I'm a light commuter that has slowly been increasing my road time over the last few years. For that purpose, I ended up getting a great little road bike 3.5 years ago, which I perform basic, basic (I stress basic) maintenance on every week or so. Two years back, I took my bike in before the season start for a tune up and assessment. The mechanics told me that my drive train was worn out, and would likely need replacing in the coming year. For financial reasons, I held off, and figured I'd just beg to the bike gods, and stretch my luck. However, in the last month or so, my gears started slipping, making some funny grinding noises, and to the untrained eye, didn't look like they were in the greatest shape. Sadly, I surmised that my trusty stead had had enough, and pretty soon, my sad bank account would feel the burn. I figured it couldn't hurt to have someone look at it, maybe adjust the gears, and give me a ballpark as to how long it'd last, and the potential cost of a new drive train. That's where Ride On came in. At random, I rolled into their shop, where the lovely gent at the service area had my bike up on the stand in less than 5 minutes. Another 5 minutes later, after performing some bike magic in front of my eyes, he declared that the bike was good to go. I was flabbergasted! SO SOON? He smiled and told me he had tightened up the gears, and that they should run smoothly from now on. Before finishing up, I sheepishly told him that I'd been previously told that the drive train probably needed a change soon, and if I could please have a price quote. He pulled out a tool, had a good look at my bike, and declared that the chain, and it's corresponding parts were in decent shape, and he couldn't foresee my needing a replacement any time soon. COLOUR ME BLOWN AWAY. I think I even muttered.... "wait.... what??", to which he reassured me that the condition in total looked fine. I mean, I'm absolutely sure I look full on bike naive, and if you'd told me that i needed a new chain, I think I'd have stupidly thrown my money at him. But this fantastic gent just smiled, and said everything was looking good. I'm glad I didn't embarrass him by leaking happy tears because I am so infinitely grateful for the honesty. No up selling, no drawing out the service, no lying, just good, honest, and kind service. I would not hesitate to return, and will return for all my biking needs. Thank you bike angel. read more

Phoned to rent bike...went to shop to rent and there was no men's bikes to rent??? Looked like upselling to hybrids...

First time in this shop looking to purchase two bikes, however after abrupt customer service after purchasing one bike and several accessories, I looked at other reviews on this business, and it appears that there are many others who experienced the same condescending customer service from the owners. As soon as I had paid for the product there was an immediate and abrupt attitude change with no regard to answer basic questions regarding dynamics to ensure the safety of the bike for a young child brand new to gear shifting. It was too much trouble to lower the seat so that the child was not wobbling on her tip toes to touch the ground when sitting on the bike. This is because they were eager to make other sales and it would take a minute of their time to lower the seat. Am grateful for the abundance of friendly bike shops and services in Kits and will gladly support other businesses that operate with values and ethics, and do not demean their customers. They sold me a 15 year old kids bike that was donated to them for free that same day, and my bill upon leaving was almost 200$! They did 10 mins of servicing on the donated bike. When I asked basic questions about the breaks and the gears, as the bike was 15 years old, they were very rude in their responses. I strongly believe in supporting local business, but have never experienced such rude and condescending service in a bike shop. Gladly, I found my second bike with great help and customer service from Cap's Bicycles and The Bike Doctor, just down on Broadway from Ride On! For anyone who is looking to donate kids bikes, please consider The Bike Kitchen which is a bike shop that operates on UBC Campus. They service and refurbish donated kids bikes for free and turn around and give them to kids that need them by donation....not for 200$ for a 15 year old kids bike that was donated for free! The program is called the Kids Bike Library run by the bike shop The Bike Kitchen. read more

Needed to fix my bike brakes for safety sakes. Most shops on the west side had 2 week waiting list due to the wonderful summer weather we have in Vancouver. Though Ride On also had a waiting list, they understood the urgency and helped squeeze in the job same day. They got my hydraulic disc brakes working again. Price was reasonable too. Came here with a flat tire that needed repair. I decided to get new grips put on my handle bars at the same time. They guy did a horrible job he cut part of my grips for now reason to make them fit better. Now they look super crappy. Also the flat they repaired went flat again the same day. There was arguing about who was working the weekend when I was there in front of all the customers. The guy doing the work looked miserable. Won't be coming back here. I go to union cycles on union street and will be sticking with them from now on. Since my review ride on has contacted me through YELP after reading my review and has offered to credit me for the grips they put on and apologized to me. Always nice when a business reaches out and wants to fix the situation as opposed to ignoring it! Thanks guys. read more

Terrific shop for used bikes. We were able to buy serviceable bikes for a week in Vancouver for less than cost of rentals. We got overcharged for a bike and they had called and notified us before we even got back to our rental house! Did my research upon busting up my old clunker and this was the best place, originally suggested to me by my triathlete coworker. Super wide range of quality bikes. At the lower priced end, refurbished and tuned bikes that Ride "flips" after people donate 'em. Road, mountain, bmx, and more starting around $50 and going up, with road bikes going for around $150 and up. On the higher priced end, performance cycles (road, bmx, cruiser, cyclocross and customs) at massive discounts. Bought my 2011 model for $300 under msrp, and that was by far not the best deal. Web site is regularly updated with sale info, new arrivals, stock updates, and sweet videos. Check there and write down the info. Staff is super knowledgeable and totally unpretentious/not intimidating and doesn't push a sale. Fit me perfectly for my new Masi aka my lover (sad?) Dealt with my neurotic and obsessive test driving and adjusted the bar stem to help me out for size. 100% recommended for all your cycling needs read more

I went in here and immediately went to the counter to ask a question. There were two employees; a guy and a girl. The guy is talking to a customer, but after they're done talking, he just looks back down at whatever he was doing and continues filling out some checklist. Meanwhile, the girl is just looking down at something and only after the other customer leaves, does she actually look up and acknowledge me. Overall, not a good experience at all. Do I have to feel like I'm a beggar when I go into a store to possibly make a purchase? read more

I took my bike here about 4 weeks ago based on the reviews I read on Yelp. When I first met the bike mechanic he was super friendly and very knowledgable. Taught me alot about my bike which I didn't know. I left my bike there for a week for a tune up, chain replacement, new handle bar tape, new fenders, new brakes ... etc. I picked my bike a week later and didn't ride it for about a week. The first day I rode my bike I knew something was wrong, the gears were slipping. Turns out the freewheel needed to be replaced, and should have been spotted by the mechanics if they test rode my bike like they were suppose. So I had to take my bike back to ride on again, and explained my unhappiness. They said sorry and said it should take no more than a day or two. That was a tuesday and I didn't hear from them by Friday so I called them, took them about 15 minutes to find my bike, and just to find out they hadn't touched my bike. They may have to order parts and couldn't give me a time estimate on when it would be done. I was super miffed at this point. By wednesday the following week, I hadn't heard from them so I went to the shop in person, and spoke to a gentleman named Don. I explained my situation and how they dropped the ball hard and what was going on ... Don went and investigated and found my bike still had NOT been touched. He did sincerely apologize and had them work on my bike right then when I was in the shop. About 20 minutes they had my bike up and working with new parts. Don was very nice and understood my frustration. Still not really sure how they messed up so badly. But the parts and labour were covered and I had a g/c as an apology. Needless to say as ticked as I was at Ride On Again, Don managed to sway my mood and I really appreciated it. Still wish it never happened, but in the end they did a good job. And I will most likely be back for accessories and gear, but I am unsure about going back for repairs and tune ups. read more

I seriously love Ride On Again Bikes. Not only did I score a sweet vintage 1969 Raleigh bicycle for a very fair price (and rattan collapsible basket as well!), but the shop also loaned me a lock to use without even asking! All second-hand bikes receive a tune-up and safety inspection before they are available to the public so you feel safe putting tire to pavement straight out of the shop. It is clear that the staff are passionate about cycling - not in the elitist way of some bike shops though. They're passionate about getting "ordinary" folks like me on a bike and on the streets. I highly recommend Ride On Again Bikes to someone looking to get a reliable second-hand bike at a decent price. The great customer service is just gravy. read more

Probably one of the best business cards I have seen in a while. Hint... "chaffing" Over the years I have bought three bikes off these guys, unfortunately two of them were stolen in lovely Vancouver. But my latest is still in my possession and runs pretty smoothly. However, it was in need of a little spring tune-up, so I took it in yesterday. $45 and less than a day turnaround and it is looking like new. The price seemed a bit high, but I don't care. I know they took good care of my ride. The staff are still pretty chill, and know what they are doing. Great sales on bikes right now too. See you on the seawall. read more

Just had one of the best customer service experiences of my life with Ride On. Their employee April has been incredibly patient and helpful in helping me purchase and ship a bike from their store to my home. She really went above and beyond to help this international purchase work out and give me the information I needed to find an economical shipping option. So happy she's been able to help me purchase this bike (which seems to be literally the last unsold one of its model and size -- all the U.S. distributors were sold out). All of this during coronavirus safety measures that limited their hours and created a huge surge in people trying to purchase bikes! If my experience is anything to go off of, you'll be glad you took your business to Ride On. And P.S. to the owner/manager -- I recommend giving April a bonus or a raise. :) read more

Customer service is one of the WORST I've ever encountered. As Peter N. had written in last year's review on yelp, the person is indeed "condescending to the point of insult." As students who haven't bought bikes before, we were looking to buy two used bikes in our neighborhood. Ride On Again's website said they had used bikes for around $80+ and to stop by to take a look. So, we did and I truly regret taking my parents there as well. Our parents traveled here to visit us from the United States to shop for bikes, but our experience ended with the guy telling them to go back! My mom didn't even finish her first sentence that the used bikes for $100-200 were too expensive for us and that we were looking for something under $100. Instead, the guy literally told us that he "had no time for us" and for us to "beat it!" That's insulting service to the customer who has the right to look for a good deal. read more

There were other stores much closer to me but I read the reviews and thought I'd have to make the trip all the way to Kits and have a professional tune up done by them. They got their operations down to a tee. I needed a bike tune up and got there pretty early. I was the 7th one in queue, and they came out with a pen and paper, talking to each one in line to find out what they needed help with. Dave helped me with my bike. There were many issues with it but he took one look at it and pointed out something that I wasn't even aware of. My bike seat was at an angle causing most of my weight to transfer to my hands and onto the handlebars. He recommended that the bike needed a stem where the angle could be adjusted so the handlebars are higher to prevent any hunching. 10 minutes before the store hours started, they had all our bikes already inside! Apart from the gear shifting, rattling, break cables, hydraulics, this one change helped in making my ride more enjoyable. I immediately noticed a much smoother ride and going up hill now is easy work! Any judgement call he made based on whatever else he felt the bike needed to function properly was conservative but to standard, explaining further that a bike will need to conform to how your body sits and moves. The attention to detail with the goal of just making my ride more enjoyable was exactly what I needed and got! Highly recommend this place, they were very efficient and have their customers in mind. read more

I went in looking to buy a cheap but long lasting bike and I got one on sale that is fantastic ! They also put on all the accessories for no extra cost and demonstrated how to lock up my bike outside the shop. Ride on Again Bikes has been my exclusive bicycle provider, as a complete novice to biking in general. The prices range from standard fare to expensive but are well compensated by the extensive free after-purchase servicing. The staff is highly knowledgeable and willing to fix most any problem just as a courtesy. We got off on the (extremely) wrong foot due to some trouble with a stressed out overworked employee, but they have since provided excellent service. My advice if you're not in the "in" crowd with bikes is to say only what is absolutely necessary to complete your business, avoid asking any questions and don't take any frustration they may have to heart. read more

Simply put, awesome. Guys hanging out, glad to help you with anything. I went in to put some better-than-the-currently-crappy pedals on my 1977 Talbot, only to find they were practically fused to my old cranks. I had removed all the deraileurs front and back and done a 'poor man's' single gear conversion (with all the sprockets still on). Hating my current pedals, not liking the excess bulk of gear weights, the crew offered me a new set of cranks and pedals for less than $60 - installed. Now my bike looks hot shit, has wicked new pedals, weighs less, and is ready to continue on its upgrading adventure. They event leant me a loaner bike while my got fixed up. Straight awesomeness. This is the worse service I have ever experienced plus, life threatening. I bought a new bike from them in January ($700) and a few months after I came for a free tune-up that they offer. The bike was completely fine before the tune-up. A few days after one of the spokes broke while I was riding on a busy street with lots of cars around me. I brought a bike to them again, they "repaired it" and again... a few days after a spoke broke. So, I brought it again and... same story. One tune-up and 2 after-tune-up repairs and my bike is broken again. How bad at repairing bikes do you have to be to take a perfectly good bike, manage to ruin it and never be able to fix it again? Seems like these guys have a good location so they don't need to care for customers anymore - super sloppy, super bad. read more

This shop is down to earth, gives you options from folks that seem really passionate about bikes whether they be old, used or new. They set me up 3-years ago with a great old bike that gets the job done & was inexpensive. Second time I've rated these guys and because they went over and beyond expectations for service again. Dave the bike mechanic is the best and most honest I've ever met. Had a replacement frame I purchased and he immediately noticed some flaws (in what I purchased) and saved me a lot of grief by not going ahead with transferring components. Went in there last Saturday to get a new axle on my back wheel. I was told by the first sales guy working there that it would be impossible for him to match the axle without me taking it out, he could charge me for the labour involved in that and the $10 axle would end up costing about $25 (somehow) so it was "easier" if i just got a new wheel for $50 (easier for who exactly). The bike, although low end (probably $300-$350 new) cost me $30 from craigslist and wasn't prepared to pay $50 for a new wheel. I managed a bike shop in my own country for 2 years while attending university so I know all the mechanics of a bike and could replace the axle no problem once I got it. The guy told me to come back with the axle removed and he could match it. Displeased with the lack of help i returned to my car and realised with the axle already broke in half i could remove it without tools and bring it back in. This time I was dealing with the manager. He told me I had to remove the cones from the axle so he could match it up (fair enough), he said if I were to get him to do it, it would cost me $15 in labour (because that's a fair price for a 3 minute job) and he was still deciding if it was worth getting his hands dirty or not. Then he continued with the following. It was their busy day (2 customers in the shop, one waiting on a repair and one just looking with 4 staff members, 3 sales and 1 working on the repair on their only bike stand in sight) - I had no problem getting it during the week instead of on their "busy day". They "mostly work on high end bikes", in other words, if i'm not spending much and their not making much they couldn't be bothered which tied in nicely with their attitude. He basically had to clean the axle down with a rag and loosen 2 lock nuts, remove them + 2 cones and he could match it. So basically i wasn't getting an axle off them unless i was prepared to pay through the nose for a job I would have done/have done without any problems or money changing hands just to help someone out, literally would take a monkey with 2 spanners 60 seconds to do it. DONT, go into this shop unless you have a lot of money to spend, if you do then I'm sure you'll get service with a smile and they'll help you out. If you want something minor done, go elsewhere :) you won't find any help here. read more

I went in with a broken chain on an 11-month-old bike and waited around for 20 minutes as the five-or-so staff members chatted with their friends or amongst themselves. When somebody finally got around to serving me, they aggressively pushed a new bike on me when, again, my 11-month-old bike simply needed a new chain. I have a hard time believing you aren't going to be ripped off here. Whatever they recommend in terms of repairs, your bike probably only needs half of what they recommend. read more

The bike thieves of Vancouver had broken my heart in a way that I never thought I would recover. It's been seven years since I last owned a bike. While a student at UBC, I had my first bike stolen in the middle of third year. I got back on the proverbial horse (this time, a much cheaper bicycle that I was never that crazy about) only to have that crapass bike stolen again...on the last day of classes no less. I swore I would never own again. Cut to several years later and it's a glorious day in Vancouver. I have a nagging feeling that I can't NOT have a bike. The nearest bike store was Ride On Again and I am so happy it was. Rob was fantastic. He showed me the best of the best, a beautiful mint green Brodie that was way outside what I wanted to pay for this impromptu purchase. We chatted about my price range and the distances I needed to travel on my bike and he redirected the sale towards some very nice alternatives. I gave them a ride around and then did the thing you're never supposed to do - I hopped on that Brodie that was way outside my price range. Rob warned me, I didn't listen and the next thing I knew I was in love. My bike is beautiful, low maintenance and perfectly appropriate for my city riding. Rob seemed to know that this was supposed to be the bike for me and suddenly, I didn't care that I was spending $500 more than I had planned to. Rob gave me a killer deal though, outfitted me with a lock and a basket and 20 minutes later, I was riding home, a changed woman with a sick bike and a new lease on life. Go to Ride on Again. The staff listen, they know their shit and they just want you, the buyer, to have fun. Because it's pretty clear that they're having fun. Let's just hope the Vancouver bike thieves don't leave me a scorned woman for a third time. read more

The young girl that helped me and my girlfriend was extremely helpful. She found a bike which my gf loved right away.. below her price range (she didn't even try to upsell us).. my girlfriend then went on to buy a helmet, basket and new seat. She threw in a free light and gave her a very generous discount on everything else. They tuned the bike within the hour.. Having experienced snobby know it all attitude in a lot of other shops this place was a breath of fresh air. read more

Just wanted to do an update since it's been a couple of years and I'm on to my second attempt at biking in Vancouver. I got a bike from a friend, and came here for all the servicing and upgrades. My (new to me) bike went from disgustingly black dust, gears seizing up every few steps, and scaring people on the sidewalk by popping a tire while sounding like a shotgun, to riding all over Vancouver from Pacific Spirit Park to Jericho looking a little more pimp. I trust every one of the staff here because they know wayyyy too much about bikes and have never let me down. read more

In the last month I have been to about ten different bike shops in the Lower Mainland. I must say Ride On Sports left a lasting impression with me. I love these guys. They are so friendly and helpful here. They don't make you feel like you are a cycling rookie even if you are. The sales atmosphere is casual, but informative. I wish every purchase I made was this chill. They offered me a discount on the sale price without even asking. They even assembled a bike from the back room because they didn't have my size on the floor. They made me feel like they wanted my business, like I was important to them, and my opinion mattered. At the same time they were honest with me as to what they thought would work best for my needs. I just wish they had more selection to chose from. read more

I went to visit a few bike stores in Kitsilano last Sunday and Ride on Again was my last stop of the day. The gentlemen that assisted me was extremely helpful and even looked to help me despite it being very busy, they obviously know how to staff for busy days and put customers first. With the help of their very informative and honest down to earth advice and awesome selection of bikes, I tested a few that intrigued me before I found the bike of my dreams for my price range. They built it for me within a couple of hours. Even though I didn't end up buying from them, I will definitely be taking my new bike here for servicing. Also really appreciate that they are happy to take donated bikes and fix them up to resell. I think it's a great way for an organization to be involved in the bike community and encourage bike usage. UPDATE: went back to get outfitted with locks and bike rack, and had a nice chat with the owner who gave me some handy tips while I installed my stuff, and told me how he opened Ride On in Vancouver 17 years ago.
