I really appreciate how organized and customer-friendly the front desk is. The waiting room is charming, with little snapshots of pets and a small coffee bar. The online portal is fantastic for checking on records or exam notes. And, most importantly, the vet and vet techs who have treated our cats have been not only personable and patient with the humans, but highly knowledgeable and so kind to the animals. After unsatisfactory care at my previous vet, I started bringing my senior standard poodle here. She is prone to bouts of pancreatitis that my last vets were never able to diagnose, but they did quite quickly. The staff is communicative and easy to reach, I am usually only on hold for a couple of minutes. They also are very affordable and were willing to give me donated medication once when I expressed my budget was very tight. I don't expect them to do that every time, but I am extremely appreciative of their efforts to help my dog within my budget. They also were able to get me an appointment same day when my dog was having a bout of excessive and concerning vomiting, and they treated her quickly and she felt so much better afterwards. I was impressed with the entire staff -- they were all very friendly, and very efficient. I called with an urgent request and they not only fit me in on very short notice, but my visit was a breeze. They took excellent care of my cat, and were very loving and gentle with him, while still getting the job done. As a student, my budget is pretty tight, and they were conscientious of my request to keep within budget. As many cat owners have experienced, the vet can be very stressful if they serve other species of patients (as opposed to a feline-only facility). However I found the environment to be relatively quiet and calm overall. I didn't hear any cats meowing in the back, nor barking dogs, etc. a pleasant surprise, honestly. I really appreciated their ability to provide quality treatment on a moment's notice -- and a student's budget. I will definitely be back for future visits with both of my cats! read more

Another visit to Eugene Animal Hospital today for my chihuahua Chewy. He has occasional episodes due in part to his diabetes. He became sick during the night and we called them at 9 this morning to see if the vet (Dr. Jodi) could see him. They were very busy but said if we could drop him off, the doctor would see him when she had a few minutes. Within an hour of dropping him off the doctor called me and told me about Chewy's condition, which was thankfully much milder than previous episodes. We just picked him up and brought him home, with meds and instructions. I swear I would not trust anyone else with my fur baby. I cannot say it enough....the whole staff are compassionate and professional...all the vets I have dealt with are just the best. There was someone at the front desk who was rude in the past, but we're guessing she has been replaced or has left because lately (this year), we've had nothing but helpful and pleasant communication with the receptionist(s). The vet techs we've dealt with have also all been super sweet, kind and gentle with our dog(s). Our dog recently went in for teeth-cleaning and we shuddered a bit at the estimate, thinking it was quite high. We even considered cancelling and doing our best to brush his teeth and/or call around for other estimates. At the end of the day, we decided to go ahead, understanding that costs have gone up for everyone and that we wanted our dog to have the best care. We're glad we continued to have faith in this office because Dr. Polk, himself, called us after it was done and gave an update. They also kept the price below the bottom end of the estimate. We understand this can't always be the case, but we appreciated the outcome, nonetheless. We will continue bringing our pets here because they do care-- and the doctors are good at what they do. read more

Words cannot really express my gratitude towards the Eugene Animal Hospital. I'm going to upload a picture after to help. I researched whom would be most likely to be successful with my friend, Flo, in the realms of small animals and exotics. Eugene Animal Hospital popped up, and it was certainly the right choice. Flo is a spoiled, Organically fed and 25ft square foot outdoor pastured (with regular indoor home too!) Guinea Pig, aged 6 years old. I'm very attentive to her, so I discerned relatively early on that she was in trouble, maybe ovarian cysts. Eugene Animal Hospital (EAH) was fast to schedule her, very reasonable on pricing, stood by their price quotes, accurate, compassionate, did I mention compassionate? and of course, most importantly, skilled. Flo stuck her foot out in her classic chill position when Dr. Jodi took her from me on the day of surgery. It was obvious she liked Dr. Jodi and felt comfortable and trust towards her. Great sign. Flo had a hysterectomy. At 6 years old. That's real old in a guinea Pig. She had a tumor filling her uterus and an enlarged ovarian cyst. The surgery was a success, despite a bladder complication. When her GI stopped up a few days later, EAH saw her late in the day and immediately whisked her off for treatment and gave us meds that fixed her condition. Everything EAH did was directly in line with the best sources I could find for Guinea Pig vet information available to layman on the internet. Did I mention EAH called me twice to check up on Flo and offer to answer questions? Everyone in the office knew of her when I called or stopped by, and all expressed honest care and concern. People normally come to me in suffering, and look to me when animals and people die. I've seen a lot more than your average bear... This was different than letting go, it wasn't time for Flo to go, and EAH conducted a small miracle. I hope the picture sticks to my review, its of Flo back out in the sunshine drinking water and eating grass; a smile on her lil face and the reason to sometimes beat cancer and lumps! read more

Not sure about some of these one star comments especially about poor customer service. I have had nothing but excellent service from them. They are always friendly and cheerful. They seem genuinely interested in my pets and show compassion toward them. Just did a checkup on all three of my dogs and service was quick. I had to recently take one of my dogs back in because we found a lump on her. They did a needle biopsy and everything is ok. It was only $44 for both the visit and the biopsy. All of my dogs are patients at Eugene Animal Hospital for years and under the care of Dr. Morrison and the staff. We always receive warm welcome very caring and professional services. One of my dog has many health and chronic issues and regularly coming in to see the vet. Dr Morrison is very dedicated to her patients and make sure to give her best and most professional care. (she did not even mind getting down onto the floor, checking and smelling my dog's butt to examine the anal glands, I love my dogs but I would never do that). She gives us advices and ensures that our dogs have proper diet. Our dogs are raw feed and when she wants to give our dogs treat (not raw treat), she would check in with us first before giving it to the dogs. Very respectful. I've been going to this vet for over 10 years now. The customer service hasn't been great and they always give me issues about working my dog in to be seen. The front desk had been rude to me multiple times. Today proved to me that the customer service sucks, even the guy doctor was rude. They were going to see my dog today and were going to charge me $75.00 for working him in their schedule. The normal exam fee is $59.00. I wasn't informed that they were going to charge me $75.00 until I showed up. I am very upset. When I told the doctor I will take my dog somewhere else if they can't work with me he said "okay, where can I send your records to?" He didn't even want to try and keep a customer. That shows me that all they care about is the money and not the customers. I will not be going back and I will tell people not to go here. What a bummer you lost a customer. I decided to take my cats here after several years of being an unsatisfied Catcare Ltd client, and so far I've been very impressed. The front desk staff are very friendly and warm and seem to genuinely enjoy customer service . The vet tech who handled my cats was also AMAZING. Never before has anyone been able to take my grumpy calico's temperature without an assistant and gloves (in fact at Catcare one of the vets said she wouldn't try unless the cat was sedated), but this woman just gently put one arm around her and took her temp without eliciting so much as a growl. I was shocked! Dr. Kenna was also good with the cats and solicited my input on how best to handle Miss Grump, which I appreciated and which made the process much smoother. After the appointment she went out of her way to personally follow up with me on the cats' progress and was happy to talk to me on the phone about future treatment options and all the concerns I had. The only reason I am not giving them 5 stars is that the prices are a little on the higher end of the spectrum, but at this point I am willing to pay extra if it means my pets get the level of care they deserve. read more

I've been going to Eugene Animal Hospital for at least 10 years and while we've had some hits and some misses with the staff I have continued to use them because I feel like they are a good hospital with fair prices and we've been well taken care of. Currently I always see Dr. Jim Maddox and I LOVE him, he makes me feel at ease and he's very caring and has given is top notch treatment. I bring my pets to him exclusively. Dr. Morrison heard that my Frenchie was throwing up when we arrived and ran out to bring us in an exam room. Within 30 minutes she and her team did an x-ray, found a ball in the intestine, and hooked Brutus up to an IV with comfortable blankets wrapped around him. Surgery was done just a few hours later. I was able to visit Brutus in the kennel area and it was very clean. They let me sit with him for as long as I liked! This is also my regular, and it's been amazing since day 1 - Brutus even made it on the puppy wall :) read more

Dr Jodi is the best vet! I have a rabbit and it was hard to find reasonably priced vet visits and neuters in Eugene with someone who is also experienced. Her and the office staff were very kind to me and reassuring while he was getting neutered. He also needed his teeth filed during his surgery and she did it for free even though I was quoted over $100!!! My rabbit doesn't like being picked up and he loves her so much he lets her do whatever she wants. She cares so much about her patients and will be my rabbits vet for his lifetime! I was extremely disappointed in Dr. Morrison whom I had taken both of my indoor cats to for couple years. This February 2020 I brought my 11 yr. old neutered male in for tests to see why he was gagging with no results and had been in good health for years. I wanted to find the problem and rectify it.....so she did x-rays and full panel of blood work with no answers. Said he's very healthy and only had enlarged heart......six-weeks later he was throwing up and expelling lots phlegm so rushed him over to see what was wrong. She did the exact same tests, x-rays and blood test with no answers so suggested Ultra-sound. Next still no results so said I could pick up my kitty and take him home waiting for results....when I got him home he was so sadated he was staggering. All afternoon he did not want water nor food and hid out til bedtime when he wrapped himself around me all night with a fever. Wouldn't touch water or food next morning so I rushed him back over to vet to put on IV to prevent dehydration wondering why they let him 'go home when he was so sick! Later that day Dr. Jodi phoned to tell' me Ultra-sound results were not good....that he had massive tumor into his gall bladder and not operable.... could take him home to die or put to sleep. I was shocked that none of this showed up 6 weeks earlier so had no choice to tell them I will have to put him to sleep right away and would come down for last visit. When I got there they escorted me to a small room attached to the outside of the building where they had placed him in carrier on shelf and left. This is not what I expected even tho they had front door locked due to pandemic ...constant barking by little dog other side of wall so I yelled out to quiet dog to no avail. It upset my cat and me as well afraid to take him out of carrier for fear I might not be able to get him back in and having to wait for someone to show up. Left after getting carrier back and final bill which was very high.....charged $60 for overnight plus $76 for IV fluid, $80 Euthanasia along with Ultra-sound and cremation total $654 plus $580 2 days earlier for x-rays, blood panel, injectable drugs plus 2 drugs to take home for continued care (these I returned day he was put down and they refused to give me credit on bill) PLUS $395 six-weeks earlier so total of $1,600. trying to save him. Even wore my facial mask for last visit thinking I was going inside the building but not so. Cruel, cold and indifferent....I wrote letter to Dr., Morrison complaining asking for phone call which was ignored. Horrible experience and wished I had taken him out of there to some place else to die!!! Horrible experience. read more

We had been taking our cat, Bubba, to Eugene Animal Hospital since he arrived, with an eye injury, at our patio door 2 1/2 years earlier. I took him there, based on reviews I read on Angie's List. What a tragic mistake. We took him regularly. Had his shots updated in December, and in February took him there to have his teeth cleaned. One week after they cleaned his teeth, Bubba was euthanized for a massive tumor in his kidney. And that was after I brought him back in. They were clueless as to how sick he was. After being given a few precious last moments to spend with him, "Michele" abruptly came in and started explaining the procedure. No knock. Referred to him as "your kitty." Very impersonal. This was not a quick distemper shot; he was being euthanized. She was rough and clumsy with him. Without warning she turned on the buzz cut electric shaver, which startled us, but it terrified Bubba. She jabbed his leg with the sedative, then said, "oh, darn, busted that artery." His sad little leg was bloody, and he was in pain, and very stressed out. Then the loud buzz razor was turned on again to try his other leg. The whole time, it was physically difficult and awkward as we tried to be near him when he was at his end. I wanted us to be close to him when he drew his last breath. Then she gave him the final injection, and his head went limp and his tongue hung out. I asked if he was already gone. Her response: "I don't know," then after listening to his chest, added "Well, I don't hear anything." That was how he went. Manhandled, botched up, disrespected. We were horrified. We have had the sad experience of having to put a cat down at the Veterinary Hospital at Oregon State, and were expecting something similar: a respectful, gentle and peaceful end. Poor Bubba's final moments couldn't have been more different. His death was brutal. Michele did not appear skillful, but more importantly, she lacked the compassionate disposition to be performing such a profound end-of-life passage. "At least he died with clean teeth" is what they said. If I had known, I would have driven him up to Corvallis just to have him euthanized. I'm heartsick that I put him through such a difficult and irreverent ending. Little Bubba deserved so much better than what he got. I hope my writing this will help one animal, one family, from reliving the same heartache. read more

They recommended bloodwork and gave me a discount as a first time client ('get a vaccine and waive the doctor visit fee"). Got a call this morning that my kitty has early stage kidney failure. Went in to purchase special food he'll need to be on and, to my surprise, no price gauging. It's bad enough to learn that my kitty is declining but I was also bracing for what I thought would be an expensive change in his diet. I had been going to Eigene Animal Hospital for over a year we are retired Military and have finally come home. We have 3 elderly cats a 13 year old Tabby rescue who is a diabetic and a 16 year old Persian who has asthma and high blood pressure and I had a 16 year old Ragdoll that had IBS from an elongated Colon that we had surgically repaired when was about 8 years. He also was blind from having high blood pressure. Dr Jodi had been my deceased cat's Vet but occasionally I would have to see Doctor Morrison and when she saw him it was always well i don't know he's not my patient. Well read his med. File that's what they are for I have never had that happen before. Then when Dr Jodi thought he had pancreatic cancer she did an Ultra sound on a Friday told me she would call me that afternoon or Sat. I did not get a call so i called Monday no info called Tues. Same finally Wed. They told me she had been out of the office all week and would be back Fri. and call me then. I waited and waited do I called Sat and they said she would call me. Finally I got a message on my phone that my cat was dying a message she never talked to me in person or returned phone calls to talk about his prognosis or diagnosis. Very unprofessional. This happened in Spring of 2014. I had an appointment today to have Shadow get a physical due to his age and both boys to get a Rabies vaccination. I have been using this vet since I moved up here about 7 yrs ago. Both boys had seen her, Dr. Cowan at the Eugene Vet Hospital in the past. I don't believe in going to the vets for a yearly check-up - only when something is wrong do I go. In any case, I checked in and low and behold this office worker, not even a vet tech, came to ask me a bunch of questions that had nothing to do with why I was there - such as are they sneezing/coughing, what do they eat, etc (I don't remember what else). I kept telling her the dogs where fine, they had no issues. I asked what importance does what I feed have any bearing on anything since they they have no skin or coat issues and are in great weight/condition - especially since this vet feeds Science Diet and recommend it ( (worst food on the market). Never got an answer for that. BTW, the doctor was outside the rooms and could have stepped over at any time. I don't feel telling some lay person anything, preferring to talk directly to the vet. Just writing an answer down does not really tell all. A lay person could read it one way where a vet might read it another way. After a few minutes of this, I walked up to the counter and told them I changed my mind. I just want Shadow and Nicholas to get the Rabies vaccination with no office visit for Shadow. They escorted me in a room and said a vet tech would be in shortly. Well a few minutes went by and finally someone came in and said because I did not answer the questions like they wanted, they were refusing to treat my dogs.. OMG I have never heard of any vet doing it this way. They obviously changed how they deal with clients and not in a good way. The doctor was in the office area as I walked out and never bothered to acknowledge me or say anything. I also learned that Dr. Cowan is only practicing 2 days a week. I need a vet that is there at least every day should I need to see them. So, on my way out, I told them I would be finding another vet. I have never in my life been treated this way at a vet's office. Now I am off to find another vet ... read more

I am absolutely thrilled at how wonderful the staff at Eugene Animal Hospital are. I feel they really care about me and more importantly my pets. My dog Potato became really ill about 2 years ago and she had to spend a little over a week at the Hospital while they nursed her back to health. The staff was extremely caring for her as well as me and my wife. I just can't say enough about how wonderful they are there. To this day the folks from Eugene Animal Hospital still recognize me and of course Potato. Even when we cross paths outside of the Veterinary office they take the time to ask how Potato is doing. I took two of my three cats here for care. A few weeks later, I received a coupon via email for medications. I needed two applications of a flea medication and ordered it using the coupon. I listed one cat because I didn't realize that it made any difference. I just happened to list the one who had NOT been seen. I was also offered an additional discount on the pharmacy website for ordering a two-pack on auto-renew. Two days later, my request was denied because EAH had not seen my third cat. I called the office to straighten it out and they told me to simply add all the cats to my list. I did so and spend about 30 minutes on "chat" with the pharmacy website trying to maintain my discount and coupon. That fixed, I waited anxiously for the flea medication. I have one cat that has a severe allergy to fleas and she needed her meds as soon as possible. Three days later, when I was expecting to receive the meds, I got an email again denying my request. Because I had included the third cat and they had not seen him. I explained I needed the meds for the other two cats, whom they HAD seen. Again I was denied. The receptionist I talked to was very defensive and seemed unwilling to help me. I was frustrated and impatient. But the vet approved ONE application and it was a dosage way too small for my cat. Back and forth I went from the pharmacy customer service and the veterinarian's office personnel who were becoming increasingly hostile. But this time I was crying with frustration, as was my poor kitty as she desperately scratched! I was told that they would no longer talk to me because of my "attitude!" They acted as though I was attacking them, when I was simply begging for their help. I told them we would not be back and would no longer talk to them. I then went out and found another vet who was able to give me affordable meds the same day, without any grief. (Q Street Animal Hospital). I later received an email from EAH saying they would no longer accept my patronage. I replied, telling them they can't fire me because I quit! Imagine, the nerve. Never again. read more

Dr. Cowan has saved my six year old yorkshire terriers life. She has had a variety of issues and Dr. Cowan has been an amazing resource. My yorkie has had an ongoing skin problem for years and Dr. Cowan was the only doctor to diagnose her and treat her symptoms. I've been to Eugene Animal Hospital twice this week, first for a sick chicken, then for an abandoned pug dog I took in on NYE who had blood in her urine. For the first visit with my chicken, Mildred, we saw Dr. Jaime Thurk. She looked her over and did a fecal test and found she had a bad case of coccidia (a common parasite that can be pretty serious) and prescribed meds to treat all my chickens, along with an anti-nausea to help Mildred feel better because she wasn't eating. I have experience working with birds in a wildlife rehabilitation setting, so she gave me the supplies to give Mildred subcutaneous fluids at home. While at my second visit for my pug, Dr. Thurk walked by and remembered me, and she checked in with me about Mildred and when I told her that Mildred still isn't eating on her own and is fighting me now when I hand feed her, she gave me supplies to tube feed her. I really appreciated her willingness to work with me to find the best treatment for my chicken. Hopefully Mildred will pull through now that I can be sure she's getting enough nourishment. For my second visit I brought in my newly rescued geriatric pug, Peggy Sue, after finding bloody urine on my floor. This time we saw Dr. Rena Cowan. She did a very thorough exam, including an ultrasound to rule out something serious like a tumor, and did a bladder poke to do a urinalysis/urine culture without even making Peggy Sue flinch. As we suspected, Peggy Sue has a UTI and she prescribed antibiotics for her. She also diagnosed a staph infection on her skin that the vet the rescue took her to days ago totally missed, along with tapeworms, and severe dry eye (but thankfully no glaucoma!) Dr. Cowan gave us antibiotics that should help her skin as well as her UTI and also prescribed an eye ointment and droncit for her tapeworms. I had her do bloodwork as well, since she'll need a dental once we've gotten her healthier. Dr. Cowan and the rest of the staff fawned over Peggy Sue and gave her treats after each test. At the vet the rescue took her too, Peggy Sue had been very stressed and panting, but she didn't start panting at all during her exam with Dr. Cowan even though the exam was much more intensive. I asked about their experiences with anesthetizing pugs, since Peggy Sue will need a dental, and they reassured me that they do a lot of pugs and that Dr. Maddox LOVES pugs and works with them all the time, so I think she'll be in good hands. My sweet pup loves Dr. Jodi and the staff at Eugene Animal Hospital! They have been very accommodating - getting in on very short notice on a few occasions when I was particularly worried about my boy. The staff at the front desk light up when they see us walk in - you can tell everyone who works here has a true love of animals. Great customer and family member(my cats haha) service. We had two neuters scheduled and I asked at the intake if they could do something extra. My cats tooth was a tad too long and causing an abrasion on his upper gum. We discussed the options and came up with the idea since it was a fully healthy tooth to shave it down slightly. Since the k9 can literally be cut and still not effect anything the light shaving saved my baby from having to lose his healthy tooth and his abrasion that he has had for months has healed in 3 days. I am thrilled with this office and will not be going anywhere else. They truly care about doing what is best for each individual patient. They take it case by case. I would recommend them for anything from a routine check up, dental, to surgery. Thank you for getting my babies through that. Plus!!!
