Dr. Lindsay McAlister is such a wonderful human being. Our sweet boy, Prometheus, was nearing the end of his adventure here on Earth, and our veterinarian referred us to Dr. Lindsay. We spoke over the phone and scheduled an appointment. Making the decision about when it is time to say goodbye is one of the most difficult things a pet parent will ever face. But sometimes, you just know. We scheduled our appointment for Sunday afternoon, but that morning, Prometheus began declining rapidly. I texted Dr. Lindsay, and she was able to be at our home within 20 minutes. The timing worked out in a way I will always be grateful for. I do want to clarify that I am not suggesting she is on call or always available for emergencies. However, I encourage anyone considering her services to have an open conversation with her about availability and what options may exist in an emergency. The visit itself was calm and peaceful. Dr. Lindsay showed so much compassion and kindness, and her approach was genuinely trauma-informed. She explained the process, walked us through what she would be doing, and made sure we understood what to expect. One thing I would share with other pet parents is that if you are uncomfortable watching injections, it is absolutely okay to look away or step out briefly during the first one. The initial injection can sting because the area is sensitive, and every dog may react differently depending on their individual tolerance and other factors. A reaction does not necessarily mean something is wrong. Just as with vaccines or other injections, there can be some discomfort. Dr. Lindsay was incredibly gentle throughout the process, and I appreciated the care she took with Prometheus. She also gives you all the time you need to sit with your baby, love on them, and say goodbye. There is no feeling of being rushed. When you are ready, she gently completes the transition with dignity, respect, and compassion. Another wonderful thing about Dr. Lindsay is that she offers aquamation, an alternative to traditional cremation that uses water-based processing. Having that option was meaningful to us. As heartbreaking as this experience was, I can honestly say that everything came together as it needed to for Prometheus. The timing, the peaceful environment, and the compassion Dr. Lindsay showed our family made an incredibly difficult day a little easier to bear. Saying goodbye is never easy, but having someone who treats your beloved pet with such tenderness and respects the bond you share makes a world of difference. I am so grateful Dr. Lindsay was there to help us give Prometheus the peaceful, dignified goodbye he deserved. read more

Dr McAlister was the epitome of amazing. She is competent, forth coming on what to expect, patient, and overall loving of the population she serves. She quietly entered my home after meeting my boy Milo outside. He came inside and became comfortable with her. I didn't want to delay the inevitable. Sedation was given quickly yet cautiously. I was able to hold, cuddle, kiss, and talk my boy through his journey of the sedation. His fasciculations of his tongue made me think he was still kissing me through the process. When I was assured he's sleeping comfortably went to the second stage. With him wrapped tight in my arms and me covering my eyes to watch the next step, it was effortless and quick. Dr McAlister quietly pronounced his time, shortly after the injection. She allowed me all of the time I needed with him. I did my own footprints, snoot prints and I never felt rushed. I was able to wrap him in his own blanket to cross the Rainbow Bridge in. When I need this service again, I won't hesitate to ask this professional to live my pets as I did. read more

We had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to our beloved 18-year-old kitty this week. Dr. McAlister made a very sad and difficult day a little easier to bear. She explained in simple terms how everything would work, and gently guided us through the process with compassion and care. The greatest gift I could have given my little guy was to be able to pass peacefully in familiar surroundings at home instead of during a stressful trip to the vet, and I am incredibly grateful that I was able to do that. Thank you so much for caring for our beloved one. read more

This business doesn't even bother to answer their phone calls. How can you even get ahold them to do business with them, let alone if you a sick dog or cat? read more

Dr, McAlister was prompt, professional and caring. She greeted our dog, and when it was time, she gave Beans an injection of sedative.....and it calmed him and got him to sleep. She gave me the time alone with him. When he was completely asleep, she returned and gave him the final IV injection that sent him to heaven. Beans wasn't afraid, and he wasn't in pain......and now he's in heaven. Dr, McAlister was as good as it gets, and we have gone through this several times over the years. Thanks you so very much, for Beans and from me. Still crying, but so grateful for her help. Eileen read more

Response was quick. She asked all the relevant questions up front. The person who came was just very kind and patient. I don't think we could have made my big boy any more comfortable and we were so happy we went this route. Prices are very affordable and as well. read more

Dr McAllister has helped us with the passing of two cats. We are truly grateful for what she does and how she does it. Could not ask for a more gentle and professional veterinarian in these situations. 100% recommended. read more

my precious 16 1/2 old doh Bella, it was time for her to go to a better place. Lindsay was great, understanding with her communication before. she explained the details BUT when she gave the 1st injection the sedation, which was the last moment my girl was aware. Lindsay injected her so hard and deep Bella yelped. I've read reviews of how gentle she is. this lasting moment has magnified what a horrible experience this was for me and my little girl. she went in pain. I'd recommend reinforcing to BE GENTLE before you have her start. read more

I can't say enough how appreciative my family is to Dr Lindsay in this great time of sadness as we said goodbye recently to our dog of 11 years. Having the ability to do this process at home vs the cold and sterile environment of a vets office was tremendous. Our dog was able to pass in his own bed, stress free, with his loved ones by his side. It was as peaceful and pain free of a farewell that anyone could ask for. Dr Lindsay has a very gentle approach throughout this process, and her calm demeanor was very welcoming. We are so very grateful for her making such a sad event in life as pleasant as possible considering the circumstances. read more

Lindsay handled an incredibly emotional and difficult situation with such care and tenderness. This is a situation no one wants to be in and I am so grateful that people like her take the time to do this kind of difficult work. If you find yourself in the unfortunate circumstance of needing to put your beloved pet down, trust that you and your animal are in good hands with Lindsay. read more

We don't have a lot of experience with them, other than they performed in home euthanasia on our Sam. Our pos vet wouldn't do in home. You'd think 25 years with the same vet would earn a little more consideration. Anyway, Heart and Home was great. She explained the procedure, gave us time to say goodbye and fall apart. Took care of everything respectfully and professionally. read more

I have a 10 year old with stage 3 chronic kidney disease. Lindsay came to my house the same day I contacted her to do a quality of life assessment for my kitty. The amount of kindness and compassion that she showed was unmatched! You can tell she really has a passion for what she does. She was able to give me an outsiders perspective on how my cat seems to be doing and left me with a lot more knowledge and confidence in my abilities as a pet parent then I had started with. I would recommend her services whole heartedly, I wish I could thank her again. read more

Putting our sick cat of 14 years down was the most difficult decision my husband and I had to make. We were so grateful to have discovered Heart in Home. Dr. Lindsay was fantastic! So gentle and kind, a real calming presence. It was so much better than having to put her down at a vet clinic where she would have been stressed out. It was much more comforting for my husband and I to be at home too, since we were an emotional mess. I highly recommend this service! read more

The service Lindsay provided was the best we could have hoped for. Our dog was nearing the end of her long life, we had Lindsay come to our home. she walked us through the procedure (sedation and then euthanasia), then proceeded through it. She answered any questions we had, made sure our dog was comfortable until the very end, and stepped away giving us private time with our dog in her last moments. She made it much easier for our family to say goodbye to our best friend. Thank you lindsey for your kindness and empathy. read more
