Took my e-bike in to be repaired, and it WILL be the last time I bring a bike in to get repaired. Was told to bring my bike in last week of March, and I would receive an email or call to let me know when to bring it in. I did not hear from West Point Cycles - West 10th. I decided to stop in to find out when to bring the bike in, they told me to bring it that day. They had a date to repair my bike and was told the bike would be ready for pick up on Tuesday, April 8. I called on Thursday, April 10 - as I did not hear from them on Tuesday, or Wednesday, they advised they had my mobile number listed as a landline (why I received no notification) and why I did not receive anything via email is another mystery. Thursday's call advised the bike would be ready that night, or Friday, April 11. I decided to call Friday, April 11th and told me my bike would be ready tomorrow Saturday, 12. Then the manager Dave called (unprofessional) advises that the bike will not be ready until Sunday, April 13, as a part needs to come from their Langley store. They did not have a repair date like they told me of Saturday, April 5, or Sunday April 6? The bike was able to change gears prior to taking it - now it won't. They never advised this when I picked it up. I have lost confidence and trust in West Point Cycles - West 10th - I feel that I have been strung along, and they keep coming up with excuses why my bike is not ready. The lack of customer service is mind blogging and how does an organization operate with this much lack of service and care to the customer. It is the customer who is doing leg work when you want a bike repaired here. They did offer me a discount on the repair - which I refused. read more

I had the misfortune of having my left crank arm really loosen on my ride today. Stopped at West Point in Kerrisdale on my way to UBC (I live in East Vancouver) and Jasper Lincoln really saved the day by helping me right away. I didn't even have my wallet with me and it didn't matter, he put some thread lock on the bolt and tightened it up nicely. I had posted a negative review yesterday because the servicing of my bike was not completed on time due to an oversight on the part of the bike shop. The management apologized an hour later, and promised to complete the servicing of the bike ASAP plus not charge me for labor costs. The work was completed by noon the next day. I commend the shop for handling the situation in a satisfactory manner. I appreciate their efforts in taking corrective action and treating the customer with respect. I brought in my old Raleigh Rocky II for a tune-up here about two weeks ago. While the job done itself was great, I was disappointed with the service for several reasons. I was told that the bicycle would be ready within a week. I called about a day or two ahead of the deadline just to check and see where they were at with the tune-up and was told that they had overlooked my bicycle completely and didn't even remember that it was supposed to be done. This wasn't a huge deal since it was still ahead of when I was told I would get my bike back and I was also given a discount, which was very thoughtful. The big issue I had was that when I dropped off my bike, I was given a quote of about $50 for a basic tuneup and to replace the brake pads. I also selected an option that I be notified if the bill exceeded $60. When I went to pick up my bike, I found from the invoice that I would be charged over $80, after the discount I had been given for the late service! This meant that before the discount they were planning on charging me over $110 for a tuneup that I was told would be $50?? I didn't want to argue with them (what could I do, ask that they undo everything they did to my bike?) and I'm lucky enough to be able to afford it, so I just paid up and left. TLDR: I was charged over double what I was quoted. They have friendly staff and good service, but being charged THAT much more than what I was told was a shocker and I have trouble trusting them as a result. read more

After a huge change in our vacation plans, my friend went to West Point Cycles (where they know her) and made arrangements to get a full suspension mountain bike rental for me for a few days. The people here were awesome and lent me an *amazing* bike. On top of that, they gave us a great price! This is seriously one of the best bike shops in the Vancouver area. Zero after sales follow and when you try to book an appointment they will inform you that it will be months before they can see you. Excellent, energetic, caring staff that go out of their way to treat you well. I brought my new Trek road bike to Bicycle Sports Pacific in Vancouver because they specialize in servicing Trek bikes. The staff appeared dour and acted as though I was interrupting them with my business (the store was empty). They declared that my rear wheel was out of true and were unsure of what to charge--so I recommended a complete tune-up. The following day I returned: my gear shifters were totally crooked, not much work had been done, and the back wheel was malfunctioning again shortly afterwards. I then brought my new Trek road bike to West Point Cycles at 10th and Alma (after booking an appointment--they're popular!) because they specialize in servicing Trek bikes. They made no immediate assumptions about what the problem might be and told me to come back later in the day. Upon my return, they patiently explained how it was a rear wheel hub problem, that they tried to disassemble, repair, and reassemble the hub--but to no avail. They reasoned it was poorly assembled in the first place, poorly repaired, or that it was just a bum wheel. So, what did they do? They replaced the hub and wheel (the bike is still under warranty) and did a general tune up for free. The folks @ Bicycle Sports Pacific didn't recognize the problem thus couldn't fix it. Of course, this didn't prevent them from treating me poorly and taking my money anyway. The folks @ West Point Cycles are actual professionals that approach your bikes problems with confidence and interest. read more

I have brought a few bikes to be repaired here after a recommendation form a friend. Their service was ok and they did a decent job of explaining what work needed to be done before I left the store. I wasn't overly impressed with some of the cost for parts. The markup seemed steep. After going here a few times I realized it costs more to fix my bikes than my car. But hey its on the west side and I have to think most people that shop here aren't too worried about costs. read more

I walked in trying to ask about upgrading my drivetrain. The two salespeople on the floor couldn't help me out, so they made a call to the shop (downstairs?) and relayed more or less what I said to the person on the other side of the phone. I was then basically told that "It's hard to say without looking at your bike. If you book a maintenance appointment then the shop guys can tell you more..." At this point, I wouldn't have even minded if the salesperson tried to upsell me on some components... just *some* sort of information to show that they actually know anything about bikes other than what the Trek marketing material tells them. I then inquired about getting some cables replaced on my bike. The prices weren't posted up - only pricing for full-bike maintenance packages - but it seemed like neither salesperson knew either. They had to spend 5 minutes looking it up... and then quoted me a price for mountain bike hydraulic hose even though I specified I had a road bike. I've gotten free - almost step-by-step instructions - on how to *install* components from other bike shops, never mind trying to sell me anything. I got the sense that this is a good place to go if you're not much of a DIYer and just want to throw your bike at someone and go "Here! Fix it!" and don't care about the cost, or want to buy a bike and don't know what you want. read more

I bought my bike here and have had it and my previous old beater bike serviced here in the past. The service has been friendly and helpful, but unfortunately they no longer do services on the weekends and they are only open during work hours during the week...which means I'd have to be without my bike for a week if I want to get any service done here. This is a great shop. I have purchased a commuter bike here and have also used their repair service several times for tune-ups and installations on my road bike. Their sales staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. They will also work with you to come up with different options within your budget (including looking at previous year models and gear options). They carry mountain, road, touring and commuter bikes, in addition to a variety of clothing and accessories. I have always received top notch service from this repair shop. Bikes always come back with everything in order and practically float out of the shop. Overall, this place is great. Only downside is that given their great reputation in the community, you may need to book repairs and maintenance several days in advance. Also, like all bike shops, they only carry specific brands (for sale). Best bike shop in the city so far. read more

I found my dream mountain bike here - pink. Excellent front shocks. There were gears and stuff, and did I mention it was pink? I know what I want from Santa this Christmas. Aside from my dream pink bike my boyfriend loaded up on a helmet, shorts, shoes, and gloves and I strolled along drooling at things and found an upgrade seat for my bike (yah, need to upgrade that). I would recommend a visit . + Positives + friendly staff, appear knowledgeable + did not try and up sell me + willing to do what ever necessary to make my riding experience comfortable (change saddle position, new stem, etc.) + you get a discount on all the gear you need (~10%) if you by a new bike from them Negatives - check your bill over carefully (I have heard of a few incidents of double charging etc.) - one or two extremely annoying sales people (as to be expected) This kind of place is based on its the relationships they make with their customers. Ben and his team at West Point cycle took amazing care of us when our bikes were stolen on the first day of our vacation last summer While on the phone, driving to Vancouver looking for a bike shop to replace our stolen bikes, and fix my daughter's bike, Ben was so helpful. He found us comparable bikes, brought one in from another store and built the other one - all ready for us when we came into Vancouver three hours later. Still shaken up from having our bikes stolen and roof box vandalized, they were so understanding and empathetic to our situation. And we appreciated the talk he gave us on bike security, making sure we bought the right bike locks. DO NOT SHOP HERE After a terrible experience at West Point I received an email from them asking for a rating. I gave them the lowest rating possible and received an email from one of their employees shortly afterwards asking for an explanation. I took the time to reply and then never heard back. Here is the email: I had a terrible experience at your West 10th location yesterday. Potentially the worst customer service I've seen in my 25 years of existence. I walk in and ask if they can take a look at the bike I purchased there back in 2016 as it's not shifting properly. They take the bike aside and I begin to browse for some new gear. I told them I was looking to buy a full new thermal kit while my bike was being looked at. A few minutes later I'm approached by an employee telling me they can fix my shifting issue for $18. I say great thank you. I then inquired about some of the Bontrager jerseys, tights and gloves that you have on your website. I was then told by a male employee that they wouldn't be stocked for 6-8 weeks but that they could take a look in the back for me. He deferred this to another female employee who I then followed to the back where she started unpacking boxes of last seasons gear. The options she presented weren't exactly what I was looking for so I kindly turned them down and thanked her for getting the boxes out for me. However, with each option that I declined, the employee because more abrupt, pushy and visibly irritated. Regardless, I thanked her again and told her I would be back in 6-8 weeks to look at the new stock. It was time to head out so I get to the cash register to pay for the fixing of my shifter. The female employee who told me it was going to be $18 earlier now tells me I owe $42. I could tell that it wasn't a mistake as she strangely didn't make eye contact with me as she said it and she seemed very nervous. Regardless I politely said I think she made a mistake as she told me it was going to be $18 dollars earlier. She responded by saying that they needed to do additional work in order to do the $18 worth of work that was prescribed earlier. I told her that's unacceptable that they did additional work on my bike without my consent and expect to be compensated for it. She then said that they were willing to give me a modest discount on the additional work. I told her that this isn't a negotiation and that I will be paying $18, as that was the price that was agreed upon earlier. The male employee then stepped in and started telling me that the reason that they did the work without my consent was because "their goal was to get me back on my bike as fast as possible" and that "they all had a long day". It made absolutely no sense. They were trying to rip me off and I should just let them scam me because "they had a long day"? Are you kidding me? I repeated myself and told him I'm not negotiating with you and that I'd like to pay the $18 and be on my way. The male employee told me he would "do me a favor" and only charge me the $18. The female employee rang it up and held out the interac machine with a trembling hand for me to tap my visa. I tapped it then grabbed my bike and left. I told these people that I was going to buy $500+ worth of thermal gear when they get their stock in 6-8 weeks and then they try to overcharge me $20 on $18 worth of maintenance.... clearly not the brightest individuals running that store. Then telling me I should let them scam me because "they all had a long day". Then "do me a favor" by charging me the price that was initially agreed upon. The staff is clearly attempting to take advantage of customers that are too shy or don't have the English skills required to question why they're being overcharged. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more

It's an absurd shop where they take liberties they weren't asked too, and subsequently charge for them. I took a bike in for minor service, and got an estimate. With all their little tweaks here and there, the final price they charged was twice that. Just something to keep in mind, that they've got a very accurate too good to be true thing going on. read more

I ordered the petrol-black coloured Ortlieb back roller classic bags and was given teal green bags when I went to pick up my order. The sales associate said this was what I ordered and that the colour may have looked a bit different online. So, I opted to change the style of Ortlieb panniers. However, instead of the associate retrieving a new set of bags, he sold me used bags with a broken box that was pieced together with tape. Very unimpressed with your customer service. read more

This is my go-to bicycle shop for repairs and servicing, all because my boyfriend has gone to a lot of bike shops and has proclaimed that this is the fairest in the land. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the prices are reasonable. I've taken my hybrid bike there for service and also once got a flat tire on my way to work and walked it over (passing several other bike shops with later opening hours along the way). They fixed my flat tire right away and pointed out that my brakes would need changing soon, so a week or so later I bought some new brake pads there. It made a world of difference, so in a way getting that flat tire helped ensure future safety! read more

I've been bringing my bike here (both locations) for the past decade and I have to say that the staff here are exceptional and care about their customers. I usually bring my bike in November because that's when they have tune-up specials. My handlebars were missing end caps and they put them in for free since it is a safety hazard. They also changed the fork oil in my front suspension without charging me. One bad thing is that they don't seem to offer as much discounts on their new bike sales as other stores. read more

My husband and I walked in knowing absolutely nothing about bikes, but I want to start biking to work just to be healthier and stop using the car. These guys were SO patient. I think I tested 4 bikes. They spent a good 3 hours with us.. answering every question with extreme patience and understanding. I was literally so happy with my purchase that we went back the next day to get my husband a bike. Again, met with the same enthusiasm, never over-sold.. and they even talked me out of some pricey upgrades I thought were cool but didn't really need. If you need a bike.. This is your shop. Best bike store in the City!! I have been to probably every bike store west of main street over the years and this store consistently delivers! The staff are "bike people" not just sales staff. They care about bikes and make you feel like they value your business. Prices are fair and they stand behind their products. You won't be "upsold" on a new bike if you are happy with a lower price one. The mechanics have kept an "antique" road bike running, and have only replaced what really needs replacing. The store can get busy, for good reason, but its worth the wait. Good selection of bikes on display with plenty of sizes in stock. Great store read more

This place has friendly service but I recently had an experience that was bitter sweet. Firstly, i periodically buy gear here because it's convenient, but you pay for that convenience. Case in point, I purchased a cycling rain jacket from bontrager for $124 and asked the Irish sales guy if the jacket would be going on sale any time soon, I was told that bontrager never goes on sale but if they did, that there was price protection. Three weeks later the same jacket is 50% off along with most things in their high end boutique store across the street. I ended up buying a few things and then explained the situation to the manager when paying and he looked up my purchase. He found the purchase and then ran the order through, which I assumed would include 50% off the rain jacket. I left the store pretty stoked about finding some oakleys on sale for 1/2 price but when I checked the invoice, they hadn't credited me 50% on the rain jacket. I felt odd going back and pointing that out to the store clerk given the huge savings on the other stuff but I did anyway. I was told that the manager who had rung the order through but had split the difference on he rain jacket with me. Sure they discounted it but if the sales guy had promised price protection and now the jackets were 50% off after only 3 weeks, why would you split the difference? Why not refund the entire 50% off? Seems like a petty move. Like I said, friendly service but regular prices are steep and that move will make me think twice about shopping there again. read more

Worst customer experience ever! Have you ever met a sales person that seems like they hate customers? The woman that works the Kerrisdale store is one of the worst I have ever seen. Over the last 5 years I have spent at least $600 there. And I dont mind paying for good service. But it seems they are on a mission to find anything possible to charge you for. When I am done there I feel dirty...like I have been robbed. So today I went in to ask for use of a tool for one minute while they wait. I was told that they would need to charge me $8 for the 1 minute use (their minimum shop charge). Really? Then they tried to sell me a tool for $12. Its a tool I use every 10 years! I couldn't believe my ears. I'm convinced they hate customers. And even though I live one block away, and my entire family of 5 uses them, we will never go there again. read more

I purchased a DeVinci Copenhagen from another bike shop two and a half years ago. While I took advantage of the free year of service following the purchase of the bike, I was never enthralled with how they treated me as a customer. I live just around the corner from West Point Cycle so started taking my bike to them for service. I was so happy with them that my husband purchased his first hybrid (Rocky Mountain) from them just over a year ago. He has been really happy with his bike and the helpful staff. So, two days ago someone stole my DeVinci (a great bike, btw) and yesterday I bought a replacement bike (Trek 7.5 FX) from West Point Cycle. The store was really really busy - a long weekend, GranFondo next weekend, etc, etc - but I got all the attention and advice I could ever ask for. They were especially sympathetic regarding the theft of my bike and went above and beyond to get it ready for me by the end of the day. They have a full range of bike accessories, clothing, shoes, pedals - everything you could possibly need to outfit your bike and yourself. read more

I have frequented many bike shops in places I have lived on three continents and West Point Cycles is as good as it gets. The people are extremely experienced, they love what they do and it is contagious. They take the time to understand what you are really looking for without being pushy or assuming. They encourage test-riding and help to sort out what is working and what isn't. I went in earlier this year looking for a very specific bike for commuting, only to completely change my mind on what would work best for me after talking it over and test riding. I have been completely happy with the bike I bought. I went back and bought a road bike 6 months later - hands down the best bike of my life. West Point also sells Trek bikes for which I have a soft spot. It is a company with a sound ethical grounding and great products for all kinds of riders at a range of price points. They came in under the estimate and had the bike done in a day. Overall excellent service, great communication, super helpful to explain everything and the cost and I got exactly what I needed.
