I've been a local resident for nine years and remember when Sips Coffee Shop was a gem in our community. It was once a haven for coffee and tea enthusiasts, known for its efficient service and quick turnaround. Sadly, those days are long gone. The most glaring issue now is the chronic understaffing, which severely impacts the customer experience. The drive-thru line often extends so long that it blocks the adjacent driveway, causing inconvenience to many. Additionally, upon entering the shop to avoid the long drive-thru wait, customers are greeted with the sight of numerous others sitting and waiting for their orders. The once swift and reliable service has turned into a slow, frustrating ordeal. It's a real shame to witness such a decline in a place that used to be a highlight of our area. Their espresso will wake you up! I have to admit, I am not an espresso drinker. I've had it once before and it was at Yelp HQ when I needed to be awake. That means, do I have any idea how an espresso is supposed to taste? No way. Do I even think that espressos taste good? Definitely not. But it is the closest thing to pumping energy straight into my veins (that's legal), so when I need a shot of energy, I'm going for it. So why do I give this place five stars when I can't even judge the quality of their drinks? Because I love the atmosphere! The music is catchy and soothing (I know nothing about music. I'm pretty sure they are famous older bands, think Beatles, playing famous songs, but don't look at me for music knowledge). The employees are super friendly. I sat here for an hour and I heard them constantly laughing. I like being surrounded by happy people. The space is perfect for me. I can sit in the little hallway by the restroom and every time I needed to use it (I have a bladder the size of a squirrel. Tmi?) I had no qualms about leaving my stuff on the table (please don't steal my stuff). The guy at the table in front of me did it constantly and he didn't seem worried at all! ()I'm a follower) The decoration of this place is eclectic, but it works! The walls are on the greenish side of mint (ok I'm not an interior decorator either), and it is super calming to me. The light is bright enough that it keeps me awake, yet I don't feel like I'm on the examination table. All in all, I like this place. There are definitely people who are regulars here. The employees refer to some patrons by name. It's like Cheers! I'll trust other people who say the coffee is good. I'm giving this place five stars for the atmosphere alone. read more

I met a friend here this morning and we loved it! It's so cozy feeling inside and the staff is super kind and welcoming. They have almond milk as an alternative and a few prepackaged gluten free bakery items for those with allergies which is great! I'll preface this review by saying I'm a Starbucks girl. I like the coffee, but more importantly, I love the culture of supporting the community. And it is in that spirit that I decided to forego Starbucks today and visit Sips for the first time. I was greeted very warmly upon entering and assured someone would be with me as soon as possible. It gave me enough time to peruse the baked goods case, which was modest in its offerings. That being said, everything looked fresh and moist. I decided to go with the lemon cake (which was only $1.69) and a regular caffe latte. My total was less than $6, which I think is a great deal for an indie coffee shop. When my latte was done, I expected the barista to put it on the counter and call me over, but she made her way all the way around the counter to the front of the store and handed it to me herself, wishing me a great day. It was a nice touch that I wasn't expecting at all! When I got home, I discovered my lemon cake was actually nestled in a little to-go box. I thought it would just come wrapped and bagged, so I also appreciated this very much. The cake itself had a pillowy texture and a nice flavor. My only wish is for it to have much more of a lemon punch. I was missing some of the tartness I expect from a lemon cake. It could have used an extra drizzle of icing to really make it amazing as well. I had no complaints about my latte. It wasn't watery, the milk didn't overpower the espresso, and it had just the right amount of foam. I'd definitely get another latte from Sips! read more

When asked for a two-flavor drink to be made as an iced coffee, the long blonde haired and light eyed female became condescending and rude. Not giving any alternatives, not helping out, just looking at me like I was stupid. I asked to think about it longer and wait to be next at the window. I then asked if it could be made frozen instead since that was the only possibility but asked for light ice. She continued to be rude and sarcastic saying OK but it won't fill the cup. she was the professional I told her, maybe she can be kind and provide HELP. She closed the window on me refusing to help me. I walked in calmly to ask for a manager, as I have also worked food service and have never treated a customer like that, she said there was no manager there. I asked for the owner's name and phone number to at least speak to him about my experience. She proceeded to be rude and called 911 in front of me as if I was causing harm. I am a hispanic female around her age. This was the most ridiculous and upsetting situation. But I didn't let it ruin my morning. I just won't be providing my services here again and hope she doesn't treat others with this behavior. read more

While I was a big fan of this business before the renovation, I am now very disappointed. The place looks bare and depressing. What in the world kind of decor on the walls for a coffee shop. Really? Nothing fun to look at. In addition, on two separate occasions U witnessed dogs come into facility. The staff did nothing. So I will take my business elsewhere. the new management has changed nearly every method of preparation it seems for food and drink, resulting in one of the WORST cold brews I have ever had in my life.I reached out on one of their posts where they vehemently denied any changes to the products/ingredients,(despite their own employees telling me the coffee has changed, and all day they get complaints about it)and then requested that I contact them through a message or email rather than a public comment, I contacted them privately as requested, they failed to reach back out despite requesting this. if you loved SIPS Coffee three-four months ago or longer, stay away, because this place is the exact opposite, the old owners wouldn't be so impersonal, unprofessional and deceptive, rest in peace the best coffee in the Lutz/Tampa area. My wife and I supported this business when it was under the original owner and I hope to continue as long as they keep the staff. The drinks are better than Starbucks and they've expanded under new ownership. It's great for just relaxing and doing some work or study since they have Wi-Fi. read more

This is a fantastic coffee shop and I am so mad at myself for not coming here earlier!! I have been here 2 times in 2 days and I plan on coming by and trying some new things everytime! Their coffee is so smooth (the sips mocha wasn't sweet and it was divine)!! I also have tried the hot matcha tea with vanilla (wow beat matcha I've had hands down!). I tried the green tea and added strawberry and it was very good. I'm very excited because this place is right on my way to work and the girl that work there are SOOO nice/knowledgeable and helpful that it makes the experience even better! I also tried the cranberry muffin and WOW!! Soo moist I was in heaven! The muffin wasn't too sweet it was that perfect sweetness! I can't say anything negative because I have nothing negative to say! I've tried SIPS twice because it's conveniently located next to my daughters school. I love to support local businesses and try different coffee and teas, bot both times this spot has fallen below my expectations. They have a variety of flavors, but the coffee isn't tasty. I got a flavor that was supposed to be sweet, but it was too bold and not sweet. Also, when needing help deciding on which muffin to get I was meet with an attitude that seemed as if I should already know what I was going to get before pulling up to the window. I am not a regular and the last time I came was months ago, c'mon! That is my opinion. On the other hand, my daughters enjoyed their fruit smoothies and my friend loves their tea so that's why I give them three stars. read more

I imagine it has to be tough to compete with Starbucks in the Coffee business, specially because you can find a Starbucks every 2 miles. Sips it's a very special place. Cozy kind of cool coffee shop with a drive-thru where you can go and have a nice cup of coffee with a pastry. I'm a simple guy when it comes to my coffee, so due to almost 100 *F of heat, I ordered the Café Latte over ice, and although it's not much, I believe that cup of coffee made my day.! Customer service was pretty good, I was greeted, acknowledged and smiled at. Every girl working there was easy to talk to and gave great recommendation with the menu. Great little independent coffee shop. It can be a little tough to find (I always have to do a u-turn to get into it), but it is worth making the extra effort to visit this tiny gem. There is plenty of parking out front, and they also have a convenient drive-thru window. It has become something of my Friday ritual to get coffee here before work, and exchange gossip with the two awesome women that work there in the mornings, Cece and Kelly. Currently, I'm working my way through different flavored lattes. They have a ton of options to choose from when it comes to syrups, and I love that they have different combinations worked out for different seasons. So happy they have soy milk for those of us who need to stay away from lactose. All of your standard coffee cocktails are available: mochas, lattes, cappuccinos, etc. in hot, frozen, or over ice. I would say that the baristas here are definitely coffee specialists. They actually time how long your espresso brews for, to make sure it's the right consistency and flavor. Apparently, if it is not exact, the coffee will be bitter. And I have certainly had some bitter coffee from some of those big box store coffee shops (you know who you are), so I believe there is truth to this science. I absolutley love mom-and-pop coffee shops like this one. There's a very comforting feeling as soon as you walk in. Sips made me forget I was in Florida; it reminded me a lot of the coffee shops in Alaska. Even more comforting was the fact that they knew their customers by name, as well as the different drinks they liked. I tried a white mocha and it was made perfectly. I'm used to coffee shops making white mochas extremely sweet, but with this once, I could actually taste the espresso (which is the whole point!). I have a three strikes policy before I give a complaint, and with that said this is the third time I have gone to Sips for an iced coffee and have been disappointed. The trick here is that they ask you if you want a 16oz or 22oz coffee but in reality the majority of your cup will be filled with ice and water. When I asked the barista if he can make it without the water he loaded my cup up with ice, so much so the straw could not even make it into the cup. I asked him to take out some of the ice and he said that means there will be extra space in the cup. I purchased an iced coffee not iced water. To me especially being a local establishment customer service should be more of a priority, the more quality you give the retuned customers you will give. In the past I didn't want to judge Sips due to the 1 employee I dealt with, but now I realized this is just a poor business model from the top down. So, $3.22 got me just over 8oz of watered down coffee... next time I will go to Starbucks. read more

Why 4 stars? Because they poured a solid cuppa joe! --- --- --- I've had Sips on my to-visit list for the past year and a half that I've lived in the area. I have a nice espresso maker at my house, so I generally end up just enjoying my own brew, but I always love supporting neighborhood coffee shops, so I finally made a visit over here. They have a pretty nice coffee menu - some things that are filled with sugary goodness, and others meant for the coffee purist. Though I consider myself to definitely be part of the latter group, I went with a Vanilla latte and it was tasty! The food options are pretty minimal here, with the most hearty thing on the menu being a bagel. As we walked in, I believe I saw the owner lugging in some Thomas bagels from a grocery run. Obviously, I didn't expect a small coffee shop to make their own bagels, but I'll admit it did dampen my enthusiasm a bit to know that I could easily have just made these bagels at home :) Probably the best thing about Sips is that they have a drive-thru. Too many people drink an inferior product (Starbucks) because it's convenient. If you live in the area, hopefully you're able to support the little guy and not the conglomerate that virtually chars their beans. And they have games! If you're in the mood for some cards or old school games to stimulate you, on top of the caffeine you're consuming, Sips is your spot! read more

We probably make a large coffee and tea run 3-4 times a week here. It's walking distance from our office, lucky us I came in 8/12/17 at 2:30 pm. Didn't catch the Barista's name but she perfected my complicated custom matcha order!! So good! And of course, my coworkers' frozen caramel and chai lattes were 10 stars!! Thank you Sips team!!! - AFC team =) Update: Best holiday drinks ever. They had us hooked on the pumpkin spice and now they're fully blowing our minds with gingerbread and peppermint mochas. Try the peppermint white mocha =) So so sooooo good. Always leave room for a treat. They have the freshest baked goods. Yum! Their best drink tho is here year round: frozen mocha peanut butter. I really love this little place. There really is none other like this coffee shop. I'm torn between mentioning the coffee Or the staff first bc both are so wonderful! Everytime I visit, I'm greeted with a smile and a hello. I've had lattes and coffees, ice and hot. Their flavor selection is UNMATCHED and they have many sugar free options available as well. The prices are more than fair and I really love it bc it ensures I can afford to tip the baristas who really deserve it! The baked goods are yummy and taste homemade. Not some preservative filled snack that will last on a shelf for a few weeks. They seem to always be open and lest I not mention the drive-thru!?
