My SO (significant other) recalls the owners of Eatery 19 from back in the day when they were established and operated a shop in Queens. Our family moved to Long Island, Suffolk County a few years ago and we truly miss authentic Asian food from Queens neighborhoods such as Bayside, Elmhurst and Flushing. We were thrilled when we landed on this hidden gem after moving to LI and found out this family moved their restaurant to Syosset, NY. My fiance and I are on a quest to find a new beef noodle soup spot after our go to restaurant in Elmhurst closed. Happy to report that Eatery 19 is a strong contender! Haven't had a chance to try their other food yet, so this review is only for the beef noodle soup. The broth is deeply flavored and quite tasty. It's not too salty (which I find to be the case with a lot of other places), and is actually really well balanced. The noodle portions are just right, and the noodles are silky smooth. Generous portions of beef are provided - definitely ask for the hot sauce on the side to accompany it as well. The hot sauce is deliciously spicy. I only wish that they would have a little more of the pickled mustard greens, which is our fave. Service is super friendly & fast, and I'm definitely looking forward to coming back. read more

Ambience: nice typical interior reminiscent of small family owned restaurants where the focus is on the food, not the decor. The large round table in the back of the dining room was used to prep veggies. Food: we ordered: Shredded Beef with hot peppers - Flavorful and moist, but could have used some more heat to spice it up. 4/5 Beef Tomato over rice - taiwanese comfort food. We happened to be in the area and searched on yelp for Chinese restaurants when I came upon their pork chop rice that I haven't had since the Chinatown days. It was excellent but wish it had more saucy rice and pickled veggies. My husband loved it so much that he ordered one to go. Definitely will be back and can't wait to try the other dishes. read more

This is an updated review. They've made a huge improvement on the quality of their food. We've given several retry of their noodle soups. Solid 10/10. I've had the bento pork chop rice. Amazing! Pork was tender and juicy. Service also improved. I mean, the people running the restaurant aren't giving off all smiles, but they were attentive and kind. Haven't been to this place many times as I've only heard about it through family that lives around the area. It's a nice and quaint spot, has a home kitchen vibe to it. Clean interior and really nice and courteous staff. First time I came here I ordered the spicy beef tendon noodle soup. Being of Taiwanese descent, it certainly brought back a bit of nostalgia when I've visited family in Taipei years ago. It was quite flavorful, and a little spicier than I had expected but that's not a negative. Your mileage with spice will vary. Most recently when I stopped in for lunch, I decided to try something I had not heard of before but piqued my interest. I ordered the Taiwan Railroad Pork Chop Bento and it was delicious. Got two good sized seasoned and fried pork cutlets, white rice, sautéed cabbage, a marinated hard boiled egg along with some pickled mustard greens and a link of Taiwanese sausage. It reminded me of a Japanese bento box with all the various items on the plate, I assure you won't go hungry and this was a great value for the price. After working out across the street at OrangeTheory one day, my friend noticed a familiar guy smoking outside of Eatery 19. He looked vaguely familiar & we realized he used to own a Taiwanese restaurant in Bayside, which was no longer there. Lo & behold, we found out that the owner reopened his shop in Syosset & we were super happy because we have been regulars of his former restaurant. The food is impeccable & authentic. Everything is full of flavor and nothing less than delicious. Plus, the prices are hard to beat, am I right or what?! Very nice people running. had a Sha Sha beef dish, 3 Cup Chicken and the hot and sour soup. the soup was a bit spicy but tolerable and quite frankly the best H&S soup I've had in any Chinese restaurant on Long Island and outside of WoHop. the beef and chicken dishes were also excellant and we ordered an extra the beef to take take home. This is not a review for food but service - I ordered on the website which apparently is not connected to the restaurant anymore. When I went to pick up, I was told they never received my order. They said this happened to another customer before as well. I suggested they get this issue fixed, because I now have no food and cannot get a refund. They were dismissive and acted like this was my problem and not theirs. I was upset that they did not at all try to fix the situation, knowing that the link is connected to their website and shows up on their Google page. Delicious food! Authentic and full of wok hey. But ambience is very basic. Waitress has a glum look on her face. Kitchen closes early at around 8:30. Prices are pretty good. Came to Eatery 19 with the hubby for a quick dinner. I had the braised beef noodle soup and my husband had the railroad pork chop bento. We both enjoyed our choices. My braised noodle soup reminded me of the braised noodle soup from a hole-in-the-wall cspot in Flushing on Prince Street. It was very flavorful and the noodles had such a great chewy texture. My husband said his pork chops were flavorful as well and not dry, which is always great. He didn't have the soup that came with his dish and I was too invested in my noodle soup to partake either. Service was great and we didn't feel rushed at all. Many times people want you to eat, pay and go but that wasn't the case at Eatery 19. Would I come back?!? Absolutely!!! The mediocre reviews almost kept me from trying this restaurant, but seeing the authentic Taiwanese dishes on the menu gave me the nudge. I'm so glad I took the leap! Been here 3 times this week and I was not disappointed. 1: stir fried beef tomato (and egg). There is no dish that brings me more back to my mom's home cooking. They did not disappoint. The flavors and textures were spot on. I don't usually see onions in the recipe but they weren't bad. It comes with scrambled egg without prompting, which completes the trifecta. 2: preserved egg with cold tofu. Very refreshing. Nice marinade. The 1000 year old eggs are yum for you adventurous types 3: there's no review complete without beef noodle soup! The broth is perfect. So rich. The beef breaks apart delicately in your mouth. The tendon was a touch undercooked and the noodle a touch over cooked. Love the pickled mustard green garnish. I'm loving this! They check your vaccine card! I am more impressed that they checked me all 3 times this past week. According to the owners they've been open for about 7 months. My suspicion is that they were former restaurant owners in Flushing because the food quality is on par with the restaurants there. Really nice place for some sit-down taiwanese food on Long Island. I was in the mood for some spicy tendon noodle soup, and this is the closest to me compared to flushing. We ordered the popcorn chicken, spicy beef tendon noodle soup, and beef and pepper noodles (dry). The popcorn chicken. Was tasty. Could be a little more crunchy. It was very juicy and delicious still. The beef tendon noodle soup was good. I like tendons texture and prefer it over beef pieces. They do have options for the beef or both. The star dish was really the pepper beef noodle. They sauce and flavor were on point. The husband was craving the dry version, but you can also have it with soup. I would order that one again. Delicious! Finally a Taiwanese restaurant in LI. Don't have to trek down to queens anymore when I'm craving TW food. Popcorn chicken reminds me of those carts in the streets of TW that peppery smokey and salt with the crunchiness. YUM! The sausage and stinky tofu is also very authentic along with the sa cha shredded beef with watercress over rice. Twice I've dined here, my father who's local has been here numerous times. We love the food here, which is authentic Taiwanese food. My husband and mother-in-law who are Korean also like it (minus the non-traditional items like intestines, duck blood, and stinky tofu, which I grew up eating and like). Our favorites were: 1. We did family style (4 dishes + 1 soup) and another dish that we later added on. Two dishes came out soon after another about 20 min after we ordered, but almost 1 hour in, 2 more dishes and the soup that were in the original order still hadn't come. I tried to tell the lady chef who served one of the dishes that, she was hurrying away before I could tell her that it wasn't only the added-on dish that was missing. We knew that were very busy; there were probably 10-12 take out orders in 1 hour of us sitting there. It turned out that the soup was forgotten. After I informed our waitress she did give us the soup and the added-on dish to go as I asked. The owner (I think?) was very nice, chatted with us a little bit. Found this gem in Long Island before dinner rush! Small, quiet, clean space. We ordered a few dishes, popcorn chicken (little bit salty) but too be expected. We also order minced pork over rice, so so good. The staff are super friendly and very attentive! The food came out fast as well. I do apologize I could not remember all the dishes names. I've done take out twice from here and without a doubt, the food is good. If you're looking for authentic Taiwanese (something you can't find in this area), then this is your place. The one caveat - it's expensive. Like really expensive. I know prices all around are going up, but it's expensive enough for me to think twice and really come here if the cravings are real. I know, I can't compare to flushing prices, but i could get 5 meals for the same price of 3 meals here. I believe the owners are the same as nan bei ho so you know the food is good. If you factor in the gas and time to go to flushing, then sure it'll balance out. Regardless, i'd still come back here. The chicken leg is way better than the porkchop which is just way too thin. Our first to arrive was the Fatty Pork and Fried Tofu in a delish sauce...this was our fav and highly recommended if your like both ingredients ; pork belly and tofu.... next waas the Shrimp in hot pepper sauce...beautiful dish with lotsa shrimp and veggies...was delish! 3rd to arrive was Tofu Szechuan Style..like Mapo Tofu with ground pork sprinkled on top...also delish and nicely prepared. I like my food spicy hot and requested that the food was Ma & La..szechuan peppercorns and red hot oil...They had Ma oil which i added to each dish and it was terrific..a new find for me. We really enjoyed the food and had leftovers for later. I was curious about the stinky tofu they had and asked for a taste. They gave me a small order for me to taste and once I got past the initial smell and then tasted it, I can say that it was interesting enough to try it again! The dishes taste good and traditional in general. But the soups too light and needs improvement. However, I feel inconvenience to pay cash to avoid the credit card fee. So far I know a few restaurants still put the credit card fee on the bill. Many restaurants do not have this fee and still have lowest suggested tips 15% not 18%. I asked some other restaurants why they don't have the fee and still 15% lowest suggested tips. They told me that if customers not happy then they will not come out eat then they have no business.
