Always believed that hair stylists are in the same categories as dentist, mechanics and doctors. People that you need to trust without a second of a doubt. Eddie falls into that category. He's been cutting my hair for the past year or two. It's good to not think about whether my sides are going to be too short or if my back is going to be too long. Oh my goodness. To start, I'm very particular with who cuts my hair because I've had some horrific experiences. Especially since my hair is curly and for many stylist it's hard to cut. Then he gets to work and all I have to do is sit back and relax. Got a cut from Eddie before graduation and it was just alright. To be honest, while I appreciate his craftsmanship and attention to detail to cutting hair, I find his cuts to be a bit rich. He also only specializes in fades and short cuts, so if you're one to prefer having layers and some length to your hair, Eddie is not for you. I was hoping that he perhaps might have some suggestions or tips for how I should cut my hair or style it, but when push came to shove, he ended up performing his routine cut that he's used to cutting without so much as a consultation. I have been looking for a barber around Pasadena area because I'm finally realizing that driving to the valley to get a haircut is ridiculous. It's hard to find another barber you can trust with your hair. A barber you can trust to make you look good. Today as I was walking by, thinking I need a haircut soon. I am very happy with my first haircut by Eddie today. I have been going to another stylist for years and have occasionally tried others just to see if there is someone out there that can do a better job. Needless to say, I have been disappointed every single time so I have grown quite skeptical whenever I go anywhere else. Then I have noticed that my brother has been looking super sharp since last year as he wore a perfectly done undercut for several months and have lately began sporting what I would call a classically trendy 2017 low fade which is so perfectly shaped and tailored that not even one hair appears out of place. That's when I had first found out about Eddie. Recently, I gotten into that "lets try someone new" mode again and made the appointment with Eddie. To be honest, I was quite skeptical because I don't think is uncommon to find a good stylist or barber to do a good fade and/ or undercut nowadays since those are such popular styles that I believe any working stylist has had a least lots of practice from cutting those styles over and over. After a quick hello/ introduction, I explained to Eddie that I have always liked my hair medium to longer length but is willing to let him decide what he thinks is best suited for me and I was ready to accept that Eddie he would go straight to giving me a fade....except he didn't! He analyzed my hair as he examined its texture, combed it from side to side to find the most natural spot to part my hair, he asked what kind of product I use, I showed him photos of myself in the past, those that I liked and don't, and also samples of what I wish to look like. And guess what, he took everything I said into consideration and explained what could work with the shape of my face and what wouldn't and give me the best haircut I have had in years. He used scissors over comb, a bit of razor, a bit of thinning shears at only specific spots, no clippers were used at any time. He was meticulous, took his time, and appeared confident throughout, and overall took about 35-40 mins from start to finish; and I must say I have not seen my hair look as balanced as it is now. He didn't have to rely on lots of small talk, nor a lengthy hair wash and scalp massage to make me feel good being there. But it was good because Eddie had listened attentively to what I wanted and consulted me on what the possibilities are, then he designed, cut, shape, trim, style, and simply "fixed" my hair. He definitely knows how to cut men's medium length hairstyles. It is now easier to manage, it looks natural and I no longer need to use a lot of product to style it in place. I am sure I will be going back to Eddie for my next cut. read more

Eddie was the first barber I went to when I moved to Pasadena in September, and in the last 9 months I haven't been anywhere else. Eddie is crazy talented and incredibly attentive; he really listens to you and will give helpful suggestions if you are unsure on anything. Eddie is actually fantastic at answering questions and will give you really good information and instruction if you want it. (I was actually not sure on how to apply certain products to my hair, and Eddie went through them each individually.) That said, Eddie is pretty quiet while he is working, which can be a bit of a surprise if you are used to a hairstylist chatting the whole time, but in my experience this is because he is really focused on the task at hand, which is fine by me! After the first try, I continued to go there. This time he really messed my hair up. He asked me to show him some pics next time at my 2nd come back. I sent him 2 videos (cuz screenshot quality are kind low) one day before I made my third appointment. When I came to the shop, he said he didn't watch it and then watched very quick and didn't catch details of the style I want. All back of my hair is flat now. This was the first time that I'd gone to Eddie and I know that it won't be the last! It was immediately apparent that Eddie's job is his passion and that he enjoys what he does. He was also very patient, listening to the sort of look I was going for and giving me honest opinions in response to what I thought might look good (notably, in regards to leaving my sideburns or not, he said removing them would look cleaner but leaving them would look more unique). He is also very knowledgeable about hair and hair products and recommended the best treatment to keep my hairstyle looking exactly the way I want it. This is my 2nd visit to Eddie. Not only is he a fantastic barber/stylist with high attention to detail and precision cutting, he gives a nice shampoo before. Don't be afraid to talk with him about what you're looking for before the cut. Reference each part of the head and suggest what you think and then ask what he thinks. I think most of the trouble with hair cutting comes from a lack of communication, and he is certainly friendly and willing to discuss patiently what it is you want out of the hair cut. I have straight/wavy hair that I usually grow out for a pompadour or an undercut in case anyone is wondering. He's given me a more professional scissor on the side cut for my first time which grew out so well it lasted me a couple months at least. The 2nd time he gave me a more hipster undercut, was very patient when I asked him to go a little shorter in a few places, and he gives a quality cut. I tend to be very specific about what I want, I've pretty much dialed in how I like it to look, and Eddie was able to be flexible, patient, and professional when I made small adjustments to what I wanted along the way. Because he is nice and willing to collaborate with me, I come back. I like a barber who does not take small suggestions personally like its some insult to their craft. I am a person who has experience with what I like and dislike about the shape, style of their hair, etc, and a vision of what I want. If you want a specific cut done well by a barber/stylist who can adjust to specifics and deliver, Eddie is your guy. Also, if I didn't know what I wanted, I'd have no issues just coming in with a picture, a general theme of style like, "can you give me a messy undercut, etc.", and letting Eddie go at it or offer recommendations. Ok, let me start off by saying Eddie is great. The 3 star rating has nothing to do with his skills. In fact, I wanted to give him a 5 when I first went in, I just hadn't gotten around to writing this review. I went to Eddie about 5 times. Each time I came out with a great haircut, probably among the best I have ever gotten. I would show him a picture, tell him that I trusted his opinion and let him get to work. The last time I went, however, I was not completely satisfied with the cut. I guess I was used to a certain level of cut from Eddie and I was telling him that something was different. He didn't say much, just smiled and said I had forgotten my style. He could sense my tentativeness I'm sure. After some discussion, he trimmed a little more off one side and we left it as is. It was not a horrible cut, I just wasn't as satisfied as the other times. Even then I would have given him 5 stars because it was a better cut than I would've gotten elsewhere. The reason I'm giving him 5 stars is because he stopped responding to me after that time. About 6 weeks after that cut I called and text Eddie, but he said he was too busy for me that weekend... so I waited a week. I started texting and calling around Wednesday for an appointment that weekend, but he neither returned my calls nor answered my texts. I even gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed he might be out of town or something, but no. I never heard from him again. I'm really sorry it didn't work out...he was my go to guy. read more

I'm the type who puts off a haircut until it becomes absolutely unmanageable. And even then I usually end up waiting another few weeks. By the time I get out to the barber it's no trivial undertaking to reshape my mop of hair, but Eddie was not fazed. I got the perfect Valentine's day haircut from Eddie. I came in for a 10:30 appointment and asked for it to be short on the side and long on top and he gave me exactly what I wanted and it looked really good. Normally after a haircut I feel like it looks weird for a few days but this looked excellent straight out of the gate. Initially while he was doing the cut he left the top a little longer but he immediately noticed that it would look better if it was a bit shorter and confirmed with me before adjusting it. His style of cutting is a combination of asian and western fashion. He is very skillful and always paying full attention to customer 's needs. I still remembered the first time i met him at KC studio, he observed my facial structures attentively and presented me with the most suitable hair style.
