame of the bike. I eventually had to half push, half carry the bike up to Trek from Marine Drive and Royal Oak where it got to the point where the bike was un-rideable. Trek very quickly replaced the tube and straightened out the tire so I could ride it home while they ordered in a thornproof tube for me. A few blocks from the shop, the tube exploded with a sound like a shot and the tire completely came off the wheel and was flopping around sometimes at right angles to the wheel. Meanwhile the remains of the tube was wrapping itself around the hub. It was mostly downhill to the nearest sky train station and the shop was closed by then, so I coasted to the Edmonds sky train station mostly on the rim. The next day, I stuffed the wreckage into the trunk of my car and drove back to the Trek shop and said please just fix it. A few days later, I got a text that it was ready to pick up. When I showed up, they brought up the bike and said they had to replace the rear wheel and put on a better tire which was thorn proof. The woman I was dealing with said there would be no charge and refused my offer to pay for the wheel since I did ride on it for a couple of km downhill. I'm very impressed with their integrity. The new tire and wheel made the 5km or so ride from the shop to home with no problems and no more of that periodic bumping which was so annoying on the old wheel and tire combo. I'm pretty sure they've learned from this experience and won't be offering that thorn-proof overlay on the tube anymore and will instead recommend replacing the tire with a tougher one.
