This veterinary office has cared for my beloved cat friends, Argus and Solstice, since they were kittens, and they provided compassionate care for my sweet little Bunbun (English Angora rabbit) until she passed of natural causes. Very inflexible. We have had a stray cat living in our yard for 2 months. I tried to do the right thing and take it to the vet, but we struggled to get the cat in a carrier the morning of the appointment. We called before the appointment time. I had just moved up here when one of my elder kitties started getting sick secondary to his heart condition. By chance I got the last appointment of the day at Edgewood. When I noticed a second elder slightly limping, they allowed me to bring her in as well. When I got there, my 18 year old BooBoo was going into respiratory distress. He was assessed very quickly by the vet techs and moved to the treatment room where he was stabilized. Dr Kimball, having reviewed the records sent to him from my previous vet, gave me a realistic prognosis and the different options available for his care. I sadly chose to send BooBoo to the Rainbow Bridge as it was clear that none of his problems were reversible. Dr Kimball make an unendurable situation easy to bear because of his utmost patience and kindness. I am thankful for the love everyone showed to my other elder, Susie, while she was being treated at Edgewood. She was treated with affection by all the staff, and Dr Kimball would educate me about all aspects of her care. Being able to learn and be informed made decisions more clear and easy to make. I CANNOT thank every single person at Edgewood Animal Clinic enough for their sincere caring and precise expertise in treating my kitties. And unlike many vets, they know how to support the frantic, despairing pet parent as well ! I am now extremely grateful to have found the perfect vet and vet office for my kitties. Dr. Kimball is now being investigated by the Oregon Veterinary Examining Board for his actions regarding our dog Aífe. We have been clients at Edgewood Animal Clinic since since Dr. Sandy Smalley founded it in 1994, and about a dozen of our pets have been treated there in those 23 years. So we know what good veterinary care looks like. We took our 2 1/2 year old, healthy dog, Aife, to Edgewood to be spayed by Dr. Jason Kimball on Tuesday May 23rd, 2017. Just before surgery, Dr. Kimball suggested an optional surgery, a gastropexy. He let us know it was a simple, easy surgery. Ten hours later she went into cardiac arrest and died with a large amount of blood in her chest at Eugene Emergency Vet Hospital. EVH discovered a deep incision in Aife's chest and a large amount of blood surrounding her lungs. The cause of death was "exsanguination" - in other words, our healthy vibrant young dog bled to death. We have received sympathy cards from former Edgewood staff and Dr. Sandy Smalley, but heard nothing from Kimball or the current Edgewood staff. read more

I needed to find a vet for my 16 year old cat. I dragged my feet for quite a while because who the heck ever wants to go to a new vet? Anyhow my cat developed a lump and I decided to try Edgewood. I saw Jason Kimball and I have to say he was really nice. As a cat person I hate it when a vet is loud or openly enthusiastic (which works well with dogs but not with cats). Dr Kimball spoke and moved softly like a good cat vet should. He listened to me and broke it to me gently that the lump was bad. He respectfully discussed my options and gave intelligent thought to my questions. I also really appreciate that he was candid about how difficult that particular lump would be to operate on, and that it was likely cancer but he couldn't tell for sure without running expensive tests. He let me steer the choice that my cat was 16 years old and the trauma of operating with a dicey outcome might not be the kindest thing to do. But at the same time I feel like if I had wanted to proceed he would have also supported me in that choice as well. I highly recommend him based on this experience :) read more

Dr Kimball is really an exceptional doctor. We've seen him now for about six months. And, my experience him and his staff have been wonderful to the point that I wrote a raving review for this clinic. Today, I had to call to let Dr Kimball know a possible negative reaction my senior dog is having with her medication and was greeted by a very unpleasant woman who talked over me and was then rude. Her attitude doesn't belong in veterinary medicine. When people call up is usually a health concern for their beloved pet. The last thing anyone in such situations need is to feel unwelcome and treated with the lack of respect and courtesy. While I was telling her for just 20-30 seconds what my dog was experiencing on a medication prescribed by Dr Kimball, she lost patience and raised her voice on me. While I understand everyone has a bad day now and then. But, I just don't understand how this person ended up with phone duty when clearly she doesn't have the customer service skills required for being the front line representative of a veterinary clinic. I'm deducting one star for this horrific experience and that's being generous and kind. I really hope I'll never have to speak to this woman again on the phone read more

I took my dog there because he was having trouble with his eye. They diagnosed him with a abrasion to his eye. After getting home and calling them back to see if a eye medicine I had for myself would work for him, which it turned out it did not, I had them call in the prescription for him. It took three calls back to them and two days before they actually called it in correctly. Then the next day I was having dinner around 6:00-7:00 in the same areas they "run' their establishment and they threatened to call the authorities because my dog was in my truck with all four windows rolled down with a full bowl of water. I must assume at this point that their bigger concern is what to do with the the time they have on their hands when they are not actually doing their job then actually giving the care to their clients and pets that are needing it. read more

From my own personal experience it feels to me as if staff and vets care more about monetary gain than client experience and quality professional care. I had scheduled a leptosporosis vaccine for my puppy over the phone. When I arrived for my appointment my pup was rushed into the back vet room without me BEFORE the procedure was verified. When he returned he had received the wrong vaccine, the flu vaccine which is for a completely different disease. Instead of clinic staff taking responsibility for this mistake I was charged for this vaccine. I attempted to talk to the vet and get a refund as this was not the service I requested, however the vet I spoke to tried to make it seem as if it was my fault. The vaccine given was not due and was given too early to be effective-this is unprofessional and not evidence based veterinary practice. I will not be returning and I encourage other pet owners to choose the more caring vets at Amazon animal clinic instead. read more

Dr Kimball came highly recommended by many of my neighbors. I thought I would give him a try after numerous unsatistfied visits with other vets in town. He is beyond the best vet I've gone to. Didn't rip me off for one thing, is highly skilled, he really knew his stuff. He also genuinly cared about my dog and spent time getting to know him before the exam to try to relax him. The staff at Edgewood clinic are absolutely incredible people! I burst through their doors just minutes after my dog was hit by a car, the two of us were in shock, I was hysterical, and the staff quickly ushered us into the treatment area. Dr. Kimball immediately started assessing the situation, while simultaneously reassuring me. I know I must have made an awful guest, I was a mess, but the whole staff was sympathetic and patient, both me and my dog, Freddy were cared for while we were there. Although they aren't the sort of veterinary office that deals with many trauma-related injuries, their expertise ensured that Freddy will be just fine. Dr. Kimball has a genuine bedside manner, a calm and lighthearted demeanor, and he worked with me as we figured out how best to care for Freddy. The doctor explained everything, (sometimes more than once, I was too upset to think) and he has been very available to answer any questions I have about Freddy's care. Just seeing the way Dr. Kimball held Fred, I knew he would be our new vet for life, he genuinely cares about the animals that he treats.
