Buddy Brew is funny to me because technically it is "just coffee," but somehow it has managed to turn into a full social experience depending on which location you are at. Let's start with Hyde Park Village. That location does not give average coffee shop vibes. It gives "I have opinions about espresso extraction and I just handed my keys to valet" vibes. It sits right next to the valet parking area, which means your latte comes with a side of luxury SUVs and well dressed retirees who have absolutely nowhere else to be. They will sit there for hours watching the crowds go by, and if you are paying attention, you will realize they are also watching you. It is a whole ecosystem of people observing people. I find it wildly entertaining. It definitely attracts the monied set. Well off young professionals, stylish retirees, people who look like they have strong feelings about oat milk texture. And yet, somehow it is still just a coffee shop. A very good one. But still coffee. Then there is the Armature Works location, which I genuinely appreciate. The industrial riverfront setting makes it feel cool without trying. You grab your drink, walk along the water, and feel like you made an excellent life choice. It fits perfectly into that space. I will say this clearly: I am largely done with Starbucks. I am not paying premium prices for something that tastes engineered for global sameness. Buddy Brew can absolutely take center stage as far as I am concerned. The coffee tastes better. The matcha drinks taste better. And for the price, I feel like I am getting quality rather than branding. What I like most is that it feels elevated without being obnoxious about it. Yes, it has posh undertones in Hyde Park. Yes, you may feel slightly underdressed depending on the hour. But the product holds up. The coffee is strong, smooth, and consistent. The matcha is not an afterthought. It feels like they care. So yes, Buddy Brew gives off polished vibes. It attracts people with money and people with opinions. It doubles as a runway and a caffeine stop. But at the end of the day, it is still delivering a better cup than the big chain alternative. I usually get hot coffee, but after a run, I needed a refresher! the TBR was plain and delicious. Ciabatta bread was very soft and doughy. They even hooked me up with a refill on the Arnold Palmer. Interesting drink where they give you salt two shots of espresso and then fresh grapefruit juice. They're very good coffee for the local area remind me of caribou up in Minnesota. My service dog & I stop here every time we come to the Armature Works. They have great coffee and espresso drinks, but they also have a menu of delicious refreshing non-caffeine drinks. I just had a lemonade w homemade mango syrup & sparkling water. Wow, was it good! I wish we had a Buddy Brew near where we live. They also have a small menu of food and sweet treats. There are sofas, chairs and tables just next to the store, inside the Armature Works, but of course there are lots of tables outside, too, where you can sit and look out over the Hillsborough River as it heads into downtown. I love that Buddy Brew offers a number of different vegan milks including oat, almond and soy (a lot of shops have gone away from soy). I hate the upcharge (a dollar). Some places are able to survive with less of an upcharge but who am I to argue twenty-five or fifty cents? The latte was good. A nice balance of ice, milk and coffee. Nice little coffee bar located inside Armature Works. The coffee is very professionally made as one would expect from the Buddy Brew brand. The staff is friendly and there's a variety of tasty pastries to choose from. Since it's a small coffee bar it only has 6 seats at the bar and the wifi is a limited access public wifi that is free for only 2 hours a day or pay for the whole day so it's a little difficult to work from. The good thing about this location is there are plenty of places to eat at and the nice views outside of the water and downtown Tampa. I went to the car show on Saturday morning at Armature Works and after the show I decided to have a quick stop at Buddy Brew Coffee. It is a small coffee shop in armature works. It didn't took me long to order the cortado coffee, sandwich and Pumpkin loaf. I got the cortado coffee and plum cake instantly and got the sandwich in 5 minutes. I got a cold brew iced coffee with mocha that they said they made in house (that goes for I think off of their flavorings), hmm I couldn't taste any mocha but my coffee was a little more brown than usual with milk so maybe it was there. I actually came for a coffee float but they didn't have any gelato to make it! Bummer. Obviously the location is prime in amateur works right on the bay walk. I've tried Buddy Brew a couple times and I'm not really a fan. I think they're coffee is little bit too bitter for me. I find myself adding way too much sugar to try to level the flavors out. I recently tried the location in Armature Works. I was walking by and I saw one of the workers eating an affogato which is one of my favorite desserts so I had to stop and try it. I don't think it was worth the $7. The vanilla ice cream wasnt sweet enough so the coffee really over powered it. I wish I would've had a metal spoon because I wasn't able to stir the ice cream that was frozen at the bottom so most of the coffee stayed at the top.
