I tried to look past the fact that they are rude and dismissive and hoped I'd just be happy with the work. But twice they sold me totally crap components, thinking I wouldn't know the difference. If you don't come in specifying exactly what caliber of parts you want, they will take advantage and give you junk. I don't go there anymore. read more

having been a dedicated cyclist for many years I appreciate this shop sooo much - it may look a little dishevelled and disorganized and you might not get a big shiny smile when you walk in - but you also won't find some slimy suck-up trying to slide you onto a bike you can't afford and you will get straight up answers from seasoned veterans who know everything about bikes , and who do it better than the competition ; and if they do fuck up they own it and make it right then and there because they want you on your bike - that's why they are there. A lot of people don't really get this place's vibe because they aren't trying to plus-sell you on anything you don't need and yeah they might even make fun of you if you ask for goofy shit instead of smile and take that loot - which is hyper refreshing compared to every other bike shop I have ever been in. some of the most talented mechanics in town with none of what we have all come to expect from shops that work on hi end bikes - and I won't take my fancy Italian road bike anywhere else but Mighty Riders. Ed and Ryan rule. also - for the record - anyone who leaves reviews about a bike shop complaining about wait-times for parts since 2020 is a complete idiot. read more

Ed and the team at Mighty Riders is awesome! Ed is a walking encyclopedia of all things bike and he knows how to apply it. He is honest and upfront and he won't sell you on something you don't need. He will work within your budget and goals and will pride himself to get you the best that he can. He will also let you know if he doesn't have the right thing for you or can't get you want you want and will send you somewhere else if that is the case. His bike fitting is fantastic as well and has been very useful for friends and family that are performance oriented or have back/neck/shoulder difficulties that they are working with. The whole team is very upfront and honest and they are great wrenches as well. I appreciate all of their help! read more

I am embarrassed because I was scammed by this bicycle shop. I spent 2000 dollars on a Soma Rush and parts to which they built up for me. Ed the owner guided me through which parts to purchase and I trusted him. This was my first time buying a new bike. A couple of months in to riding it a clicking noise started happening. I took it back and they tried to fix it and charged me 160. It still made that noise and was even worse after. The owner swept his hands at me as if I should go away, and would roll his eyes at me and say "oh you again" . There would be times when I wouldn't even be acknowledged. I felt like an idiot for not knowing about bikes (even though that's what bike stores are for). Eventually I couldn't take the cliche of being a woman not knowing my feet up to my ass and bring a bike that they repeatedly could NOT fix back. As if I had done something wrong to it by riding it everyday. I decided to take it to my tried and true RAD cycles where they informed me where I was indeed scammed. It was built with the wrong type of brakes (road on a single speed) and has a track hub with a cheap free wheel on expensive Japanese wheels. This is probably what is causing the clicking and also doesn't make any sense being built this way. To solve this issue I would need to sell the wheel set and screw someone else over and then build up the wheels again properly with a shimano free wheel set that could actually fit a single speed bike properly. I just graduated with a bachelors of fine arts deep in student loans. I work two jobs to cover my rent and art studio. This bike was a graduation present from my family. I spent months researching frames and I believed in might riders and ed to build my dream bike. Biking is my main mode of transportation and has pulled me through some really tough times. But this summer has been me either my waiting for it to be fixed or riding it broken. I will never recommend mighty riders and I hope no one else has to go through what I did. read more

I just became a proud owner of 10 feet of brake hose for Shimano hydraulic brakes. I paid $84 total = 8.40 per foot. Made the mistake of looking it up on Amazon afterwards. And I suddenly understood why the guy at the checkout was mumbling when he told me what I owed. I couldn't understand what he said. Maybe he had noticed that I'm a bit hard of hearing when I came in? Next, he "helped" me by hitting the "OK" button on the debit terminal, before handing it to me. That way, I *still* couldn't see the amount that I was paying, the display had progressed to "insert your card please". I just paid, because, well... I'm generally slow to realize these things when they happen, and in any case: I really wanted that hose to work on my bike this evening. And I probably thought "come on how bad could it possibly be"? Well: 4x Amazon, that's the answer. Yes, I know: One shouldn't expect retail stores with life & competent humans to sell at Amazon prices. Well, I don't. I'm fine with quite a bit of markup, actually. But what I don't expect is a factor of 4. Plus, little nasty tricks to make sure the dumb old guy doesn't notice before swiping his card. That, gentlemen, is pretty poor. Sorry: one star, and I will post this on Reddit as well. read more

I had a busted bike. Mighty Riders claims to do bike repair. A perfect fit? Not quite. Granted, my job was small potatoes. Borrowed bike, saddle stuck way too high up (tall friend), and since I was visiting the city, I didn't have tools or oil or anything to help coax it down. It wasn't a huge job, but I would have paid handsomely to render the bike usable and avoid rental fees for the week I was in town. So walked the bike to Mighty Riders and asked for help. The gentleman at the counter gave me a "you have to be kidding me" look, unhinged the lever, and pushed down. Um, I tried that already--I'm not an idiot. It was STUCK, as in it needed tools or oil or some such business. But these bike repair pros weren't too hot on the customer service: he handed the bike back to me and said, "It looks stuck." No f-ing shit, dude. I stood there kinda stammering, waiting for him to offer his bike repair expertise, but he just sent me out the door without even trying. The guys at Westcoast Sports, just a couple blocks down, took it to the back, worked on it, offered to keep it overnight for the Release All to take effect--all for free. That was what I was looking for, and Mighty Riders certainly didn't deliver. read more

I have lived next to this place for a couple years. I've been in a few times. Visit 1: Completely ignored while they chatted with someone else for 20 minutes. Visit 2: Completely ignored while they chatted with someone else for 20 minutes. Visit 3: Completely ignored while they chatted with someone else for 20 minutes. Visit 4: Waited long enough for them to finish chit chatting. Talked to them about a commuter bike I was looking for. I was interested in a Brodie bike which only they carry. He said it was in a box in the back and they would assemble it in the next couple days, then phone me. He took down my number and everything. It's been a couple months now. So I suspect the bike is either still in it's box or is sold. So you won't see me in there again. read more

Here's the deal: - Ed knows everything there is to know about high-end bikes (and presumably low end bikes as well) - They have some of the best mechanics and wheel builders in the city - The shop looks like a mess They are a little rough around the edges. I really want to give Mighty a 5 star review, but I can't. While they happen to have some of the best mechanics in town working for them, and they're the ONLY place I would ever have wheels built in Vancouver, I've had a couple bad experiences with ordering parts. Sometimes it seems like orders slip through the cracks and they're not very good at following through. That said, they do try to make up for it and I've gotten some good deals as a result, and I still shop here often. If you're a novice cyclist, you might get a little attitude from them, but they'll always give you good advice, so don't argue unless you're 100% sure you know what you're talking about. Big fan, will always recommend them. read more

Had my bike sent to them to start a Pacific Coast tour down to LA. While unpacking it, they slashed my Brooks bar tape with an exacto knife. Didn't replace it. When they gave me the bike for a test ride, the stem was loose and THE BRAKES WERE DISCONNECTED. Their location is on a slight hill with traffic. It was a very close call. WTF?! A couple other things were not fastened and some pieces were just completely missing, like my headlight mount. And yes, it was packaged 100%. The guy Nick I think apologized and said his mechanic had gone home but he'd call him back. I was supposed to leave on the tour that day but instead had to wait another day, which meant finding more accommodations, etc. Ed the mechanic arrived from home to fix up my bike...again...and it didn't seem like he gave two shits that he gave me back a half-ass bike. They ended up not charging me for this whole mess but when I sent them a letter, I got no response. So, 1 star to you Mighty Riders, next time I will take my bike elsewhere and will steer my fellow bike travelers to another Vancouver bike shop. read more

I just purchased an Opus Classico from Mighty Riders and had a positive experience. Their price on it (end of season) was about 25% less than the other two places I checked, and the sales experience was relatively pleasant. The salesman I had seemed new, but said he was a "wrench" who was just getting used to the sales floor. He knew his stuff, and had absolutely zero attitude, which seems rare in a bike shop. When I bought the bike, he did a custom fitting, and installed a new stem free of charge to give me more height on the handles (I'm tall). Then when I bought a set of lights and a lock (which I got a discount on when I asked for it), he offered to install them all for me on the spot. The only complaint I have was with his boss, who seemed like he was in a foul mood, and dropped quite a few F-bombs while talking to his staff. But some people are just like that I guess - if I look past that, the entire experience was quite pleasant, and I look forward to going back for free service quarterly. read more

I visited Mighty Riders a few times before becoming an actual customer. What I think brought me back was the fact that they never tried to sell me anything, even the first time I went in when I seemed pretty serious about spending a couple hundred bucks getting some new wheels laced up. You will have to accept the fact that you may not get greeted. In fact they may not even acknowledge that you're there if they're already helping another customer. You will simply have to wait. But when it is finally you're turn they give you their full attention to provide the best service/advice/expertise possible. I just took delivery of a custom road bike that was built exactly as I had hoped. I went in with a vague idea of what I was looking for with respect to the groupset and a few other components but they helped fill in the areas where I had no idea quite nicely. While never trying to sell me the most expensive stuff possible (because I was definitely willing to spend money on this build). I was updated and given options at every step. It took a week and a bit to get all the parts in and another day and a bit to lace the wheels and finish the build. So I'd have to say my experience has been great. Thanks again! read more

Knowledgable mechanics. Good place if you are doing any modifications out of the ordinary or building a custom bike. I've used them twice. On a recent modification they did for me the mechanic called halfway through to ask specifics of how I wanted the bike set up. Their prices are reasonable. I would have given them 5 stars, but the store is crowded and cluttered with cardboard boxes, etc., and you can wait a while before anyone talks to you. read more

The guys helped my out of a problem. My Reynolds wheel hub was slightly damaged from a freehub replacement a while earlier. It was not moving completely freely and I was worried that the damage would worsen with friction, or at worst , seize up the wheel. They took the wheel in, gave me an honest assessment, not promising a miracle, but told me they'd try their best, and kept it in the shop to work on it. It took a while, but they meticulously smoothed out the surfaces and put it all together as good as new. All issues are now undetectable, and it saved me hundreds on a hub replacement and wheel rebuild. The cost came in MUCH lower than I was expecting, and I rode off wile a big smile. Knowledgeable bike shop with the best mechanics in the city. They don't care if they sell you a bike, and if you're looking to get the RIGHT bike between your legs they'll make it happen and will work to make a custom bike perfect which takes adjustment and modification and some time. If you're looking for a great deal on last years specialized, it's the wrong store. Mighty Riders? Mighty Wankers more like. Tried them once. Never again. Had worn out tires on my hybrid; was talked into a pair of tires I didn't want. I told them I used tire liners and to be sure to put them in the new tires. When I picked it up at their appointed time, I had to wait while the beer-drinking staff finished the work (store still open). A week later I got a flat. Checked it- no liner. I opened up the other tire- the liner was installed incorrectly. A few years later the tire I didn't want blew out the sidewall. Bought the pair I wanted @ Jett Grrl, I'm back on the road again... read more

I'd give them an epic negative rating if I could. Total hipster run local bike shop. Not only does the staff give you the snobby hipster attitude, but also their compadres that hang out there all the time. If you want to keep your sanity, have your bike repaired correctly, buy a new bike cheapest way possible, then Mighty is NOT that bike shop. Stay away from them like a plague!! Unfortunately I found out too late. I spent $4500 on my dream bike there, solely because they offered the cheapest frameset price. Six months and many upgrades and mechanic services, later I finally got my bike. It took so f&")&@ forever solely due their complete ineptness. Stay away!!! read more

This is a bike shop that one can trust. Ed has helped me several times in resolving problems. Ed found the proper part and it has been running without a problem. Also, he did a fantastic wheel build. read more

They do have good prices, but it's not worth the sketchy business. I ordered one thing and paid for it, and I kept having to check up to make sure they were actually putting what I wanted on the bike. They seem to take the liberty of deciding what they think should be important to me rather than listening to what I've said is important to me. I'm not saying to not buy from them. They do work the best deal that I've found, but make sure you keep an eye on what is actually going on. read more

Mighty is a great shop. True, when you walk in the door it isn't beautifully laid out and there are no fancy display cases a la Campione - it's actually kind of a cluster in there a lot of the time and you might have to pick your way around boxes of newly arrived inventory to get to the counter. They don't have every size of every frame in stock - BUT, they also won't just try to sell you whatever they DO have in stock. Ed or one of his lads will talk you through your needs and desires, and then give a few options for what they believe will work best. Can you find a better price on tubes or [specific part x] online? Likely. But if you're looking for guidance and quality of service rather than the absolute rock bottom price, Mighty is a great shop. Having said that, you might need to follow up once or twice even if they've said they'll call you. Sometimes things slip through the cracks and a customer doesn't get the callback they were told they could expect. It's definitely an area for improvement. But they'll bend over backwards to get you the best option for your needs and budget. They also have fantastic wrenches working there and can help you out with a weird build or fix something that would stop most other shops in their tracks. Mighty isn't perfect but they are a GREAT bike shop that does everything in their power to get the right bike under the right rider, or fix whatever problem that might have brought you in. read more

I was walking to MEC and saw the shop and went in for the first time just to browse. I am new to Van and was researching bike shops and had previously read some negative reviews so wasn't sure what to expect. However, Ed, the owner greeted me and we talked bikes for about at least a half an hour without him trying to sell me anything. Seems to know his stuff and at least at this time, was really nice to deal with. I like the fact they carry my favorite brands of bikes: Gunnar, Surly, Soma and Salsa. I know this isn't a very accurate review since I didn't have any service performed but at least wanted to post my positive experience. read more

Best retail bike shop in Vancouver, hands down. This is a no nonsense type of place where you will get upsold on things you don't need or get bad information. These guys know what they are talking about and will set you straight, build you an awesome bike or fix whatever you throw their way. Yes, they may sometimes be a little short on pleasantries but if you want overly nice service and people who aren't knowledgeable there are plenty of other bike shops in the city to check out. I have had several bad experiences from this store. - I bought a bike from them last year. Once they had my sale, they were quick to get me out the door, without a proper fitting. The (disc) brakes howl, and they won't replace the pads. They re-used bar tape from a showroom bike, which wasn't installed correctly. They overcharged me $30 for a part that I custom ordered. - Being that I accept people make mistakes, I took a different bike in for a standard tune-up. They quoted me $75. When I went to pick it up, the price was $150, because they had replaced all the cables, all the housings, as well as the bottom bracket, without calling to confirm. When I took the bike out, the gears didn't shift properly and the brakes weren't properly adjusted. - I took my purchased bike in for a follow-up warranty tune-up. When picking up, the gears still didn't shift property, the brakes hadn't been adjusted, and the wheel was still out of true. I also had a follow-up warranty fitting. They attempt a 'one size fits all' fitting, don't listen to my fit problems, and attempt to shoo me out the door. Get it together Mighty Riders or your incompetence will get the better of you. read more

I can understand why some people are turned off by Mighty Riders. In the past, I too have encountered somewhat crusty behaviour from some employees. With that said, the owner, Ed, is a very approachable, helpful guy and has always been a pleasure to deal with. Also, if you're looking for cyclocross specific gear/advice, Mighty is the place to go. Generally speaking, the shop did very nice work getting my bike up to snuff. What turned me off to going back was that when I dropped it off, I was told I needed new brake calipers and cables as mine were old and not safe. No problem, Ed looked up what would work and showed me some Shimano's at $76 per wheel. When I picked the bike up though, they put $140 per wheel brakes on? No phone call to approve, they just upcharged me like this. I'm so tired of this type of BS. Shop around, many bike shops options in town. read more

Wow I cannot Believe the reviews on here. Not my experience at all. I am the furthest thing from a hipster. I have never been ignored quite the opposite actually. I walked in one day after I haven't been in for a few months and I'd only been once before that they remembered my name and the type of bike that I ride They were quick to answer my immediateconcerns I am a 50-year-old plus gay man 50-year-oldwho knew very little about cycling If they were going to ignore anybody one would think it was going to be me Everybody from Patrick working on my bike to the team upfront to working out the best possible prices he could. The bike fits I have received have changed my rides significantly I go in regularly to be refit. When there are only minor adjustments to be made They reduce the rate. I am currently sporting new rims which were a fairly costly investment but I was assured it would change the ride I literally feel like I have an entire new bike. Last time I was in I was discussing some of my cycling goals and even got some training tips that will help with keeping my current goals. I have been in when guys on the floor have been encouraged to cut discussion short with customers this usually only happens after been with them for a prolonged period and there's other customers waiting. That seems logical approach to business to me. I bought my bike at Pacific cycle and the fit and advice that I got was less than helpful As I mentioned I know very little about cycling or at least I did and I'm just learning ....seriously I have nothing but good say things to say about everybody I've worked with at Mighty Riders. I could imagine that a lot of people would come here to get advice from the experts and then go shop around Perhaps that's where some of the animosity in some of these comments come from???? I agree with Darren B & am now calling this shop the Mighty Wankers. I made the unfortunate mistake of buying a Brodie Dynamo there, was not properly fitted, and have had to bring the bike in 5 times over the past year because the brakes have not worked properly. I ride my bike about 5 hours per week, and after a year they are now telling me my drive shaft is shot (of course that's not under warranty). I told them I was having back and neck difficulties & they only had 2 riser bar options, put one on & didn't check to see if the bike fit me any better (it doesn't). I went in with a list of repairs & the primary one was a clicking right pedal every single time I pedal. Was it fixed when I left? Nope! The worst customer service I have ever experienced in any store of any kind whatsoever in Vancouver. I have another year's warranty, am currently unemployed & will not be back. I am choosing to go to a shop that gives a shit about their customers and will pay them $$ that I really don't have right now because I cannot bear to step foot in Mighty Wankers. I am telling everyone I know not to shop there. read more

My story is fairly short. I had heard good things about Mighty Riders and was looking for a new, relatively expensive wheelset. I went there, talked with Ed a bit and put the order in. The rear wheel was built and delivered in about 3 weeks, close to what was promised. The front wheel wasn't. After several phone calls and 3 months, I finally got the wheel. That in and of itself isn't great, but it was due to a problem sourcing the requested hub. Not great, but it happens. Waiting this long to admit, 'we cannot get this hub anymore' was not great, but at least it eventually got fixed. Switching the hub and the wheel was built up a couple of days later. A couple of months later, I've now put 1500km or so on the wheel and I noticed a rattle after a ride this weekend. 3 random spokes around the wheel have popped loose, with one coming completely off. I'm not overly heavy and I did not hit anything. That just shouldn't happen. read more

Walked in and saw the bike I wanted on the show floor (someone's recent build waiting for pick up). Was fitted then ordered my Surly Long Haul Trucker from Ed and have the best bike and best fitted bike I've ever owned. Positive experience all around. Ed's a pretty straight forward, no-nonsense kind of guy and he knows a lot. You're not going to get a generic shopping experience here. The shop and it's function reflects Ed to a T: a bit messy, a little scattered, mildly frustrating at times, super high amount of knowledge, and a big big heart under a rough exterior. Honestly, the man has two rescue chihuahua's that come to work with him every day and he adores them. read more
