Short story: customer service is not a priority, food is very good - if you order take out, buyer beware
My rating is closer to 1.5 starts, but I am rounding up because it's the holiday season. Two nights ago, I went to Easterly for take-out. I don't live far away, so figured I would just order in person. Also, I have ordered take out over the phone in the past and much gets lost in translation. The employees are clearly untrained in the areas of making direct eye contact, smiling or saying 'hello', 'I'll be right with you', and you know nothing gets me excited more than being flat out ignored. To amuse myself, I used my stopwatch to see how long before my presence would be acknowledged as I stood right in front of the order line and cash register. After about seven minutes, I caved in and called one of the workers, who to his credit, apologized and then took my order. Okay, it was a busy Saturday night, I get it. I ordered for my family the braised beef noodle soup, stewed chicken and tripe soup, and cold cucumber (spicy). Beef soup broth with thinner than normal rice noodle was excellent and really hit the spot on a rainy day, but could have had more beef. Same thing with the chicken soup - at least what little meat there was was tender and flavorful. Tripe, if you are a fan, was perfect texture and bite-sized. Daughter loved the cucumber dish - crunch with just enough peppers for a kick. Overall, great food - so we came back the next day...
The following evening I returned, this time much earlier to avoid crowds. We had a largely positive experience with last night's dinner that I ordered two beef noodle soups this time, and the same cucumber dish. I paid on got my receipt, which stated 5:02pm. "How long will the food take?" I asked, and was told 20 minutes. Okay great, no problem. I checked email until about 5:15, during which about two parties came in and also ordered take-out. 5:20 - okay, any minute now... I started watching Sunday Night Football on my phone, until commercial I looked at my watch: 5:30, okay I better say something. "Almost ready, we are waiting on one thing...", the server replied. I could have gone home, taken out the garbage, then driven back in this time. Another party came in and ordered take-out - the other two parties already got their food and left. 5:35 - something about there not being enough beef for both soups? 5:40 - Hmm... dude, this is ridiculous, it's not like I ordered anything special. 5:45 - Can I talk to your manager? I'm a patient guy, but this is unreasonable... 'oh, sorry, all these orders came at the same time', NO, I call bullshit, the restaurant was EMPTY when I ordered over 40 minutes ago... he didn't reply. Finally the soup comes but the container is like half full. Where's the rest of the soup? He says there's space there to fill for the noodles (which are packed separately). Wtf? I ordered the same thing last night and it was totally full, so I make him go back and have the chefs fill the container. It's only broth of crying out loud, are you kidding me? He comes back and now the container is 3/4 full now but he says he included an extra box of noodles for my troubles. Hmmm... that's funny... it's 5:50 and I'm tired now so I don't bother to figure out this logic anymore.
That's all - I highly recommend this place only if you eat in. If you take out, make sure you're not in a time crunch and have low expectations for service. read more
