Truthful? Absolutely. Before jumping into the the negatives, that you schadenfreude seeking folk crave, I must, MUST confess an unrelenting love for their AMAZING hot chocolate. Its pleasant sweetness and delightful taste single handedly changed a 1.5 star experience into a solid 3 stars. I'd return just to sip that sweet nectar once more. I hope the management uses the feedback as an opportunity to improve. The older gentleman who was our server, initially made a wonderful impression with his passion and knowledge of the menu. We were all primed to believe our elder, he claimed that the burger is "The best in America" straining credibility, but we heard nothing but great things. So perhaps, this would be an experience worthy of a memory. The strong endorsement from such a nice fellow, one poor member of our group ordered the burger. It came with slightly charred (read:burned) english muffin bun, which was quickly replaced upon complaining, but the damage was done. The blame lays less in the burger but in how it was sold...ahem...oversold. The meat patty wasn't a thick as he said it was or truthfully as delicious. It was a fine burger, but greatest burger it was not. Sorry, not sorry. The waiter proceeded to talk how the Panettone takes 3 days to make and it is "only" $25 dollars vs. the far more expensive $50 option at Treasure Island. First of all, when someone goes to a restaurant such as Eden, the talk of money is, well a bit uncouth. I'm not here to save a few bucks, I'm here to set my damn taste buds on fire with delight. Let's not be coarse and discuss financial matters. Kapish? Our party, also had the benefit of trying the breakfast bowl, which was quite a meal, but a lot heavier than you'd expect. Very filling, with a tad too much rice. I'd prefer a lighter fare, but that's just personal preference. To end on a high note, I'd like to compliment the metric coffee which was well balanced. 3 stars, do come and try. I have mixed feelings about this place and although I generally liked the food there were some dishes that fell short. Came here with my parents and aunt visiting from another country. I heard that Eden uses fresh local ingredients and has a dining area with lots of natural lighting so it seemed to fit the bill. The seating areas seemed a bit crammed and the metal tables kept on rocking a bit but overall it had a nice modern airy feel to it and the staff were friendly. We ordered artisanal bread, fluke crudo, crab agnolotti,short ribs, wood grilled sea bass and fried chicken for 5 people to share. I generally don't expect to walk out of the restaurants of these types and feel completely satiated but I was quite shocked at the portion sizes in relation to the price. And the service was a bit on the slower side so we sat around after each bite waiting for our next bite to arrive. Bread was not warm and a bit crusty. I was surprised that they would charge for that type of bread that didn't come out straight from the oven. Fluke crudo tasted ok but the blueberry yogurt-like sauce was unappealing. Crab agnolotti had a good flavor but the portion size was so small. We each only had a bite size of it which was a bit awkwardly. The short rib was only on the tasting menu but they let us order it anyways but I wished they hadn't because it was super dry and lacked sauce in major way. The fish was flavorful but also small compared to the price point. The only redeeming dish of the evening was the fried chicken which was absolutely delightful and everyone in the group agreed. I liked the flavor profile of each dish overall but I really think the portion size was way too small for the price point and the ingredients weren't that luxurious either. If I were to come back I would stick to the fried chicken and pass on the rest. read more

Came last night for date night and was totally blown away. If I have to be critical, it's really 4.8 stars due to some salty dishes. However the ambiance is really cool (check out the first couple pages of the bar menu for an explanation of how every decoration was handpicked for a reason) and the service was outstanding. My water was rarely empty, and our server William was delightful and very helpful. Also the hosts were particularly cheery and fun which is unique because I normally don't remember much about the hosts (no offense! I was a host once too!). I had prosecco and David had Fernetflix & Chill which is not only a cool-Ass drink name but also one of the most complex drinks I've ever tried - peppermint meets savory...just order it! The food: Carrots: yummmm! Smaller dish but lots of flavors. I love carrots and knew I wanted to order this immediately. Less healthy than I was aiming for because it has a lot going on there but I had no ragrets Octopus: this one was delicious BUT salty. I enjoyed the corn and the lettuce in addition to the deliciously cooked octopus. I think the waiter said the octopus was sous-vide and then cooked on wood grill and the flavor showed! I just wish it was a hair less salty - then again I am super sensitive to salt... Salmon croquettes: bomb! Loved them. I expected to crack them open to flaky salmon but that wasn't how it was - it was more like the salmon was built into the filling so when you ate it, you tasted salmon but had a normal bread-like or muffin-like texture. I loved the peppers and sauce accompanying it too. Cumin lamb: guys, I don't even like red meat and I liked this! The meat was SO tender and not fatty. The patties that came were also great quality - felt like I was in an authentic Greek restaurant for a moment! Seafood stew: this one was very salty :( bummer because I love seafood and I love stews and I love flatbread so I was pumped for it but ate very little. It's a hefty portion so I definitely recommend sharing. Mussels were delicious and our market fish was sea bass I believe which was flaky and perf. So basically this dish was a 3.5/4 ONLY because of the salt. Green beans: yummy, but nothing special. Save the money and stomach space for something cooler on the menu. I just wanted more veggies in my life so had to get it. Next time I'd swap this for the beet salad since I love beets. I'd LOVE to return for brunch. It was a joy to have dinner here. The service is top notch. The ambiance is the kind of relaxing that requires actual attention to detail. They did not fall into the trap many do of attempting to appear to be picture perfect for social media posts while letting the actual experience fall flat. And now we've arrived at the raving about the food part of this review. I have never experienced vegetables and herbs this way. It's like I just found out there's a secret world of cooking and these folks discovered it. I took time to savor every bite. We got the burrata, pork tagliatelle, broccoli, carrots, and these inventive and show-stopping lettuce wraps with shiitake and shishito peppers. I actually closed my eyes to let my senses focus completely on flavor and texture several times while I was eating. The cocktails are delicious and beautiful, and the garnishes are beautiful and intentional to highlight the right notes of the cocktail. There's a lavender gin cocktail that was gorgeous to look at, smell, and taste. It was an absolute joy and privilege to come here, which is a wild and over-the-top thing to say about a restaurant, but it's true. read more

We came here last weekend. My husband really like the "new American" vibe. It was a bit in the middle of no where. We finally got out there and the air smelled delicious and the crowd could be heard from outside. We were 15 mins late after a tough time getting our daughter down...and they had already given our table away. The options were the bar or the table right next to the drafty open door. It was disappointing. We sat down at the bar to stay warm. The bar tender was quite busy to take our order and we waited for a while. The place was packed and loud. The good thing about the bar is we were sitting right next to each other so we could hear each other. My husband ordered the duck. The sweet potatoes were very sweet with lots of added sauces and sugar. The duck my husband found to heavy and greasy. I had the seafood chowder which was an interesting complement of flavors and a generous portion of fish. The baguette that was served with was slightly burnt and way too much for the dish. Edan has been one of our staple destinations for years. Recently they moved locations to a larger site which we were interested to try. The evening was disappointing. We arrived early and ordered drinks at the bar. The Martini was terrible, and we waited an extended period to get a replacement. We sat for dinner and were excited by the new menu. Unfortunately, our server was terrible and was less than helpful in menu recommendations or attending to the table needs. Service didn't improve over the course of the evening. Two of the six entrees had to be sent back to the kitchen as they were overcooked. Everyone else had completed their meals by the time the two entrees re-appeared. There was no acknowledgement by the server or management that for a dinner costing $500+ this was not the experience any patron would expect. Chicago has so many great restaurants that there is no reason to waste time at Edan. read more

Eden restaurant is tucked away and is a nice setting. Went to dinner on a Saturday evening so it was a bit noisy, and the acoustics doesn't help with the noise level very much. The food was pretty good. Unfortunately, the server we had was disappointing. We had someone that made us feel like we were an intrusion to his evening. He was very disengaged with us and didn't offer much help with the menu or had any interest in doing so. It took a while for him to come and serve drinks. and didn't provide much assistance on what was on the menu. It made the evening disappointing when you have poor service. From my last experience to this one Eden has changed dramatically. The staff was overwhelmed, but very friendly. The quality of the food went up significantly. The overall experience was great. We had the bread, ceasar salad, roots and shoots salad, chicken, and gnocchi. The bread and butter was great. The ceasar salad had a nice presentation and interesting twist with smoked stewed tomatoes. The roots and shoots had a lot of different flavors I enjoyed. The gnocchi was delicate and tasty. The chicken was fried to perfection (I didn't think the sauce had much flavor, but I could see others loving it). I'm glad we gave this place another try! read more

Food: very good The ahi appetizer was light and tasty and beautiful organic presentation. Loved the celery, tapenade and lemon oil. Delicata squash appetizer was tender, sweet and savory with the addition of a soft crumbled cheese and stewed tomato Entree: airline chicken, rolled and stuffed roulade style. It was crispy on the outside and moist. Served with cranberry beans. The portion was too large and aesthetic drab. Salmon was cooked perfectly with braised leeks and micro greens. Overall this place is good. I feel different when I go to American restaurant style. Decoration is nice and simple I like it but should't have TV on the wall by the bar that makes it a little odd. Great half price wine selection for the evening. Had a nice bottle of rose' for $26. Dining highlights included the octopus and the chicken. My wife and I both aren't huge fans of eating chicken out but this is special- breasts stuffed with dark meat sausage and pan fried skin. Simply awesome. For dessert hit the strawberry shortcake. This is a hard restaurant to review; there was so much good, but I feel like the couple things that were bad were pretty important. The decor is beautiful...to me, it has this modern, room and board vibe -- its contemporary, but feels like home. The first thing you really notice, however, is the noise. If you intend on making this a date or a family/friends thing where you want to hear each other, its hard to want to be here. The hostesses and staff there the evening I went were (Jan. 19), however, top notch -- they took our coats, and offered us a private room when we asked, as a high top would be tough on my parents. I thought the menu was great, and the food was really tasty, but there were two big problems. First, the food was slow to arrive -- our server apologized, but it took a pretty long while for drinks to arrive, and then appetizers, and then the main courses. So long in fact, that it brings me to #2 -- the food was pretty cold. the steak was cold, the otherwise delicious lobster gnocchi was cold, etc. etc. It was still good, but put a damper on an otherwise wonderful experience. I want to stress this again, however, the service for the most part was really great (our server, when we asked to explain what we were eating, wasn't very, i don't know, "polished" about the description? and he kept pointing really really close to the plate, like he was going to touch the food....maybe I'm crazy). The staff was nice, informative, and just awesome. I just hope this place can work out some of the logistical kinks. read more

Eden is by far one of the best Chicago restaurant experiences I've had in the past year! From start to finish 5 stars! The decor is modern and airy with a clean look. The service was impeccable and staff was attentive, friendly, and welcoming. We got to two starters- freshly baked day of olive bread and asparagus. My husband got the steak which he said had great flavor and I got the Crispy Chicken Ballotine. The dish was unique and more importantly DELICIOUS!! It's a half chicken, the dark meat is separated, made into sausage, stuffed into the white meat and flash fried. I can't wait to go back again and explore more of this tasty menu! read more

What a FANTASTIC place! This pandemic has been tough on everyone, but of course the restaurant industry has been hit especially hard. Selfishly, that means the quality of the food that we've been getting has been much lower than what it used to be. That's why we're SO THANKFUL that places like Eden were offering tasting menus for Valentine's Day. Tasting menus! I haven't had a tasting menu since March of 2020, and I've been feeling so deprived. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint--it was worth every single penny. It was honestly the best food we have had since the pandemic started (it was even *better* than the ALINEA in-home experience!!) Plus, we ordered the 4 course tasting menu for V Day and it was very reasonably priced. In fact, I would order their tasting menus every week if they offered it. Starting with the first course, which was a beet, pomegranate and blood orange salad. It was super light and refreshing--a perfect way to start the dinner. I'm normally not the biggest beet fan, but they made it delicious. Plus, they had this popped grain topping which added great texture. Next was the lobster agnolotti, which was incredibly rich and delightful. They also had these herbs that you added on from a separate container, and you can tell that everything was done super thoughtfully. Then there was the short rib course with the mind-blowing lemon gremolata, which packed tons of flavor. I mean we've all had short ribs before, but I loved that they added something new which was bold and bright. Last was the dessert which was a chocolate torte with passion fruit curd. The chocolate torte was super rich and sweet but the tartness of the passion fruit really cuts through the richness of the chocolate. I'm of course missing parts of the dishes because I can't find the menus, and the food is all in my belly. Oh, and we can't forget the bread! Even the bread was delicious, plus the butter tasted like it was freshly churned. Absolutely fabulous! Honestly, we are so thankful to be near such great restaurants like Eden. We can NOT wait to order again from them for Easter and Mother's Day, and really are just dying for the day when we can go back to dining in restaurants. I ate here on Friday with my friend who was in town from San Francisco and we both loved it. Right upon entering I was impressed with the beautiful yet understated decor and the warm welcome I received from the hostesses. We had the beet salad, tuna crudo and striped bass. Each dish was delicious and unique. They were flavorful and just the right portions. Our waiter Josh was extremely knowledgeable about all of the dishes and even made my friend a custom cocktail. Two of the appetizers (brussels + sunchokes) were too acidic and the tortellini was too sweet. We came to Eden before seeing a show. It was great that they had parking. We ordered the bread, ahi tuna crudo, ahi & shrimp spaghetti, red fish and asparagus. The ahi crudo was delicious. It was my favorite part of the meal. The red fish was also delicious. The ahi & shrimp pasta was good, but I think I was expecting standard pasta, and it was ramen. They also chopped up the tuna and shrimp which I was also not expecting. The server was good, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. He did notice that the pasta was not hitting the spot and offered to get me something else. I declined. Again, the pasta was good, just not quite what I was expecting. The service overall was great. The bussing staff and hostess staff were great. The bussers were on top of water refills, keeping our table clean, and taking our check when I was ready. Amazing on every level. The space is bright, clean and spacious for a GNO to a date night to a birthday bash. They have a parking lot and a wonderful menu that can please any palatte. I truly enjoyed every dish we ate and the service although rather slow was very nice. We had a few favorites on the menu and a few that I would probably pass on to try the other items but to note the best thing ever was the umami mushroom donuts. The flavors beyond this world amazing! Nothing I have ever had has been so good!!! The Grilled Baby Octopus - new potato, harissa, raw corn, artichoke, arugula, pistachio-yogurt panna cotta, forbidden rice was earthy and a great balance of sea and land. The arugala added notes of pepperiness and the yogurt cooled the dish. Panzanella - tomato, flat bread, eggplant aioli, cucumber, gooseberry, herbs, zataar and the Roasted Pepper Pierogi - aged cheddar, new potato, tomato water, baby artichoke, pickled banana pepper, chives, herbed yogurt, browned butter were both also delicious. You can't go wrong with anything here. The food is very mediterranean but also indian spice driven. I can find the resemblence and the vegetarian menu is a plus for those that are restricted. I recommend this place to everyone I know. It is a bit off the path of restaurant row of Randolph but worth it. read more

In a city that boasts some of the finest food on the continent, it's easy to find laureled or trumpeted establishments with plucky staffs and impressive menus - but as many of us Chicagoans know, that doesn't always add up to a seamless dining experience that's as well-executed as it is satisfying. We ate at Eden last night with friends and were both satisfied and eager for the next dish or drink at every interval. Between the four of us, we tasted carrots coaxed with chili and cherries, autumnally-seasoned, piping hot and creamy pierogis, succulent and smoky grilled octopus, tagliatelle that was so fluffy and light that it seemed it was spooling down from pasta heaven with every forkful (I didn't get to taste it but it honestly moved in slow motion!), curried lentil pastries on a plate of pretty pickled vegetables, and tender, buttery white fish perfected by crispy skin and which tasted of sublime umami. When our meal concluded, we couldn't be sure that we would polish off a dessert or another cocktail but we decided to top off our truly Edenic adventure and shared the strawberry shortcake and the black chocolate. We left thrilled with every bite. Go to Eden and be enthralled - heaven really is a place on earth, and it's tucked on Lake Street. read more
