I have no complaints whatsoever about the quality of care that my cat received from the vets at West Eugene Animal Hospital; it has always been great, and I trust their ability to diagnose and treat my cat's medical problems. In one case, I was even given an article that explained in depth what was going on, which was very helpful. They are caring, prompt and efficient. The only issue I have had concerns their charges. First, the cost of prescribed meds which they sell seems quite high. For example, I obtained some calming cat treats from them for ~$33, only to find later that I could get the same thing from Amazon for ~$24. Secondly, for routine immunizations from WEAH there is a charge for the appointment, an exam, and the vaccine, which adds up to a lot. Consequently, I take my cat to the 1st Ave. clinic for his immunizations for a fraction of the cost. read more

My family and myself have been coming to this office for over 30 years. The law states that they are required to fill my pets medicine for a full year before having to be seen. However, Dr. Larsen refuses to refill his meds at this time. My dogs year ends on the 15th of January. I've been trying for over a week. This place has turned into a money sucking machine. If his year ends on the 15th that would mean I would have, by law, 2 more weeks of medication. They'll refill if I come in before his year is up. I'm saddened to see this happen. I have been a devoted customer of WEAH for many years - several decades even. They seemed to be knowledgeable and take good care of our animals. In recent years pricing has gotten predatory. We have had a number of significant instances in the last year or so that felt like a bait-and-switch. In the case of neutering our dog the cost was double what we were quoted. We had a similar experience with getting a cat spayed. The fee structure and billing have also gotten more opaque - it's much harder lately to predict and understand what I'm actually paying for. Today I went in to pick up a new flea medication and the cost was staggering. The only information I was given originally about this medication was the cost per dose but no mention of a minimum purchase of six months of doses. I also feel that this establishment is relying on the fact that the annual checkup is required before prescribing anything and so they can inflate the price of the checkup, which looks to be about double what other establishments charge. read more

I recently had to bring my cat into WEAH for immediate care, and we had nothing but kind and attentive care from them. They worked with me on different care options, helped him out with some medication and hydration, and a couple of prescriptions. Those ended up not working for him, as he was just too ill at that point. Cats in particular, tend to be very stoic, and he really was, considering all the conditions he had going on, as it turned out. It was not the medications or the treatment at the hospital that failed him, nor was it a lack of care on my part, but he ended up dying a few days later of the multiple conditions affecting him. This hospital was very good about every aspect of this hard experience, and I feel confident in recommending them highly. Expensive? Of course! It's a Hospital! Why do people seem to feel veterinary services should be cheaper all the time? Doctors and hospitals are expensive for everybody. They give you an estimate of costs before the care, and an idea of costs as you go along, so there are no surprises. Love your animals while you have them, and show your vets some respect, because they deserve it. read more

I have been taking my cat there over the course of his life, about 6 years, and didn't have much of any issues with the care he has received there. Over the past year or so, my cat has developed a condition to the point that he is taking off patches of hair through obsessive round the clock licking. The flea meds that he was on seemed to have stopped working, and every time I would give it to him, the licking would get more intense and fleas would show up. So I took him in and I felt like they were shaming me for not knowing that this was a flea issue, not a skin allergy (like I was assuming), even though I told them the meds weren't working. They said I may have applied it incorrectly (I've applied it the same way for years), and they again prescribed the same flea meds that I was claiming caused some type of reaction. I believed them, because I hadn't really had any issues with them before, and gave him the same flea meds again, waited a month to no avail (I even popped into the office and asked him why it wasn't working, they said it can take up to 3 months to take effect, even though it's the same flea meds I had been giving him for years?) and my cat was still super uncomfortable, so I took him back in again for a vet visit. It truly felt like I was talking to a brick wall when I explained this situation to the Vet (for the second time) The only thing they could say is that "they had heard that Bravecto wasn't as effective lately for some people" which is what I had been telling them for a FULL YEAR now. I have spent so much money there for them to do absolutely nothing, not even offer an allergy test or anything, and my poor cat is the one who suffers. It honestly feels like they're just throwing darts at the wall in order to diagnose these animals sometimes, that or they're in a rush. Please work on your bedside manner, WE Animal Hospital and try to LISTEN to your clients as they are paid customers. The fleas are FINALLY fully gone (it was immediately after they "suggested" lol that I switch his flea meds, they miraculously disappeared). He is going to a new vet this week in order to get some straight talk, as he is still itching and licking just the same amount, even after the new successful flea meds. I would advise that if you're in need of simple pet care, this place is convenient, but any condition that might require a bit of real diagnosing, avoid like the plague and take your cat elsewhere. read more

On February 26, 2023, I called to have my 16-year-old miniature dachshund put down (she recently lost her vision in her right eye and had gone from 13 pounds to 8 pounds in about one month), my appointment was to be at 4:00 PM on Friday March 1st, that way my son would be able to be with me for support. On March 1, just before two o'clock at my apartment, my sweet dog had a seizure. My son called me while it was happening, he told me he was on his way to my apartment. We left with the dog at about 2:10 PM. While driving to the Vet my son phoned the office that my dog had a seizure, and she was in a lot of pain, and we did not want to wait until 4:00 PM. They said they could work her in, but there would be a fee. When we got to the Vet, there was no other vehicles in there parking lot, we walked in the waiting room, there was no one else in the waiting room. We were put in a room at about 2:25 PM (one hour and 35 minutes before my appointment). Everything was over a little before 3:00 PM. The bill came to a total of $453.47. The work in fee was $96.33. I was told that they would give me a senior discount, but the bill receipt did not show that. I went back to the Vet today, March 15th to pick up my dog's ashes and asked about the senior discount, they refunded me $10.36 (the 5% senior discount did not apply to the $149.89 cremation fee or the $96.33 work in fee). I do not have good feelings about that "work in fee", it seems they are more interested in money than anything else. I am sorry, I just can't recommend them! read more

I contacted West Eugene Animal Hospital to schedule a first visit for my two new kittens, one of which seemed to be in fairly poor health. We had to schedule about a week out but as I voiced a few of my concerns the receptionist offered to squeeze me in so that the vet could see the worse off kitten that evening. The wait was a little long, but we all must remember that these doctors, techs, and receptionists are not sitting in the back twiddling their thumbs. If they are taking a long time with your animal it is because they are busy helping other animals. The tech was very friendly when she called and answered all of my questions very patiently (and I had a lot of them). They were very kind and gentle when they came to grab her and after they were finished the vet came out to speak to me. The actual exam took some time and the vet apologized and thanked me for my patience. They also offered me some free cat treats because of my wait. She made me feel comfortable about calling with questions and concerns. I had some concerns the day after our appointment so I called before they opened and left a message. Within 30 minutes they returned my call and gave me all the information I could have wanted. Their COVID system is perfect and makes me feel very safe. Also, you get to see all kinds of cute animals coming in and out while you wait in your car. I feel lucky to have found this place! I was very happy with the service and the overall experience. my wife and I have been going to Eugene animal hospital for over 37 years. the last few visits have felt like we've been taken advantage of and held hostage for things we didn't feel we needed to get the services required for our pets. today was the final straw. we adopted two dogs from South Korea that were rescued from a dog meat factory. They are brother and sister, and a bonded pair that had to be adopted together. They are the same age and have had all the same vaccines and vet visits together. I went in to buy their flea treatment and was told that the girl dog had to have a check up before they would sell me the flea medicine. This is what I mean by being held hostage. How can one of my dogs that has had identical care at the same time need an annual checkup and the other not? this vet has been trending this way for sometime and we are now shopping for a Veterinarian that isn't using needed medications for leverage to get more money from us. They literally barely touched my dog, the last time the vet didn't even put my dog on the table, when we were there for his chin acne. A trifecta of scenarios combined and resulted in an anxiety ridden dog who was inconsolable...One phone call and the doc called in a Rx for me while I was out of town. We unfortunately had to visit West Eugene Animal on a bad occasion. Our normal vet was closed due to the snow. Our poor cat Pandora was sick and we needed some end of life care. West Eugene took us in and provided top care for the hardest decision any pet owner makes. Dr. Kristin Hewitt was a very compassionate and caring. This is my local vet, and the staff is great! Everyone is very friendly and they finish everything very promptly. My dog was scared in the lobby, but as soon as she met the vet tech and vet, she relaxed and enjoyed their care. I feel like the vets are always honest and they don't overcharge me for anything. I should know, I worked the front desk of a Banfield hospital for two years. I got one free flea med dose for my dog's first checkup! Love this Vet office... ! Just moved from California to Eugene and have not yet found a veterinarian for my four French bulldogs. This morning I woke up to one of my dogs face ( lips, right eye and cheek ) swelling. Very obvious she was experiencing an allergic response to something. I grabbed her and started heading out to find a vet. While on the way I called West Eugene Animal Hospital and they were able to squeeze us in due to her allergic reaction. The doctor was very thorough, gentle and kind. He asked questions, as well as discovered an ear infection. We had to come here as our 12 yr old beagle was suffering. They got us in relatively quickly and were very kind and understanding. When my cat developed pyometra, they took her in for the soonest possible appointment while also working to book around my chaotic work schedule. They explained to me exactly what was happening to her, and the measures we needed to take. They doted on her while she was in their care and kept me regularly updated on her status while she stayed with them pre- and post-op. She hasn't been so sweet and calm with other appointments since then - the techs and assistants have told me countless stories about how she bit and scratched, all the while grinning and telling me how cute lovely she is! These people care about your animals, they want nothing but the best possible outcome. Additionally, their appointment reminders are amazing! They send out a postcard with your pets photo. Mine happens to be my cat licking her chops.... it's very fitting and I love finding it in my mail. This is just one of the small things they do to make you feel welcome as a patient/client. This place is total trash and greedy. My cat was diagnosed by their records as having hyperthyroidism. And she needs a special food that needs a vet (them) to sign off on. But they refused to do that after a year since they need another 1 year check up. This is terrible policy they KNOW SHE IS HYPERTHYROIDIC BUT YET fail to provide the prescription. Their check ups are over 100 dollars I can't afford that. Cats don't sudden;y become un hyperthyroidic. This place is the epitome of greedy and uncaring. We used the Emergency Vet Clinic for our momma who had developed a metastasized breast when her puppies were about 5 weeks old. It was a BUSY night. They did a great job take our pets by their seriousness of injury. When we got back to the patient room all staff were great to work with and all apologized for our waiting. They diagnosed our girl quickly, gave my husband options with an appraisal and explanation for each option. Once we picked out option they printed out an invoice, which we had to pay up front, of the procedures and total costs for our momma. Our girl stayed over night and we were called letting us know how she was doing and time to pick her up. The most AMAZING thing when we picked her up. We were REFUNDED almost $400.00 as not all procedures were necessary. I would highly recommend The Emergency Vet Hospital. read more

If I could give negative or zero stars, I would. Worst vet in Eugene and by far the worst vet I have EVER had the pleasure of dealing with. I can't tell you where you need to take your beloved pet, but I can certainly tell you where NOT to take them. It is this place. Absolutely horrible. I had to ask repeatedly why I was sent an invoice after not going there for over 2 months. I got the $205 bill via text message on 8/8/23. I've never been late on a bill and I've always paid in full. (Even the $3,000+ surgery was paid for on the spot, in full.) I have now received a paper invoice saying that my "bill" is now 30 days past due. They wanted to keep charging me for an operation that never healed, then got infected. They accused the kennel that watches our dog of letting our dog get bit by another dog in the stomach in the EXACT same spot that the incision on her stomach was at. Unless the dog that bit her had teeth as sharp as a medical scalpel. Etc etc. The kennel is not a communal kennel so I know that didn't happen. Then this vet clinic told me they would work with me since the incision never healed, then tried to charge me for a bag of dog food they never gave me (over $100 per bag) and the ABX for the infection she got from the surgery as well as the culture. I was told repeatedly that they would contact me. That never happened. I had to hound them repeatedly in order to make sure it got taken care of. In person, over the phone, and email. They seem to care more about your money than your pet. South Willamette Veterinary in Cresswell is amazing - I highly recommend them! Pleasant Hill animal hospital was awesome until they merged with West Eugene Animal Hospital. That's where the downward spiral began for this company. So glad to finally be done with them. read more

It is unfortunate I have to write this review. I have been to this practice for years with multiple cats. Several months ago I brought my 14 year old cat in for her yearly check up and blood work and I could hear her screaming in the next room followed by silence. It was 10 minutes of me sitting in the exam room alone with no one to come update me as to why she was screaming or if she was okay. That was very stressful. When they did bring her back Dr. Seyler was present. He is amazing and the only reason I continued to bring her back after her younger sister died during anesthesia there under another Dr's Care. He explained that they were barely able to obtain the blood but did get some. A few days later I received a call stating the blood hemolyzed and they would need another sample. I work night shift and day shift appointments are hard for me to make. Along with that I did not want to bring my cat back too soon as the appointment was so stressful on her and she is getting old and fragile. When I just called them back today to schedule an appointment they informed me since I never got back to them I would have to repay for the blood work and yearly exam. I had bought the wellness package of labs which included a urine and stool sample I was going to bring at her next blood appointment. So I never got any of the 3 labs I paid $180 dollars for and when I talked to the clinic manager she claimed there is a 30 day window without being recharged. This was never mentioned in their calls to reschedule the blood work appointment. She was completely unwilling to work with me and in fact rude about the entire situation. This business is greedy and clearly does not care about the health and wellbeing of my animals. read more

Highly recommend!!! I just had the most pleasant and reassuring experience here. Two days ago I was in tears and feeling manipulated beyond belief at another Vet that made me feel as if I was in car dealership, essentially being told that my cat most likely had cancer, that starting cost were expected at $500 for an initial visit, with their expected worse case scenario being extensively more and Pet Insurance being shoved down my throat like their life depended on it. I've noticed this more and more with vets these days and its been extremely disheartening. The previous vet appointment two days ago retracted a statement that my cat did have signs of an infection and that the course to go would be starting $500 plus cost for exploratory surgery w extensive additional costs after that. The emotional upset and costs could've been astounding and detrimental to my cat. Thank goodness I came to West Eugene Animal Hospital. They are highly efficient. They diagnosed n drained fluid which did show an infection. The relief of the fluid release made a tremendous difference for may cat, I can't comprehend why this wasn't done at the original vet. The staff was kind and this is the first vet that I've felt put treating an animal efficiently and effectively above raking in the profits. I'm walking out of here with a healthy cat, a $69 bill, and a new faith in veterinary care. Thank you to all the staff at West Eugene for taking such great care of my little guy. read more

I came to this clinic after leaving the emergency vet. I wasn't seen at the emergency vet because of other more emergent cases. Dr Larsen was able to see my dog almost right away. He was wonderful. My dog's eye was swollen shut. My dog was feeling somewhat lethargic and was tired. Dr Larsen got down to my dogs level instead of having him move to the table that lifts. Dr Larsen took time to explain things to me and gave me a heads up on things that might happen. There was a fee to see my dog on a last minute basis but that was fair to me and not near the wait time as the emergency vet. Want to have your pet suffer from Heat Stroke?! Choose West Eugene Animal Hospital! We're new in town and thought with all the 5 star reviews this had to be a stand up place. Clearly they aren't when it comes to handling pets and COVID. They're doing curbside service right now and it has the WORST ORGANIZATION. We originally made our appointment for 9:30am on Friday but were called back not even 5 minutes later to have it changed because they double booked. Annoying but it happens and I wanted to go here so I changed to the 4:30pm despite it being much later than what I wanted. Being a new patient, when we made the appointment I made sure to tell them everything about our 4month old labernese and also what car I would be in. The TECH who made my appointment said "make sure to bring all that information with you." That, along with every last vet experience led me to assume I'd be filling out a tad bit of paperwork. I got to the clinic at 4:00pm along with 4 other cars. All of us park along the garage side of the clinic. I'm in the last actual spot, and the rest of the cars blocked the bay doors or were further beyond me to the left. Techs were in and out talking to cars, including the one to my immediate right. I EVEN WAVED AT TWO. Nothing. No one said anything to me. No one acknowledged us. We sat there with the windows down and then around 4:15 I finally rolled them back up for A/C. At 4:17 I call and let Libby the really rude receptionist know I'm here. She asked which car I'm in, and I let her know (again.) She said they'll be out IN A MIN. Finally at 4:34pm I called back and asked why the NEW CAR next to me got their paperwork but I still haven't, and my appointment was at 4:30. She gives me some lame line about how appointments have been on time and they haven't been asking people to come early today.... Ok well I didn't know that I'm new and this is my FIRST EVER APPT HERE. So. And you told me a while ago you'd be out for me dog and now he's HOT. And uncomfortable. She gives me a valley girl "I'm so sorry he's so hot and uncomfortable lll be right out for him but normally no one comes early for curbside." She's literally saying this deadpan. A few min later I watched a tech go to a car on the City View street side and put a clipboard down. I backed out and left. I was so livid at that point that a VET OFFICE was willingly allowing not just my dog but a whole row of animals to sit in cars on an 88° day. It wasn't just mine either. I called back when I left demanding to speak to the manager. I explained why I was so frustrated and appalled at their behavior. She expressed that they had dealt with surgeries this morning, which is why I got moved. I'm fine with that; it's why I was flexible. She explained they're trying to deal with COVID boundaries. I get that too However I worked as a vet tech and our number one responsibility was to the animals. I'm so disgusted that they would allow fur babies to sit in cars. The idea that they aren't monitoring the moment a car lands in their parking lot as a a potential client that needs to be extracted from a vehicle is disgusting and frankly not what I expected from such a highly ranked veterinary office. Care for your clients should come first. Not complaining about how busy you are, and how hard it is. If your heart isn't in what you're doing you're in the wrong line of work, ladies. And the office manager has the audacity to tell me she was "disappointed in me" for choosing to bring this to her attention. read more

Staff seems to be disorganized as we have had several problems with them and finally switched vets. I had appointments I scheduled in person and when I showed up, was told I didn't have one by the same person who originally made it (lost work hours). Had issues with getting flea meds approved for online purchase for multiple reasons, including: not being able to find an owner under their name if not "head of household" in their system and they messed up on annual exam (and yet dog was still given vaccinations)and was then lied to that they had gone ahead and sent the approval. These are just a few examples...way too many administrative frustrations that are no longer going to take up our time. read more

We have always had positive experiences at West Eugene Animal Hospital. Fifteen years when our 13 year old cat was having heart trouble I called and talked with at least 6 other vet clinics in town. It's not that they were bad, but WEAH spent 45 minutes on the phone with me, listening, asking and answering questions. When I chose them and showed up with our cat, and the news wasn't good, Dr. Young, who was still there then, after explaining options etc., hugged me in the most appropriate way. Since then we only take our pets there. We are always treated with respect and compassion, and given the time needed to explain health issues. Dr. Larson and Dr. Powers have spent much time on evening calls to us when test results have come in etc. The whole staff has been incredibly caring, patient and friendly. We're giving up on this clinic. We've been bringing our dogs here for almost three years. The vets are ok, most of the staff is friendly, but they need a better "system" to keep track of their records. Numerous times we've brought a dog in for shots, and they forget to record the shot. Or accurately record our purchases for heart worm and flea protection. They also lose track of what shots they should give while at a visit. A week later we receive a notice that they are overdue. They are always frazzled, abrupt and confused at the front desk. In our 40 years of pet ownership, they're the first clinic that has had problems just handling the basics. read more
