Bike mechanics usually don't gather the same kind of recognition as say auto mechanics do but I'm telling you Steve's the real deal! Charges quite a bit less for tune-ups than others. Took home a refreshed folding bike after some minor adjustments but the very next day I accidentally 'dislocated' the spring mechanism inside the folding handlepost (Oops!) and Steve fixed it no charge. I bought an e-bike on line. The rotor was warped and the brake liquid was leaking. I took it to West Point Cycles, and they said they don't touch such bikes (not sold by them). SportCheck said : "Bring it and take it back the following day!". After 6 days, they said they didn't have "the bleeding equipment and couldn't fix it!" I surfed on the web and found Atomic Bike shop. Steve said:" I am busy until Wednesday". I took my bike to him (Steve) on Wednesday, and he said "You can take it back in half an hour", and charged me a ridiculously low fee. I protested it, it was unfairly low. After some arguing I managed to convince him to accept %25 more! If you want your bike fixed, don't take it to bike shops who focus on selling bikes! They want to sell bikes, and charge high fees to maintain them. Take the bike to a good repair shop, a small business owner like Steve who is also a very friendly and nice person. I had been looking for an inner tube and after trying 5 other shops in and around Vancouver and either ordering and then receiving the wrong tube or accepting my order and then deciding that they really didn't have the correct tube I happened to go to Atomic. Steve not only had the correct tube but was most helpful in explaining the proper procedure to install the tube. YouTube is good but a real person is so much better. I'm a bit hesitant to write this review for purely selfish reasons: I don't want to share Steve. He is utterly awesome. I regularly bring my commuter in for tune-ups and he always does a phenomenal job to make it a smoother and safer ride. He's also saved my butt on multiple occasions, including after I was in an accident nearby -- he got me up and running immediately so I could still get home (even though he was about to close shop!). Prices are totally reasonable and as others said, he doesn't up-sell. He's friendly, honest, and just wants your ride to be the best ride it can be. Since Steve serviced/repaired my bike, it has never felt or looked better. All the gears shift smoothly. I am confident riding it. This is an owner-operated business, a one-man-show, and he knows what he is doing. many bike shops hire minimum wage or near minimum wage young guys who do not put their hearts into the job as Steve does. I was treated well from the beginning and got really good value for my money. Because it is a one-man-shop, do not expect an immediate turnaround. But it is well worth the wait! read more

The best bike shop I have ever been to. Steven is kind and knowledgeable. He's the epitome of a Vancouver cyclist. I can't speak highly enough of his work. And the prices are very reasonable. As an avid commuter, I had a broken front derailleur and he was able to find another vintage one for my vintage bike. He also adjusted the gears perfectly, and replaced my back tyre and tube for a very low price. There is no other place to get your bike fixed. Hello I am Jef Choy.... Steve's the man...he's one of the reasons why I don't have many tools. What's so great about Atomic is it's a repair shop. He's not trying to upsell you into a new bike, but he's not about to waste his time, and your money trying to fix something that's unfixable. That's exactly what you want! He also knows his stuff. It's not uncommon with bike shops, there's a couple guys who know their stuff, and there's a bunch of sales people, not here, it's just him and he knows everything. His price was really good to the point where I paid him more because he was so up front and good about everything. How many times to you pay for services where you thought, 'wow, I was expecting more!'...not often in this city. With Atomic every time I've gone in I've thought that. Steve is the man. I have a $100 beach crusier that he won't let me put more money into. I have an emotional attachment from buying it in San Diego in the 90's and can't let it go so he keeps it going. Steve is the most honest, trustworthy, happy guy you could come across. I have the upmost confidence in buying anything from Steve. Thats why when mine is broken, I put it in my car and drive it past all the Denman street bike shops and take it to Steve to fix. He won't even let me upgrade my seat until it's broken. If there's one thing he could improve on is his up-selling technique. He always over delivers and never ever tries to sell me something I don't need. He does try to convince me to buy a better bike (from someplace else, he does't sell bikes, just fixes them). But I think he just doesn't want me to keep putting money into my piece of crap $100 cruiser that is now worth more in parts than the whole bike. I guess I am building a bike part by part, as things break and get replaced by new better pieces. I trust his service and integrity like no other.
